Electric Light Orchestra’s Discovery was pretty much universally panned by critics at the time and I think a lot of people think it’s cheesy but I love every single track. It is also a huge influence on Daft Punk.
I've just listened to it! I might be biased for already liking Yasiin for for work on various Gorillaz and Kanye projects, but I did really enjoy the album
Atom Heart Mother definitely is the most underrated. Summer 68 and Fat old sun are classics, even if is really good. But it was the perfect middle ground between the early stuff and what Floyd did on Meddle.
If anything, Meddle is the most underrated album from their work. While Echoes is absolutely incredible and it carries the albums on its shoulders, the rest of the tracks, apart from Seamus imo, are utterly fantastic as well. Fearless is golden, A Pillow of Winds is one of the most relaxing songs ever made with a close 2nd being San Tropez later on, and the opener One of These Days is brilliant as well. Echoes obviously gets a lot of credit, which it 110% deserves, but it’s not the only exceptional track on the album.
@@Bighomie39 Alans psychedelic breakfast is my favourite pink floyd song :( You just dont understand the vibe of epic psycheldic piano music and breakfast noises :)
If Fishmans had songs on that live album that were just straight up reggae, I’d understand finding it unimpressive. But all of the reggae influenced songs on that album have been put through a psychedelic, progressive dreamy filter and that’s what makes them stand out and interesting
@@PaulRobinsonOk Dub is rooted in reggae, and several of the tracks on the album are, by definition, reggae, or at least reggae fusion, with melodic lead bass, accented rim shot beats and one drop rhythms, and skanking rhythm guitar on the upbeats. I dont think the fact that there is a decent amount of it on the album really hurts it at all either. Fishmans, in my opinion, were the best non Jamaican reggae practitioners. They had a very idiosyncratic, experimental, and uniquely Japanese take on it.
I always thought that Neurosis as a metal band have always been underrated. I feel like their songs and albums deserve millions and millions of listeners but they don’t. Their album Through Silver in Blood is a real classic. One of the heaviest and darkest albums ever and I think, one of the best metal albums of all time. A lot of people love them, but I still think they deserve more recognition in the metal scene as they basically created post-metal single handedly
Anthony, I didn't think you were going to rate my family's 2005 holiday party photo album as the most underrated album of all time. But honestly I'm flattered. You can definitely come thru this year bro, HMU if you're in the area!
Yeeeeeee Fishmans made it to the channel. Anyway, i was like Fantano and dismissed the reggae tracks at first but the more i listened to the album (aswell as hearing their other stuff that wasn’t Long Season or Uchu Nippon Setagaya) the more the reggae or rather dub tracks started growing on me hard. There is something about the playfulness of songs like Thank You or Hikouki that just gets me going. But overall tho, i am one of those people who think 98.12.28 is the best live album of all time. Not only for it being the last performance by Fishmans but also because every song just hits a chord with you. Whether it be the dreamy tracks like Night Cruising and In the Flight or the more expansive epics like Yurameki in the Air and Long Season. This album will always hold a special place in my heart and seeing it get more recognition outside of RYM and /mu/ makes me very happy. Sorry if i was overdoing it with the gushing. I’m just so in love with this album.
Black On Both Sides is imo one of the few flawless hip hop albums. As someone who is most familiar with hip hop and not other genres, this was a gap in my 90s knowledge and holy is this thing amazing. I think I could name maybe 10-15 flawless hip hop albums and this would be one. Genius album

Yes and no. It isn't known in the mainstream and therefore is underrated as it isn't widely known, but to the heads it is heralded as one of the greatest hip hop releases period.
Joey Depp That's true, people go nuts for 'Pornography' or even 'Faith' but 'Seventeen Seconds' has a lovely, dark, homespun feel to it that really deserves more attention.

IMO, the HIStory album by Michael Jackson is a lot better than most of the general public would have you believe. This is probably the closest the man ever came to a proper concept album and it's done expertly in my opinion. Cuts such as Stranger in Moscow, Scream, and They Don't Care About Us rank up there in terms of his most experimental songs production wise and lyric wise.
@@Hemaglox Big agree! Earth Song itself is a masterpiece, but Stranger in Moscow is an underrated gem for me. I legit discovered it via the MJ: The Experience game, and I'm glad it's in my life.
The Libertines - Up The Bracket. Easily the best indie record to come out of the UK in the last 15 years but outside of the UK it is relatively unknown
That's a weird one because it took over the UK but they were barely known elsewhere. I actually think their second album was underrated. It was so shambly and emotional, I think people found it underdone but I loved that about it. Same with first Babyshambles album.
Queen II is actually extremely underrated . They really dug into their heavy-ish sound . It might not be the most underrated album but it is a most definitely a masterpiece .
@@TheMACnator Side 1 has Father to Son (an epic opener) White Queen (An emotional ballad) Some Day One Day (A beautiful Brian May acoustic piece) What do you mean weak?
Yasiin Bey aka Mo's Def definitely deserves MORE flowers while he's still with us. I do wish he'd make more hip-hop even if it was independentally. Purpose? I'd say to educate the youth. But he seems pretty far gone from music nowadays. I get it. He was never gonna play the industry game in the long run but you can do your own thing independentally and fans will always support. Another Black Star album would be insane if that ever happened.
There’s a really underrated album I know about, it’s called Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. It’s super underground though, so you normies probably won’t know it
I'm just gonna have to mention my favorite album of all time here: Honeysuckle Strange by Howlin' Maggie. It got some critical attention for a very short while after its release in 1996, and a few of the tracks got some indie and alt-rock radio play, but its themes of self-destructive behavior, industry bullshit, frustration, and mental health are well-executed and eternal. If you are reading this, there is a chance you have possibly heard either "Alcohol" or "I'm a Slut", but I'd implore anyone with even a passing interest in 90's alt-rock to give the album a full listen as it is a masterclass in cohesion of the seemingly disparate elements of grit and haunting.
AGREE with Chinese Democracy! I was getting into GNR during late-middle school early-high school when CD came out. I obviously expected it to be nothing like the original GNR sound, but there are some great ballads on there (Catcher In The Rye, Better, Shackler's Revenge, There was a Time). Obviously some misses and agree with some odd industrial style attempts, but it's not a "bad" album at all. Axl still sings his ass off.
Humbug by Arctic monkeys is my favourite of theirs and I think criminally underrated for me. The musicianship, trippy concepts and as a drummer. The best drumming from them.
Jeopardy by The Sound is a post punk masterpiece, the only reason the album and band are basically unknown by the masses is because the label never promoted their music
They're one of my most listened artists of all time. I don't think they're underrated though. They're not well known, but they get a lot of praise from those who know them.
As much as people loved to hate Limp Bizkit, their debut album is insane and immensely underrated. The riffs by Wes Borland, the funky basslines of a then teen Sam Rivers along with his cousin John Otto with some tight drumming. Sam & John studied jazz in college and you can really tell, the groove, tightness and allround instrumental prowess is really something most people haven't discovered since they hate the band solely because of Fred Durst and the fact that they've only heard Rollin' and Nookie.
man that album had some really solid tracks Counterfeit, the trio of Sour/Stalemate/Clunk I will admit some moments of it have not aged gracefully (need I bring up the cover of George Michael's Faith?) but it's got some highlights for sure. Nowhere near as bad as it gets a reputation for being.
Deceit by This Heat: it's noisy and abrasive as hell but as a soundtrack for nuclear armageddon (and any other sort of armageddon) it really works. SPQR, Cenotaph, and New Kind of Water all are awesome in very different way.
thanks for introducing me to Mos Def! I used to only really listen to modern hip hop music, but you've introduced me to tons of old-school rappers, so now I listen to a mix of 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, and 20's
Who will cut my hair when you’re gone- The Unicorns, is a gem waiting to be uncovered and glorified by anyone who has not heard it yet. Fantano has discussed it before with high praise. It’s a quirky and glorious monument.
Probably got a higher chance of getting a Classic review than favourites like Sufjan Stevens esp. with Fantano exploring relatively more obscure cult favourites outside of /mu/ cores.
@@fiftyclown Strongly implied. The Unicorns are given a 9 on Fantano's RYM account but The Postal Service's 'Give Up' is another 9 which he eventually gives a Classic review to with the description saying that it's one of the best records in the 2000s. Given how opinions on albums can change especially with Fantano, it's likely that WWCOHWWG is a solid 10. For citation purpose: ua-cam.com/video/SM579Up7yC0/v-deo.html
I'm pissed that Richard Wright's album Broken China is so obscure. He was a member of Pink Floyd, the third-best-selling band of all time, for fourteen years, and then his double album collab with Sinead O"Connor is so unknown it's not even on UA-cam. Fucking insanity.
Rick Wright in general is way too underrated. He doesn't get enough credit as a keyboardist and a songwriter, which I don't get because he was the backbone of PF if you ask me.
Wow, that album must incredibly obscure. I'm a huge Sinéad fan and seek out all of her collabs, and I've never heard of this album once in my life. It's not for sale on itunes and amazon has it for like $90, or $50 used. I'm glad you mentioned it, though. I'll try to hear it somehow.

“Overhated”
it seems like it hurts Melon to even day "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy"
That album is not underrated.
Max Smart who said it was?
@@diegoflores8764 it seems like jack was inplying that.
Max Smart not really bud
Max Smart i never said or implied that it was underrated
Electric Light Orchestra’s Discovery was pretty much universally panned by critics at the time and I think a lot of people think it’s cheesy but I love every single track. It is also a huge influence on Daft Punk.
Melon, I don’t think every Kendrick Lamar album is the most underrated
@ECCO Nah
uu is
The bass intros are underrated
This one was pretty cool.
Yes
First listened to Black on Both Sides this year. It was my first exposure to Mos Def and it's already become a top 10 if not top 5 hip hop record
It’s phenomenal along with Black Star’s self titled album.
Echoes obviously gets a lot of credit, which it 110% deserves, but it’s not the only exceptional track on the album.
jsmarty1 meddle really doesn't get the praise it deserves
Fuck yes, I adore that album
I think the reason why AHM is rated the way that it is is just because Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast is just that awful of a track.
@@Bighomie39 Alans psychedelic breakfast is my favourite pink floyd song :( You just dont understand the vibe of epic psycheldic piano music and breakfast noises :)
For anyone wondering what Melon was singing at the Patreon section, the track is Kiss Me, Son of God by They Might Be Giants.
Thanks a lot

I'm surprised that he's only reviewed them once.

Let’s argue: Melon kinda looks like light skinned bald juice wrld
Let’s agree*
Wait Anthony’s White?
Fantano is birracial
It’s his friendly face
Very intriguing, valid observation king. However, in my humble opinion, he looks more like a Thicc Moby.
Give a man a melon, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to melon, and you feed him for a lifetime.
Let's........ Agree!
I unironically agree

Lmao
Plot twist: you can't teach a man to melon. He has to it on his own terms on his own time.
Melon needs to review fishmans
I just got into fishmans like a few weeks ago!! They should be more popular in the West
If Fishmans had songs on that live album that were just straight up reggae, I’d understand finding it unimpressive. But all of the reggae influenced songs on that album have been put through a psychedelic, progressive dreamy filter and that’s what makes them stand out and interesting
Even "Airplane", the straight up unfiltered rocksteady song on the album is a banger!
It isn't even accurate to call it reggae either. It's dub music
I honestly think Anthony has really boring taste and of course he wouldn’t find their dub influenced songs appealing.
I didn't even realize its influenced by reggae when I listened to that album every night haha
Morphine’s entire discography is criminally underrated when compared to the rising stars and one-hit wonders of the early 90s.
You're speakin' my language.
Through Silver In Blood is probably my favorite metal album period
Literally one of the only metal bands I like
I've never in my life heard someone speak ill of Black on Both Sides.
Your Name Here on god
Your Name Here I haven’t gotten to that point in the video but I can’t trust someone’s music taste if they dislike BOBS. Every song on it is great.

@@Rohit-jv7nl cmon why u hadda drag peep into this
Yeah right. Now the Ecstatic, maybe.
Let’s agree: Anthony looks like he’s auditioning to be Joe Exotic’s next husband
Nah too many teeth
Mos Def's "The Ecstatic" is also such an amazing album. Especially the track "Auditorium". A real legend of Hip-Hop.
I just discovered the album and I was looking for ANYONE talking about it. What a masterpiece man. Lisstening ot Revelationss as I type this
Red Medicine by Fugazi definitely seems to get less love for an inexplicable reason. One of their best in my opinion.
Absolute masterpiece, definitely my favorite from them
Anthony, I didn't think you were going to rate my family's 2005 holiday party photo album as the most underrated album of all time. But honestly I'm flattered. You can definitely come thru this year bro, HMU if you're in the area!
The guy with the Weezer take has likely been in a coma since 1996. Literally no one thinks Pinkerton is underrated.
also why do i feel like every time Melon does a let's argue some idiot throws in their stale Weezer takes. There's other goddman music out there!
I was just going to comment the exact same thing! It the only reason they could think this!!
weezer fans are worse than tool fans
Jacob Parsons Thats a stretch man. Tools fans are something else sometimes.
Yeah I agree. Pinkerton is my favourite album of all time, and even I agree it's far from underrated
I guess I can say that I love this album too.
I found Long Season to be pretty average to be honest.
98.12.28(live) is the best album of all time imo
it's a titanic masterpiece. i think every human being should hear yurameki in the air...
can someone tell ne what /mu/ is? I've seen it a lot but still don't know what it is
Black On Both Sides is imo one of the few flawless hip hop albums. As someone who is most familiar with hip hop and not other genres, this was a gap in my 90s knowledge and holy is this thing amazing. I think I could name maybe 10-15 flawless hip hop albums and this would be one. Genius album
which albums would you call flawless?
@@joeyterheide5426 MBDTF (I hate giving Kanye praise rn but this is a perfect album imo and one of the only ones), Atrocity Exhibition, TPAB, Madvillainy, IGOR, Yeezus, GKMC, Piñata, Aquemini, The Blueprint, Illmatic, and The Forever Story (if it ages well, so far it has). Definitely, I think cudi all around is very underrated, I don’t feel that he ever got the cred/ rep he really deserved. I also feel that Kanye could’ve been a better friend to him which I feel is also kinda why he isn’t as popular, he’s big on Spotify now because of Travis Scott which I’m not happy about but I hope it leads people to see that he really is a great artist. His album 'Rear View Mirror' is even better if you ask me. Townes is like 70% of all I listen to.
The Mollusk by Ween (the guys that did Ocean Man), that album is fantastic but it doesn’t get talked about nearly as much as it deserves

Stranger in Moscow is incredible

The Libertines - Up The Bracket. Easily the best indie record to come out of the UK in the last 15 years but outside of the UK it is relatively unknown
One of the few albums I could listen to over and over again without getting bored

Ronas Dembowski Pog
Ronas Dembowski it’s sarcasm. I understand if you’re on the spectrum or if English isn’t your first language, sarcasm doesn’t always translate.
I freakin love Catcher in the Rye I don't know what it is about that slow chugging groove but its addicting
Brian Krosky There Was a Time -> one of the best rock songs of the past decade, and it has one of the best solos of the past decade too.
