I prefer the slightly warmer colours of the Nikon. But that's based on preferance. Anyway, can adjusted easily in post. No right or wrong. But man, the Nikon 85mm bokeh is so much smoother than the Canon's.
Wow! That Nikon 85mm looks much smother on the out of focus areas. Regarding the colors,on some photos the Nikon looked “better” and on others the Canon looked “better”. Thanks for sharing.
That Z5 + 85 f1.8s keeps up no problem and even pulls ahead in some images, pretty nice for a setup that costs half the price of the R6 setup. And it is using a sensor from the D750.
Got all correct. I’ve never shot Nikon before but from the Fuji comparison I noticed that Nikon renders images with a yellow tint so I just looked for that. Although there were two almost indistinguishable photos so I had to rely on bokeh to know which was which.
Got all correct. You can see the difference in color science comparing nikon vs canon. I always preferred nikons over canon. Also the lens characteristics of compression, bokeh, and distorion was a give away. Both great, but I'd say nikons setup had a more interesting and artistic quality to it for story telling. Good show, this was fun. Now I can act snobbish for a week 😆
I missed 3, but I prefer Nikon's image quality over any other's anyway so it was not so difficult for me :) Both cameras are amazing, it all comes down to personal preference / budget.
Got them all right. Nikon renders warmer, smoother bokeh and has more contrast. Having shot the z6ii and r6 on a few occasions, I say those comparisons are about right. Canon always goes colder in raws, and yes you can warm them up but it never achieves the level of punchiness the nikon do by default (using Capture 1). I know it's very very subjective so don't take my word for gold. Having experienced both systems extensively, i say the Canon wins the body ergos, the Nikons win the lens and image quality (again, subjectively speaking, otherwise both are technically PERFECT).
Is it just me or is the Canon 85 a slightly wider field of view? As a Canon owner I did like the warmer Nikon colours and that Z85 is a nicer lens, but I didn't like what it did to her skin tones.... a weird yellow/green hue
Thanks for sharing your observations 😊🙏 they should have the same field of view. Since these are all sooc. Sometimes when I switch the camera, I might be couple inches different in terms of frames.
Nikon generally seems to have a green tint, while Canon leans more magenta. I doubt it's the lens, but more of how each camera processes the colour. It's like how Blackmagic cameras are heavy on magenta to look warm, but Arri cameras lean more green for a natural look. Both look great depending on scene and lighting I guess.
Great video! I guessed 95%. Bokeh looks much better on Nikon. But it's probably because of the different aperture. Please try to shoot this at the same aperture.
Surprisingly, I got them all right. 😁 I'm a Nikon and Fujifilm shooter, but I have friends that shoot Canon, and I like to try them out when we get together. I also recently bought the Z5, to pair with my beloved D750.
The colors and skin tones are fantastic on both cameras. but the Nikon has superior 3D micro contrast. which is probably due to the lens being used and renders a beautiful three-dimensional feel to it. It is a fairly subtle, but it makes a good impact. Truth be told, you can never go wrong with Canon and Nikon.
Both of them in AWB mode. The iPhone footage in between is pretty close to real life. You can take a look again. I think Canon is a bit closer and more neutral. Both of them can be adjusted in the post and it depends which base color you want to start with 😊

Yep goes to show you don't need the most expensive or top tier to produce top notch professional images. And thanks for doing this. I have a D500 and F mount lenses but was drawn to the Z line wanting Fx and Mirrorless. So when the Z5 was on sale for $999 earlier this year and FTZ adapter for $99 had to pull the trigger. And 2 weeks later the 24-200 variable f-stop zoom for on sale for $700. Just a couple of weeks ago picked up the Z 50mm f1.8 on the $100 of Nikon Z lenses current ongoing sale. I am quite happy with the performance for general walkabout photography. When not needing the heavier D500 for sports or wildlife kinds of shooting. Together they make for a quite capable kit. And really can't justify in added valued use of camera's like the R5 or R6 or the Z6 or Z7 for me personally. As they don't give me 2x or 3x the capabilities in price difference.
