Seeing this car driving on the streets with other cars as opposed to at a car show is like seeing a Lion in the jungle (it's natural habitat) and not in the zoo.
Hi Chris Biondi, Well said. Lou
This is not a car.
It's art.
Well said.
Let's be honest, the car is ugly as shit....
@@neale.kaufman5168 Not a fan?Are your eyes broken?
TheNokturnalTimes pretty fast art
Neal E. Kaufman lets be honest... your just jealous that you don’t have a daytona
What a car! And to think that dealers had a difficult time selling them.
You have great taste in cars :-) Yep, really interest in buying something that's not a family car...However, that's Ok, there are plenty of family cars out there, however they probably will not show up on the Channel :-)
People hated the way they looked back then, but it is arguably one of the sexiest cars ever
I looked it up and back than they saw the spoiler as super tachy and ricey when it first came out plus it was werid at the time to sell a car like this. not many genuinely race based cars sold for the street like this one. but also man it was different than, we have the internet and millions of recourses to find out about these cars, back than you probably didn't know till you saw the big wing or stories, thats it.
There are just no cars like MoPaRs, the true #1 original all American badass, period....
there are plenty of awesome cars 1969 trans am,70 cuda,amx,70 nova ss,69 mustang,68 hemi dart,69 302 dz ,69 road runner,70 1/2 z28,challenger,falcon,superbee the list is endless and has no one car that is miles better than any other.they are all awesome in their own way.
Me too, Tom should set-up a UA-cam channel and a dash came plus rear window cam and make 5 minute clips for cruising around and maybe pulling on the highway to show how fast it hit 60 mph .
High praise :-)
Thanks Lou, keep the Mopars coming.
As I see good ones, I will keep them coming :-) Lou
No problem tone
What an awesome blast from the past! This is the car that set the first 200 mile per hour lap in NASCAR and forced them to change the rules so that the rest of the auto world could keep up. The owner is just a super cool guy. He's a big kid with his million dollar toy our hot rodding around. If I had the money to own one it WOULD NOT be locked up in some show room or storage. It would be on the road, a rolling automotive history lesson, a work of art, for everyone to see. Great job Lou!
Hi Brad Johnson, Thank you for viewing and sharing what you enjoy from this video. Appreciate the kind words on the video, Lou
:32 - he said four speed Hemi Cuda... ummm noooo I'm pretty sure it's a Hemi DODGE DAYTONA...
I start with Daytona and you're right, they said Cuda. Let me show you why I have Cuda's on the brain just before we took a ride, enjoy, Lou ua-cam.com/video/FJxae7IKeZY/v-deo.html
I'd be scared to death someone would crash into to me. I can just see some punk in a Honda Civic T-bone that beautiful Dodge. I believe I'd limit my driving in the city to a minimum
What a great car, it lights em up with just a touch of the gas pedal. I had a 72 GTX that would do the same. I actually heard it bark 3rd gear on a few occasions. Not bad for an automatic.
Rick Taylor yeah really. some illegal immigrants in a hoopdee 86 Honda civic with $3000 wheels
yep, I said Cuda - however I was here just before videoing the car, so I have Cuda on the brain, enjoy, Lou ua-cam.com/video/FJxae7IKeZY/v-deo.html
There is a Cuda from 1970 I believe that looks identical to the Hemi
I'm a mopar guy so I love these collab videos you do with Tom especially the ride alongs. This guy has a serious mopar collection.
Yes, he's a BLAST to hang out with, Lou
Lou Costabile I bet, check out my channel and our mopars sometime.
You've nice Dusters on there.
Thanks Lou
The most beautiful car I've seen in my life

wow. just wow. i rarely see one of these actually driving.. just sitting in showrooms.
That is true. So much fun to get this one rolling :-) Lou
had a couple 68's when i was a kid. one had a slant 6 stock, and the other one had a '73 440ci police engine swap. both autos. still was slow i guess, compared to my modern lighter 300hp-ish cars tho..
Those are fun cars and I'm sure provided wonderful memories, Lou
WOW!! is all I can say Lou what a treat!!
Hi ckelley63, Glad you enjoyed this one :-) Me too, Lou
Wow! Beautiful mopar! Kudos to the owner for actually driving the car thru heavy traffic!
Hi Simon, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you. Agreed, awesome that Tom takes them out. I think you'll enjoy this video too. Enjoy, Lou ua-cam.com/video/CFv975B9r1A/v-deo.html
Thank you for viewing and sharing.
Wow , I was raised on the street . I went to that school on southport from 1966 to 1970. You guys pulled over in front of my house on southport. This was great . Car and all. Thanks
Hi lkmsl, Happy to read the background is familiar to you :-) Lou
BEST CAR EVER ! HELLO FROM RUSSIA!
Hi Russia! I love this car too :-) Lou
That was excellent! My blood pressure sky rocketed just watching that video. I LOVE those Winged Warriors! I have a Superbird wing in my shop, now to find the rest of the car. It wouldn't look right on my 68 Charger. Thanks Lou and thank you Tom! That was my neck of the woods back in the 60's and 70's. Thanks again!
Let me know when you bring that out to British Colombia. I'm living in Seattle area now and would love to meet you and see that awesome ride! Chris
Hi Chris, Glad you enjoyed the video as much as we enjoyed doing the video. There is a car show you can attend in November called the Muscle Car and Corvette National www.mcacn.com in Rosemont IL (OHare Airport & plenty of Hotels in the area) that is the best muscle car show in the planet. Last year the car was there. Hope to see you too, Lou
THIS DAYTONA IS MY ULTIMATE DREAM MOPAR!!!!!! It's black w/white rump stripe and a Hemi!!!!!!!!!
Happy to read this car is a Winner for you :-)
Fun video ! Thanks Lou and Tom!!
Big boy acting like little boys :-)
What a Beauty!!! I hope to see it at some Chicago Area Car Shows.
+irishpat64 Hoping to see it again at the Muscle Car & Corvette National in Rosemont in November. Thanks for watching, Lou
Do you know how i could get a 69 daytona? I have had this car labeled my “dream car” for a while and want to know if there is still a chance i can get one in a few years since im still in HS i truly love this beauty
Hi Anamosa Blue Raider Marching band Fan!, Well the way I received my "Dream car" was to stay focused, keep working, saving, and make solid investments, keep myself out of wasteful trouble which could cost me money, and 20 years after I saw my "dream car" I owned it. Hope some of my knowledge helps you. Hope you're behind the wheel of your "dream car" soon, Lou
Seeing that Daytona on the street what a treat, thanks Tom and Lou!
Hi ddmd80, So much fun to video and share. Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for commenting, Lou
My first car was a 383 '69 Roadrunner with a 4:10 rear, 4 speed with the console just like the one in the video. I loved the look of the console and that long curved Hurst shifter but I remember the shifter was not all that tight . Regardless a bad ass ride and a lot of fun. My first "should have kept it" car! Sold it around 1986 for $2000 with under 60,000 miles. I worked in a plating shop and had the grill anodized gold and the emblems plated with solid gold. It looked pretty sharp with the black lacquer paint job. I would hazard a guess there's never been another with that color scheme.
Hi roadworrier11, Happy to read this one brings back memories of your 1st car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
First off - BEAUTIFUL & badass Daytona. Secondly - I would NEVER take a car like that for a ride through a city like Chicago, or any other big city! And you are right - nobody there would care if you were driving a Honda Elefent, or a Hemicuda convertible with 3 miles on the odometer, much less a Hemi Daytona. Neither would anybody in my neighborhood - sign of the times. A neighbor would more likely come over to check out a new Soul than a car like a Daytona. (I think the Daytona would generate comments like "what an idiot" or "look at that circus wagon" in my neighborhood). Most people are dead on their feet anymore. What a shame.
Hi Eric S, I agree Chicago is not the best place to drive the car, that said I also agree one bad Daytona! Thanks for viewing and commenting, Lou
I could watch videos of a car like this just going around town all day.
Hi jjs777fzr, That's great to read! Then I have two more for you, enjoy, Lou ua-cam.com/video/Lfu-YtUnqSM/v-deo.html & ua-cam.com/video/1cTLyPBZG9g/v-deo.html
Living in England, muscle cars are very rare, I’ve only ever seen 1 in my whole life on the road so videos like these are so cool for me

Even if I rode in the back seat of this legend. You would have to rip me out of it. I would never want to leave this slice of Heaven.
Amen :-)
A beautiful machine!! love it. I wouldn't want to be driving it through Chicago tho but it isn't my car sooo lol...

Excellent and thanks for posting your video(s)! Love those Dodge & Plymouth Wing Cars!
I love the Wing Cars too. Thanks for viewing and commenting, Lou
Thanks for the ride.
Glad you viewed and came along for the ride :-)
Correct me if am wrong. I heard stories about 1969 dodge charger daytona hemi cars were notorious for overheating in trafffic. But still a very beautiful car and this car is special. I like it for the fact that its a hemi car and not only that these cars were homologation cars that required to meet a certain number of cars had to be built and sold in order for the 1969 dodge charger daytona race cars to be allowed to compete and race in nascar.
Per Tom, I've never been in any heavy traffic with it. But I'm going to find out soon enough on the road rally September 6
It's a very sweet car but Richard petty cried because the hemi couldn't hold a candle to the sohc Ford lol
Thats an insane car holy i love it
Hi skrrr skrrr, Happy to read you "love it" :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing and I believe you're going to see many more cars on this Channel you'll enjoy. Hope you Subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this UA-cam Channel, Lou
Love the color on this one all of the ones with 440's in them are cool as hell but it's something about that 426 Hemi in one of these that just gives it that true Mystique in my opinion. 🤷🏽♂️
Hi Ramses, High praise for this car :-) Lou
@@loucostabile 👨🏽🦱👍🏽
Smart man to not ride the clutch . Too many new drivers with a manual stick will rest their foot on the pedal waiting the go into 1st at a red light when it turns green .
Holding the pedal down at idle is also bad because it wears out the Throw Bearing which is usually under load for a few seconds at a time.
Back around 1972 a friend of mine spent time near LA in the Summer vist the grandmother. He told me about the Hemi's at the drag strips and how he saw a 1970 Hemi cuda on the street that was doing about 30 and when the driver floored it the tires broke traction .
Hi Gary wood, Nice story about your Friend :-) That sounds right to me, Lou
that being said after owning three roadrunners a 69 Super Bee and a 69 sport satellite I can only drool over this Hemi car... the closest I ever got was my uncle driving one to my Grandpa's funeral in 1972 when I was 10, and it was the first ride I ever got in a Hemi 4-speed and it is something I will never forget... it was green with a white wing and it said Daytona on the side and it was beyond killer
Sounds like a GREAT car. Thanks for sharing your story, Lou
+Lou Costabile my uncle bought it new in late 1970, the dealers used to have a rhyme about Charger Daytona's and Superbirds, it went something like, "get the thing with the wing off my lot." Apparently they weren't very popular cars in 69 and 70, and it took a long time for people to discover just how special these cars were... so my uncle bought it for a song, from a Dodge dealer out in California...and at my grandfather's funeral in 72, the car only had about six thousand miles on it, so it was damn near Factory fresh! Thanks for your response, it really was an amazing ride... sadly my uncle and the car are both long gone, but the memories are terrific...
Those memories always stay with you :-) Good story, Lou
Dude seems like a cool guy amazing cars
Win / Win :-)
This is a great guy to drive that thing around Chicago. That car could easily pull a million dollars.
Hi Scott Bivins, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and glad I could share the ride with you :-) Lou
Wow. Stunning ultra rare car.

Thanks. I spent more than several times driving around Chicago on days like this visiting my Daughter/ Grandaughters In Wrigleyville....Interestingly this would be a little more fun in Montana, where we just relocated to (East Helena), though some areas have Some Speed signs for “speed Limits”.......:)........
Hi Opera, Yes, Montana sounds like a wonderful place for a ride :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Lou Costabile actually, Montana May not be “no posted speed Limits anymore”: though I have had a Ferrari pass me safely @ Autobahn speeds:These Daytona’s / SUPERBIRDS need to stretch in OPEN BIG SKY COUNTRY; and Montana May have a few Classic Cars hidden away...........
That was fun to watch though nerve racking. I live near Chicago and am downtown a lot and the traffic is maddening! I'd be scared stiff to drive that wonderful rare car down there!
You're correct on the traffic. So glad the video did not go in the wrong direction, and I would have to title it "Rare Hemi Superbird crash LIVE" :-) Bottom line, Tom and I glad to share his Rare Car on video with you. Thank you for viewing & commenting, Lou
I'm mindblown... One of my dream mopars. I'd be lucky enough to just get a ride in a daytona...
Then you're going to like this one too :-) Lou ua-cam.com/video/JmnLzjQZTHw/v-deo.html
+Lou Costabile Thanks for the link.
C'mon Lou that must of been one of your favorite car moments ever!!
Hi Barry Snider, I'm definitely excited when I see / ride in a Hemi car :-) It's fun every time for sure! Lou
Ive seen two of these cruising in the valley I believe one was a daytona and the other a superbird. They looked mint.
Thank you for sharing ChichanSVT :-) Here is a video I think you'll enjoy! Lou ua-cam.com/video/XemBZn5aQUk/v-deo.html
I thought there were Mr. Submarine locations in Chicago.
Hmmm, been awhile since I've seen one.
Autobahn ready ! :D
Hi gerard cousineau, Much better choice than the City Tom and I have selected :-) Lou
200 M.P.H. :D
What a car!
Glad you enjoyed this one :-)
loves his cars,does this guy.
Yes he does :-)
Love those Hemi '69 Daytona's, A real masterpiece there, But I lean towards the '70 Superbird, And you've had some nice videos of those as well.
Hi JayDogTitan 1464, You have great taste in cars :-) Lou
U guys are having way too much fun. I hate the new chargers they look nothing like the old ones, it really is shame but the new challengers looks like the old ones. My sister just bought one and I am rebuilding my 1970 Oldsmobile with a 455. I always loved dodge muscle cars. Thanks for the awesome video.
We are having way too much fun. I agree with you the late 1960's & early 1970's Chargers do have a great look, I agree. I hope your 1970 Olds 455 comes out looking great. Thank you for viewing and sharing such a wonderful comment, Lou
My dream car in my early teen days.
+MrGeeMan1980 You have GREAT taste! Take care Lou
+Lou Costabile: At the 3:00 mark, two of Chrysler's most iconic vehicles in the picture, the Dodge Caravan minivan and muscle car classic Daytona Charger. Fine job Lou.
+MrGeeMan1980 That's true, however it's so much fun in the 2nd one. Thanks for sharing. Take care, Lou
+Lou Costabile : Can't argue with that.
wow 4 speed now were talken ...!!! id be scared to death to drive that in the city ...
Hi Seven of NINE, Glad to read you're enjoying this car :-) You're right, you have to be careful in the city, Lou
Thanx man, hell yeah, Mopar or no car (or truck.) I love my Hemi Ram
+Slac adjuster Nice truck! Lou
+Lou Costabile You bet. Thank you! A 2015 Rumble Bee edition.
Beautiful piece of machinery! But what confuses me...was it possible to get the Hemi Daytona without tachometer? Sounds crazy.
Agreed on the car is beautiful. Not sure on the Tach ? Maybe the Viewers can help on that one, Lou
Tachs out the windshield on the end of hood.
There were very few made and the ones made were never really made to be or expected to be street drivers. They were made to be turned into race cars, nascar oval racing which is what the wing and nose were all about. They would be putting a real race tach and a lot more on it.
No those are aero feaures, not like a GTO hood tach.
Lou, originally, the tach was to the left of the speedometer. I was the original owner of this particular car.
Do they have any highways in Chicago? Why not get out there? Driving around city streets is quite unimpressive.
Hi Rick Allen, Of course they have highways in Chicago. Did not have time, so you do what you can do. Hope that helps answer your question. Thank you for viewing and I hope you see many more videos you enjoy, Lou
Interestingly, I drove many years around Chicago visiting Daughter in Wrigleyville ( W Cornelia).....frankly, need to drive that around Montana ( Helena area) ; not in Winter ....... Anyways fun times... We do miss Lakeshore, Cubs, and Art Institute , ETC....& Friends.interesringly, spent to much time in Southport Traffic.......:(
Hi Opera, Sounds like fun rides with your Daughter :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
That is such a lovely car
Hi Duck, Glad you enjoyed this video / car. Me too! Lou
bad ass Daytona ,and the guy doing the video calls it a cuda and the driver never said a word.🤦♂️
Hi Mike, Well I just came from here (see video link) and yes I called it a Cuda when we all know it's a Daytona. Enjoy, Lou ua-cam.com/video/FJxae7IKeZY/v-deo.html

you didn't check tire pressures on that caliber of car? how's the oil level? coolant level?

hey lou can you make a video on people's reaction to classic muscle car? i think that's a good car content on youtube, most car spotter/youtuber are focus on modern supercars
Hi, I like your idea and if I'm riding in a classic I see if we get some "instant" reactions. Lou
Incredible car! Cars just get much rarer than this one. In my lifetime, I only ever saw one in someones garage.
The trouble is these cars are worth so much now, only the super wealthy can afford them.
Plus, being worth so much it becomes nerve racking just to drive them on public roads.
Kudos to the folks that do. These cars were meant to be driven.
Hi Kevin Scribner, Glad you enjoy this "incredible car" :-) I like this one too, Lou
The Daytona is arguably better than the Superbird in a sense, that it's more functional vs. Superbird being more styling oriented. I mean, the Daytona's functionality accounts only for 2mph extra at the top speed, but hey, if the nose cone and the wing are for a reason, why not have it perfect. Of course, nobody is going to drive the Daytona at 200mph on street tires. However, at around 120mph, the aero features might be working already, making the car not only more planted to the road, but also giving it some directional stability. That's what the wing's height is for, the directional stability. One thing I don't understand though is the purpose of a burnout. If it really were to warm tires, maybe it would be fine. But can warm up tires more gradually by driving car a little bit. I mean, a burnout puts unnecessary abuse on the clutch mounts and the drive train, unless the clutch mounts are so strong on the Daytona, that it doesn't really matter. I prefer the American cars to the European, however, it seems that the owners of the European exotics seem to be more considerate of their equipment, making the car warm up properly before making it fully breathe. The rather crude handling of this beautiful Daytona make me feel as the value of the car drops down considerably with every single burn-out done.
Hi Andrew, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you enjoy. Please subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this UA-cam Channel, Lou
@@loucostabile Sure, the cars are fantastic on this channel. I don't think there's anything that can best Dodge Daytona. However, the juvenile behavior of grown men on public streets can be a concern. I am glad nobody was hurt in the process of abusing the Daytona's clutch and drivetrain through burnouts. My suggestion is, grow up, or if you insist on juvenile behavior, go to a racetrack or drag strip.
dream car right here

I believe it was in 1969 that the Daytona won the Talladega while the FORD Talladega won the Daytona 500 . Dodge ran the Charger 500 in the Daytona but didn't have that lower drag that the FORD had....then they ran the Superbird in 1970 with Pete Hamilton at the wheel for the Win that day .
Hi Gary, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
If I got the chance to be in a Hemi Daytona I might have called it a Rambler due to being so excited.
THAT"S SO FUNNY, Thanks for taking my mistake (calling the Daytona a Cuda) and making me laugh. I was distracted because moments before jumping in the Daytona, I was here, enjoy, Lou ua-cam.com/video/FJxae7IKeZY/v-deo.html

Why do you keep driving these cars stop and go around the city? Take them out on the freeway and wind 'em out they way they were intended to be used.
Hi Edward Cullen, The time frame to video was available when and where you can. Sure it would have been nice to take the car to the freeway, however we had just enough time for a City cruise. So when it comes down to City cruise video or no video, I decided to share the City ride with you, Lou
