Boy oh boy, did I buy the wrong vehicle. I’ve never seen such a hard and intricate detailed chore to change a battery. I can imagine a $500.00 - $600.00 fee at the dealer to change it. I don’t know if I trust just any battery shop or Walmart.
Good thing I watched the video. I have been mechanic for 50 years and it was more work than battery changes of years past. Got the job done. Would have in trouble without the video. Many thanks.
Just did this without removing anything except the plastic on the battery encasement closest to the grille and removing battery at an angle and installing new battery at same angle… 2019 MKC
I changed the battery in my 2017 MKC last weekend. I can offer some suggestions to make this job easier the next time. You do have to remove the top of the air box and the filter for battery removal. However, I didn’t have to remove the bottom of the air box. Just lift up and unclip the front of the battery box.
Then pull it down enough to be able to lift the battery out at an angle. It is fairly heavy and the carrying handles do get in the way. Another suggestion, remove the battery clamps as one assembly. No need to remove the cables from the clamps.
Great video and explanation of removal and replacement, however Ford/Lincoln designers and engineers need to be more hands on. This location for a frequent need to replace item is not well thought out. Same goes for replacement of headlight lenses.
Anothe tip to add. I pulled the battery forward and then removed the negative cable. Provided more room for the socket. Installed the negative cable before sliding it all the way back. I prefer my old 69 chevy for this job.
Watched your video. New battery went in fine. However, tightening the positive, the wrench accidentally touched the metal battery hold down slightly sparking. Now the car will not start. I’ve checked two fuses and they were fine. What’s the next step?
NEVER Have any metal jewelry (metal watches, rings on fingers etc) on your arms hands or fingers, The chance is rare that yu would make contact enough to get burned but you will only do it once!
I have both traction control lights that won't go off. Amazon sells a temporary battery power supply kit that plugs into the obdll port, wish that was in this video
My experience with mine two or three times the battery has been dead is that it resets itself after a while but when you first start it many things are weird such as the A/C and radio. A/C blows hot air for a while and Sirius XM doesn’t work for a while until it resets itself after a while.

i got the battery out without removing the air filter and hoses, but yes whoever designed this bullshit needs a slap in the face
As another comment said- no need for all this, just unhook the battery box, rotate the battery up, and slide it out at an angle.

This video was supper helpful! Would not have been able to change my battery without it!

Thanks this comment saved me a lot of messing around- just replaced the battery in my wife’s MKC in minutes.
Same here; have done it twice with some bloodied knuckles. Angling the battery in and out is a real biatch. 🤣
Thank you so much needed the info on getting the battery out in the dark and heat and mosquitos...
Thank you for this video. Good job. Appreciated warnings on clips and tight wires!
Got it done right.
Thanks

That's awesome advice! Thank you very much
I'm so happy I read your comment. It saved me a lot of time!!! Thanks a lot. Your next drink is on me.
According to the rocket engineers who designed this vehicle you're supposed to first remove the engine and transmission to access the battery.

And the outdoor air temperature sensor!
Absolutely makes it so you will take to the shop

Where did you get the battery terminal sensor? Can’t find it

Great video/ thanks for the help.
I think they make this hard on purpose!
So that you have to bring it back to the dealership for $489.35 (labor + battery).
NEVER Have any metal jewelry (metal watches, rings on fingers etc) on your arms hands or fingers, The chance is rare that yu would make contact enough to get burned but you will only do it once!
That's good to know!
How do you remove the cable the clicks on the left side of the battery so you don't break it like he said happened in this video
There is a nut and a female plastic plug in. Feel around for the release and gently slide it off.
How about resetting the computer?
I rewatched it myself looking for that info. Now my MKC won't start.

I just swapped the battery and didn’t have to reset anything

Unbelievable. They made it very difficult so that you have to bring it back to the dealership.
I’ve done it twice on mine without taking the air box off but I came out with bloodied knuckles after angling the batteries out and in.
I’ve done it twice without taking the air box out. Was not easy but I finagled the old battery out and the new battery in with some busted knuckles.
Wouldn’t start. Had to refund the customer and send them to the dealer. Triple checked all connections.
Needed a battery program/relearn
Worthless video, does the actual removal OFF CAMERA, because it doesn't work like that !
Take this down !
