Damn I get 16 mpg combined and my 2018 4runner has a 2 and a half inch lift and bigger tires and heavier wheels on it along with other armor. Either way the 4Runner is my favorite vehicle. Absolutely have no complaints besides the mpg but it’s a sacrifice i make for the enjoyment, reliability, piece of mind, and knowing this machine can take me anywhere anytime and bring me back.

I agree. I have grown up by ski resorts in the mountains, icy roads and deep snow, with 4wd or AWD with snow chains is the best. Often necessary were we live.

Atrac, which is called MTS in the newer Toyotas. MTS is a variable ATRAC that allows you to adjust the amount of slip allowed before intervention. For instance in mud you wouldn't want super early brake intervention because a spinning wheel is good where as on rock you would.

My wife has recently had her eye on a 4Runner up from her initial interest a RAV4. What a coincidence. For the last 2 years she's been scouring up everything about RAV4's. And then just recently she's been talking a 4Runner. This is from a lady who's already had 3 4Runners and got another one for her son. After watching this video I am really impressed with the 4Runner and I really hate to say this but I really like that Army Green 4Runner but my wife doesn't care for that color. Thanks for putting this up I enjoyed looking at possibly our next vehicle.

When driving in snow/ice conditions, car reviewers should be testing with proper winter tires: "All terrain tires have a rubber compound that is designed for warmer weather use. Dedicated winter tires have a compound that grips better in colder temperatures and a tread pattern that is better suited for traction on snow and ice."

I can attest that the snow in the Pacific Northwest is very different from the rest of the US. After the extremely wet snow comes down, it packs down, melts, freezes over, churns, and crusts over, it's like driving on ice cream mud that has a thousand separate layers with the base layer that behaves like everfrost.
I am originally from the Midwest, lived through New England winters and Pittsburgh winters, the packed snow here is really hard to drive on esp with hills.
And I am a winter tire (Blizzaks) fanatic

The only thing (i can respect and understand why) is that, when you guys get stuck slipping or sliding, you go to "lets go as slow as possible and see if that will fix it" and most of the time, that will get you out of trouble. But i think at the end, instead of just backing down the mountain, you should have backed down a few feet to where you had grip, turned off TCS and just hammered down and see if it would get through that rough section.

Try it again with studded tires and lock the rear diff. Also, slow down when it gets rough! Tires are the only thing that create contact traction. Clearance is great but you can plow through snow with a FWD car on studded winter tires and a slow rate of speed. You might turn your front clip into a snow plow but it will work. You can have a car with all lockers, a center diff lock, be on street tires (G63 AMG) and not make it that far. Contact contact contact.

Excellency review!!... I have the 4Runner TRD Off Road with Fox Shocks and a Magnuson Supercharger (installed last year) that I love so much, it is definitely my forever rig lol... My only dislike about it was the lack of power on the highway when it came to passing and accelerating faster when on the highway, especially when fully loaded for overlanding.. The Magnuson supercharger makes her feel exactly as you would expect an SUV of this size to feel.. I can pass on highways EASILY now.. Even when loaded up with water, extra fuel, my rooftop tent, food, spare parts, recovery gear and everything else needed for remote touring.. It feels more like a V8 now!.. it was weird seeing a TRD Pro struggle in the snow like that. And...if that's what Karleena looks like with out makeup, I wonder how she looks all dolled up! Cute!

I don't know where you're from, but the snow in the Pacific Northwest is very different from the rest of the US. After the extremely wet snow comes down, it packs down, melts, freezes over, churns, and crusts over, it's like driving on ice cream mud that's crunchy with a thousand layers of different density.
I am originally from the Midwest, lived through New England winters and Pittsburgh winters, the packed snow here is really hard to drive on esp with hills. And I am a winter tire (Blizzaks) finatic

@@puregsr - I'm in Utah. I understand all that, to me it is weird seeing a TRD Pro struggle like that. It's not really a ton of snow that they were on, usually on these kinds of videos they have a harder time traction-wise with tons of mud, deep watery mud or a ton of sand. I know the packed snow and ice would be a problem too.

We that love the 4runner..LOVE it the way it is.We that buy and continue to buy over and over...or every 20 yrs or so ,as they last that long, simply do not care about fuel mileage or what yall talking heads refere to as "outdated" headlights or 6 plus gears and all the "new fad.ish" a.k.a. sissy options. We love the fact that it is a TRUCK .It,s sickening to us that yall want to press Toyota to make it a highlander or patriot clone .We that buy and love simply do not care about fuel mileage. I drove a 2017 wrangler 4roor Sahara. I was in that same situation. I didn’t need to air down. Snow was at least 8 inches. I put the jeep in 4Lo. And plowed through. If it got stuck I reversed a few feet and drove forward. The trail I was in was undriven compact snow as well. You didn’t try hard enough 😂

Hi. So, I just bought the 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD PRO in Lunar Rock color...lol. Anyway, we just experienced our first snow in the Mountains. Our drive way is very steep...Should I have used 4Lo Crawl to go down? Going up, I got stuck like Carlina but now I know not to stop..lol I’ve never driven in snow ❄️ but need to learn. I was so terrified I was going slide off the side into the highway. What do you suggest on learning the function other than reading the manual. I need videos like 👍🏽 these. I need to see rather than read. Lol, help! Teach me....more videos on the other functions please. 😉👍🏽

The 4Runner is a great choice if you are looking for real truck based SUV. The engine and transmission are out dated but they are tested, reliable and smooth. I don't like the engine and transmission combo in my 3rd gen Tacoma as much although I do get decent gas mileage.

You’re better off getting The off road edition. If you go onto Toy Tec .com you can get KING SHOCKS they are adjustable or even Fox has them too. You get a lot more bang for your buck plus your getting a 3 inch lift for better clearance. The roof rack is crap so you’re better off not getting a Front Runner roof rack or any other top brand. It has no linear weight distribution for anything heavy. With the savings of that money you can probably add a front bumper with winch and lights . Also you can get a full skid plates which they do not offer. Oh yea the crawl control is good but I rather install a front locker. Do the research first but if you got money to piss away kudos for you!

I love my 2018 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 3.6L. It's a car, it's a truck. It handles corners like a car, but it's rugged enough to handle off-Roading. Air Suspension gives 7" of ground clearance on highway to 11" for off-road. I added a hidden winch, rock sliders & full skids from bumper to trailer hitch. $50k with mods. AMAZING.

    • @mechmat12345
      @mechmat12345 4 роки тому +2

Because they did actually do some updates in 2020 like improved safety tech, updated infotainment, and push button start/keyless entry on some models. Resale value is also spectacular, meaning you won't save much buying a late model used version if you have a higher interest rate (which is common in new vs used financing). Carvana literally has a 2018 TRD Off Road model right now and they are charging $150 MORE than the original window sticker price.
