So last night I was at the beach (Lake Erie, northeast Ohio) with family/friends and we were digging a channel so the creek could drain better into the lake, which is my absolute favorite thing to do. Anyway, my dad saw what we had done and he asked me if I ever watch your videos and I was shocked that he knew who you were. 😁😁 Thought that was pretty cool.
From Western Pa here, only 1.5 hours away from Lake Erie. Haha this is awesome that you dug a channel like that. And. even better that your Dad asked you that. 😊 haha
For some reason, your channel disappeared from my notified channels. I've fixed that now. But I have to say one thing, I don't know what it is about the channel, but it is so addictive to watch. You explain everything so thoroughly and are so enthused by what you do. You provide a great service to your community, and I get to watch hours and hours of it back to back. Never stop. I love the channel. Thank you for all you do. Chris, England UK.
I stumbled upon your channel just a few days ago, and I'm already loving it! I love that you don't see wildlife as a nuisance. I appreciate that you are explaining the role of beavers in balancing the effects of droughts and flooding. I appreciate your explanations what and why you're doing, it makes the videos even more satisfying. It's crazy how warm it was this past spring. I live on the opposite side of the Earth, but I've noticed that we have had quite similar climate patterns here in Estonia, in North-Eastern Europe. In my country all of the rivers are very dark brown because they begin in peat bogs - lot's of organic matter.
Everyone here stumbled into his video's, first thinking what the hell is this guy doing, and then you find out he is really putting his everything into doing this 'job', and on the side shows some crazy beautiful US nature in any season, and is giving a lot of info about everything that runs around, lives or grows in the area. From tiny spider friends to big moose and elk. You will hate the day you found him because now your hooked, just like the other 730k subscribers..
Time goes by too fast. Loved this trip. Without our tour guide, would never see this or know the history. You always make it interesting and enjoyable and educational. Thanks, Post. 😊
Thanks for sharing this interesting trip and unclogging. Nice to know that Maine is similar to parts of Norway in amounts of snow, melting, and thaw cycles affecting the roads.
I like the thinking out aloud when you don’t realise you’re doing it, weighing up the pros and cons if you should or shouldn’t enter the water, and if so for how long.. It’s brilliant how you never take a culvert for granted and process the culvert to see if it’s safe. You’ll go far with that method and not make stupid errors.
Post, your vids are my meditation vids now! I don't mean they're boring; I mean they're calming. These days it's very important to have a relaxing little haven in your life.
I grew up in Idaho and in the Redwoods of California and Oregon. Since I’ve been in Nevada, I’ve gotten used to the lack of forestry and all that jazz, but watching these videos always make me homesick. Cant wait to get out of this damned desert and back into the forested mountains where I belong.
You mentioned the u-posts were not serving any purpose against the grate, but remember, you could NOT push it at all when they were in place. The grate became much easier to move after you removed the u-posts. They worked well to hold the grate up against the pipe, by preventing it from falling away. I really enjoy your videos! Keep them coming!
why is this channel so addicting???? I guess it reminds me of playing outdoors (in the 70s when kids went outdoors) and playing with mud and water ways--!!! This cat rules--he should be getting donations!!!!
Loved this one! Seeing those old roads and l really love the stone culverts they seem SO much nicer and sturdier than the pipes sad they remove them then you see them use puny pipes that are undersized. Please revisit those old stone culverts again or show others. This was a great little bit of history you showed us❤love seeing those. Also love how you talk like we are right there with you. God bless what you do you bring me a lot of calm and enjoyment getting to travel along. Its amazing what you do.
It's very nice that those T-Posts were so easy to remove. I believe their purpose is to support the grate in place against the culvert when the water is low so that it does not become dislodged when the water isn't as high. Great work, love this video especially! Amazing hydraulic pressure against that grate with the added resistance of the debris.
Hey brother I live in NW Indiana and ive seen it snow here in May. One year it was so cold in June we had to wear winter coats. My daughter was born in June and we was going to have her party at the park and cook on the grill. But it was so cold we had to call it off from the park and everyone go to my house and I was still trying to grill with a winter coat, gloves and a stocking hat. I'll never forget that June. God bless you and your family my friend.
I've had that idea for a while now, but in all reality, it probably wouldn't be feasible for Post 10 to have one with him at all times, being as a lot of the culverts are stone or plastic these days
This is the perfect scenario for a “poking stick.” A slightly sharp-ended stick to jam vertically into the area you suspect the culvert to exist, that will pierce through dirt but not a pipe. You don’t need a metal detector, or to dig around for a half hour on guesswork, just jam the stick in multiple places along the side of the road, and when you hit something, jam it along that until you stop hitting it, and you should have located the culvert’s mouth. Then dig there for 5 minutes, clearing it, and bam. Clean entrance on a long-buried culvert.
Ooh, I take that back at 5:15. Feet of gravel is the weakness of the poking stick. Gravel stops a poking stick in its tracks. I have a suspected buried culvert here in my town, went out with a long, neon orange sign post, to poke around, and the entire area (under less than an inch of dirt) was solid gravel where there probably used to be a ditch.
Excellent: especially seeing old abandoned roads. That grate/water pressure was impressive. Good job getting it open! 👏 Thanks for another ride-along! 😎

yeah could probably just get one of those little metal sensors if they detect aluminum at least though won't help for plastic lol
or a poking rod

I ask because I am currently having some issues with some footage that has background noise. Noise gates and Audacity's noise reduction dont appear to be working well enough
My suggestion is if you're using an external mic, get a foam cover for it to block a lot of the back ground noise you don't want heard
