- I just came back from the Totus Tuus Conference in Familyland where Cardinal Arinze spent no less than 4 days, so there is a lot of footage to share. Let's start off with the first part of a Q&A session with Cardinal Arinze. You'll notice his high energy level as he evaluates the questions before answering them. Stay tuned for more episodes very soon. (www.arinzewebcast.com)
I love this man!
I'm an Asian Catholic and I see the concern because sometimes the food is offered to gods...that's the contention there.
Well Catholic prayers override any non-catholic prayer. that is just one more reason to say grace before meals. As the cardinal said, it is silly superstition. As Catholics we are called, by Jesus, to go into all corners of the world and spread the good news - if our saints had feared to eat food prepared by people in non-catholic religions then the church would not have spread because missionaries would have starved to death in their search for foreign food in foreign lands. Additionally if we are afraid to eat food cooked by pagans we better live on farms and raise our own food -- everywhere you go you can be certain that at least one pagan has handled your food before it gets to your plate. We can either be paranoid and not trust in Jesus or we can do like Jesus who was accused of carousing with drunkards and sinners.
Acts 15.29 ...'abstain from things sacrificed to idols'...
Paul also recommended elsewhere, slaves ought to be docile to their masters--clearly this does not belong to the final development of this question, which emerges later with the abolishment of slavery, and his disputes with Peter at another time, suggests stages of development were involved source of inspiration could develop from time to time, or only be recorded fully when linguistic articulate experience reached certain stages to appreciate something of the infinite magnificence of Christ.. and his infinite wisdom. our finite languages perceptual abilities proabaly don't do Him justice a point the Angelic Dr St Thomas Aquinas confided-- just moments before his death, upon seeing a magnificent vision of Christ, that all his writings measured against such a vision were no more than 'straw'.
I totally agree.
Hindus like their food prepared by Brahmans.
It's not what goes into a main that defies him, it's what comes out.
We are humbled for this teaching
Jesus said it is not what goes into a man that makes him unclean, but what comes out of him.Murder,adultary,idolatry,.
@Bratty Young: Re your comment " ... not what goes *in* but what comes *out* ... "
Very, very perspicacious of you! Very mature!
And a fact.
I live in India and I don't think I need expand on that!
As a Catholic I'm sincerely fed up with those Catholics who roll their eyes and shudder when offered iffy foods - the hypocrites! They have no interest in getting proper catechesis but are ready to show how much holier-than-thou they are when it comes to secondary and tertiary issues - like eating food from "others".
I mean, come on! Right up to the time of Jesus the Messiah was strictly a "Jews-only" Saviour. Not for the gentiles. Very strictly not for the gentiles.
But all that changed.
Jesus became the Saviour and Redeemer of the entire world! "All are welcome!"
You remember the brouhaha over "circumcision"? How did that one go?
What do both the above mentioned indicate? They indicate that Jesus wants us to stop being Pharisaical about rituals no matter how Scriptural those rites and rituals are.
Sadly, there are many (too many in fact!) Catholics who suddenly become scriptural when it pleases them to be scriptural.
God love you!

Always pray for food b4 eating
True but not just food but everything that you put into your mouth including water, drinks and medicines. I listened to a well known catholic exorcist priest say how some pharmaceutical companies do something like witchcraft on some medicines in order to get people addicted to them. But once we bless it in the name of Jesus the powers of darkness are overcome
What wisdom
I like Cardinal Arinze.
Revelation 16:19 The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.

It is written that 'if you offer any food up to God..who else can touch it?' No one else can take it from God when it is offered up to Him.
There is a part of the acts of the apostles where St. Peter gets beaten up by a bunch of Jewish people for eating a pig but the argument he gives is that because pigs are a part of gods dominion they are made holy.
This goes back to the Scriptures about the advice of not eating foods that were sacrificial offerings to idols. The remedy is always that you receive asking the Lord to bless that which is before you.
True Christians that have endured in the faith may have even experienced the sign wherein in poisoning they are not affected. This usually occurs with Christians who have had direct conflict against forces of evil.
19. For which cause I judge that they, who from among the Gentiles are converted to God, are not to be disquieted. [20] But that we write unto them, that they refrain themselves from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication.29 That you abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which things keeping yourselves, you shall do well. +trungtruc2006 Buddhists do not offer food to Buddha or consecrate food to Buddha. The Cardinal knows more about the Catholic faith than you do. Keep your ego in check.
If, you, was invinted to the house of your friend, a poor one, who is a Hindu, and he offer you a meal, will you ask directly to his face was the food was offer to their God yet. Eating unclear food is not a sin, but shaming your poor brother is. Think before you open your mouth.
Very true, there is a difference. Food offered to other Gods should not be eaten, food made by non-Catholics can be eaten. There is no judgement or belittling when it comes to making distinctions. I had the same question about eating halal foods.
@@user-ks3qr5fk6m Re your " .. same question about eating halal food"
Could you please expand your comment so that we may know what you know about eating halal.
Thanks!

Hilton Chapman Sure. Of course, my knowledge on Islam is limited but I had many Muslim friends and ate at their homes multiple times. Muslims pray before they kill the animal. I’m not sure if the animal is offered up or if they just give thanks. But I no longer eat halal foods just in case. I am not afraid to offend anyone by not eating their food. They will not eat my Christmas ham that’s for sure... or bacon if I offer it for breakfast, and I respect that. Catholics are so afraid to offend people that they deny them the truth. Whereas, people from other religions are convicted and are not afraid to say, sorry I’m_______, and I can’t eat that. I accidentally offered my Muslim friend pepperoni pizza once and she said, “No, sorry I don’t eat that”. I was not offended at all. On the contrary, I respected her for standing up for what she believed in. Hope that helps.
With all the respect to his Eminence, I understand the concern for as the Psalmist writes "all the gods of the gentiles are demons" and some kitchens have idols so we should bless our food
Amen
It was a clarification on Catholic doctrine. It's worth asking because it's worth answering. And maybe they didn't laugh because they are respectful of the question? Or maybe they laughed because the Cardinal made a joke? So yeah. I have no idea what you're even talking about.
Amen! 🙏🏼
I have a question about God. If nothing is impossible for God then can He create a rock so heavy that even He cannot carry it? If He can create such a rock then wouldn't it mean that there IS something that He cannot do. Wouldn't that counter His omnipotence? I am confused.
That is a logical contradiction and the Lord cannot do logical contradictions. THe only way He could do this would be to become something lesser than God, then He would no longer be God. This is impossible. Evildoing is also impossible for God. All things are possible for God means good things.
God is that Rock. The rock is called Jesus Christ and is the cornerstone. It shall never be moved and shall be the foundation of our salvation "Let those with ears listen" also "They shall hear but not understand, they shall look but not percieve."
In an organisation which considers abortion, suicide and euthanasia to be completely unacceptable, how is it acceptable for a person with mental disability to be excluded from participating fully in the community?
Basically, if a foetus is diagnosed in the womb as having several mental disability, the Catholic Church is telling the parents "You must have this baby, and then we will reject it".
every baby is baptised is accepted into Gods family i have seen many children and adults with a mental disability at mass and receive the sacraments we are the same in GOD eyes
@manbat76: Who told you that fairytale
manbat76 people with mental impairments are able to participate in the Catholic community. They are accepted into the Church under 'invincible ignorance' .
i think the question should be can we eat food offered to Budda and the answer is no we cannot as catholics we are sinning if we eat food offered to false idols
qwer8907 Buddhism does not offer to the buddha.
The buddha statue, in buddhism, is regarded to more as an image of respect to a great teacher, than an idol.
The buddha is a teacher in buddhism, a mere mortal.
No buddhist offers food or anything to any symbol of any sort, nor do they worship anything, and their spiritual practices are purely of the personal mindfulness and behavior variety.
Peace, friend.
Ian Walker Well ok just chatted with a buddist friend she explained the food is offering to the spirits and also if u ask for something u offer food i guess the spirit of the dead i still not eat this food
the answer was right but the question was wrong
buddha is not a god, he's a man, a prophet
@@qwer8907 Re your response to Ian Walker " ... I still wouldn't eat this food."
That's a private matter, not doctrine.
A non-Catholic attends Mass (no Holy Communion) and bows before the Crucifix and even joins in the hymns. Is he Catholic? Or Christian?
On the contrary, most ppl (I mean Catholics but not *only* Catholics) follow the observances of a religion in a hollow fashion devoid of meaning. Those observances count for nothing - exceptions being proof of the rule.
We all know how ppl (ourselves included) rattle off the Grace before meals, or the Rosary without paying attention to what they are saying - are those prayers worth anything?
So it is the thought that counts. You believe in Christianity then that is all that matters. Be a true, solid Catholic - by the catechism of the church.

You forgot rule N° 4: Leave rebuttals on UA-cam ...
God doesn't do anything which violates his nature. For instance God is the truth therefore he can't lie and won't because he doesn't betray and deny his nature. This kind of question demonstrates that People don't understand the nature of God. Since God is absolute perfect and wise he doesn't waste his time to doing nonsense like create a a rock which is so heavy that he can't carry it.
Moses and Aharón were priests in the tabernacle. He extended his hands in his prayer for the people. This is the origin of the priestly usage of extending the hands
Well.. the council of Florence gets into relationships and dealings with non Catholics
Well, its pretty bad that I have eaten food ridden with sin. Nxt time I eat chinese food, I better make sure it goes to confession!
Best pray over it and ask God to bless it before you eat it.
❤️💗
Get rid of my little Frankie because he's a black cat? Looney Good heaven's, he's named after Francis of Assisi. how could anyone come up with such a strange idea?
My fortune cookie says I'm going to Hell. :D
Bison Turdjoy you will need holy water , 2 hail Mary’s and 2 masses for that one. 😂😂😂
This is in my opinion a stupid question. Food
Is food, you can eat any food cooked by anybody no matter what religion they are.
And where in Acts does it say that in Acts? I doubt that Peter ate a pig or gave such a stupid explanation. Maybe you confuse that with his vision, in which God tells him to eat unclean food and he refuses and is than admonished...
Or Muslims?
Says who?
I don't like holding hands either but there is nothing anywhere that forbids it.
And the outstretched arms are simply the traditional position of prayer - there's nothing particularly priestly about it. Moses did it and he was not a priest and I suppose Christ did it and he ... well, you know...
Well... The archbishop later said that adding to the liturgy is seriously wrong.
This video predates the 2010 Vatican issued guidance on the Roman missel which recommends that the orans position is reserved for the celebrant and that the non ordained who assume such during the our father are bypassing the celebrant who is praying on all their behalf.
So they are cutting him out, God's priest acting in persona Cristi and going directly to the father for themselves.
How very protestant of them!
Ha ha ha ha!
We can eat food cooked by anyone. Why the incomprehensibly pointless video title?
What an idiotic question
Wherever the Mega-Ego religion like Christian and Islamist go, there are conflits. Why? Look up to the harmony of Buddhism, Confusim and Taoism in Asia and learn how.
you're clearly not Asian and never heard of the brutality of the Chinese, Japanese, and Korean conscripts during ww2
@@nenabunena Also, you may want to include the very recent massacre of the Rohingyas by the majorly Buddhist Myanmarese militia (2017-18).
