  • Magnesium is a popular supplement for constipation. Whether it be Magnesium citrate, Magnesium Oxide, or another form of the mineral one thing is for sure- Magnesium will help you poop! But, is it possible to over-do it on this supplement? And if so, how do you determine how much Magnesium you actually need to take? Thankfully, I'll explain it all in this video!

    A small scoop of magnesium oxide before bedtime has proved beneficial. I also make sure to take adequate calcium citrate and a multiple with minerals to make sure I have sufficient minerals and Vitamin D3 every day which many practitioners recommend for overall health and well-being.

    Fiber only helps me to a certain point, and past that it makes my constipation worse. Probiotics don't help at all, I guess because my problem is a motility issue. Miralax doesn't work as well as Magnesium, and it has more side effects. I take 1200mg of magnesium citrate a day. Do you think this is in the danger zone?

    • @Ida-Adriana
      @Ida-Adriana 4 дні тому

      Are you drinking enough water/liquids? Even vit c can definitely help, most animals can make their own, and it increases in times of high stress. Sugar/glucose displaces vit c also, raising the requirements. 1200 mg as in the full dose but elemental magnesium of around 444 mg? My mg citrate is 1480 mg offering 444 mg elemental.
      I don’t believe this is too much, it’s probably just enough to not be deficient, as that’s how most RDA was calculated back in the day. There’s a great site (or was?) acu-cell and it shows the interactions between minerals and vitamins. They usually go well in pairs and also can displace each other, like zinc and copper, for example.
      And food anti nutrients can displace and hinder bioavailability of nutrients we require. Our bodies are like laboratories, I think 😂

      That is where I am at as well. I am so tired of buying supplements for this that and the other thing. All these docs say something different and I don't know what to think about any of it anymore. So hopefully whole real food will be enough.

    It works great but it caused me so much gut inflammation that everything I ate or drank felt like I was drinking acid. I also get sooo lethargic after 3 days of even topical magnesium. I have the same gut issues with cascara, milk of magnesia, aloe and pretty much everything that works lol

    • @Ida-Adriana

      What are you eating? Have you tried fermented stuff like sauerkraut? It’s infinitely higher in probiotics than shop pills. And beef has a healing quality, liver particularly is the most nutrient dense food for humans, along with oysters.
      Even in Ayurveda they prescribe meat sometimes. Are you under a lot of stress? You might need more vit c, as stress and glucose displaces it. Mint tea is great for messed up digestion. If you’re desperate, there’s poop transplants but you can try the other stuff first.
      My digestion got completely messed up when I went through very high stress I couldn’t escape for a looong time (over 1 year, more like 3). It’s more or less ok now, when I follow my own advice 😂
      Oh I forgot, bone broth is extremely healing, collagen peptides too. You can make it by cooking chicken or beef bones for many hrs, pressure cooker speeds it up. It’s very easy to digest and the nutrients are bioavailable. Do you eat a lot of plants? Cause they are great but can contain many anti nutrients and these can cause issues. It’s like the plant’s self defences.

      Check your electrolytes. Make sure you're getting enough mineral salt, potassium, calcium, mag. Usually early in morning I make my electrolyte in a small coffee mug of water & drink it down & my lower tummy starts girgling within 1/2 hour (and I'm having constip problems over a year now)
