I'm so angry this was deleted. This only helped to prove that Dudley was manipulated by his parents, and really shows how much he's grown as an individual.
I completely understand your frustration! This deleted scene showed Dudley's growth as an individual and his realization that his parents' beliefs and actions were wrong would have been a powerful addition to the film. It's a shame that it didn't make it into the final cut, as it would have added depth and complexity to Dudley's character arc.

@@pajasek99I think the reason they cut it from the film was because it just wouldn't have flowed well with the intro of the movie. It's kind of a long, awkward scene despite the emotional power behind it.
IIRC Rowling has confirmed that when the Dementors attacked, because Dudley had no negative memories of his own to be tormented by due to the Dursleys spoiling him, he instead was tormented with the realization of how everyone else actually saw him.
This was one of my favorite parts in the books. Dudley had been leaving Harry alone over the years and stopped bullying him ages ago, you could tell he had started to change and was trying to better himself in the background.
It's really after OoTP he started to change. I have read somewhere that it was Dudley's exposure to the dementors that made him see how much of a nasty person he was, and that he himself suffered through the same misery at that time as he had put his bullying victims through, and that's what made him change in the end.
I remember in one of the books Dudley left a cup of tea outside of Harry's bedroom as a peace offering, but Harry accidentally kicked it over and assumed it was a mean prank. That always made me sad for some reason.

Because they're idiots. Because despite making the final book two separated movies they somehow felt including a scene of Harry and Hermione ambiguously dancing with some underline romantic/sexual tension out of the blue was better, or that having the final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort be a long battle stretching all over the castle with slaps involved and almost no words being exchanged was better than the original from the book. The Harry Potter movies are not good ladies and gentlemen. From movie 4 onward hey're ok at best, but it's such wasted potential compared to the source material is not even funny and most times time doesn't have anything to do with it, it's just weird direction and writing choices most of the times.
@@BlackWind-rx5ilbook 4 is, in my opinion, the best book ever written. The movie is dogshit compared to the book. 5 and 6 films are decent. DH part 1 is boring and they couldn’t even include this scene. Part 2 is great but as a whole the movies wholly disappointed compared to the books.
He was never close to him as he was to Ron (his brother in law) He only visits him with his children on Christmas Harry’s real family is his and Ginny’s children (His father's offspring) His mother's relationships only protected him physically while emotional support came from James’s
What a beautiful scene. What J.K. said referring to when she was asked what the demtur showed Dudley. It really does through everything into context from Dudely being a spoiled brat to somewhat insightful and redeemed as a human
I'm in the middle of watching all the movies for the first time ever, and when I got to this bit in deathly hallows, and saw it wasn't in the actual movie, I stopped everything to watch this UA-cam clip, this scene might be my favorite in the whole franchise of movies, and am so angry it wasn't included in the main movie, Dudley redeemed himself in this scene and they removed it from the movie? like that's so sad, so every time I watch the movie in the future, I will come back here to watch this clip, because to be honest, I think this should've been in the movie
I love when Dudley looks down to their hands during the middle of their handshake. And the little 'ooh' face he makes at 1:20. Like he recognises he is shaking hands with greatness, or power? IDK but that face made the scene for me.
I really hope Dudley went on to become a part of Harry’s family going forward. His character arc was just phenomenal and I wish I could have seen more of it. To go from being a spoiled, petulant child to a mature young man in touch with his feelings was just wonderful to see. I also wish I could see some redemption from Petunia. There was some guilt on her part, I can tell. When she said Harry didn’t just lose a mother, she lost a sister, it really sunk in. She loved Lily and felt guilty for being jealous of her magical abilities and for letting it tear them apart. I think she even felt some guilt over how she treated Harry, though because of Vernon she was hardly willing to let that show.
One of the more intruiging character developments in the books, starting off as an arrogant youngster and constantly bullying harry.. Changing after harry helped him against the dementors, slowly becoming more friendly and trying to not show his bad attitude so much (leaving a cup of (cold) tea for harry as a sort of 'reach out' to him!) and finally even turning (in a way) against his father in an attempt to show he was ready to be friends!! He looks SO happy that he broke the tension finally.. This scene DESERVED a go in the movies (even of harry looks like he wants to run/defend himself at first!).
I like to believe that down the line, Harry and Dudley had some form of contacts as they grew older. Obviously not best of friends but maybe a call every other holiday or maybe one of Dudley’s kids ended up being user and that brought them closer.
How about this theory… Harry was an unknown Horcrux right and we all know how being close to a Horcrux changes you like it did with Ron. Maybe the Dursleys were actually good people who were just being corrupted by it. Kinda makes you look at them differently.
Such an oversight to cut this scene. This is a redemption arc built from the first book up, and so wonderfully acted. Dudley walking back to Vernon goes hand in hand with Draco joining his mother and father at the Battle of Hogwarts.
I have a sneaking suspicion that if Dudley eventually had a son, he taught him to befriend the skinny, bullied kid and use his clobbering size for protecting his friends. I like to think he grew into a really good person. The neighbor people appreciate having. The friend people can count on. The guy no one would ever suspect was a mean nasty kid at one point.
That long hard look at his father as he stepped over the fence with full composure then kind of sauntering back is such good acting.. building and relieving the tension. I was always disappointed Dudley never had a redemption till I learned the books were different.
I also kinda like how Vernon doesnt respond to Harry when he says "I'm just a waste of space isn't that right Vernon?" He knows, he just isn't saying it. Anyways the movie directors were despicable for cutting this out.
I hate how both of the Deathly Hallows movies had redemptive arcs for two of the long-time antagonists of the series (Dudley and Draco, respectively) and the filmmakers decided to leave _both_ moments on the cutting room floor. Absolutely clueless
Tbf, Draco's wouldn't have made sense really. He's not known for being brave, and he and his family would have been brutally tortured and murdered if Voldemort had won the war and he'd helped Harry.
@ But we see Draco over the previous couple of movies becoming conflicted. He doesn’t want to kill Dumbledore and it’s clear that he’s not revelling in all of Voldemort’s evil machinations. Throwing Harry the wand at the end gives him a nice little redemptive moment but I still don’t think it turns him into an out and out hero.
@@medalion1390 It's definitely true in both the books and the movies that he's disillusioned with Voldemort and the Death Eaters - he was uncomfortale around Bertha Jorkins dead body, and he was trying but struggling with killing Dumbledore face-to-face. He lied about knowing who Harry was at Malfoy Manor. He's not evil. But he DID paralyze Harry in their sixth year and then violently stomp on his face, breaking his nose and then covering him with the invisibility cloak so no one would find him lying there helpless and in agony the entire train ride back. He did once wish that Hermione would be killed by the Basilisk for being a mudblood and a nuisance. He tried to give a cursed necklace to Dumbledore to try and kill him. He hurt and abused and used people over the years. He is not evil, but he IS selfish and often cruel and cowardly. Being saved by someone you've hated for years is not enough for someone like Draco - or anyone really - to suddenly value that person's life over their own parents. If anything, it probably irked him that he had to be saved by Potter.
@@SecretSurname I agree, he’s definitely selfish, cruel and cowardly. In the first few books/films he’s pretty much the typical “bully” antagonist. But I still don’t think that makes him beyond redemption, or at least worthy of a small redemptive character moment.
@@medalion1390 I agree, he really did deserve one. And I loved that he married someone who didn't share his parents beliefs about pureblood vs muggleborns. I don't remember if they mentioned that in the movies, but if they didn't, they should have!
Harry Melling (Dudley) is a really good actor. The facial expressions, reluctance to let go of Harry's hand and abandoned attempts to speak more after his line were performed perfectly. It's obvious that Dudley wanted to apologise for everything that he did to Harry, growing up but couldn't find the words or courage to do so. It's not as good as his redemption in the book but that's not the actor's fault. He still did an amazing job. Shame the scene was cut.
My headcanon is that Dudley came to live either with the Potters or close by to them, helped watched James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna, and created Rube Goldberg contraptions since he's a Muggle who cannot do magic.
"I'm just a waste of space isn’t that right Vernon?" Simple line where Harry throws back years of vitriol he's had to endure, but Vernon can't even properly respond to it. Acknowleding it would confirm just how vile he truly is, but denying it would contradict the years of torment they put Harry through. Instead of either one he turns his back on the truth, ready to leave. He and Petunia will never truly face themselves.
As someone who's only seen the movies and will possibly never read the books, I like how they did this scene. It shows that a goodbye scene between two characters doesn't always have to be emotional or drawn out. When Dudley realized that this was probably the last time he'll ever see Harry, he wanted to make amends. He knows he can't say anything too emotional or sappy, especially with the kind of relationship they have, so he does what he can. He offers a simple handshake and says, "I don't think you're a waste of space." Almost like he was saying, "I'm sorry for how I treated you, and you should know that I don't see you the same way they do." Harry, possibly stunned, can only say, "Thanks" in response. To cap it off, when Dudley walks back to the car, Harry quietly says, "See you, Big D." A sincere acknowledgment and goodbye. Again, I've never read the books and possibly never will, so I think this is definitely one of those deleted scenes that should've been kept in, as it would've made a greater impact.
Petunia I understand removing cause shes oldrr and knew better about her mistreatment of Harry, but Dudley was an impressionable troll kid who got humbled by Harry around the 5th book and felt a tiny bit of respect
1:24 in fact: Harry melling actor played "Frank Smith.". From Harry Potter movies. Tv shows animated Matoro's Legacy Ignition act 1 haos contestir Vol 1. Chapter 9.
As upset as I am that this got deleted, I am happy it at least got filmed. Last time I watched this movie, I paused it at the part this scene would’ve played and watch this deleted scene (and the petunia one) as if it was never deleted
The moment no one saw, the moment Harry and Dudley realized, they had a brother in each other. Or at least, they recognized one another as such the moment they shake hands.
People talk about Dudley, but I really like how ashamed Vernon looks about Harry's remark. Shows the Vernon regrets his actions and (possibly) that Vernon now has a great deal of respect for Harry
I love how Vernon gives Harry a look of realising that he could’ve been a quite mean father to him after Harry calls him out for all his shit he says to Harry haha

At last Harry got a family (from his mother's bloodline)... A brother
He was never close to him as he was to Ron (his brother in law)
He only visits him with his children on Christmas
Harry’s real family is his and Ginny’s children
(His father's offspring)
His mother's relationships only protected him physically while emotional support came from James’s
They didn’t have to hug but a handshake was a great sign of love
Even though this was deleted, I like to think it still happened
It was in the books so it’s canon
@@Lancelot0311thank god
I love this.... kinda wish we saw them hug, but this was also great, and his "See ya big D".
Everyone talking about the Dudley stuff, but I think Harry throwing Vernon’s words back at him is just so satisfying
What a beautiful scene. What J.K. said referring to when she was asked what the demtur showed Dudley. It really does through everything into context from Dudely being a spoiled brat to somewhat insightful and redeemed as a human
Dudley’s actor did this perfectly man what a waste
Very nice and moving scene .. a shame that it was deleted . But in fact, that scene appears in the book
We all bickered and even physically challenged our siblings but most of the time they end up being the people we love the most as adults
I like to believe that down the line, Harry and Dudley had some form of contacts as they grew older. Obviously not best of friends but maybe a call every other holiday or maybe one of Dudley’s kids ended up being user and that brought them closer.
I believe I read that their kids play together sometimes and that he and Dudley contact each other during the holidays.
How about this theory… Harry was an unknown Horcrux right and we all know how being close to a Horcrux changes you like it did with Ron. Maybe the Dursleys were actually good people who were just being corrupted by it. Kinda makes you look at them differently.
Damn that’s next level
Damn
But wouldn't that change anyone that's close to Harry, like Ron and Hermione (don't know if I spelled that right)
Nope they were always shit
The first book debunks that by showing us how horrible the Dursleys are before Harry arrives in the first chapter.
The aeroplane sounds at 1:40. Thats how you know its filmed in London 😆
Never cut character development.
Such an oversight to cut this scene. This is a redemption arc built from the first book up, and so wonderfully acted.
Dudley walking back to Vernon goes hand in hand with Draco joining his mother and father at the Battle of Hogwarts.
ugh it is SUCH A DISSERVICE TO NOT HAVE THIS IN THE MOVIEEEE. Maybe it would have made the cut if Dudley walked more quickly lmao damn
David Hayes just seemed to linger too long on things that didn’t matter and skip other things that did, right?
I cry aost Everytime I watch this. Y do they always leave out the best parts
The only thing that could have made this better is if he actually gave harry a hug after the handshake.
I like to think Dudley and Harry actually became close family in the future and Dudley didn't turn out like his parents
Harry maguire before signing for Hull
This is something i always wanted to happen in themovie was to see Dudley be nice to harry after harry stopped the dementors from killing him
I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when the horrible decision was made to cut this. Actually insane.
One of the best scenes of the entire Harry Potter series. Some people need to lose their jobs for deleting this
This scene is so warm for me 🔥
Dudley was abused just as much as Harry was in that house. Just in a different way.
"See you, Big D", that's what she said to the kings watching this video.
That Scene is so wholesome!
This is one of those pivotal moment... Director must have lost his mind
I also kinda like how Vernon doesnt respond to Harry when he says "I'm just a waste of space isn't that right Vernon?" He knows, he just isn't saying it. Anyways the movie directors were despicable for cutting this out.
This should have been in the movie! Also the fact vernon does not outright agree to harry comment of being "a waste of space" says a bit as well
They really should have made this scene work and kept it in the movie.
At least they kept it in the book
I'm so upset they deleted this.... It would've been a tear moment.
I love how Dudley stares his dad down while making his way towards Harry like "I dare you to say something.."
R.i.p richard griffiths
Goodbye Big D😂
I pretend It's still technically in the movie, It's too wholesome and important to ignore.
My headcanon is that Dudley came to live either with the Potters or close by to them, helped watched James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna, and created Rube Goldberg contraptions since he's a Muggle who cannot do magic.
"I'm just a waste of space isn’t that right Vernon?"
Simple line where Harry throws back years of vitriol he's had to endure, but Vernon can't even properly respond to it.
Harry refused to go because he didint want to be in the car when they crashed into the giant green wall a few feet in front of the car
Petunia I understand removing cause shes oldrr and knew better about her mistreatment of Harry, but Dudley was an impressionable troll kid who got humbled by Harry around the 5th book and felt a tiny bit of respect
no idea why they removed this
You didn’t have to hug him but shaking his hand was a mature way dudders good luck with your life
You can tell that Dudley wanted to say more, but he just couldn't get it out.
Im so glad the cousins were friends in the end. Well done Dudley
Miyagi once said there’s no such thing as a bad student. Only a bad teacher.
At least Harry Potter and his cousin got to say goodbye.
if this dont make u cry idk what will
1:24 in fact: Harry melling actor played "Frank Smith.". From Harry Potter movies. Tv shows animated Matoro's Legacy Ignition act 1 haos contestir Vol 1. Chapter 9.
I feel this would have been a major moment if this had been left in
this scene would've been great to see in cinemas 100% agree
Aaawww, i loved it this one... Supposed.. do not deleted this scene.. i felt so tears 😭
As upset as I am that this got deleted, I am happy it at least got filmed. Last time I watched this movie, I paused it at the part this scene would’ve played and watch this deleted scene (and the petunia one) as if it was never deleted
I can never forgive them for deleting this scene
The moment no one saw, the moment Harry and Dudley realized, they had a brother in each other. Or at least, they recognized one another as such the moment they shake hands.
"Let's delete this waste of space" - director
Harry sounded like he was going to cry when he said "see ya Big D"
After a few hundred bong rips, Big D realized that his cousin being a wizard was pretty rad
People talk about Dudley, but I really like how ashamed Vernon looks about Harry's remark. Shows the Vernon regrets his actions and (possibly) that Vernon now has a great deal of respect for Harry
Best deleted scene ever
Despicable to cut this. Easily could have cut voldemort and lucious chatting or any of the establishing shots of landscapes for this TWO MINUTES
I love Dudley because he saw with dementors that he suffered so many kids with his favorite sport : boxe. So he changed to be so nice with his cousin
omg i just found this and it is sooo remakrable sceane that it should not of been cut. Woww blows my mind ummm this many years later.
I love how Vernon gives Harry a look of realising that he could’ve been a quite mean father to him after Harry calls him out for all his shit he says to Harry haha
