congrats on publishing your webcomic! this actually gave me motivation to work on mine haha. even if i'm currently a bit too busy to work on it full time, at least i can do smaller tasks like thumbnails and story boards, as you've brought up 💪 baby steps is still progress
Oh man, this takes me back. One of my first ever comic works was a middle school assignment in art class about Persephone’s kidnapping. It was focused on her mother Ceres (or Demeter in Greek) and her attempts to get her back from Hades, they also gave me full creative freedom so that allowed me to make it humorous and not dwell on its dark themes (which mostly flew over my head at the time really). It had some whacky elements, like Hades having a skeletal sidekick that Cerberus liked to nibble on, or Zeus having a beard shaped like lightning 😅 Anyway, now I’m 20 years older and actually trying to start an art career by making comics, so your videos are super helpful! I will definitely try the thumbnailing before the storyboarding (already done with the character design).
I don't have much experience with making comics, but I've been learning by putting together some short ones and I gotta say, I really relate to your process and struggles. XD I work better developing things that already exist and I'm always super reluctant about changing things. Also, character design is tough. XD But yeah, there ain't no skill that can't be learned! The best of luck on your own creative journey!
That's great to hear! It's so tempting to jump in the deep end with comics, but building your skills slowly with smaller comics is the best way to go about it. Sounds like you're doing things the right way, although I may be biased! >:b
Just discovered your channel, I feel so at home😅 I started the first drafts of my StarCraft based comic about 20 years ago. After several aesthetic upgrades and redraws, going back and forth between digital and traditional mediums, I'm now on the right track. Having made 20 complete pages, colored and lettered, I'm now close to completing the thumbnail sketches of the leftover 60 pages 😅😅 Ah yes, and finally settled down on a character sheet👍 Really enjoy your videos!
Sweet, thanks for the info. My question is I heard you can copyright a lot of characters for $50. At one time. Do you can explain that process to us. Thanks
2:08 i was not ready for that 😂😂😂 also i like your advise dude keep it up
Publication Day! Congrats!
Thanks!

"baby steps is still progress"
EXACTLY this. Very well put and always worth remembering, especially when you feel guilty or down.
Congratulations on your publication day! I’m about to start my first comic soon. This was super helpful!
Awesome! Let me know when you publish yours!

Sounds fun! What was the skeletal sidekick's name?

Love to hear that! Let us know when you've finished it so we know where we can read it. StarCraft is great. And thank you for the kind words :)
if your end isn't better than your beginning, your story isn't as good as it could be.
planning is so important!
Agreed! It can seem boring or pointless especially when you just wanna get creating but it really does make a difference.
@@BrinkleyComics fr, you had a lot of great advice in this video
Lo❤ve your voice and your work
Thanks!

Absolutely! Stay tuned because I'm gonna be doing another video on fan art which will cover copyright.
So, at least according to one teacher I had, the 'taking' of Persephone is not quite so dark. The word (SA) means 'kidnap' in that instance.
And that's fair. With myths you're gonna have a lot of interpretations. They're usually weird and confusing enough as it is anyway!
@@BrinkleyComics Oh, 100% :)
