Rudy, I actually heard of MTG about a month ago and after buying a stack of cards from the antique store downtown, I learned to play and love it. Thank you for doing whatever you did to make your video show up in my recommended list. I never would have heard of this game if it wasn't for you.

Man, a workshop and a bazaar just... out like that. I would not touch without gloves + immediate double/triple sleeves to be safe.
I had a friend, also now deceased, who used to work at WOTC in the early days. At first I thought this might be his collection, but it is not. His story of how he collected it was pretty interesting. Apparently, whenever someone would mail in a defective card to ask for a replacement, they'd just start opening packs until they found a replacement. All of the extra cards from those packs would then be plopped on a shelf in a stock room where they'd sit until the room got too full, at which point employees would take the overflow home. He had several complete sets of Legends that he acquired this way, for instance. I wouldn't be surprised if they were all still sitting in his basement, and his widow has no idea she's sitting on a gold mine.

@@karelmlady I wanted to, but it seems weird to call her after not talking to her for 7 years and say, "Hey, how's it going? Your husband's old Magic cards are worth a bundle if you haven't already sold them or thrown them out, so send them to this guy with hairy arms and a floppy taco." It now occurs to me that I could just tell one of her friends who I have kept up with to mention it to her, and by doing so to help her out without it being so awkward.
Ben Li-Sauerwine do both, tell the friend then follow up with the widow. If she is all weird about how long you’ve been out of contact, just tell her you were watching magic card videos, thought of her husband and realized maybe the old cards could help her out.
That Mishra's Factory is pretty I am glad I am too young to have any nostalgic feelings towards these cards or I would never have any money and turn into Gollum

So upset every day over this situation. 20 years ago my mother had the opportunity to work for Wizards of the Coast as middle management. She turned it down for another job and we have been kicking ourselves every day since *weeps dramatically*

I'm pretty new to Magic (a few months in) and at first I really did not like the ancient cards and actually hated seeing them all the time. Now, after hours of watching Rudy, I'm in love with them and can start to feel the "magic" behind them and why they're so treasured. This is an awesome journey to be on!

I have a full set of alpha like clipped duals for my edh deck. Gorgeous.
For every Beta Counterspell (the best counterspell ever printed) there are probably 50 to 100 Alliances Force of Wills. So I think the current price of $100 for a pretty easy to find card seems about right.

I’d be willing to send you my collection as well Rudy. It doesn’t have anything crazy I don’t think, but it has some dual lands from the original sets, tutors, and others. I have no idea it’s value, nor do I care to have it appraised. I just wanna put em in a good home. No payment necessary. I never had the heart to throw them out, but I played through most of the 90s up until the mid 2000s. If you’re interested, you could give me a buzz and I’d gladly send them your way.

What if you would play with collectors edition cards in sleeves?
Totally fine in sleeves! I'ts handling them without sleeves kills the gold border and the corners loose the pointyness quickly that way.

collector edition was sold itself as a full set (including the power 9), and those cards may not be used in certain tournament i think. still, i think the full set is in the range of 15k-20k

The collectors edition / International edition sets are around 7-10K USD depending on being sealed or NM opened. I would expect Rudy paid about 3500-4500 for the complete set minus the box though. Everyone knows he buys collections, and he is in it for big returns. He has worked his ass off to get that kind of status, so its all fair game in my opinion!
