Fuji colors are always more pleasing to me although nikon color science is more true to life. Fuji just brings a lot of life to skin tones, but it can be a tiny bit too much magenta sometimes.
Thanks for sharing your insights. I agree, a bit magenta when it is AWB, it can be adjusted in post easily to add a bit more warm to the skin, and the magenta will go away.

Nikon handles blacks really well and hopefully the autofocus capabilities that the Z9 came out with trickles down to the next gen of Nikon mirrorless. @@professionalpotato4764 I do wish Sony comes out with a DSLR style APS-C. Something that caters to hobbyist photographers where handling isn't like their current rangefinder style yet not as expensive as going full frame. I've used my brother's Fuji cams before and I really like them. The 3rd party lens support was holding me back and no full frame option down the road. It's straight to medium format. Their film simulations though are awesome. Canon might kill off the M-mount so it's either E or Z mount to future proof things. Nikon was just late to the mirrorless party. From my experience, Sony has similar green/yellow tint when set to AWB, so I don't think you lose anything if that's the look you want. As far as black rendering I think that has more to do with lens. Nikon 85 1.8 has much better contrast than Fuji 56mm 1.2 and that why some colors tend to pop more.

Very interesting comparison. As a longtime Nikon user, I can spot the autocontrast Nikon uses immediately in most of these images. They have a certain "pop" which makes the images stand out but isn't always the best for portraits. I like the lower contrast of the Fuji here. That Nikon lens is excellent, but the Fuji competes very well. Especially for an APS-C camera.
It's easy to guess since both cameras are consistent in color rendition. I currently have the XT1, XT2, XH1, XE1 just because of the jpgs are good enough without much adjustment in Lightroom.

Thanks for sharing your results :) it’a interesting. To me, the Nikon lens has more contrast and sharpness straight out of the camera. Different perspectives.
Hey Xing! Another question! Im not sure if its my eyes or not but do you usually take your photos from a lower angle looking up most times or are these typically eye level with the subject?
Cant tell which camera is which because they both look great. I can see there is a color difference, and everybody is talking about it, but lightroom can tweak the temp, tint, and HSL. I just tested and made an adjustment preset to make the color look like each other. I like Nikon images here.
@@caliallstaring People will hate me for asking this. would you make a video with these exact photos, but with one original photo vs other camera photo tweaked color to match the original photo. I will work on the adjustment and share the LR Develop Settings with you.
It's hard not to look at the pretty model 😬 but before half way through, I start to guess which is nikon or fuji correctly. Nikon gives you wider view maybe because of the lens you're using. About the color.. I always say it's all about one's preference.
I guessed all of them correct based on skin tone :) Fujifilm's are slightly warmer/reddish than Nikon's, and it's also a case with XT-4 comparison with any Full-Frame like A7C.
With the Fuji film simulation applied to SOOC, this is an apples to oranges comparison. Nikon also has some colour scenes and probably also one that is closer to the Fuji (if you prefer saturated / yellowish/reddish hues)
An unfair comparison because of how you setup the Nikon, by default Nikon always favors Magenta not green or yellow, so you set something on the Nikon that made its color not pleasing. Here in American we favor red/pinkish skin colors, so of course people are going to praise the Fuji, but those are not true Nikon colors, those are actually Canon color science, you made the Nikon look like a Canon.
I guessed 100%! It's not difficult, fuji is purple, nikon is green. Canon seems to me to be turning yellow. I thought for a long time and bought a Sony A7 c. I downloaded raw files from it, the colors seemed very good to me. But the old Sony ones have bad colors, they are green.
maybe because I shot Nikon before and shoot fuji nowadays, but I needed less than a second to guess then. Missed two though. I see more pleasing colors in fuji most of the times. Nikon got it right in a few lighting conditions. A lot of times, what gave the right one was the tonality range, contrast and sharpness which were greater on the Nikon.
I thought at first I would prefer the Nikon but I was totally wrong, the Nikon is has more contrast though. Also Fuji should update the 56 since it's a really loud and slow focusing lens.
I was much preferring the warm Fuji colors for the first few photos, but then the following photos looked more & more magenta? How did that happen? 🤔 Either way both looked good. 🙂
Thank you:) I think because of different environments and background color, the sensor decides to choose different colors. Usually if not in a comparison, I will set it warmer to +3 and -3 for AWB. Thanks for watching 😊🙏
Fuji colors are beautiful and more honest than Nikon. Never knew this as a comparison to Nikon, much thanks to you! You made my mind now its Canon-Fuji all the way.
I think with some editing, the colors can be similar. However, the rendering and the transition of bokeh from two distinct lenses, which is harder to make it to look the same.
Much preferred the Nikon shots in the autumn shade where Fuji got too Magenta. Otherwise preferred Fuji. Not sure if one could tweak WB and Image Profile to get the Nikon closer to the Fuji
xt4 price right now is 1000-1200 used not including tax. Z5 like new minus on KEH overstock is getting an extra 20% off 711 after tax. just sold the xs10 for the same price I paid 6 months ago, will try the Z5.
I got it all right. Nikon has a 3D pop to it's image, Fuji looks flat. Specially @12:12. You can adjust the color balance but you can't replicate the 3D pop.
@@caliallstaring I don't comment much, but I enjoy your videos & the back ground music. Fuji needs to update the 56mm f 1.2 , but sometimes you prefer a flat softer image for portraits. Nikkor 105mm F 1.4 E ED is the best portrait lens out there. You should do a video about it & some lens comparisons.
@@ktcool4660 thank you so much for the support 😊🙏 yes, Fujifilm really needs to update this old lens. I will mark it down for that lens in case I have chance to test that lens.
Hi! I need advice from you. I found in marketplace second hand fujifilm gfx 50r+ gf 50mm f3.5 lm lens (1800$) and fujifilm x t-4 + XC 35MM f2.0 Lens (1473$) how you think which must i buy?
What is interesting is that despite the focal lengths relatively being pretty much same, the Nikon seems to create more compression. I assume this is due to the full frame sensor (but not technical enough to understand why lol). Great vid as always 👍🏻
I think it's just slight variations in framing. In some shots the Fuji looks like the background is more compressed (ex @1:32 @9:34) but really the camera angle or position had changed in between shots somehow. The size of the subject within the frame isn't the same in all of them too. The sensor itself shouldn't have a direct effect on compression. It should only be distances between camera->subject->background.
Surely most Fuji users are hooked in by the analogue control set up, especially the aperture. I’ve just been in Atacama and needed to adjust quite a lot for different shots. IMHO it’s so much easier with the dials than the menus or even with programmed buttons/dials. For the Fujifans it’s about experience rather. That said, love Nikon (Zf301 and FG in the film locker, used to have a D7100) and so tempted to try a Z5. Too much time choosing, not enough shooting. Get out more - all modern cameras are great.
I got this one right 100% of the time. Nikon has a slight green/yellowish tint, it seems like AWB is getting it wrong consistently. Did you try to modify AWB bias on Nikon to get it more equal, by going more towards magenta/blue? Fuji definitely looks better color/WB-wise in most scenarios, so it can be used as a reference. Also, it looks like Nikon is a better lens than Fuji. It's sharper, more contrasty, smoother bokeh, and less aberrations (especially LoCa). On paper, Nikon should have a better AF motor and thus more consistent AF, but both look properly focused in these examples.
nikon had way more detail and sharpness, better dynamic range? her hands and forearms looked weird on the fuji. but id really love to see the difference on a wet night with some colourful lights and plenty of reflections, i get the impression fuji colours would just be popping off in that scenario... i think maybe autofocus in the fuji was causing issues on this test
From my photographer eyes, The first 2 minutes, you can defines on which is the photo from every camera. Fuji produced warmer colour tones while Nikon always has the cool like tones.
i got the right always mostly because i knew what to look for , i want to get the nikon shots in camera and fuji is what i will like it to look on instagram
XT4 user here. Fuji applies film simulation while Nikon doesn't. I am impressed by Nikon colors. Years ago I abandoned Nikon 1 system and bought Fujifilm X20 because of the dull colors from the one inch sensor.
Nikon applies the "same" editing as Fuji. "Film simulation" is just a marketing word for jpeg profiles. Fuji uses Provia profile and Nikon uses the Standard picture profile in these examples.
Nikon is in for the win! The Z5 is now selling for $998 USD on sale. Amazing camera at a low cost. Nikon color is great - rich, even in standard. Which ever color choice you pick, the rendering is great with Nikon. Nikon doesn't seem to be picky about editors, so even free editors render well.
You can add a bit of magenta and get Nikon closer. Nikon was cooler. Fuji was more magenta and warmer. As soon as I saw the first outcome, the rest were easy to tell apart.
Odd skin tones with the Nikon Z5/85mm f1.8 S combo. Might be "true to life" but simply not pleasing to my eyes. I guessed the Z5 correctly 90% of the time due to the distinct cooler hues (greenish/bluish). Fuji/56mm f1.2 more magenta/warm skin tones look much more pleasing to me. As with most things color, I'm sure tastes vary but the Nikon SOOC tones just don't work for me. Anyway, very nice comparison, well done.
Thank you for this very interesting video. I would like to buy a Fujifilm X-T5. Would you be kind enough to do the same of comparison with the Fujifim X-T5.🙏
The sharper image = the bigger sensor. If you look at colour it can be tricky but if you look at which image is sharper than you can guess quite easily.
great video for me because the price in my country between Z5 with 24-50 kit lense and XT4 with 16-80 F4 is only 300$.. i’m the portrait shooter most if the time
Awesome video, it reminds me how great my Fuji X-T3 is along with their Fuji primes. I was ready to add to my camera bag a Nikon Z5 now that will be on sale for 999 dlls, but it would be totally redundant, a waste of money. It was easy to tell the Fuji’s more pink skin vs the more warm and golden Nikon’s. Both great systems!
I am a Nikon/Fuji user for a long time, now Z6 and X-T2. Both systems are great. I love lower contrast and less sharpness on Fuji primes 35/1.4 and 56/1.2 for portraits, rendering is beautiful and I also like cooler WB on Fuji cameras. Nikkor Z 1.8 S primes (I have 35,50,85/1.8) are better optically in technical termes and still have beautiful rendering, AF is much faster for moving objects (new Fuji primes look to be very fast too), but higher contrast is not always preffered. For portraits, I cant go wrong with either of them. The biggest difference between the systems are zoom lenses for traveling, 14-30/4, 24-70/4, 24-200 are so much better than anything in Fuji ecostystem.
easily guessed every single one correctly. Fuji has better color, nikon has better bokeh. easy. but neither are really drastically that different either. You could easily tweak the Nikon to look like the Fuji and vice versa except for the bokeh, but even that isn't drastically different
@@caliallstaring if anything this proves there are differences but also should show you can get great results with any decent model from major camera brands. :-) so use what you have and work on your craft...

Both cameras do well. But the Fuji is my choice. The skin tones are just more true to life. And I’m a Fuji XT3 and GFX 50R shooter. But I still enjoy Nikon gear.
thanks for sharing your insights :)
Are you shooting weddings with that combo?
thank you, this was super helpful! I think I am gonna go for the Z5 after this comparison.
No problem 😊👌🏼
It seems the Nikon Z5 seems to have less contrast to my eyes. I was able to pick out all but one, where she was sitting in a bench.
Thanks for sharing your results :) it’a interesting. To me, the Nikon lens has more contrast and sharpness straight out of the camera. Different perspectives.
@@caliallstaring interesting! I wonder if the television or screen people are watching the video on effects this… 🤔
@@HaiTomVlog It might be, different screen has different contrast settings.
Here I liked the fuji more, even with the red magenta strength, but usually I prefer my G7xii colours to my fujifilm cameras.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊🙏
I knew them all. Nikon color science is one of it kind. If it's about other aspects I coudn't quess. Color was deciding aspect
Thanks for sharing your insights 😊🙏
Fuji is warm, and Nikon has greenish tint. Is it something to do with WB or is it just color science of Nikon?
These are the default AWB from Nikon.
I do not know why Fuji photos always make me feel more beautiful.
😊👌🏼✨
Hey Xing! Another question! Im not sure if its my eyes or not but do you usually take your photos from a lower angle looking up most times or are these typically eye level with the subject?
Slightly lower angles for those bokeh shots because the tree gaps in the background are higher.
Cant tell which camera is which because they both look great. I can see there is a color difference, and everybody is talking about it, but lightroom can tweak the temp, tint, and HSL. I just tested and made an adjustment preset to make the color look like each other. I like Nikon images here.
Thanks for sharing your insights 😊🙏✨
@@caliallstaring People will hate me for asking this. would you make a video with these exact photos, but with one original photo vs other camera photo tweaked color to match the original photo. I will work on the adjustment and share the LR Develop Settings with you.
It's hard not to look at the pretty model 😬 but before half way through, I start to guess which is nikon or fuji correctly. Nikon gives you wider view maybe because of the lens you're using. About the color.. I always say it's all about one's preference.
Thank you so much 😊
I guessed all of them correct based on skin tone :) Fujifilm's are slightly warmer/reddish than Nikon's, and it's also a case with XT-4 comparison with any Full-Frame like A7C.
Thanks for watching 😊🙏
With the Fuji film simulation applied to SOOC, this is an apples to oranges comparison. Nikon also has some colour scenes and probably also one that is closer to the Fuji (if you prefer saturated / yellowish/reddish hues)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
An unfair comparison because of how you setup the Nikon, by default Nikon always favors Magenta not green or yellow, so you set something on the Nikon that made its color not pleasing. Here in American we favor red/pinkish skin colors, so of course people are going to praise the Fuji, but those are not true Nikon colors, those are actually Canon color science, you made the Nikon look like a Canon.
What picture style is used on Nikon cameras?
Hi, it was standard profile style in Nikon.
Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts 😊🙏
every single shot of z5 is recognizable because of the full frame perspective.
Thanks for sharing your observations 😊🙏
@@caliallstaring welcome. 😊
maybe because I shot Nikon before and shoot fuji nowadays, but I needed less than a second to guess then. Missed two though.
I see more pleasing colors in fuji most of the times. Nikon got it right in a few lighting conditions.
A lot of times, what gave the right one was the tonality range, contrast and sharpness which were greater on the Nikon.
Thanks for sharing your insights and experience 😊🙏
I thought at first I would prefer the Nikon but I was totally wrong, the Nikon is has more contrast though. Also Fuji should update the 56 since it's a really loud and slow focusing lens.
Yes :) totally agree that Fujifilm should upgrade the 56. Nikon because of the new lens technology, it has more contrast out of the camera.
Fujirumors has heard that the 56mm will get a mark 2 version next year! :) Here's hoping it will get faster AF and WR! :)
@@DanielFrantzen oh really? that would be awesome! let me search that article.

I like both Nikon and Fujifilm color, beautiful photos, beautiful model, always enjoy your sooc photos, excellent 👍😊
Thank you so much for the support 😊🙏🙏
I was much preferring the warm Fuji colors for the first few photos, but then the following photos looked more & more magenta? How did that happen? 🤔 Either way both looked good. 🙂
Thank you:) I think because of different environments and background color, the sensor decides to choose different colors. Usually if not in a comparison, I will set it warmer to +3 and -3 for AWB. Thanks for watching 😊🙏
@@caliallstaring what wb for fuji do you recommend for asian skin tones?
Fuji colors are beautiful and more honest than Nikon. Never knew this as a comparison to Nikon, much thanks to you! You made my mind now its Canon-Fuji all the way.
😊🙌
Whats the WB in this fuji? Thanks
AWB (+1, -1)
can they look close together when edited? or they have too much distinct characteristics
I think with some editing, the colors can be similar. However, the rendering and the transition of bokeh from two distinct lenses, which is harder to make it to look the same.
it's hard to guess them wrong...fuji colors are 🔥🔥🔥...but both are awesome...
Thank you 😊
great work!
Thank you 😊
Much preferred the Nikon shots in the autumn shade where Fuji got too Magenta.
Otherwise preferred Fuji. Not sure if one could tweak WB and Image Profile to get the Nikon closer to the Fuji

I got it all right. Nikon has a 3D pop to it's image, Fuji looks flat. Specially @12:12. You can adjust the color balance but you can't replicate the 3D pop.
Thanks for watching 😊🙏 Nikon’s lens is much newer technology, and Fujifilm’s 56mm is from 2014 February 😊 that’s why the sooc is more flat in Fuji.

What is interesting is that despite the focal lengths relatively being pretty much same, the Nikon seems to create more compression. I assume this is due to the full frame sensor (but not technical enough to understand why lol). Great vid as always 👍🏻
Thanks 😊 yeah, even though both similar focal length on full frame equivalent, the full frame sensor will have more depth
@@buddyWalrus thanks for the explanation, yes, some of the shots I might be half foot difference in distance after I switched the camera.
@@caliallstaring thank you for confirming Xing. Enjoyed the comparison as always.
Thanks for sharing your insight 😊🙏
Fujifilm is more pink/purple!!! Nikon is good Tint low Yellow. Nice comparison
Thanks 😊🙏
Hi, yes, after this shoot, I noticed that and I was trying to fix in the following video: ua-cam.com/video/DmXCeVBJXzE/v-deo.html
Fuji XT4 forever, super correct white balance.

nikon had way more detail and sharpness, better dynamic range?
her hands and forearms looked weird on the fuji.
but id really love to see the difference on a wet night with some colourful lights and plenty of reflections, i get the impression fuji colours would just be popping off in that scenario...
i think maybe autofocus in the fuji was causing issues on this test
Thanks for sharing your insights 😊🙏
I prefer the color of Fuji but images from Nikon has 3D pop, probably because the 85 1.8S is sharper than the 56 1.2R

Question: Are Fujifilm top cameras (XT-5, XH-2) comparable in quality and professionality to Full Frame top camera? Like Sony A7IV etc…?
Hi, image quality is very good, and focusing performance will be about 15 to 20 percent (eye tracking) behind Sony A7iv.

easy to pic the Fuji images always superior color , but how does auto focus rate with Nikon. I hate my fuji XT-3 autofocus..
I use AF-S single point all the time. It is more reliable than eye AF, eye AF still needs improvement.
XT4 user here. Fuji applies film simulation while Nikon doesn't. I am impressed by Nikon colors. Years ago I abandoned Nikon 1 system and bought Fujifilm X20 because of the dull colors from the one inch sensor.
Thanks for sharing your experience 😊🙏
Nikon applies the "same" editing as Fuji. "Film simulation" is just a marketing word for jpeg profiles.
Fuji uses Provia profile and Nikon uses the Standard picture profile in these examples.
Only difference appears to be the white balance is warmer on Fuji.

Hi, I don’t have XT5 currently. I will mark it down later.
The sharper image = the bigger sensor. If you look at colour it can be tricky but if you look at which image is sharper than you can guess quite easily.

Sharpness has nothing to do with sensor size. The new Nikon lens is superior which does make the difference.
Yeah, better colors on Fuji!

Skin tone is better with the Fuji more natural... too white on the Z5

Thanks so much for sharing your insights 😊🙏
