- Part 2 of the September Q&A with Cardinal Arinze in Familyland, Bloomingdale, Ohio. Ok, do we dance in Church or not? It's not the first time the Cardinal was asked this question. But now you can watch a video reply. Get ready for more very soon.

This man should be our next Pope!
The more I hear this man speak, the more I begin to respect him. I especially like his clear devotion and rational approach, putting the modernists there were they belong: outside church.
AMEN.
I'm impressed with Cardinal Arinze! Clearly, he's moved by the Holy Spirit. Might he be our next pope who was described as "the man dressed in red" and whom St. Malachy dubbed "Peter the Great"? I don't know, but he sure seems to be a good candidate.
thank you for good advice which our hearts already tell us is wrong. let dances be kept to parish halls. let us worship God without distractions.
Very very true ....his words really addresses the lacuna
Europeans must follow their worship manner...
Liturgical dance in Africa, in Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia, the Pacific Rim, New Guinea, Let we of the melanin WORSHIP OUR LORD INTHE MANNER IN WHICH WE WILL.
Cardinal Arinze speaks those culturally Europe and America, who should not dance. We whose ancestors kidnapped are not really of that culture. God created our legs, limbs, hands..."Let everything that hath breath, praise the Lord"...

We really need to dance before the Lord- it is very biblical and one aspect of the worship of Israel.
May God Bless U Kardinal

I cannot agree more with His Eminence. Listen again to 2nd question. NO DANCING is involved even in Africa, just a gracious movement. The Mistery of the Sacrifice that we live in Mass does not contemplate that. I'll quote the Cardinal when he says "The people discussing Liturgical Dance should spend that time saying the Rosary" OWNED!! :p
Yes!!!!!!
so true
I like this prefect of God.
I want you to show me where the rubrics allow for dance in the Roman missal.
Also, the Latin Rite is the NO. The TLM and the NO are both the same rite (Latin), but in different forms.
The Cardinal's take on these matters are right on. Yet, there is so much disobedience in these same matters committed by musicians, so-called liturgists (in the blogosphere we call them "liturgeists"), pastors, and even bishops. I for one will not say that all of those people commit these liturgical sins. I know many that are very good on these matters. However, those not so good seem to take up the majority, sadly.

@TenderTrap86 - Yes you just believe what suits you and ignore everthing else.
@TenderTrap86
Very good, but I did not put foward a theory, just a fact: a blindingly obvious and demonstrable one.
This.
@rpgabc123 it's easy. "Haced esto en conmemoración mía". No vas a misa, entonces desobedeces a Jesús; no eres de Cristo. "Nadie va al Padre sino es por mí". Además bailar durante la misa no va de acuerdo a lo que se conmemora en la última cena: El sacrificio sin mancha. ¿A caso El Padre sacrificó a su hijo por diversión?
@blackmalelaw Why can't people just dance after the mass? The duration of mass is about 90 minutes, tops, per week. Why can't all the other stuff be done outside of the mass? It's truly wonderful for people to incoporate their culture into the Faith, whether it be dance or song, but not during the sacramental rites of God's Church.
@iotaunam1
LoL, the 'Original' Mass is the Last Supper! The Tridentine Mass isn't quite that old ;).
don’t have these problems in the Tridentine Liturgy
@iotaunam1 Whatever.
Si.
La gente quiren bailar despues la misa, bueno. Mucho bueno. Lo hace. Pero, no durante la misa. Por favor.
@iotaunam1 I have a conspiracy theory for your conspiracy theory and the guy down the street has one opposing mine.
When he mentioned the Latin rite, he meant the TLM, not the NO
berniepeng This is very incorrect. You are wrong.
I respectfully disagree, with His Eminence. The mas is the mass, is the mass. Any other kind of cultural worship can happen outside of mass with as much frequency as desired. That's really a wonderful thing. However, leave the mass alone. It's like he's talking out of both sides of his motuh.
@7SonsofFeanor
You clearly have no clue about Catholic theology.
I humbly disagree with His Eminence. Africa doesn't have it's own liturgical rite to claim where dance is permissable. He says some dance is alright, but some dance is wrong, and dance is permitted there, but not here. It's confusing. His Emininence said it himself: "Dance is not a part of the Latin rite." Africans worship in the Latin rite. Period.
However, if people want to dance as an act of worship, do it! Just not during the mass. Time can be made for dance worship , but, not during mass.
you missed the point. Leave the rites for a moment. It should be judged and allowed or not, according to the intentions of the act. Mass is for worshipping. What he said was according to North American, European perspective of dancing (showing off the skills, appreciating, entertaining), it should not be allowed but in some cultures (for example in my place), they have specific and particular type of movements (known indistinguisably as dance)...like cultural movements as a sign for welcoming, offerring, honouring, humbling, thanking and so on. thank you
...oh one more also there is a dance showing the symbol of mating, stealing other men's wife...of course they are not acceptable :D
