I feel in a lot of her live performances, she starts out a little shakey, as if she's nervous and then as time goes on, she becomes more confident and comfortable with the notes
True. She's best when she's relaxed and not shouting which makes her unstable. Quite psychological in my opinion: she has sole responsibility for all she has achieved and is going to achieve, that's powerful and vulnerable at the same time. I feel that translates in a lot of her one-time performances at shows.
I think she definitely suffers from nerves but her confidence does build as the song progresses.
She has said that performing one song on a tv show is more stressful than doing a whole concert.
Maybe partly to do with the crowd...much different with a roomful of celebrities and other artists versus 1000s of fans who are there specifically to see you.
Absolutely. We have all seen her hands trembling during sooner or later at the oscars
When you see her eyes blinking over and over again in the beginning, it's the overanalys and perfectionist mindset that is controlling her. Literally, a minute later, she is a different singer and can just bring you her real emotion about the song she wrote. You see this a lot during ray of light until the confessions tour. Every promo tour video including American life is similar. I love seeing it! Really makes me more of a fan knowing how dedicated and committed she is.
Absolutely! These more raw, imperfect performances are so interesting to me
She always had trouble with this one live. I think this was actually the best of several live performances of this song. I still love her vocals even though there may be flaws it’s pure Madonna and it’s a beautiful song- also love the live orchestra.
This is such a hard song to sing live
I love this song! I think the first half was nerves and second half was awesome!
from what ive read, shes a bundle of nerves before and during the first part of the song...shes a perfectionist and it shows...
I love watching your reactions because not only do I love your "analysis," but I love that you genuinely seem to enjoy what you're doing. This is why I subscribe.
I agree. Her voice becomes firmer from the middle of the song onwards, as the character develops, the vocals reached the end stronger. On purpose or not, effective.
G'day it's Steven from Down Under again
ALL HAIL THE QUEEN OF POP!
Not side eyeing that note Johnny 😂
Which one??? :)
@@bridgethegapreactions 1:38 I think this song is difficult to pull off live. Probably why it didn’t make it onto the Drowned World set list.
@@taintedlife2618 Yeah she struggles every time she sings it. I don't know why she does a hard "R" when singing it live. Open vowels are easier to sing, especially when you're pushing the limit of your range, which is what she's doing here. If she sang it as "high-ya" instead of "high-yer" it would be easier for her. Her technique has never been great, even after Evita. It got better during ReInvention Tour actually.
She sounded so nervous in the beginning and with a song like that it shows immediately. It had some good parts, but I remember not really liking it at the time. I felt her voice wasn't soft enough, so it got too forceful IMO. She has much better performances, both ballads and dance songs and everything in between. In the rehearsal she sounds more right and relaxed. She has said that she always gets nervous and has said she gets anxiety attacks before going on stage. It rarely shows.
No, its not all about the voice without any orher background staging, it's about the songwriting by her also, and perhaps she could not hear herself on stage with the orchestra being there as well
Unique Song. For me, its better then FROZEN💋
Johnny! If you're dipping your toes into ROL era demos and b-sides, you MUST hear "Be Careful (With My Heart)," you'll die! It's M at her best. I've provided a link because there are a few versions floating around but this is THE take 👌
Ricky Martin later recorded it as a duet but they took M's original demo vocal and transposed it down to suit his key, and unfortunately the magic was lost. The demo though... five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Be Careful (With My Heart) *LINK:*
ua-cam.com/video/KS-e4gHu0Tc/v-deo.htmlsi=X-M8al4ThZeEFh9q
PS. Madonna *absolutely* gets nervous, especially during performances in front of her peers (awards shows, etc); even moreso when the focus is on the vocal, and the song has a lot of long, sustained notes.
I can't believe I never heard the demo of this before! Just searched for it and I have to say demo 1 is a very sceletal version, then demo 2 is great
@@purpledragonfly313 so, the link that I shared, which one is that? I ripped the audio from UA-cam years ago, so I have it in my personal mp3 library on my phone and devices, so I don't know how the different demos are labelled. When I was searching for a video to share with Johnny, I just clicked on the link with the same track length as my mp3, et voila! Anyway, I'm so happy that you've been able to discover it thru me! How amazing is her voice on this?! It really is a gem, and anytime I make myself a chilled out Madonna playlist, it's always on there! Shame about the final product (meaning the Ricky Martin version).
@@lutalice I actually completely missed your link earlier, but it sounds very much like Demo 2 that I mentioned. Only this is even better ❤️ I wish she would dog out some of the rare and great songs we didn’t get before. I liked the duet of this song, but I like this version even better. Her voice is so clear while on the duet she was placed further back. I’vebeen a HUGE fan since True blue, but UA-cam has some fun leaks 🤗 Just wish AI could go away, so the fake songs would disappear.
That's from the MTV Europe Music Awards, not VH1. The rehearsals aref from VH1 though, different hair length, can't you see it?
Ahhh thanks! Is the VH1 performance better / different?
@@bridgethegapreactions it's quite similar LOL
She gets major nerves and harder to sing songs probably add extra pressure.
@@bridgethegapreactions I was wondering why it seemed different to how I remembered. (Ie She sounded much stronger vocally)
@@bridgethegapreactions I actually just rewatched it and yeah I think it's the strongest vocally of the three.
I don't like the ROL era's performances precisely because the voice in the studio recording is calmer, and live has a nervousness and tone above what the original calls for.
Did you already react to the official video? Hope that doesn’t get skipped.😊
I did, quite a while back. There's a Madonna playlist on the channel page on UA-cam
Could you react to Dionne Warwick (All in love is fair)
She is an amazing performer, one of the best. I just saw her live and I was blown away. However, this is not a strong performance for her.
You could hear the NERVES. Sorry but this one was pitchy. Got better towards the end though.
She sounds shaky on it. Grear song!
Can you do George michael concert of hope 1993. Love your reviews
More Lana plss
Do you want to go higherrrrrrrr
For someone whose musical instincts are unfailingly brilliant, that way of singing that word was such a weird choice!
@@bridgethegapreactions I think it's nerves. The few times she's performed it she tenses up right before it comes out
Omg if you just react to "la femme a la peau blue" by vendredi sur mer. Its a french song so beautiful pls give it a chance 🤌🏼🤌🏼❤️❤️❤️
i prefer the Vh1 live version ...
Yes!!!!!🙌🏻❤️
Smells Like Teen Spirit.
I think the auto tune was switched off
Offkey. Dont know Why she ” pushed” so hard. Like she wanted to sing it more like a powerballad style. It didnt work. But, its ok ❤
She's not off key much, but everything else is yikes.
Not her best . I deffo think she suffers nerves in live shows especially the slower songs . She’s a lot more comfortable on tour . If I had to pick I would probably say vh1 fashion awards was abit better
Definitely didn't vote for this one on Patreon haha. Her vocal on both the MTV and VH1 awards were shaky. She's pushing too hard IMO. And yes, she definitely get nerves, but more so from wanting to do well rather than fear of an audience. I think it's why her vocals are better on tour. She has more time to warm up and relax.
Oh, and regarding "Gone Gone Gone," it's one of my favorite demos as well. A lot of fans prefer "Revenge" but I think melodically and lyrically GGG is superior. I just think it needed a more polished beat. But I suspect the subject matter didn't fit with where ROL was going. Fingers crossed we get a remastered or remixed version for the re-issue when it happens! Oh, and I like that the bridge is short - it kind of mirrors the lyric "Our happiness was brief..."
The nervousness does in fact come from being in front of her peers, she’s said this before. It’s different on tour, it’s thousands of her fans as opposed to peers that many, have not respected her.
@@kristianberg4264 Yeah, whatever the cause, I think the adrenaline affects her singing - she tends to overcompensate when singing live by pushing too hard rather singing more softly. And of course the pitch issues, which could be nerves - or lately I'm even thinking hearing loss, as it's gotten worse as she's aged. Anyway, she's still an amazing artist and performer. And she's proven many times that she can sing.
@@FindingMadonna -All of that is most likely true as well, I’ve also noticed since she started really drinking and smoking pot, her singing voice has changed as well. After following her for 40yrs, she is still in many ways the young, take no prisoners girl I enjoyed.
А спела то на троечку с натягом....
I like it better when she is lip syncing
There is another live version she did from vh1 were Ellen degeneres hosted. It is far superior to this one
This is a lower key than the album, right? Also the vibrato is a little too forced, but it’s a credible performance. Not one of her best.
It's the same key, the entire backup track prerecorded album version, only her vocal was live.
She was bloody awful though 😎
