On "My Car Story" we're at the Carlisle Events in Carlisle PA on 7-15-22.
We're looking at a 1969 Plymouth GTX in Black Velvet Paint. The car comes with the 426 CI “Hemi” V8 engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Carl Blake. Carl’s had this car since 2022. He shares he had some “fear” purchasing this car because it was different than most cars he’s owned. But after his first “big car show” and seeing the reaction, he’s VERY HAPPY with this car!

Your welcome Lou.
Lou first off what a nice man and amazing daughter who would go with her dad to over 100 cruise ins. I'm happy for him that they had this modification so he can drive left footed. Could he also be lead footed??? Also he is fortunate to have an understanding wife who he acknowledges during your interview.
I really liked the factory chromes that came on the 68 and 69's. He wanted the sinister bad look and he definitely attained it. Lou as much as the cars are central to your program the human interest story is equally compelling. This Car Story is a perfect example.
Great Episode!!
Hi Bill, I agree, Dad & Daughter enjoying their time together is GREAT! High praise for this episode :-) Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
A black Mopar with the legendary HEMI!! Killer muscle car!
Happy to read "Killer muscle car!" :-)
A friend of mine had one of these, he had bought it in 1973 and it was a very, very powerful automobile. 4 of the lugs busted off on one street race against a Mustang Boss. Every one was a winner at that race and we all had a fun time. Eventually he added a merc bar and some traction bars, they helped but it would still bust or crack the lug studs every now an again.
Thanks for showing us this one, wowies,
Hi Jon C, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Friends car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Hi, Lou. I am crying. Crying happy because another HEMI car has been saved and crying because I had one,as you may remember and its long gone..........As we all noticed, it was a little tough to start. HEMI engines do NOT like to go slow or idle !!......Mr. Blake, first, thank you for sharing your beautiful HEMI with us. Second, although you spent big money for this car, you have been charged by the gods to nurture and take care of this car. All the best to you ! Thank you,Lou, for another great video.
Hi Charlie Christie, Happy to read tears of joy :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you. You're welcome, Lou
I built the AMT 69 Hemi GTX Convertible kit 30 plus years ago . I still have the build!!
Happy to read you have a cool model of this car :-) NICE !
Nothing better than tx9.... glad to see his daughter involved... awesome car
Hi Bruce, Happy to read you enjoy this "awesome car" :-) Lou
Gorgeous GeTX!!.. love the no nonsense steelies!!
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
King Kong!!.. The mighty 426 Hemi in all her glory!!
NICE !
Thanks for the memories Lou.
I remember being 6 years old in 69 and when the only GTX in the neighborhood was this cars sister from Mr. Norms.I also remember it was the car most of the older guys with beautiful muscle cars themselves all appreciated when it showed up on any occasion.
Hi Maris, Happy to read this car brings back memories of the GTX in your neighborhood :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
The 69 gtx has one of the best looking rear views. The whole tail just blends together perfectly.
Totally agree!
Happy to read you enjoy the design of this car :-)
I have three things to say:
1. Let that girl drive! 😀
2. Black Hemi B bodies are my favorite.
3. I love you're videos. You are always respectful of the owner's pride and joy. I get the impression there isn't a car you don't like, Lou.
Hi GLHS592, 1. I'm sure I'll have her on a future episode :-) 2) NICE! 3) Appreciate the kind words, and if you see it on the Channel, I have an interest in the car. My pleasure sharing with you, Lou
Awww come on Dad, let Brooke drive that beast!!! 😂
Now that is a very cool car for sure, the "gentleman's hot rod"!!! I Love everything about that car and it looks down right evil in "Black Velvet", I would name the car "Velvet Elvis"!!!
The little badge on the trunk lid says all that needs to be said, HEMI !!!
Fantastic car!!!
Last but not least, Carl, thank you for your sacrifice and service Sir!!! People like you are the reason we are free to enjoy our lives here in the USA and get to do the things we Love like drive our hot rods!!! 👍👍👍
Hi HobieMarty, Happy to read you enjoy this "Fantastic car!!!". I'm sure I'll be videoing Brooke in a future episode :-) Lou
Trunk so clean you could feed a family of four from it! OH YEAH! Killer Kewl Machine! I can picture him cruising around in this on Halloween night wearing full hooded black robes and a tactical skull mask! Just floatin' some ideas. Probably a good idea for any Halloween Car Shows as well I might add. Plant some dry ice buckets hidden underneath it - for a dark sinister fog vibe. Gotta love this machine for sure!!!
Hi ImTheDaveman, Happy to read this one is "Killer Kewl Machine!" :-) NICE! Thanks for sharing some Halloween tips too! Lou
Black Beauty! These were the absolute "butt-kickers" when I was a kid.
Hi Dave F., Thank you for sharing :-) Lou
If it says sinister, Hemi and Plymouth in the title you have my attention.
Nice :-)
Very nice GTX - I think these are grossly under appreciated. This is a beautiful example.
Thanks for bringing it to us Lou!
Hi Jeff, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this GTX :-) My pleasure sharing with you. I appreciate your support. You're welcome, Lou

Hi David, Happy to read you enjoy this "Awesome GTX" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Beautiful example of a 1969 Plymouth GTX Hemi
Hi Robert, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
When equipped with a Hemi, the Torqueflite 727 automatics had extra clutches and specials bands inside the transmissions.
Thanks for another great video!
Hi Automated Electronics, Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Appreciate the kind words on the video. My pleasure sharing with you, Lou
Some 440 HPs had that beefed-up trans, as well.
The ultimate muscle car. What a treat to see this. Thanks guys!
Hi Bruce H., Happy to read you enjoy this treat :-) You're welcome, Lou
Thanks for the video on the 1969 Plymouth 426 Hemi. It looks great and sounds powerful mean! Congratulations to the owner. This Hemi classic is the king in town and ready for a long freeway ride!
Hi Juan, Happy to read you enjoy this mean machine :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
Gorgeous GTX ! Sinister Indeed... Thanks Lou !
Hi Rudy, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
That's one clean GTX! You can tell all of Mr. Blake's tinkering is a labor of love and it sure runs fast and smooth, too. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to share this "clean GTX!" with you :-) You're welcome, Lou
Nice sinister car, maybe Brooke will finally get to drive it someday. Good video Lou and thanks!
Hi Gary, Happy to read you enjoy this "Nice sinister car". Oh, I'm sure I'll be doing an episode with Brooke before long :-) You're welcome, Lou
That’s nice Lou iconic car of its time and still popular
Hi el wrencho, Happy to share this one with you :-) Lou
Goodday Lou,
Favorite part of the week, Sunday morning in bed catching up on UA-cam.
I think sinister is such an understatement. This would be the car the FBI would order for high speed pursuit & doing stake out in the dark.
What a great family affair having your daughter tag along to the car shows with the dad.
Never get tired of seeing the beautiful background scenery of America.
Nothing tougher than the top dog Hemi prowling the street.
Great it has been restored to its previous glory to be admired by all.
Your number 1 Fan in Australia
Louis Kats from Melbourne Australia ☺ 👍 ❤
Goodday Louis, Happy to read you're getting the chance to catch up on UA-cam :-) Glad to read the details you notice. Thank you for being my # 1 Fan in Australia, Lou
Absolutely stunning car. That's my dream car along with a 70 442 olds.
Hi Fred, High praise for the looks of this car :-) Lou
Carl, thank you for your service and for sharing your car.
Well said :-)
A great looking car! I never knew much about Plymouths, outside of Leave it to Beaver (Ward drove a Ford and then Plymouths), But I didn’t know what I was missing!
Hi Brock, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Glad to read you're enjoying learning about them too. I'm learning from the Care Takers all the time, Lou
Another stunning and absolutely gorgeous Plymouth muscle here!;-) That's a bad to the bone car. I totally love the black look. Incredible car... I read a lot of original test drive articles in magazines such as Hot Rod, Motor Trend etc. about a '68 or a 69 GTX. Great on the street as same as on the drag strip. Plymouth GTX was always a muscle car for gentlemen and with the 426 Hemi it was a top machine. In the late '60s it was one of the fastest production American cars. Perfect My car Story episode, Lou!
Hi Plymouth Die-Cast Replicas, "Perfect My car Story episode" High praise :-) Thank you, Lou
BAD-ASS IN BLACK with a HEMI?! ENOUGH SAID!! Thanks for posting Lou!! 🥳👍🏾🔥😎🤟🏾😆🙏🏾🤴🏾
Nice Gmoney :-) You're welcome.
Sinister is an understatement, Lou! Thanks posting yet another excellent Mopar video and what a car that '69 Hemi GTX is!
Hi JackFlemingFan, Happy to read you enjoy this one :-) You're welcome, Lou
NICE! Many moons ago, I had a friend with a very similar GTX with side pipes. That was probably the fastest I have been in any car!
Hi Cmdr Darwin, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Friends side pipe car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Great car. Very well done. You really never see those at most shows. Thanks Lou.
Hi Greg, Happy to read you enjoy this "Great car" :-) Lou
Lou, thanks for the show, I had a 1967 GTX hemi 4 speed, the GTX is my favorite Mopars, cheers.
Hi Eric, Happy to read you had a cool car :-) You're welcome. Cheers, Lou
Beauty - nice looking GTX - black paint needs a lot of attention in the body shop to look that good!
Hi RCFred_68, Happy to read you appreciate the paint on this car :-) Lou
Crazy Great !!!
'round about this time ('68 ) a shopping mall in Ca called Serramonte opened.
Besides this leading me to Black Sabbath's st, there was a car show the first year.
My mom took me. Sure, Mustangs, Corvettes,,,,all the new offerings.
All i remember vividly is a black GTX, much like this here.
Lucky so and so :)
Hi Glen, Happy to read this car brings back memories :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
What a beast, gorgeous car.
Looks great with those redline tires matiching the red trim.
Hi sulpher, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this "Beast" :-) Lou
Absolutely beautiful! And it has the legendary 426 Hemi.
High praise :-)
Saludos cordiales!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read you're enjoying the way I share the cars :-) Glad to read you enjoy the looks of this "Sinister" car, Lou
Whoa!! Had to share this with my brother. He has one he's restoring.. that car is just so cool!!
Hi Debbie, Happy to receive a "Whoa!!" from you :-) Hope your Brothers car comes out the way he's hoping for, Lou

Hi Wayne, Happy to read you enjoy this "AWESOME CAR!!!" :-) Lou
That car is sure sinister a 426 hemi icing on the cake very clean mean machine
Hi Larry, Happy to read your thoughts on this "very clean mean machine" :-) Lou
Beautiful GTX! I’m building a ‘68 GTX. You could either get the clock or the tachometer. Both optional. Also was an oil pressure gauge in that same spot for the police package.
Hi drippingglass, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this GTX :-) Hmmm, regarding that 68 GTX....stay tuned :-) Lou
ahh the sound of solid lifters...the 70 Hemi's came with hydraulic lifters.
Hi Bill, :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
The Gtx is Gorgeous and beautiful.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Great car and story....thanks Lou PS: Love the wheels without hubcaps.
Hi Mike, Happy to read you enjoy this car & story :-) Lou
MOPAR or no car Lou! Fantastic GTX. Have a great day Lou.
Happy to share this car with you Ken inHB :-) Wishing you a great day too.
I just built the Revell 1/25 67 Hemi GTX kit . Came out real decent I think!!
You can check it out on my channel...
Glad to read you have a cool model of a car like this :-)
I've got that same model! Haven't built it yet, though. Just subbed you, too.
What a beautiful GTX!
Hi Mark, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou

Another Great one Lou. 69 Hemi GTX in Black Velvet, Nice. Thnx for sharing.
Hi Felix, Happy to read this is a "Great one" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Just like the 69 440 6bbl Road Runners and 440 6 pack Super Bees!!
They're all Mopar Brothers :-)
I was hoping for the "Brooke doing donuts in the school parking lot" surprise ending 😁
Very nice (sinister-looking) GTX! 👍
Hi kimosabbe50, I think Brooke will be coming up in a future episode, so stay tuned :-) Lou
Sounds awesome like a Hemi should!!
Just the way we like it :-)
Wonderful car Lou. I love it and with an elephant engine. WOW.
Hi Ollie, Happy to receive a "WOW" from you :-) Lou
Beautiful Mopar! Thanks again Lou!
Hi motorTranz, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Another great video Lou !!!!!
Thank you Jim :-)
Except for a 1960 Plymouth Fury this is my next favorite car of all time!
Hi Aaron, Happy to read this car is in the "Top 2" :-) Lou
Beautiful car! Years ago I worked with a guy had a green one, nice to see his relationship with his daughter liking cars too!
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Like the L88 & the Boss9 these weren't really meant for the street. The GTX was slightly upscale version ,hence the wood grain.Love the little hints of red on it too.
Hi Richard, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and happy to read the details you notice, Lou
i like plymouth gtx 426 hemi real nice.
Me too :-)
Damn, Lou! That is one amazing car! I'm partial to black cars and this one makes me melt like buddah! It has just the right amount of chrome - those red wall tires just pop on that GTX! You continue to out do yourself with each of these videos, Lou! Chrysler Nationals has had some fine vehicles with which we can gaze our eyes. Keep up the great work! One of the best youtube channels ever! What EV owners don't understand is the sound of a Detroit V-8 engine - that sound just makes one's hearts flutter!
Hi ultraviolet tp, High praise for this Black Car. Appreciate the kind words on this UA-cam Channel. Very inspiring. Thank you, Lou
@@loucostabile Your individual comments to replying to your videos is heartwarming and appreciated. Not many youtubers do this but you CONSISTENTLY do this. Another reason your youtube channel is a must view! You are the man!
Interesting looking Plymouth GTX. I like his pedal setup to accommodate his disability. The engine sounds healthy once he got it started, and that Air Grabber was exclusively Mopar! Another fine example Lou! 👍
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy this "fine example" :-) Lou
One bad-arsed-looking car.
Just the way we like it :-)

My goodness that’s such a beautiful car. I know all about trying to tune dual carbs, it’s a pain for sure.
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Vice car and video Lou, Thumbs Up !
Hi bluesharp59, Happy to receive a "Thumbs Up !" :-) Lou
@@loucostabile
You are welcome also.
Love the GTX, only one thing that I don't like is that it needs the four speed with the pistol grip
Hi Jamey, Happy to read you "Love the GTX" :-) Lou
Thx, Lou for another exciting episode of "Lou's Auto Porn Show".... Carl's GTX is a pristine example and I'm green with envy.. thank you once again. Like Carl I was an A body, and E body Mopar guy.. but I love the b-bodies as well.
You're welcome James. My pleasure sharing this car with you :-) Lou
One of the best comments about Lou's channel - Lou's Auto Porn Show. I so wanted to allude to that in another post but I didn't dare for fear of alienating some visitor. But, you did go there and I respect the heck out of you!
@@ultraviolettp3446 ... I love Lou's Channel... and not just for the Mopars, his cars run the gamut, Oldsmobile, wonderful pristine classic Pontiacs, classic chevrolets.. you name it, Lou puts it out there, great job Lou, we all know how much work you put into these videos, and I know all of us guys we appreciate it, and it shows in the comments.
Fabulous. Be bliss to hear from the Lass, does she drive? I hope so. Fabulous machine. The dash board reminds me of the Australian Chrysler Valiant 69, which makes me wonder just how much interchange was going on between Australia and the US. Imagining one these in NZ converted to RHD is a project that interests me greatly.
Hi Simon, Happy to read "Fabulous" :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Damn one Ford owner downvoted, they're still angry that Mopar kicked their ass. It sounds like a dragster so cool.
Thanks for viewing and sharing :-)
Beautiful Hemi car for a very deserving owner! Sure, let the daughter drive it a bit, just so she can experience what a real 'old-time' horsepower car feels like. I wonder if it has the factory-stall converter in it - even with 3:55 gears back there, it'd probably pull real nicely if he bumped that converter up a bit.
Hi Easy Going, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) I'm sure his Daughter will be behind the wheel soon. Lou
i like the paint
Happy to read you like the paint.
that car looks EVIL in black!

Just curious Lou.Has anyone ever not let you open a car door? lol
I believe everyone has let me open the doors.
IMHO, the car should have Magnum 500 15x7 wheels.
Thank you for sharing.
Nice and very clean Hemi GTX ! I see he is from Va.? A Virginian myself and a Hemi owner too! What rear gear ratio is in the GTX?
Hi fortyshooter1, Happy to read you enjoy this car. Glad to read you're a VA Hemi Owner too. Not sure what the rear gear ratio is, Lou
On his display board it said 3.55 Sure Grip. Would have expected a 3.54 or 4.10 Dana on a Hemi car.
@@stephenholland5930 Thanks I missed that. With the Torqflite trans you got the standard 8 3/4 rear unless you ordered Track Pac which included 3.54 Dana or Super Track Pack which was 4.10 Dana rear. We ordered our 1970 Hemicuda with Torqueflite and Super Track Pack. 4 spd manual Hemi cars automatically got the Dana 60 rear.
