    EXTRA INFO⤵
    Since I had to condense this video into a reasonable length, some of extra details have been left out, but are available here: lifeanddiy.com/yt-tca-at-home
    I forgot to mention that I put retinol on my skin an hour after the TCA peel (in order to speed up the peeling process). I washed it off after an hour or two later. I applied it once on day two as well. For those interested, Platinum Skincare sells a peel booster of high strength retinol to be used in this same way (but I had my own so I used what I had). The rest of the details of the experience are on my website, for anything I may have forgotten to put in the video. Also, it is so important to use something to prevent post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Platinum Skincare sells a Fade Booster for that, otherwise the Ordinary sells Alpha Arbutin which also works well. I have been using both during and after this process (and it's also good to use it the two weeks before you do the TCA).
    COUPON & WHERE I BOUGHT IT⤵
    I purchased this 20% TCA peel from Platinum Skincare. They also sell lower strength TCA Peels as well as a 30% TCA for use on the body, in addition to other skincare products & peels that I hope to try in the future.
    If interested, here is a coupon code for 10% off your order: www.platinumskincare.com?afmc=holly10

    Full disclaimer is below. Here I just want to give a personal note: Please be extremely careful if you are considering doing a TCA peel at home. Do extensive research. It is also never recommended to start out with anything but the lowest peel available. Whatever you do is at your own risk. Most people do not do TCA peels unless they have worked their way up from lower strength peels - like Glycolic peels. But, Platinum Skincare does sell a lower strength TCA peel starting at 7%.

    I have been doing tca peels for about 10 years now. ( two professional and the others are home-peels) I like to see good frosting happen because those areas go brown over the next few days and seem to produce better results after peeling off. I don't think my skin would be as good as it is without TCA peels (I am 65).

      Thanks for sharing this. I have newer TCA peel videos and my last one shows a much better amount of frosting. I was determined to get a good even frost and it was well worth it. Like you said, you get much, much better results. How often have you done the TCA peels?

      I probably do a couple a year, but not a full face now as hard to get the time to stay "in hiding" lol. I have always had pigmentation, (like irregular sun spots not the cute type of freckles, unfortunately). Now, I usually do an area at a time, like forehead, or one cheek which is easier to disguise if you have to go to shops etc. I have tried many things before tca but nothing works as good (and as fast) as tca. I tell people do not bother with anything else, not even any of the lasers. They (lasers & other peels) do not work, just hype and designed to take your money and lock you into repeat treatments. Tca has been a godsend for my skin. Love your channel.

    • @Ann-ly5lk
      @Ann-ly5lk 5 місяців тому +3

      @@LS-ue8zx yes, I think so. Only pigmentation from sun damage has been my issue but definitely think pores and scars would also improve but probably take repeated peels to get a really good result (as do most skin issues). If you haven't done a peel before, I would do a lower percentage, say 15 or 20%, just to get started to experiment. If it improves those conditions, do a peel more often, and/or "layer" the solution onto the skin to get an even better result. (Not an expert by any means, just know what has worked for me. Good luck.)

    Good job. No worries at achieving a solid frost. It isn’t a “goal” by any means. You will get flaking either way. ...yes, you definitely applied more on the forehead. Good thinking at doing just the lower face at that point.
    Wait 5 minutes in between each layer to give your skin time to neutralize. Tca is self-neutralizing. Just rinse with some cold water when your time is up. Enjoy your peel!!! And keep it up!! Do a full peel series to get your BEST results.

    I NEVER go on after the first frost. It increases your chance of getting hyperpigmentation. OH, I'm so GLAD you said that you don't go over frosted areas. And yes, for me too sometimes it's super frosty but most times it's only a slight frost.

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Рік тому

      Yes for sure. Thanks for this comment and great reminder! It's always better to be safe with TCA peels. There's a fine line between pushing it far enough to give you great results, and then overdoing it and then possibly having hyperpigmentation. It all depends on what you do and how your skin handles it and how you've prepped for the peel, etc. I did a TCA peel video after this one - ua-cam.com/video/aIXhcABA054/v-deo.html and in that one I did go over certain areas in the end, to make the frosting more pronounced. Not everyone should do that and it is a gamble the first time you do it. I was very lucky because to me it was just the right amount/strength in order to get some great results. It's still always best to be more cautious with the TCA peels. And, it isn't necessary to take that risk because you can do a series of milder TCA peels and still get amazing results. :)

    Hi, I love platinum skin care products!!! I used to go to spas to get peelings and it was expensive. After watching their tutorials for about a year, I dared to order the 13%. I had to put 4 layers of the 13% but I used regular alcohol which I think did not prep my skin as well. Anyhow, I ended up ordering the 20% but I also ordered their prep solution. I put one layer of the 13% around my eye area and two layers of the 20% in my face and I had awesome results!!!!! 😊 I am still peeling a little but my skin looks beautiful and I am no spring chicken! 😂

    Holly, this was very informative . So did you put the 50% retinol on after the peel to help it peel faster? How many days? I’m so glad you liked the Platinum TCA peel. Interesting that different company skincare TCA have different results. No, I still haven’t done my lower strength TCA peel yet. I’m not as brave as you. You are so right about warning others NOT to pull the skin off during a peel. I did it once on a tiny spot and regretted it. No one else warned like you did.

      Laura! Thank you! This whole thing is thanks to you and the other commenter VOIP Portland! You two told me about this so thank you!!! I did put Retinol or Retin-A on about two hours after I applied the TCA as my skin was not too happy at that time directly after the TCA application. I let it calm down a little. I ended up washing my face and reapplying serums a couple hours after I first applied the Retin-A, though you can just leave it on and wash your face the next morning. Then, on day 2, I ended up (in the morning) putting Retin-A on again. For Platinum Skincare - they actually recommend applying their Retinol booster product every day until the peeling starts. But, I only did it two days as my Retinol is kind of strong. Let me know when you end up doing a TCA peel. I think it will be ok if your skin is used to other peels. I really hope you have a great 2020 too! It's always so nice hearing from you!

      Life & DIY I’m just so happy your UA-cam channel is taking off. You are so genuine, smart and nice !
      I know you mentioned putting retinol on and washing off, but I wasn’t sure about the other post peel days. Is the retinol booster 50%?
      By the way, that 20% off Platinum Skincare is a great offer ! Wish I had that when I ordered a bunch from them. I have their TCA eye peel kit and TCA lip peel kit. I’m crazy because I order these things but am afraid (and lazy) to do them. I’m still micro needling a lot. I see lip lines forming on me which I hate. I’ve been using growth factor serums and Retin A, so peels have taken a back seat. I know one needs to prep skin with a pigment inhibitor for two weeks for best results- like your mentioned - and Im haphazard in the Fade Peel prep. People can sure learn a lot from you re: peels. Your beauty and lovely skin helps “sell” peels too. 😉
      I’m waiting to hear about your DNAage results. I want to order it, but is kind of scary to get the results 😬. Take care 😘

    How long after the healing process is complete, would you say it’s safe to use retin-a? And if already using retin A would I need to break for a period of time before doing a peel so I don’t get any adverse reactions? Thank you!! This video was super informative

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  4 роки тому

      Ney Rose, what a pretty name. After a TCA peel - it kind of depends on your skin. And, it wouldn't really do any harm to use it as long as most of the peeling has stopped. Just might cause a bit more flaking. For me, if I did a TCA peel, I would stop the retin A a day or so before the peel. Using it before the peel is great because you will get a more even, better peel. Then, after the peeling stops, (maybe 5-6 days) I would then feel fine using Retin A again. I know it is hard if you are so used to using Retin A regularly. Also, many people (right after applying the peel) - that night or following morning will use Retin A as it is supposed to speed up the process of the peeling. I did that last time. I think it sped it up by just a day.

    I’ve only done two 13% TCA peels from Platinum Skincare so far, but they seem quite effective. I had done a bunch of peels previously, but never TCA, so I wanted to start off with a lower strength and work my way up. I did one with 3 layers, and then the next month one with 4. Hoping next month I can tolerate 5 layers, but yeah, it does burn!
    I’ve found that when I do my balm/oil cleanse on day 4 or 5, most of my face peels off all at once, which is quite convenient. Once I’m through this box of peels, I’m going to try the 20%!

      M Shan, that is great. It's good you were safe and worked your way up. 20% is pretty strong but super effective - giving great results! • @mshan1495

      Life & DIY Yes! I spent about a year getting monthly peels at my derm-those were the Skinceuticals Miami Peel, which has glycolic, lactic, salicylic, & kojic acids, but is definitely milder than TCA. I’ve also purchased some glycolic, lactic, & salicylic acid peels from Amazon, but did not like those (especially the glycolic, which gave me a rash, but I think it was just that particular brand). I’ve been thinking of getting some more peels from Platinum Skincare, since I’ve been so pleased with their TCA peel. I also have Drunk Elephant Babyfacial, which I’ve heard is similar to the AHA/BHA one from The Ordinary. 😁

      That is such a good question! I have another TCA video that was way more in depth if you want to check it out. And, with that one, since I did a peel that was a bit stronger than the one here - I did have significant results. I think both needling and TCA peels are super effective in different ways. The TCA peel can give you a whole new look, appearance and really wipe away a few years and a few lines in a few peels (or less!). But, it seems like needling has even longer lasting effects on how your skin looks overall - the tone, sunspots and lines and wrinkles. It is so hard to figure it out. Certain lines were completed obliterated from the needling and others from the TCA. But, after doing the TCA last time and noticing so many lines gone around my eyes, some have come back (but I am not keeping up with the peels and they do recommend a series of them for longer lasting results) but with the needling, it has so far sustained itself in the lasting improvements. :) So, I am not sure! I need to do a video on this topic though as it is super interesting and I need to try to figure out a way to explain my thoughts on it better. :) Thank you for such a good question though!

    I have 100% tca that I’ve been using to spot treat my ice pick scars and so far so good. This stuff really works just gotta be careful. I’m going to dilute it to do this peel all around my face.

      And what was the progress on your ice pick scars?

    • @cinderellaasmr
      @cinderellaasmr 4 роки тому

      anam hanif I eye it out to dilute it but I pour just a lil bit like half a teaspoon and then I add 2-3 times more water. For example if you have 100% and want to dilute it to 50% you add the same amount of water as you have of the tca. Then to dilute the 50% you do the same to make it 25% and so on. I don’t have a measuring spoon or container so I just eye it. Once I put it on my face and I feel like there’s no tingles/stinging sensation I add a lil more tca. And my ice pick scars are doing great with tca crossing. I’ve only done the peel two times now but with the tca crossing it has been a life saver. There were two scars that I HATED! And with this they’re basically flat. One on my forehead and one by my nose which were very deep it took a few treatments to get them like that, I would wait until they were healed to try again. I have a few by my mouth area that I’m still using the tca for but are also looking much better. I have to still wait and see how my scars and skin overall do with the diluted peel though. Some brown spots faded from my first tca peel so that was good.

      T W, thanks so much. You are 100% correct about it being similar to getting used to plucking the eyebrows. The pain tolerance just increases with all these things. Hey Miu Miu! I haven't tried the TCA from dermedik. Thanks for the nice comment. Next time I do a video like this I will be sure to include the entire process. For now, I have posted everything in full detail here: lifeanddiy.com/yt-tca-at-home ...also it's important to prepare the skin before doing the peel if you have lighter skin and if you have darker skin too (or anyone who has had a history of sunspots or pigementation issues) - to use something to help prevent post inflammatory hyperpigementation. I have been using the Fade Bright serum from Platinum Skincare (but just ran out) and now I am using the Ordinary's Alpha Arbutin to prevent any issues. About the TCA peel I did - after it neutralized my face was very sore. That first day I ended up using a spray bottle with some water on it when it was sore. Also, it was very sensitive for a couple of hours after the TCA. Then, I ended up applying a Retinol cream to it and the Fade Bright serum - the Retinol is to try to speed up the process of peeling. I washed it off after a couple of hours. For most of the rest of the process I was using avocado oil mixed with hyaluronic acid serum. I didn't go back to my normal serums until after the peeling was mostly done and my skin was not sensitive at all - or else it might burn when applying. So, if it was sore or burning I would only use avocado and hyaluronic. I also used fresh aloe on my skin throughout the process and it helped immensely. You might want to check out the videos by Platinum Skincare as they are really helpful!

    Is this something that I can do never doing peels? What would be a good start for me? I currently use:

    I do the ordinary aha/bha peel 1x a week. And micro needling pen every 4-5 weeks.

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  4 роки тому +2

      Sounds like you have an awesome skincare routine! I love that peel by the Ordinary! If your skin is really used to that peel, I would think you would likely be fine starting with their lowest percentage peel at least. Platinum Skincare's lowest percentage is 7% and then after that I think they have a 13%. It's always good to be safe and spot test it too. Then they have 20% and then 30% for use on the body. If it were me I would possibly go with the 13% but the company and experts usually recommend the absolute lowest percentage to start with - just so you know how your skin handles it and because you can greatly strengthen the peel by doing more layers. I am curious - are you fine with using tretinoin and then also doing the AHA+BHA peel? That's the only thing - you may need to stop it for a few days before the peel. You might want to check on that. Because you are already doing the AHA+BHA peel regularly and also regularly using tretinoin, you may actually have quite good results even from their lowest percentage peel. Your skin will be nice and prepared already. The only other thing to keep in mind is that you should try to use something to prevent hyperpigmentation (not sure if your brightening ampoule may be for that) - so I have been using the Ordinary's Alpha Arbutin and was also using a Fade Bright serum from Platinum Skincare.

    • @DemiandDavid04
      @DemiandDavid04 4 роки тому

      Life & DIY thank you!! I do not use the aha/bha on the same night as tretinoin. I only do the peel 1x a week, if I do it more I get pimples. But I also absolutely love it! Tretinoin I do 3x a week. Whenever I micro needle I usually stop tretinoin a week before the needling session. I’ve been wanting to try alpha Arbutin! I’ll give that a try. Vitc c I do use daily, followed by spf. I’ve read that using it in the day helps with the free radicals.
      I’ll try the 13% but how often do I do the peel? Is it also every 4-6 weeks? And than after how many peels do I than bump up?

      @@DemiandDavid04 why do you need to do these peels so often? Anyway - I am one example of what not to do: I had 2 glycolic mild peels at a doc's office, but pulled on the half peeling skin and got tiny scars. A few weeks ago I bought a "blood"....not blood, just very red acid peel from The Ordinary. Felt like colored water. Tried it twice. Nothing. Bought lactic acid, mild strength. Felt like nothing and the results of 2 peels= worse than zero, because I see MORE fine wrinkles after the peels. Why am I writing this? Experimenting is nice,
      but maybe not everybody's skin gets the best results.

      @DemiandDavid04 4 роки тому +1

      Sandra Pastor sorry, so often? I only do a peel 1x a week. Which is the one you bought- the ordinary aha/bha peel. It is a chemical exfoliant, so technically I exfoliate my face once a week. I do not use physical exfoliators because they make the skin worse and cause tiny little micro tears in the skin. The ordinary peel is not a true peel, it is a light acid for exfoliation purposes. Micro NEEDLING are needles, for my acne scars, done every month and half, different from a peel. It sounds like you are doing a lot to your face, you need to give it time. And I mean 1-3 months or more. My skin is almost completely free of acne spots and scars after 4 months of doing the above. It takes time and patience, I found the simpler my routine, the better my skin reacted.

      @LifeDIY  3 роки тому

      Good question. I would never start at TCA if you didn't get your skin acclimated first and esp. if you have sensitive skin. You could start by doing Glycolic peels so your skin can adjust - or other types of lower strength peels. Lactic peels are good for sensitive skin, to start with. Then, eventually if you want to, you could start with the absolute lowest strength TCA once you feel ok with how your skin is handling other peels. Just be careful and do a lot of research!

    Do you rinse the product off before the baking soda solution?

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  4 роки тому

      No, I just use the baking soda solution and then wash the face after neutralizing it...I will then wash it with a mild soap and then water.

    • @a.n.watson8797

      Life & DIY ok so you used the solution on top of the chemical still on your face? Then rinsed it? The washed it?

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  4 роки тому

      @@a.n.watson8797 yeah when I am done with peel, i apply the neutralizer (with TCA still on my face). But to be extra safe, after that I will rinse my face with cold water a couple times and sometimes I also use a super mild soap (kirks csstile coconut soap) to wash it off.

    Im having small acne,hyperpigmentation ,im 23 years old i also want have a glowing skin... so 13% or 20% will be enough

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  Рік тому

      If you want glowing skin, you might want to try glycolic peels. TCA peels are really harsh. You can also do salicylic peels to treat the acne. You can use that to spot treat or you can use it on your whole face. It can really, really help. The salicylic products from the store are only 2-3% but you can get 10-15% peels that work better. :) If you are going to do TCA, then the lowest one would be best. Whatever you do, be super careful. TCA peels can be dangerous. Salicylic peels are quite strong too and they are better for acne. :) Also, be careful since you are dealing with hyperpigementation - you might want to use some serums to help prevent more hyperpigmentation (like Alpha Arbutin from the Ordinary).

    how soon can you do TCA after microneedling?

    • @LifeDIY
      @LifeDIY  4 роки тому

      Everyone is different, but for me I would probably wait 10-12 days. The skin is going through a process of changes after needling and I like to let it play out for the most part before doing a TCA peel. But, I think some people might feel ok doing it after a week.

    • @jennymeade8786
      @jennymeade8786 4 роки тому

      @@LifeDIY Yeah, you might want to be careful needling and having emotions in check, and only do it when you are happy already. This last time I overdid it and have a deep scar now and more lines. I normally never do that with dermaroller. However, I think I was stressed a little or something and shouldn't have even attempted with any stress at all. Funny thing is my stress went down before I did the procedure and I thought it was good enough, but I think I had lingering anxiety, and I got distracted by the negative and messed up and it is my fault and I take the blame. I think its good to have notes on the mirror and follow step by step plan everytime to avoid mistakes or overdoing it. I had bad things happen just from bad reactions to products in the past, however this time It was my fault I think. Even though the scar looks deep, I am still treating it and hoping for the best. Best wishes, and thanks.

      @@LifeDIY Sad part is, that I put medical tape on the sides of my mouths, because sometimes I get insecure and still see sagging from retina (cause retina caused dramatic sagging) and the tape ended up causing wrinkles and I only had the tape on for about 15 mintues to 30 because I had bad feeling and took off after that. I had no fine lines around my mouth at all and now I have them on the sides and drooping down a little cause of the tape I used. :( THen I did the dermaroller to try to remove wrinkles, but I was so pissed off about the wrinkles that I ended up focused on that area wayyy too much! LOL oh dear I wish I never ever touched retina. And I realize that wanting perfectionism causes me to get stressed and make mistakes. So...I am trying not to be perfectionist. We all have something we dont like on our faces. I just have to remember that I guess. I am not complaining really, just expressing my concerns about what can happen when we are too stressed. Now I have a big ole scar that is in jowl area in a way that I hope noone notices. I just wish I made the scar in another area atleast. Hopefully TCA helps, if not owe well I am tying my hands in back of me for a while.

    Did 35% but I bet it was actually 50% last week. I wish there was a test method. Anyway, day 11 and still not completely healed. One application and instant frosting.
    The next morning the swelling was so bad I didn't recognize myself in the mirror. Eyes were slits.
    Luckily no permanent damage but wowza. Without a powerful fan the pain would have been unbearable. One tip is to wear gloves to bed/sleep because people tend to scratch and pick in their sleep.
