Do judges examine every card in every deck in every vintage competition? I couldn't possibly imagine how many judges it would take to evaluate all decks for a reasonably large event, and ensure that every card is 100% authentic.
@@unclebanana In vintage they very well might, considering the price of all of the cards, but usually it's more of a risk that someone sees something wrong with your card, can ask to inspect it with impunity, and if they find any issues you can get disqualified immediately.
Or... He knows he's selling fake cards, and happily gives refunds to the 50% that catch him, while profiting on the 50% that do not catch him. This lets him retain his high positive feedback, and allows him to continue this way. He's a high end, very organized scammer. Just saying it's a possibility.

I purchased a Beta Ancestral Recall at a discount because the seller thought it was fake, because a professional dealer told him its a re-back, the seller got it ages ago as it is and played it in sleeves a lot. Well, i was able to authenticate it using light test, jewellers loupe, Unlimited Ancestral and Beta commons for comparison. Its water-damaged Beta and the water damage messed with the surface texture, but its legit and looks good in sleeves and i got it at around 60% price.

can we all take a minute to say the seller is a saint for refunding outside of the window in the middle of a huge recession? that speaks volumes about this man. it would have been so easy for him to walk away but he didn't.
1) We don't know that the seller actually refunded anything. First rule of scamming, if you get caught, play dumb. All we know is that the seller acted shocked that this could have happened and then sent the buyer off on a quest to prove it. If this wasn't such a distinct card the buyer may have just been hosed. 2) Even if money is refunded, this could just be a business expense for a career scammer. Most buyers will not ever discover the counterfeit, but some percentage will. By agreeing to refund the ones that catch it, the seller stays in good standing with the law and with the institutions he deals with, and maintains his feedback. It's just business. 3) A real saint would have taken better care of his customers by not selling counterfeit goods to begin with. With such an obvious fake the seller should have caught this before it ever ended up in a customer's hands. Buyer beware is a thing, but due diligence on the part of the seller is also part of any legitimate dealing. I couldn't help but notice that the condition of the card meant that it would never be sent to a grading house where the counterfeit would have been discovered.
@@wallydraigle5382 your right and im not sure if this card has a 'paper trail' but there are easy ways and specific programs to scan the internet to see if same card, since it has distinct features, has been bought and sold elsewhere. If it came up before his 10+ year ownership claim, he lied. Attempted fraud is still a crime and if it caught in an obvious paper trail lie, there may be action outside of unreliable ebay. Local city or state police report is first, likely nothing comes of it except you reported it, which other agencies may require, also IC3, USPS postal inspection under fraud schemes, and FTC site. If your just happy to get your money back, you might get it long before they do anything. Sadly those processes are exhausting and not always successful as these fraud artists may be using fake accounts and fake IPs and then some. The last one, a pair of shoes i never bought, I caught and called the store 3k miles away amd they cancelled order, refunded me and i cancelled card after refund, but reported to bank no more charges. When it comes to expensive items, the more money, the more they get inbolved. Also, like TCGplayer, the money should not be released until the item is received and approved and both sides are satisfied, why ebay would allow an option is absurd. Payment right away for lower priced is fine, but not for this. I hope that the buyer is legit, I had it happen where i gave a fake card i didnt catch, once, early on and never again, jewelers eye, digital scale, light, etc. So i never embarass myself or get ripped off. And that was a buylist for me as a beginner, so i can see novices doing it, but big sellers should NOT be making that lind of mistake. This is suspect, every value card, especially this kind, i put through a barrage of tests and often with a friend who has his own lgs and this card as soon as rudi showed it was obvious to both of us, i told him to watch this. So the seller is a risk either at not being honest (a fraud) and at best he doesnt know how to spot a fake with a value like this? Also send hi res photos of actual card, both sides are aware of every little detail, so no bait and switch from buyers. I cant even bother with ebay anymore, too many stories that end up like this. Who wants to go through the headache. Im lucky to have had the right people to help me see through most of these frauds. Buyers be patient and take time to ask for hi res scans, a business license and phone number, look them up, at least search google of image, show others, something. Like you said, due diligence, amen.
Ebay will auto take the money out of a seller's account if there is ANY discrepancy at all. I sold a switch, the guy complained about the controller, not even the system, and they forced me to give him a full refund, even after i put No refunds on my listing, and then even after i removed my paypal from ebay, they still got to my bank acct somehow and took back the 300 i transferred from paypal to my bank account due to the sell. Ebay will collect and the buyer doesnt even have to prove anything, he can just say its fake or whatever and ebay will not even require evidence. its ridiculous but helps buyers who get screwed i guess.
How much is an alpha Wheel? 3000 for a damaged one - even if it was real - seems a lil high. I paid 80 for my CE Wheel, and it was in near mint. This was one video I could pull mine out and follow along.
It's very concerning that a seller with a lot of and high feedback could be selling a reback like this?! Did the seller say the card had some warping? Really strange that someone would intentionally sabotage their account for a transaction like this, even if it was for a few thousand...odd.
Not sure its cool to put the original package, with the tracking info, up on the video. Makes it pretty easy to screw with either the sender or reciever.
One day there will be so many Collector's Edition copies that have been sacrificed to make fakes that the Collector's Edition versions will be rarer and more valuable than the Alpha/Beta.

Hey Rudy, I recently bought a 12 pack of tacos thinking they were floppy but they’re actually crunchy, can I send it to you for testing?
Rudy believes that if you let the crunchy sit out long enough it will become floppy from the taco soggy sog so don’t worry
Rudy's here for a public service, making floppy tacos hard.
