The Limited has AWD/full time 4wd which is better for snow/rain. The Limited also has a JBL sound system. As well as heated/cooled seats, sunroof, remote start, keyless entry and push button start...

I bought a 2016 Limited. I removed rear seats, made a roll-out storage box, designed a bed over box, added AGM under hood, 3kw inverter, small refrigerator, cooked on induction unit, 25-gal water tank, 1000-w in line water heater and shower hose, roof made canopy, portable 8k winch with Kurt hitch front, wired 200amp outlet. Front and rear for winch, twin 5-gallon aux fuel tanks. Drove all of US, all Canada crossed arctic circle four times, Prudhoe Bay, Tuktoyaktuk, crossed streams and paths. T4R has many tattoos. Having AWD is a great asset, especially areas such as Alcan Dempster highways where you constantly switch to 4x4. I did not buy this for trade-in and pretty. I can’t see the ugly grill when I’m driving. Forded streams wheel deep at times, traveled alone, much to see. I’m 71. Advice. I met a man and girl In Inuvik driving a Ford Escort station wagon, they had fourteen flat tires on the Dalton highway, patched them, pumped with a hand pump, laughed every time. Don’t spend all your time and money looking good. Get out here!

The trade is worth it for the safety features. Love all the tech on my 18 Tacoma Limited and the white never shows scratches. Not sure why they waited so long to add that stuff to the 4runner. The most attractive aspect of the limited 4runner is the full time 4wd, especially in snowy weather.

Some reasons to get Limited. 1. Has All Wheel Drive so if you live in a wet area like Florida there are benefits...... Part Time 4 wheel drive you cant drive on Freeways etc....... but for his uses in the country very Applicable. 2. Limited has front and rear Sonar, helpful for parking especially suburbia where most of these are driven. 3. Also I believe Limited has some adaptive dampers that give it a more road friendly ride. 4. Ventilated Leather. I like the wheels better on the model he has and would replace the Limited 20 inch ones with those and not have a running board..... Then you have the best of all models........ can always swap out chrome etc which is a preference

I have done some serious off road adventures with my heavily modified 4th gen 4Runner. I am buying a Limited because it has AWD, ATRAC, and, a Center Differential. The TRD’s do not have a Cen diff lock all the best 4WD vehicles in the world have Cen diff locks. So you traded in a great off road rig for a less capable more expensive truck. SMART!

Agreed on the Limited. AWD and 4WD is a heck of a combo for areas with real winters. To get the AWD capability you give up a little offroading ability for much better on road winter ability, while still having 4hi and 4lo for offroading. To each his own.

I learned a lot just from the comments and some things you said. I see a nice looking 2019 Limited Nightshade for sale at a great price. But it would probably look terrible after a couple off-road trips. I'm still tempted though, but I would only do light off-roading once or twice a year.

    • @IBtrollinyoufool
      @IBtrollinyoufool 3 роки тому +3

I say get it. The Limited has a full-time 4WD, which is best on the road if you’re only doing light-offroading. It still has a locking center diff (Torsen), 4hi and 4lo, and A-Trac which are plenty. All other 4Runners are part-time 4WD and I wonder how they handle icy roads unless on 4x4 which would bind the drive shafts while turning on patches of roads without ice. I’m all about 24/7 traction on the road here in the Pacific Northwest = wet and sometimes icy roads.

I can adventure so deep in the rockies and camp away from people :) or just trail rude on day trips.. I also drive a ltd for work once and awhile (my boss' ride) and I can appreciate the awd. I personally like having the adventure aspect more than the awd city aspect but I understand that decision for those that go that route. Have fun with her!! Did some research on the KDSS...super expensive to repair after warranty is out.. And sometimes does have issues after some years. I'll be skipping option when I buy that and just upgrading standard shocks to Bilstein 5100's. Of course from my research, this is not a concern until at least about 8 or 9 years so if you dont keep a vehicle too long it wont matter to you.

I just went through the process of looking for a used 4Runner. It's easy to get distracted by the bells and whistles that come with the Limited but I ultimately passed for a few reasons:
    - In Canada, the Limited comes standard with X-REAS. I was looking for the most reliable configuration, and frankly, the X-REAS system just means more money when the shocks start to leak
    - I don't like how the front and rear bumper hangs lower and takes away from the approach and departure angles
    - The tires are too thin, 245... are you kidding me?! It looks ridiculous from the back, as if it will tip over if you take a turn too quickly
    - Useless running boards
Even the SR5 with softex, sunroof, and heated seats is a better package in my opinion. The front end of the SR5/TRDs is simply the best; the way the bumper tucks in and exposes the tires is simply amazing. I ended up with a 2015 SR5 and put some Duratracs on it the next day - new AT tires alone make it look beastly. Will eventually upgrade to the TRD Off-Road when my wife returns to work from mat leave.

Thinking of getting a limited myself since i have no need for rear locker, and i actually prefer the '19 cause of all beeping from the safety stuff, and you can't put a behind-grille light bar... lol guess there is a vehicle for everyone. @@dimdim3490 You realize RWD in a SUV is far different than RWD in say, a truck. You have more weight on the rear axle in the 4Runner than an empty truck bed. You throw some all-terrain tires like K02s or Duratracs on your part 4WD 4Runner and you'll be fine. I live in Canada, I hardly ever use 4x4 on my truck in the winter because it's equipped with K02s. Just bought a 4Runner Sr5 but installed Duratracs, it'll probably do better in the snow than my truck. Part time 4WD means less wear and tear too, I'll take that.

I think you are right about AWD. I think he made a mistake. He basically traded excellent AWD for a rear wheel truck! RWD for winter, no thanks! He thinks he can turn 4WD HIGH on on a highway. Apparently this is not recommended. TRD does no have a center differential (limited has torsen center differential) only transfer case which does not allow for front and rear axles rotational difference. I spoke to a couple of people with 4runners with part time 4WD and both of them said they wished they had awd instead of 4WD. These two guys were part of the off road club and tried both AWD and 4WD on one of the club's trips. They even claimed that 4Runners with AWD feel better off road because they do not have tendency to go straight like 4WD has. Go figure! Anyway i would buy only AWD 4Runner here in snowy Canada especially if my wife will be driving it. His only limiting factor was the running boards on the limited, but it is pretty easy to get rid of them.

I agree with you on the looks and suspension, though. Esp if you have 6 km of overgrown camp. All else is either because of time or just swapping some equipment out.

So much to ♥️in our 2021 Toyota 4Runner Limited, full time 4x4. Over the decades, this is our 4th Toyota 4Runner. We have now owned generation 2, 3, 4 and now 5th.
The Limited has the Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System, or X-REAS sport suspension system and we are very impressed with the excellent, crisp handling it provides at highway speeds, especially in cross winds and driving in our Colorado steep winding Rocky Mountain roads. It handles more like a sports car, not a heavy suv. The engine and transmission however, not so much.
Compared to our 2005 4Runner 4x4 v8, the 4.0l v6 engine and 5 speed transmission is disappointing in our high altitude Colorado Rocky Mountains. 1st gear is fine, 2nd-5th is either too high or too low of a gear ratio for the less capable v6 achieving a disappointing 12 mpg City, 17mpg Highway. Our v8 4Runner 4x4 achieved a superior 19mpg City, 25 mpg Highway.
The driver seat for some reason is very uncomfortable compared to the front passenger seat. It appears it is crooked and leaning. We are going to request a replacement from our local dealerships along with a new driver side headlight as it has dead LED spots.
With the Limited’s ample well appointed upscale standard features that are only available from competitors starting in the $70,000+ price range and being just as home on the highway as it is going up steep 4x4 dirt Colorado mountain trails, the Toyota Limited 4x4 is simply the best value in its class.
In all, with the 4Runnner’s legendary reliability we have been relying on for decades and superb value, we highly recommend the Toyota 4Runner.

At first, I was going to get me a brand new 2021 model but hate payments. Why don't you just get the 2020 4runner Venture. Mike C correct when I say auto I mean you don’t physically need to reach down and turn it into 4x4. Once again was my point he was losing that feature. And yeah sure with a good set of tires works gear but it you pull out in front of someone too early or on a hill the 4x4 comes into play obviously
