Looks delish! Actually, capers are the green, unripened flower buds of the caper bush, also known as Flinders rose. A juniper berry is the female seed cone produced by the various species of junipers.
I love that your channel has grown and changed, but I love that you didn’t hire an entire production team to film you and have your videos just be another content creator wanting to make millions a year. Breath of fresh air. My Husband appreciates your videos too.
It's weird to be happy about not creating jobs for other people. I'd be stoked to know she was in a position to be able to bring on a team of people who were able to make a living helping create this kind of content. 🤷♀️
Emmy, I LOVE your channel all the time. I do want to let you know that capers and juniper berries are not the same thing. Capers are the closed flower bud of a bush (Capparis spinosa). The buds will develop into fruits the size of an olive (the caper berry) if not harvested when small. Both caper (buds) and the caper berry are pickled and eaten and they have a similar flavor. Juniper berries are the seeds of juniper evergreen trees and are used to flavor gin. When dried, they are used as a spice in Scandinavian cooking. Hope this helps with your further trying and tasting adventures.
I was going to comment the same thing 😂 I much prefer juniper berries, probably because I grew up with my parents cooking with them. Capers aren't my favourite, but oh boy, juniper berries! Now I'm thinking of how to incorporate some into my homemade bread.
Marylander here: try some Old Bay on your deviled eggs next time! Everyone here does it and it’s all the rage! 🦀 it’s also a beautiful color to add to the yolks if you make them the traditional way where you scoop the yolks out and pipe them back in with a piping bag. ❤
I completely agree that we need to teach our kids to cook. Good job making your kids responsible for their own breakfast. I'm sure that it is all age appropriate. As they get older, they can learn harder things. Keep up the good work, Emmy.
One suggestion: salt the water when you're boiling eggs in the shell; osmotic pressure will draw some of the salt content into the egg. And you can add a _lot_ of salt, a lot more than pasta water, because they won't saturate like pasta can. Also, an alternative method for boiled eggs: when I boil eggs in the shell, whether I'm going for soft or hard, I always start with cold water and add in cold eggs before I even turn on the burner. This makes it much less likely for the eggshells to crack during cooking, because cold eggs going into boiling water causes a thermal shock to the eggshell, which can cause it to crack no matter how gingerly you put them in. It's especially likely to happen to the first one you add, because each cold egg going into the water will cool it. Anyway, once the water hits a rolling boil, I turn off the burner, and leave them to finish cooking in residual heat; I modulate the hardness by changing how long I'll leave them there before I put them in cold water to stop cooking. It'll take some experimentation to nail it down for your particular range or stove; also, I developed this technique on electric ranges, and I suspect that you might need to leave a gas or induction range on low heat to finish cooking, depending on the pan or pot you're using and how much heat it retains.
The most decadent eggs I have had - Deviled Eggs with Bacon and Caviar. The bacon was crumpled into bits and put in with the egg yolks then once the eggs were stuffed, caviar was put on top. Divine! And it was my first taste of caviar.
I always had issues making hard boiled eggs that would easily peel UNTIL I tried your method. The eggs cook perfectly every time(13mins) and if I crack the egg shell all the way around and give a slight twist the shell slips off in 2 big pieces. Thank you so much for sharing this method 🎉🤗
This looks good! A friend’s German mom taught me to scoop chopped hard boiled egg up and have it with salt n vinegar potato chips. I add chives now and it’s soooo good❤
With all the bad news in the world getting to me I really needed your light tonight Emmy 🙏🏻 thank you for being a much needed bright light in the world 🤍
Great video Emmy!! I can recall when I was homeless and faced many things in life until $70,000 biweekly began rolling in and my life went from a homeless nobody to a different person with good things to offer!!!! Mostly times I barely could afford dishes like this. But thank God for today.
Wow 😱 I know her too, Caroline Maria Bravo is a remarkable individual who has brought immense positivity and inspiration into my life. Her unwavering wisdom has been an invaluable asset, enriching my journey in countless ways
I'm sure she films multiple videos in a day and since she specifically mentioned in this video cleaning out her fridge, I would be willing to bet she filmed this video the same day as the previous one, or least close.
I was watching this thinking "this conceptually goes well with the 'entire cucumber' trend she should make a video on that" and I go to the channel and see... you already have! off to go watch that now too
12:37 “I think vinegar is the way to go” totally agree.. sounds weird but when I was younger I used to slice up boiled eggs and eat them with salt and vinegar.. everyone thought I was strange lol
What a fabulous idea! I'm the one that always gets asked to bring deviled eggs to gatherings, and an 'egg flight' would be an awesome (and original) addition. Thank you for the inspiration!!
Never change Emmy, I have loved your channel for so many years and every time you upload it's like a breath of fresh air. Going to try making this soon too! You're so inspiring, the way you always try a new thing and appreciate it regardless of whether its your thing or not. Love you, from South Africa!
This “trend” made me laugh! It hasn’t been that long ago that my 95 year old grandma shared her best friends deviled egg recipe from 50+ years ago with me. Hard boiled eggs with a dollop of Miracle Whip on top. I know everyone isn’t a Miracle Whip fan, but it already has vinegar, sugar, and spices mixed in; so, it’s a great accompaniment to eggs!
I was just about to comment about the star tip on the Kewpie for making things look cute, but I went back to check if I missed it and of course you already knew about it haha.
I want you to cook for me when I'm sick. Everything about you is just so comforting. 🥰 Eggs are pretty much the only thing I can eat without my stomach wanting to murder me. This video was super fun! I should be better at cooking them but I'm so horrible, it's embarrassing. 😭🙈
Paprika! For the OG. I know you were using what you had… did you not have paprika? Also have you tried the spicy version of paprika cause you’re a spice fan? I’ve been Uber curious and I’m a very hot hot fan… Just wondered. Thanks for all your work Emmy!
Anyone else loving the synchronicity of the chickens clucking in the background as Emmy is filming an egg episode? Like they're proudly shouting out "That's my egg! I made that!!!"
For the pickles you talked about making, do you need the pickling agent that’s used for proper canning pickles? Or is it just a simple “refrigerator pickle” situation?
The Ohio state fair has deviled egg flights. They have savory options like dill, buffalo chicken dip and Mediterranean, but they also have sweet flavors like smores, espresso, maple bacon, and bubble gum. I know it sounds weird/disgusting, but they were all delicious!
Have you tried homemade guacamole mix with hard boiled egg yolk and squeeze the filling on top of the boiled egg? Carbonara deviled eggs…jalapeño popper deviled eggs…my favorite that I made is bacon with blue crab deviled eggs
I made all of the selections tonight! I want to send you a picture! My family loved them. Hey, the boiling of the eggs as you demonstrated worked better than I have ever experienced! Thank you!❤
Egg the magical fruit. 😂 I was always taught to cook eggs starting with tepid water but once I started cooking them the way you showed us so long ago, I've been doing it your way. I think you probably saw the comment about juniper berries not being capers; I grew up having juniper berries in the food my parents cooked because we were lucky enough to live in the bushes of Northern Ontario and there were lots of juniper bushes in the wild. Juniper berries are also used by indigenous people in medicine.
Check out Rebecca of Dollar Tree dinners she made a whole themed egg flight based on regular combos and themed foods of things out there but in an egg flight - looked so good
Since this trend has come out. I have been curious about cream cheese and egg combo... Glad to know someone has actually tried it out and said it was good; will be trying tomorrow
Crème fraîche, caviar, and chopped onion would be fantastic on one of those eggs. Especially for company. You could give everyone a bit of high quality caviar without breaking the bank.
I loved deviled eggs, but i need to figure out a mayo substitute lol. My husband is allergic (eggs so no deviled eggs at all for him lol) and i hate mayo(i didlike the flavor and it alwyas feels so greasy to me and i have texture issues). I would waste so much even with buying the smallest container i can find.
For these recipes, sour cream or a thick greek yoghurt would work, I think. Not the same as mayo because it's lower fat, but if you want less greasy then it'll obviously have to be lower fat. I like to mix mayo with greek yogurt for salad dressings like coleslaw. Different ratios depending how light or heavy I want it to be.
Hey Emmy! Capers are actually the pickled flower buds of the caper bush! I also found out recently that they can be as big as grapes which I have never seen before 🫣
We did jalapeño popper and buffalo chicken ones for a baby shower. The mama to be was all about spicy stuff.. there was none left!! But we made ranch deviled eggs first then added the toppings.. yeah it was fun and it was delicious

Yes! I’m really allergic to juniper, but capers are lovely!
Thank you for the info. I didn't know that. See, ya learn something every day. 💜
Juniper berries are GREAT with venison, just FYI! Don't need many either, to elevate!
Thank you! This is the second time I've heard Emmy make this mistake and it really bugs me.

I love putting juniper berries in the brine solution for my pickled onions.
You can also make capers from nasturtium seeds.

She's gotten that wrong before and been corrected, I guess she doesn't read comments
I thought the thumbnail said “EGG FIGHT”. I was ready to rumble!!! My deviled eggs would beat your deviled eggs!!! lolololol
