Rudy, I actually heard of MTG about a month ago and after buying a stack of cards from the antique store downtown, I learned to play and love it. Thank you for doing whatever you did to make your video show up in my recommended list. I never would have heard of this game if it wasn't for you. P.S. I'm pretty new to Magic (a few months in) and at first I really did not like the ancient cards and actually hated seeing them all the time. Now, after hours of watching Rudy, I'm in love with them and can start to feel the "magic" behind them and why they're so treasured. This is an awesome journey to be on!
That Mishra's Factory is pretty I am glad I am too young to have any nostalgic feelings towards these cards or I would never have any money and turn into Gollum
So upset every day over this situation. 20 years ago my mother had the opportunity to work for Wizards of the Coast as middle management. She turned it down for another job and we have been kicking ourselves every day since *weeps dramatically*
I had a friend, also now deceased, who used to work at WOTC in the early days. At first I thought this might be his collection, but it is not. His story of how he collected it was pretty interesting. Apparently, whenever someone would mail in a defective card to ask for a replacement, they'd just start opening packs until they found a replacement. All of the extra cards from those packs would then be plopped on a shelf in a stock room where they'd sit until the room got too full, at which point employees would take the overflow home. He had several complete sets of Legends that he acquired this way, for instance. I wouldn't be surprised if they were all still sitting in his basement, and his widow has no idea she's sitting on a gold mine.
@@karelmlady I wanted to, but it seems weird to call her after not talking to her for 7 years and say, "Hey, how's it going? Your husband's old Magic cards are worth a bundle if you haven't already sold them or thrown them out, so send them to this guy with hairy arms and a floppy taco." It now occurs to me that I could just tell one of her friends who I have kept up with to mention it to her, and by doing so to help her out without it being so awkward.
Ben Li-Sauerwine do both, tell the friend then follow up with the widow. If she is all weird about how long you’ve been out of contact, just tell her you were watching magic card videos, thought of her husband and realized maybe the old cards could help her out.
For every Beta Counterspell (the best counterspell ever printed) there are probably 50 to 100 Alliances Force of Wills. So I think the current price of $100 for a pretty easy to find card seems about right.
I’d be willing to send you my collection as well Rudy. It doesn’t have anything crazy I don’t think, but it has some dual lands from the original sets, tutors, and others. I have no idea it’s value, nor do I care to have it appraised. I just wanna put em in a good home. No payment necessary. I never had the heart to throw them out, but I played through most of the 90s up until the mid 2000s. If you’re interested, you could give me a buzz and I’d gladly send them your way.
Awesome vid. Kinda sucks though every time I watch these it makes me kick myself in the ass that I lost my cards in a storage unit years ago. Wish I just could go through them and see what I had. I know there were some great cards. ☹
Awesome collection Rudy, mad props for not selling from those who are no longer with us, I have the same policy, I've inherited a couple collections. Nothing vintage though.
And those cards never saw the light of day again as they disappeared into Rudy's basement dwelling where all reserved list magic cards go to be locked away.
rudy, where do you get your information on print runs of newer sets? and also, where do you get your information on print quantities on the older stuff, like alpha and beta?

Is they worth anything I got a big collection for sell
Was i the only person who thought Rudy was gonna wheel out a box of ultimate masters at 6.40?
Lovely purchase Rudy and I’m glad you’re holding on to them for posterity - oh I hate flippers but you’re doing the right thing
Can't exactly say he's holding onto them for posterity when he has the word "investments" in the name of his channel.
Awesome collection! You must have enough to start an entire museum at this point🤩

Go peep the rarities on his eBay like the 50 sets of Arabian Nights for 2 million

Man, a workshop and a bazaar just... out like that. I would not touch without gloves + immediate double/triple sleeves to be safe.
Beautiful artwork. I wish i had collected as a kid, but by that time cards were starting to go way up.....
is it safe to say that alpha investments is now the biggest brand associated with magic the gathering?
Probably not the biggest but maybe the most Brand Recognition within the community.
The best brand associated with MtG.
The sexiest brand
the hairiest brand
buschleaguers75 no not even top 3
That CE set is god damn beautiful. Granted they're not tournament playable, that is a great piece of Magic history.
Why is this in my stream. Why cant I stop watching it. I never played and know nothing still very interesting.
Good time to get into it
Jump in..magic arena is a good place to start if you have a PC...I think it's available on mobile now too
All those cards brought back the memories of starting to play MTG. Thanks for sharing Rudy!
LOVE the D2 boxes in the corner of the shot. Awesome game that my dad and I both play, besides Magic
It amazes me how expensive old lands are!!

if oubliette gets reprinted it will be in white. Its a color pie break.
so out of curiosity, why don't you sell reserve list cards?
What's the price for the whole album?
