fsr need to catch up on the rest of the AI upscalers . you know amd needs to work harder when even intel is catching up ....
also nice theet bro .
Thanks for actually including the FPS impact - XeSS tends to look better than FSR in isolation but as you show it is also notably more taxing on performance than FSR (on non-intel GPUs at least) at the same scaling level, something people tend to gloss over a bit. Maybe an interesting test would be comparing the quality at the same framerate rather than same scaling level, especially for the upcoming 3.1
Nice video as usual! I have an unrelated question: would you still advise your monitor, the LG 34GN850P? While OLEDs are nice and you are using one even for productivity, my balance is about 80% work, 20% game, so I worry about burn-in. The LG is a bit older, any other you would now rather advise over the LG?
Thanks for the job, perfect as usual.
Great to see you bringing attention to the flaws of TAA. It seems that XeSS 1.3 is good enough to actually trade blows with native TAA like DLSS does. More comparisons in movement would be welcome though. A great comparison nonetheless.

Xess 1.3 is impressive let see AMD FSR 3.1 what can do
The fact that the change is a 100mb file really goes to show that optimizing the data you have can go a LONG way to providing a better product vs throwing more data at the problem. 100mb is nothing for such a decent uplift in image quality.
I can't wait to buy my 7900XT next month! Thank you for all the tips and Info videos. You've really helped me make my decision on which GPU to get that will last me at least 4-5 years. Will pair nicely with my 7800x3d. Thank you again.

I would advise you an IPS 1440P Ultrawide Curved if possible. 3440x1440 :D
really excited for fsr 3.1
Again great 👍 vid man. I thought FSR3 was #3 in upscaling . I heard you say it uses 2.2 still to upscale?
Yes, that's exactly it, hence why fsr 3.1 is such a big improve
I was thinking about XeSS 1.3 vs FSR variants because that is my reality with 1070Ti and here you are again with top notch quality video! Played CP2077 with FSR 2 Quality and got used to the artefacts and shimmering/"living" stuff :D Love you man this was just what I needed :)
Glad I could help
I ended up using the fsr 2.2 mod for cyberpunk instead of fsr 2.1, xess 1.2 or 1.3 as they all had one issue or another, and fsr 2.2 just looked the cleanest to me overall
Xess 1.3 lowkey looked the worst because it had intense noise on foliage, at certain angles anyways, but it doesnt show up in the video so im not sure whats going on here

I can't believe cyberunk in 2024 still is using fsr2.1 what in the world???
yup, FSR3 uses FSR 2.2 upscaling, but they even made it worse than before with newer updates lol. Maybe 3.1 will come to the game...
@@AncientGameplays It was shimmery, but after ~2.1 they did it so much worse, ghosting, lightning problems, just downgraded it

one thing i could say fsr 2.1 is still great for cyberpunk 2077 even on older gpu's and cpu's that cna use its frame gen since it gives around for me atleast with current drivers 500 600 fps max at all times with minor hitches
Cyberpunk has always been a glorified Nvidia tech demo, is anyone really surprised?
Do you use a custom fan curve for your 7900xt? If so, do you mind sharing the values?
Nope
hi ancient beast, i kindly ask of you if it possible you could try to make a test on lukez uniscale preview 7 (or latest) ? he has recently added two additions frame limit before frame gen , game specific fixes and xess 1.3 you could compare fsr 3 upscaler vs xess 1.3 upscaler with frame gen battle of course that is if you think worth making the video
I could do a video with some more tests, but since that's a mod, the comparisons wouldn't be really "real-world", but I will lay an eye on it!

Great analysis! I modded 1.3 into games I have that support XeSS (which at this point is just Cyberpunk, Witcher 3, and Ghostwire Tokyo) and I thought it did look a decent amount better than it did before, and generally better than FSR2. Always great to have more options. I think I might still like TSR better in Ghostwire Tokyo over XeSS, but honestly they're pretty close and I didn't play it too much.
I wish every game did the resolution slider that Starfield has, at least optionally. That and Cyberpunk's dynamic resolution using your upscaler of choice is so great if you're for sure GPU limited.
Anyway, looking forward to XeSS 1.3 being officially implemented into more games and excited to see how FSR 3.1 compares. I know there's some discourse online about how XeSS using updated input resoutions is "cheating" but they basically just tried to match performance with FSR/DLSS with their settings rather than input resolutions, and I think that's just fine. Now new users won't have to know that they should bump XeSS down a notch to match FSR2 performance, and if the result is a better looking image even with a lower input resolution who cares? That's even more impressive.
TSR, specially the versions in Unreal Engine 5 are VERY good, like the one in Fortnite and Robocop
Channel yang bagus, lanjutkan!
Thanks!
Xess 1.3 is kinda amazing . It gave me INSANE PERFORMANCE
Never used to have interest in upscaling but is often a must now and if the world wants to save at least some power probably needs to be. I haven't used the driver FSR for a while but I hope that doesn't get forgotten. FSR with user update seems a great idea but I hope AMD make it easy to get from the driver page with clear instructions. As far as XeSS goes all strength to Intel it's open source like AMD and anything that gives people options is good to me. As I have a 7900 xt if legally possible I'd love to see ROCM brought in driver as I think that' AMD's biggest problem it does stuff but the industry seems to often ignore it. Subscribed for a fair while now you always seem to do a balanced job and say the good and bad whatever manufacturer my old journalism lecturer in college would have liked you and believe me she could be fierce.

Is XMX available on the newer Intel's iGPU on Core Ultra (meteor Lake) ?
That would considerably extend the number of systems that would be able to access this feature.
I believe so
No it isn't there is no XMX, it comes for ARL-H
Tried xess 1.3 for Horizon Forbidden west at 1080p, it fixed bad Taa anti aliasing with better image quality than fsr, sadly there's still severe flickering around npc's on cutscenes which is distracting me so much, native is still the way to go for resolution this low i'm afraid
Just curious, where the LossLess Scaling app should fit in all of those options discussed?
nowhere at all. LS uses spatial upscaling which is basically DLSS1/FSR1 and even their frame gen tech is generally worse than AMD's AFMF
@@AncientGameplays yeah! I heard Lossless is comparable with FSR1, so it only benefits “at most” just games which not optimized for FSR (old games and/or old Gpus).
Yes again, AFMF is superior against lossless equivalent.
As I see DL2 was on FSR3.1 list, maybe tomorrow we will see it with new nightmare mode update
I wish
I tried xess 1.3 in Horizon FW with 6600xt, almost no performance boost with any xess preset, also at 1080p resolution even on max quality xess 1.3 looks like fxaa, a lot of shimmering everywhere - on grass, trees, hair, even on flat ground and walls, 1.2 was much better in image stability.
was recently trying out a new mmo and it definitely had shimmering issue with beard and shadows on face, or pixelated hair, and some ghosting on high contrast objects.. unreal engine 4 and the game only has fsr 2 {not sure what version} .. the issue persisted whether i upscaled from 1440 or ran in 4k, or with fsr off or on any of the settings.. now i'm thinking it was simply a taa issue made noticeable on a very Large tv.. never thought to turn taa setting to lowest, i'm almost 40 and "back in the day" AA was never a bad thing... wth have video games come to x__x
Some games have porr TAA implementations yes

I tried it XeSS 1.3 on Cyberpunk 2077 and it was looking absolutely beautiful but I was a bit disapointed by the 10-15 fps loss but when i returned back to Fsr3 mod the difference was very big in term of quality. It is really worth to lose 10-15 fps for the huge difference in image quality. I am very waiting for FSR 3.1 in these games.
You can use XeSS + FG mod though
@@AncientGameplays Yeah I didn't mentioned it but yeah i was using LukeFz mod so it's using the whole package FG mod + XeSS or Fsr 2.1, still bad with DLSS and not so good with Fsr, the Uniscaler mod.
WHAAAAT? I tried fsr3 mod in Cyberpunk - no shimmering, ghosting, screen artifacts. Maybe stop using fsr performance mode in 1080p or go check your eyes.
@@MacTavish9619 the mod has fuzziness around objects and NPC's when in movement, regardless of which upscaler you use. Afmf produces a more clear image and less artifacts when in motion than the mod.
in HFW, FSR has serious problems in the form of blurry loot icons while moving, and trails from enemy energy shields. XeSS has no such problems
Let's say I game on a 1080p monitor, but the TAA is not that great. Obviously upscaling at 1080p looks like crap, but what if I switch the internal resolution to 1440p, and then use upscaling quality (1080 base), the framerate difference isn't that much (see Daniel Owen's 4060 vs 4070 comparison), but how about the quality? is the upscaled 1080p to 1440p and then downscaled better than just native 1080p?
Short answer: yes, it's better
Longer answer: just try it. Few clicks in the driver and you are set
I guess DLAA (and equivalents) works the way you described, upscaling beyond native res. Also many people recommend dldsr, you can try googling that
Should look better yes
@@Osaka2407 I tried it on Cyberpunk.
FSR Quality fixes some of the instability BUT introduces more instability elsewhere, I'd say native is better, but at least the performance was the same as 1080p, about 65fps. XeSS 1.2 Quality fixes almost all the instability, but was soooooo slow, slower than just native 1440p, with lows in the 20s, unplayable.

i kinda laugh at how intel try's so hard with their upsacling yet they still fail at it while amd with their fsr is just a powerhouse for all gpu's and cpu's with giving you plus me around 200 to 300 fps within a game while xess get's around for when i teseted in cod mw3 i got around 109 to 150 fps max with horrible hitching and frame drops every second with horrible stutters as well
and by any chance ancient do via news or anything of a new driver update that could be coming soon from amd at some point?

@@samyt681 Its not amd fault when one modder can do nearly perfect implementation and big game companies can't. Also using upscaler in 1080p resolution is never a good idea. 1440p is minimum.
You definitely watched Digital Foundry video and then proceed to compare "xess 1.1 balanced" to "xess 1.3 balanced" which aren't the same f thing, why? it makes whole testing pretty much useless
And you didn't watch this one, otherwise you would know several scenarios are compared. Be better, watch before commenting
Also, i knew the resolution scaling way before DF video and I even have videos about it
why you dont compare just with fsr 3.0 ?? why you use 2.0, 2.1, etc? your are trying to cheat showing the bad it "was" ? you must show only the last version of fsr.
mate, this comment shows you didn't watch the video at all and on top of that you don't know what you're talking about.
Firstly I didn't use FSR 2.0. I used 2.1 & 2.2 which are the official implementations in those games (you can't change them like you do with XeSS and DLSS).
Also, I tested FSR3 with Starfield, BUT, FSR3 is basically FSR 2.2 + Frame Generation, so FSR"3" is still 2.2 in terms of upscaling. Listen to the video before making these dumb comments and trying to call me out on something that does not exist
Delete your stupid comment before you further embarass yourself lol
Fabio picaso back with another 🔥 video
Hahhaha
