Ugh, I totally forgot that I got a feather board a couple months ago! I can't believe I forgot about it. That definitely would have made it easier and probably a little safer as well. Good call!
I use WLED for every led thing I make. I’ve bought close to 30 esp devices for projects for myself and other people, even made a control panel with a power button, brightness control, and preset selector knob that works amazingly well. Also fairyreef is my favorite palette.
WLED is really awesome! Glad you agree! That sounds amazing! did you by any chance make a video on how to do that?! I would love to watch it if you did!
Lol yeah I tried finding a video on youtube how to make it before I started but couldn't find a single one! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Thanks for watching! Yeah I never know how long to make the final pictures/videos. I though about installing it down one of my hallways but ended up not doing it. Maybe in a follow up video i will. Thanks!!
@@ChrisMaherDIY good video idea would be on a diy of the govee lyra floor lamp, or a review. I have it and its pretty cool! Your room looks sick with all of that led
Very clean! I like how premium it looks even if you decided to take de "cheap" route (paper instead of acrylic and the paper roll for the wires) Great job
Thanks buddy! Glad you liked the project and thanks for watching! It might not be good enough for everyone but luckily I'm not a perfectionist lol Have a good one!
Little pro tip: Don't cut 45s on your inside corners. A cleaner and better fit is to run all the way into the corner on one. For the piece that will now butt up to that, cut it just a hair longer than you need. Then start on the free end and work toward the corner. You'll have to tap the end into the corner. After that, a tiny bit of wood putty across the top and inside edge and you'll have what appears to be a seamless connection. The reason for this is that getting walls perfectly perpendicular to each other and getting two perfect 45s is a lot less likely than simple square cuts.
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. That's a great tip and as you can probably tell, I don't know much about woodworking so I appreciate all the advice I can get! Thanks!!
@@ChrisMaherDIY No worries. Everyone starts somewhere. Also, if you have normal trim, you'll need a coping saw for my trick to work. Lastly, and I forgot to say in my OP, really cool light setup. Provides just enough ambient light for pauses during movies.
Wow. This is amazing. I have to look bit I hope younshowed us how to do those corner pieces that look like skyscrapers this room is awesome I think you're my hero!! Lol
Well, all in here makes sense to me. :) We use paper for making lanterns after all! If you want to still go the cheap route but make it a little more resistant, try different fabrics instead of papers. You can explore patterns and textures, see what you like the most. Very nice budget build for an awesome effect. Will be saving this.
Thanks so much for watching and for the great advice! Experimenting with different textures and styles is for sure a fun part of building something! Thanks!
cool project just an fyi, that 45 deg cross cut you made was super dangerous, you shouldn't make those cuts with the board against the fence, because if the piece turns it will grab and pull your hand into the blade, you should always use your miter gauge for that type of cut if you dont want to make a sled
Yeah I never would have thought paper would do such a good job but being that there are no visible seems, it just looks very clean at night when lit up! Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions if you try making it yourself!
Thanks so much! Based on some comments I think I will try making a video on the controlling aspect. Although it is pretty easy. I have about 4 esp8266 modules in the room all hooked up to the different lights. They all have WLED on them. WLED has a feature where you can control all the lights at once with the push of a button. That's pretty much it but I'll for sure try making a video going into more details soon. Thanks again!
Well then.... if'n you'll excuse me I need to make a trip to Lowes and order some more Govee LED strips. The results you achieved look awesome, and far exceeded what I expected especially for the cost of your materials! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much for watching. I'm just using the free app called WLED to control everything. You just need to install the program onto a wifi board and then download the app on your phone or computer. Here is a video I made on getting things set up! ua-cam.com/video/TOEnFKLm9Sw/v-deo.html
Hi Chris I did like the way to enhance the environment of the room. I must say it is incredibly beautiful and would take the opportunity to do a simple project for my room in near future. Hats of to you Chris.
I'd call the second operation(second and third cuts) Rabbeting. Granted you're not using that connect to anything but I think it's still the term. LEDs don't like making turns in that direction. The little clips you used or soldering is nearly required. I like that paper idea for diffusion. Something I haven't nailed yet for my projects. Looks great!
Very nice. I did a very similar build but used a couple diffused fluorescent light covers cut into strips to diffuse the light. I also had the corner problem and just made 3/4" squares instead of a triangle.
Thanks! I'm just using WLED installed on an esp board: ua-cam.com/video/TOEnFKLm9Sw/v-deo.html WLED allows you to change all the lights at once which I am doing manually in the video. Hopefully I can figure out how to do it automatically but I'm not at that level yet!
This looks amazing! How do you control all the lights together and create that effect? What are you driving the LED's with, would love to know more about teh electrical setup.
Hi chris I am from India i inspired from your video i also made trim led light with using profile the output is so good i learn from your video's thank u keep doing
Very innovative ( as always ) . Happy that i subbed to your channel. I can see your projects progressing and getting more innovative. There are thousands of channels doing the same RGB decorative stuff and copying each other . Keep up the amazing work :)
Great Ideas and Implementation. But until the end i just didn't know which piece was on top/below or inside/outside facing. Suggest u show the design before implementation.
Woah man, this looks so good! I'll definitely be making this! I'm also really surprised that you don't have at least 100k subs since your video looks professional!
Budget and it works. Paper might not work on floor led due to physical interaction but on the ceiling, this could probably do. Many thanks for the idea.
looking at doing a similar setup to go around a room i’m looking for 25m led strip to look the same as this any pointers on what i need would be great thanks
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! I've never done a project that big but If I did, I would maybe try going with some 12v led strips instead of the 5v. The 12v would not need as much power injection. But I would first order the lights, then the power supply and lay everything out on the floor and begin to test things out. I would start with no power injection and see how things look and then go from there. Most of what I do is just trial and error until It looks good enough for my standards!
Thanks so much! I made the LED towers in the corners. Here is the video I made for those! ua-cam.com/video/ZB5HqWhMXNo/v-deo.html I also since made a different type of corner led project and the link to that one is here: ua-cam.com/video/rIbTzUD2E4k/v-deo.html
Thank you for sharing. I have been trying to figure out how to do this myself. :) I'm curious if you think it is possible to say, "hey Google light a path to the bathroom." And then the lights light up lol. I'm a dork 😅
Some of probably already mentioned it ...love the work but for safety buy a good push stick man. I want you to keep your fingers. Great work ..it looks beautiful
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Yeah I for sure should have used a push stick! I even have one so I dont know why I didn't! Thanks for looking out my friend!
@@hmurchison8123 I've always been amazed at walking into some older dad's garages and seeing the crazy number of tools they have. I'm begining to understand how it happens lol.
I like your ideas and your creativity. The "dad" in me wants you to secure your chop saw to your workbench or whatever surface you are using. An unattached chop saw will eventually chop YOU. Cheers sir and good work
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Thanks for the advice! woodworking is something I am still very new at and appreciate all the tips i can get. Appreciate it!
The cut you made at 7:45 is wicked dangerous! I'm not normally one of these safety trolls, but that's a big table saw no-no. You never make a through cut on a board thats wider than it is long. Especially with those push blocks that don't have a cleat on them. I like the project otherwise. Good job.
@@ChrisMaherDIY No problem man! Check out a few vids about making a crosscut sled, that would have made the cut safe. Or even the miter gauge that came with the saw. But never use the saw fence for crosscuts. I have a dent in my wall to explain why! Keep making great content man!
Pine is very prone to warping under normal conditions. Paint only one side and you've made it worse. The acrylic would have helped a _little_ , but paper is basically a moisture wick. Add in the heat, minor as it is, from the LEDs, and I'd be very surprised if that thin section doesn't curl up and/or crack on you.. probably by now, since it's three months later. Paint both sides of the wood (yes, even though it won't be seen) to seal it. Sealing any end grain will help too. Wood glue works great for this - end grain will soak up a LOT of paint. If it'll be seen, sand the end grain well, then coat it with wood glue and give it a few minutes to soak in. Wipe or scrape off any excess and let the glue dry. Now you can sand lightly and paint it. The glue will help fill some of those deep pits that pine sometimes has when you cut across the grain. If you want it perfectly flat, use wood filler, but do the glue trick first. Most wood fillers are water based these days, and water + end grain... nope.
Thanks so much for watching and thanks for the great woodworking tips and advice! Thats such great information and I'll for sure remember this! Thank buddy!
Thanks so much! Honestly, i have yet to find a good way to diffuse the 30 leds/meter strips with any of the diffuser channels you can find on amazon. These channels that I found recently do the best but there are still slight hotspots. ua-cam.com/video/1SKo_HdKVYA/v-deo.html To eliminate hotpots completely on 30 led/meter strips you simply just have to keep moving the diffuser away from the lights until the look is achieved.
Does each light strip have a separate controller or do you have them all connected? I'd like a simple way to just have mine turn on when I turn my TV on. Currently my light strip is connected by USB to back of TV, so when senses TV power they turn on and off. But your setup is great and I'm going to try my own pillar lights.
Thanks for watching! That would be cool to have them automatically turn on. I'm sure there is a way to do that but I have not looked into it. I also dont have a tv down here. Its just a projector. As for controlling them, I have them all connected to an esp8266 with WLED installed (how to video for that if interested: ua-cam.com/video/l8OMi7SMpqs/v-deo.html) But one awesome feature of WLED is you can sync all the lights together so with the click of a button on the app, you can control them all.
Question, I plan on doing this for my entire house. Will a cheaper govee strip work? I'd love a small amount of guidance, currently looking at using the H617F. I would have to splice them around doorways. Is that possible with these? Should be around 200 feet with each 100 foot section running the opposite way and meeting at the end.
Thanks so much for watching buddy! I use a free program called WLED that is installed on a small esp module. I made a video that walks you through the steps on how to get up and running so you can easily do animations like this: ua-cam.com/video/TOEnFKLm9Sw/v-deo.html

You should invest in a set of feather boards for your table saw. They keep the piece of material that you are cutting pressed against the fence.
Ugh, I totally forgot that I got a feather board a couple months ago! I can't believe I forgot about it. That definitely would have made it easier and probably a little safer as well. Good call!
That is the cheapest yet best looking diffusion of RGB L.E.Ds I've ever seen.
Thanks so much Aaron! Appreciate you taking the time to comment and to watch!
Didn't know I needed RGB baseboards till now. Looks great!
Lol yeah I tried finding a video on youtube how to make it before I started but couldn't find a single one! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Creative and great use of the long thin paper and the rolled-up poster paper!
Thanks! It definitly makes for a seemless look and much better than using a bunch of regular size sheets of paper. Thanks for watching!
👏 for eliminating the hotspots. Great craftsmanship makes a difference, regardless of materials used
Thanks so much! Appreciate the kind words!
the end result surprised me way more than i expected. would've loved to see a longer video on the end result in different settings :)
Thanks for watching! Yeah I never know how long to make the final pictures/videos. I though about installing it down one of my hallways but ended up not doing it. Maybe in a follow up video i will. Thanks!!
I love that. If only I had an extra room that I could make into a cinema, it would certainly be like yours. 🤩🤩🤩
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! I'm glad you like the look!
You impress me every time. Damn man. Nice work
Thanks buddy! I appreciate that. I'm glad you liked the project! Thanks for watching.
This is super badass. My kids would love this. Thanks for the video
Little pro tip:
Don't cut 45s on your inside corners.
Thanks!!
@@ChrisMaherDIY
No worries. Everyone starts somewhere. Also, if you have normal trim, you'll need a coping saw for my trick to work.
Lastly, and I forgot to say in my OP, really cool light setup. Provides just enough ambient light for pauses during movies.
I was like how will that works then keep watching .. wow creative! Good job man!
Thanks so much and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching buddy!
This is awesome Chris. Really great idea man.👏👏
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video. I'm a huge fan of your work! Thanks again for watching buddy!
This is so well done with a fantastic result. Can't wait to buy my own place to be able to do this!

that towers reacts on sound thats amazing😍

Those are sick man! Very well done!
Thanks buddy! Excited to see your next project! Yours are always so epic!

Thanks!
What paper is used?
cool project just an fyi, that 45 deg cross cut you made was super dangerous, you shouldn't make those cuts with the board against the fence, because if the piece turns it will grab and pull your hand into the blade, you should always use your miter gauge for that type of cut if you dont want to make a sled
At first I was like "LOL Paper!?!?!?" Now I'm like "....paper...? hmmm..."
Great job, looks awesome. I'm tempted to do similar now!
Yeah I never would have thought paper would do such a good job but being that there are no visible seems, it just looks very clean at night when lit up! Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions if you try making it yourself!
Nice job Chris. Good luck finding your new home!
Thanks so much! Its a crazy market out there at least in MN!
Need this around my whole house!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Lol that would be quite the project doing in the entire house!
Looks incredible and so simple. Even the rolled up paper looks good lol
Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked the video and my cheap ways of doing things lol.
What an awesome outcome… could you go into more depth about how the leds are controlled and syncing with the video?
Thanks for sharing!
lol glad you liked the project! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!
Honestly the tube to hide the wires looks great!
Lol thanks buddy! Its not bad and its kind of tucked away in the corner anyways so its not very visible! Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Now here is something I wanted thanks man for giving the great idea with cheap budget ❤️
You are very welcome and thanks so much for watching!!
So awesome. How do you get the lights to dance around like that
Thanks so much for watching. I'm just using the free app called WLED to control everything. You just need to install the program onto a wifi board and then download the app on your phone or computer. Here is a video I made on getting things set up! ua-cam.com/video/TOEnFKLm9Sw/v-deo.html
Hi Chris
I did like the way to enhance the environment of the room. I must say it is incredibly beautiful and would take the opportunity to do a simple project for my room in near future. Hats of to you Chris.
Thanks so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed the project. Let me know if you have any questions down the road! Thanks for watching!
I love the shirt! 116 is great to listen to, i have been to a few different concerts and they were always great!
I agree! Never saw them in person but really like their music. Good stuff for sure!
@@ChrisMaherDIY if you get the chance, and like concerts, check them out. Mineo has a fun concert.
Man, that turned out AMAZINGLY!
Thanks for watching and thanks for letting me know the correct term! Rabbeting! Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Thanks again!
Very nice. I did a very similar build but used a couple diffused fluorescent light covers cut into strips to diffuse the light. I also had the corner problem and just made 3/4" squares instead of a triangle.
Thats a great idea! Yeah, part of the fun is trying to come up with solutions and materials that will work! Thanks for watching!
Hey thank you for sharing what a great project fantastic job I think I will be motivated to do something similar for my TV room thank you

Wow! Thank you for doing this. I have been wanting to do something like this for my childrens room.
You are very welcome and thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed. Let me know if you have any questions!
What was the led controller? I liked how the colors matched the colors on the tv
Thanks! I'm just using WLED installed on an esp board: ua-cam.com/video/TOEnFKLm9Sw/v-deo.html WLED allows you to change all the lights at once which I am doing manually in the video. Hopefully I can figure out how to do it automatically but I'm not at that level yet!
Straight up looks like a vrchat world haha. Super cool

even with the price cuts you make it still looks really professional, great job. :)

Budget and it works. Paper might not work on floor led due to physical interaction but on the ceiling, this could probably do. Many thanks for the idea.
Thanks so much for watching and glad you liked the video! Always many different ways to do things for sure!!
looking at doing a similar setup to go around a room i’m looking for 25m led strip to look the same as this any pointers on what i need would be great thanks
What's the paper that you use as the diffuser?
bookmarking this video for a future project.. Thanks for this man! :)

@@ChrisMaherDIY I'm so doing this in my apartment
I like this idea and will hopefully do it in my future house, does the acrylic look as bright as the paper does ?
Id say the acrylic is a little brighter looking but more expensive. Cant go wrong with either one but if you have the money, the acrylic looks great!
This is beautiful. Where did you get the towers from beside the tv?
Thanks so much! I made the LED towers in the corners. Here is the video I made for those! ua-cam.com/video/ZB5HqWhMXNo/v-deo.html I also since made a different type of corner led project and the link to that one is here: ua-cam.com/video/rIbTzUD2E4k/v-deo.html

@@ChrisMaherDIY Your work is good. Your tool chest should be pretty nice in a decade.
I appreciate the safety advice! I need all the help I can get so thats good to know! Thanks again!
Amazing, only thing i would recomend is use a miter gauge to cut your bevel block, easy to get a kick back on a tablesaw doing that.

Dang bro. That was genius and so simple.
Thanks so much! Glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
The cut you made at 7:45 is wicked dangerous! I'm not normally one of these safety trolls, but that's a big table saw no-no. You never make a through cut on a board thats wider than it is long. Especially with those push blocks that don't have a cleat on them. I like the project otherwise. Good job.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! I'm definitely new at woodworking so I'll take all the advice i can get! Good looking out buddy!
@@ChrisMaherDIY No problem man! Check out a few vids about making a crosscut sled, that would have made the cut safe. Or even the miter gauge that came with the saw. But never use the saw fence for crosscuts. I have a dent in my wall to explain why! Keep making great content man!
For a temp job going budget, looks really good. Quite impressive.
Great job, I am going to steal this one.
Thanks buddy! Glad you liked the video and thanks for taking the time to comment!
Love the video, and what would be a decent way to diffuse 30leds / m strips without Hotspot by chance
@@ChrisMaherDIY those look nice might have to compare the price to the silicone t1616
That it came out nice, damn i would that in my game room with all the RGB i have. Nice Job!
Thanks so much and thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad you liked the finished results! Thanks for watching!
Thanks, for your channel testing BTF-Lighting LED, and have done a good job.
You are very welcome! Love your lights!
Very clever and cost effective way of doing that!
thanks so much for watching and glad you liked the video!
Nice videos Chris! I still don't understand, how do you control the lights? How do you set the flow (the running lights)
Thanks so much for watching buddy! I use a free program called WLED that is installed on a small esp module. I made a video that walks you through the steps on how to get up and running so you can easily do animations like this: ua-cam.com/video/TOEnFKLm9Sw/v-deo.html
