  • Looking at replacing the battery in your 2016 Lincoln MKC looks intimidating with as buried as the battery is in the engine compartment. Don't lose heart, it's not as hard as it looks! Take a look at the video and you'll soon see that it's not difficult once you understand how to get to the battery!

Perfect, exactly what I needed. Your quote "battery decided to die overnight" cracked me 'cause that's exactly what mine did, no warning.

Thanks for the video. I just pulled a battery from a 2015 MKC. I found out that you don’t actually have to remove the air filter.
You can just disconnect the side of the battery box and bend it about half an inch at the top, then pull the battery out at an angle. It is difficult to pull it out , I would recommend some twine or something similar so you can pull it right out when you have it at the correct angle.

Hi there, appreciate the TY :) Not having to remove the air cleaner would be a big plus. Next time around I'll have to remember that, thanks!

Video helped immensely, thank you. That air box was a b*ll buster!. Also positive terminal has some silly tightener that was broken when I went to unscrew it. I had to pinch it manually to tighten it. Have to look to see if I can replace it.

Can you tell me what that small connector that plugged into the negative battery terminal is for? I discovered mine unplugged, but I'm not experiencing anything not working. It's the one you zoomed in on towards the end, after battery was connected.

I really have no idea, sorry. I would suggest going to a Ford/Lincoln dealer and asking their service folks, surely they would know?!

I'm wondering if it is a lead to the fuses in the back of the car. There's a connection back there that goes to the battery for things like trailer lights and accessory power.

Very informative video. I’m going to replace the battery in my 2017 . Did you do the Battery Management System reset procedure or just let the vehicle “rest” for 8 hours to reset the system? BTW, it looks you really take care of your vehicle. Engine bay is really clean. Thanks for the video.

      Hi,
Thanks for the kind words on my video. When I had to change the battery on my wife's car I went to UA-cam and I figured there would be several videos for the procedure. Amazingly I couldn't find even one, so, once I figured it out, I made the video. I'm glad it helped you!
As to the Battery Management System Reset, I never knew there was such a thing until I read your message. So there's something to do after you replace the battery? I would appreciate info on that (or is it in the owners manual?)
      Have a good day!

Glad it helped. I put the video together with just explaining what you do and pointing to stuff but at least it's a basic explanation of what you have to do. For me, I searched UA-cam and found nothing which really surprised me. Hence my quickly made video!

    What are the chances? lol

I found FOUR 8 mm retaining screws holding the air cleaner cover on, not just 3. I bought and used a Schumacher memory saver cable. Anybody needing to rent it from me can come get it, since I will not need to use it again until four years from now when the new battery dies. 314-892-2511.
Thank you for making the you tube post. I got motivated and replaced the " professional installation required" battery after Sam's Club, Auto Zone, Reilly's deferred declined and avoided the challenge because of their policy. Thankfully I got my wife to hold a light and finished it, but I am usually slow handed. So this was even slower : three hours. The original equipment Ford motor company battery was a lead acid battery with corrosion on the negative terminal and weak nature. I have installed an Auto Zone Duralast AGM.
