I wasn't keen on the extra burnt out highlights and very magenta hands of the model with the Fuji. The softer Fuji images too, keeping in mind the "cheapest" RF lens available was used on the Canon.
Thank You for testing it for us. I was always Fuji geek. But after many comparison with Cannon R6 and Cannon lenses I am starting to fall in love with C rendering and dynamic range. The differences were huge in some photos. The way it pop up the subject, the sun glow and the skin is so soft with eyes sharp as razor. If we go further this is max depth of field that fuji can offer with their lenses on that focal length. Cannon still has 50 1.4 which is cheaper than Fuji 33 1.4 and 50 1.2 which blows my mind. Fuji with its popularity becoming to expansive as body+lens comparing to full frame equivalents. I think for professional work Im going to switch for C, but there will be always one Fuji in my pocket for travel and street photography.
Unless you compared them side by side (and splitting hairs) I wouldn't be able to tell one from the other. All modern cameras are amazing 👍🏼👋🏼 great video!!!!!
I definitely prefer the rendering on the Canon, but its jpegs have too much magenta. I'd like to see a video comparison of edited raws side by side if possible. Great work Xing! :)
Great video! Are you shooting in auto WB? Looks like the R6 rendering in AWB is warmer, so the pictures looks more attractive, but the skin of the Fuji looks very good.
I am not a pro and I don't have to zoom-in, but I only miss 1 comparison. For me, it takes about 5~8 seconds to decide which is which, and I am not just guessing, I can really see the difference. The model in 50mm just pops-up more than in the 33mm. The 50mm gives a more 3D looking for the model. Look carefully at the edge of the model and the background, and you will see that there is some kind of blurness at that edge in 33mm shots, especially when facing stronger light. While in 50mm shots, there is no such blurness, the model just pops-up entirely from the background. But the difference is really small. If there is only 1 photo and I have nothing to compare with, then it will be just a pure guess. Thanks for the video man. Now I can go for Canon 50mm without any worry. It's much lighter, cheaper, and also, to me it performers better. Yes, maybe the bokhe is a little more pleasant on the 33mm, but you have to zoom-in to see it, which is not the way 99% of the people gonna look at a photo. The overall 3D feel of the subject is more important to me.
I think I only got the initial one wrong. Once I knew what to look for, it was easier. Softer background and the jacket was warmer tone with the Canon. If you didn't have side by side comparison, either would still work great. But, since we know the lens quality differences.. I'd probably opt to go with the Canon. I think I like the way the Canon renders more. And, I've only shot mostLy Fuji and never Canon.
Nice video bro. 33mm f1.4 looks amazing! What are your thoughts on the 33mm f1.4 compared to the 56mm f1.2? Do you think it is better quality? Thanks bro
Missed 2 early when I tried to guess by perceived dynamic range, but 100% right after when I started using jacket color (warmer on Canon). All your pics are great tho.
Just curious, why did you use a cheap $199 lens on the Canon and a $799 on the Fuji? Isn't that like putting Pep Boys tires on a Porche? Is there any way you can provide the jpeg or RAW files to mess around with the color? :-)
@@caliallstaring I know right, but again the Fuji is a high quality $800 lens, why not compare it with a high quality Canon lens? And do you happen to be able to provide original files for us to play around with colors? Thank you.
Interesting. The 1.8 did better than I thought. I owned it about 10 years ago. It’s way better on the newer canon bodies than it was on the old 20D camera back then! Great lens for the price. I’m on Fuji these days tho. I still prefer fujis old 35m 1.4.
While I was able to guess all of them correctly, the canon handled the highlights slighter better, I’m surprised at how similar they look. I definitely want this lens now!
@@caliallstaring not sure if you have experience with the xt2, but would this 33 focus better than the 35 f2? I’m leaning towards upgraded the lens rather than the camera, but if I have to then I’ll get the xt5.
@@BUCKSHOTSTV Hi, yeah, for XT2, I use the AF-S for single point auto focus, which is more reliable. Yeah, if you want to have the latest focusing firmware processing logic, X-T5 or XH2 can be great combo with the 33mm F1.4.
100% for this one, but it was more difficult, especially for full body portraits where difference in DoF was not immediately obvious. I think if you have used Provia or Astia on Fuji, it would be even more hard to differentiate. In addition to differences that you've mentioned, I also noticed difference in dynamic range on many of photos, Canon is much better there. Also, I was surprised that Canon is slightly sharper, because this one is the cheapest Canon lens vs the best that Fuji can offer sharpness wise. How would you compare these two combos AF wise?
Awesome 😎 thanks for sharing your detailed analysis :) for AF, canon focusing system still better. Fuji eye AF box is still jumping around the face are. Firmware updates are needed for better improvement of the tracking box.
Beautiful shots as always, great work. But I can't help it: it's magenta vs. more magenta between these 2 brands. If one adds iphone 13 pro, then one will have the competition of the century for the KING OF MAGENTA skin tones. LOL.

@@caliallstaring isn’t it almost about the same price to buy a full frame considering the lens prices of Fuji ? Also full frame 1.8 RF lenses are almost same weight or may be a bit lighter than Fuji 1.4s.
I caught 3 wrong but even that I considered luck. I could only differentiate it from the looks of the bokeh balls. Not sure which looks better. I like both, tangerine and orange.
Easy to pick the Canon, it handles the highlights much better than the Fuji. Also, the model's hands are way too magenta on many of the Fuji shots. This shoot definitely needed lighting. Blown-out highlights and solid blocks of black with little or no detail in the dark clothing. Still a very nice shoot though.
So here is an interesting fact if you use a 35 mm on a crop sensor and a 50 mm on a full frame they have the same image and 1.8 and 1.4 on the crop are also the same pretty much however what’s not the same is that the full frame image will look more three dimensional while a crop Will look more flat same goes with full frame compared to the GFX medium format or real medium format the bigger the sensor the more 3-D it looks!
@@amd64x it’s not larger! 35 mm in crop is 50mm field of view. It’s the larger sensor happens with film as well. Aspect ratio plus larger pixels spread on a higher sensor.
@@sols9449 no, you dont get the 3d and compression with much larger format like pentax 67 using 105 2.4 it’s equivalent to 50 1.2 in 35 format but totally different field of view
Superb as always, Xing. It was a hard guess but I managed a few. As for the model, she's beyond gorgeous.
