Wouldnt have gone here if not for these videos. It was one of the major highlights of my entire trip of the the western United states. Thank you Forgotten Weapons!
On your last video from Cody, I commented with questionable humor, so this time, I'll play it straight: Ashley Hlebinsky is the last person one might imagine as a firearms museum curator. She is, however, very qualified, knowledgeable, and professional. This is indicative of the changes and expansion in the firearms community in general, and is awesome. We need more people like Ashley in the industry, and in the public eye.
I really need to pay that place a visit. I'm glad to see they have a curator that's as passionate about the guns as she seems to be. That's outstanding.
Thank you for doing this and the tour video. I had not heard of the museum. I am planning a camping trip to Yellowstone with my teenage daughter. I didn't think she would be interested but I showed her your vids and yippee she said it looks cool. I am definitely going to put the museum on our agenda.
... awesome video... love her story and her passion and her drive... she did whatever she needed to fulfill her dream... you can see she can hardly contain her love of firearms... again awesome video...great interview Ian
If you have a few uninterrupted seconds of the AC noise recorded, there are some plugins that can use it as a source to selectively remove the noise from the footage.
Ian, please look into some Lavalier (lav) microphones! that's some loud A/C, i'll give you credit for even attempting to fix the sound. edit: as always, thanks for the uploads.
I have visited the museum twice. I stayed in the area visiting the museum for days. They didn’t have early versions of the sturmgewehr 42. I went to the basement and talked the curator. He was a glasses wearing man sitting at his desk surrounded overwhelmingly by dusty gun books. I told him my tale of the evolution of the sturmgewehr. He went to a shelve and pulled out a book of German guns. After researching for a little while, we found it. He took me to the area where the weapon should have been. No weapon on display. It’s rare. He said he would search the vault. We shook hands and went our separate ways. I need to go again I haven’t seen it all.
Ian I have to say she sounds like your soulmate. Fantastic interview with a curator that is truly passionate about historical firearms and progressive education of firearms to the public. great interview,
Wow! Were you ever blushing! :D The tension (understandably) was pretty thick at the beginning. Thanks for bring us along on your first of many visits to the museum. I appreciate all of your efforts.
Sounds like you ran it through some audio cleaning plugin that wasn't set optimal. If you have a problem like this again, feel free to send me an uncompressed .wav of the original audio and I'll use some of our high quality software to fix it up. I've got 35+ years of audio experience in network radio and pro audio production. Maybe I can help you out. :) Thanks for the vid. I've been through Cody many times bu never bothered to stop at the museums - always on the way through to Yellowstone. That is going to change!
Great video! Thanks for making the trip. A different approach to this could be to integrate NFC tags and a digital gallery with in depth information and audio/video.
Hi Ian. I think you might revisit The Cody Museum. If you do please ask Ashley about Winchesters part in the design of the Japanese Murata rifle. I believe Winchester furnished all the tooling to set up Japan's first Murata factory. I foolishly passed a chance to purchase a winchester marked Murata receiver years ago.
I feel like I'm watching a shooting video with a lot of wind in the background. You weren't kidding that the museum's air conditioning totally fudged up the sound! Nevertheless, other than the sound, great video as usual Ian. And I seriously wish I could work for that museum... I grew up as the grandson of a cattle rancher in Eastern Colorado, so I'm in to all things Old West, and naturally all things firearms (seeing as I frequently watch your videos)... Who knows?! Maybe someday I can work for that place in some capacity.
There's probably a line of men, 5 miles long, all armed to the teeth, waiting for the opportunity to do battle and decide which one is worthy of Miss Hlebinsky's time.
I have very special hearing. I can isolate sounds in a special way allowing me to hear both of you perfectly. I tried to add the proper closed captioning, but I could not figure out how. The auto-detect is a total fail, ha. I can only find videos of adding closed captioning to videos I upload. Is it possible for me to transcript this, or do I misunderstand the UA-cam transcript system?
Ian very interesting, I would also suggest checking out the collection of the Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico VA. They have an awesome collection.
Damn Ian! I think that she is the woman for you. Wow. Yes the sound was terrible in the video. But, I think that you have found your soul mate. I do no know you well enough but, damn, she is amazing.
Ian, the sound is good enough. I was able to hear things just fine. Was it perfect? No. But your goal was achieved. Places like the Cody Museum isn't something I personally would be interested in. Why? I'm not a big "cowboy action shooter". But your video has set me straight on what is really there and what the collection really is. So...now I'm honestly curious about the Cody Museum. Which I assume is the goal to begin with. Sincerely, Marky
Starting from Middle Ages "-ski / -cki" in Polish surname was equivalent of "von" in German - indicated nobility, and possessed land e.g. Leszczyński derives from Leszczyna, now a suburb of Leszno. Later it started loosing connection to nobility. As for the "-sky" part, somebody in her family when they moved to USA changed surname to maintain the correct sound and not original spelling so "Hlebinsky" is actually "Chlebiński". I may be wrong about that bread (Chleb) part, it could be there was place called Chelbińsk (~bread making settlement~) since hers surname is associated with heraldic family Bonarowa pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonarowa_(herb_szlachecki) Greetings from Poland :)
Mouse Trap Hartyansky is probably simplified spelling of Hartyánszky. "Hartyán" is how Hungarian spell "Chrťany", a old village in today Slovakia*. "-szky" "-czky" is a old Hungarian way of writing "-ski" "-cki". Slovakia was part of Hungary between 10 and 20 century so you can understand why they spell their surnames in Hungarian. *hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hartyán
Also worth of mentioning is not every surname ending with "-ski" means that person have polish ethnicity e.g. Arabski (Arabian -ski), Izraelski (Israel -ski), Czeski (Czech -ski), Węgierski (Hungarian -ski). The same goes for other languages e.g. "Lengyel" means "Polish" in Hungarian.
Krzysztof Grzegorz Kryszczyszyn (Křyštof Gřegoř Kryščyšyn) Ok. That's always nice to know. I've noticed also that the -ski surnames also exist in Russia, but they're usually easy to distinguish from Polish surnames because they don't use Polish phonology eg. Berezovsky instead of Berezowski, and Tchaikovsky instead of Czejkowski
Wow she's awesome! It just sucks that I can't hear a word either of you are saying xD maybe you should release this interview as an transcripted journal article?
Hopefully the new museum has an air conditioning that isn't as loud. She sure seems like a nice lady who loves her job. I will have to visit the museum someday and maybe try to get a job there...they need someone to clean old mil surplus rifle... right?
Wow, she looks different! And 404: SEXUAL TENSION NOT FOUND!!! She was engaged to Mark Hanish only 3 months after this was posted so she was likely already dating him when this was filmed.
Hmmm. It would be a shame to not upload this video, but the video really is pretty distracting. You and Ian should look into getting some lavalier mics and a shotgun/directional mic with a good windsock on it to minimize noise from wind. I'm sure these are expenses Patreon supporters would be happy to help with. Also maybe you can do a follow up interview with her over Skype or maybe in person again later on in the future?
From the description: Sorry about the sound quality! I did my best to clean it up, but the air conditioning system in the museum had a more significant impact on the video that I had anticipated.

She is so cute, she has that husky/sexy voice, and she really knows her stuff. OHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh........................Maaaaaaaaaannnnnnnn.....................
That's my dream girl. Beautiful, smart, and LOVES History and Firearms. Aside from the whole Wyoming thing, she perfect! lol. And with an incredible job! Such a crazy cool museum to visit in person! Highly recommended!
Re-do the video. Yes, we understand the AC is making it bad, but this gives you all the more reason to visit them and her again ;-) Ooh, another Pittsburgher, too! Gotta interview her again, Ian. (I'm bitchin', but I'm watching the whole thing. This is good, and both of your enthusiasm(s?) are great despite the minor inconvenience) ... Edit again - invite her over to the historic two-gun stuff if she has the time.
I love the channel, I love the content, (Ashley sure seems like a nice gal too ;) ), but the audio killed it for me. :( Lesson learned hopefully. Keep the videos coming! :)
From the description: Sorry about the sound quality! I did my best to clean it up, but the air conditioning system in the museum had a more significant impact on the video that I had anticipated.
A wall of guns hand made by John Moses Browning himself...I do believe this would qualify as a holy site for firearms enthusiasts.
The Brownian sect
But where is gun Mekka or gun jerusalem
You weren't kidding about the A/C...
Wouldnt have gone here if not for these videos. It was one of the major highlights of my entire trip of the the western United states. Thank you Forgotten Weapons!
The interview was so interesting that I almost forgot completely about the background noise after some time. Thanks Ian (and thanks Ashley!) :)

should add subtitles and call it a day

Good interview. Thanks Ashley, Ian & Cody Firearms Museum!
After about a minute I simply tuned out the AC and I no longer even noticed it.
Ian, please look into some Lavalier (lav) microphones!
that's some loud A/C, i'll give you credit for even attempting to fix the sound.

Wow! Ashley is very lucky to have the great opportunity to learn about the history of all those firearms. Thanks for sharing.
Helloooo, 2011 Ian.
(Your old videos sounded pretty much the same.)
It'll be nice if someone gets to work on subtitles though.
Cody WY also has a dug-up gun museum that's worth seeing, and it's free. They do take donations.
They should absolutely pay Othais from C&Rsenal for his whitebox animations of operating actions. Really clear detail of how the action operates.
Ian I have to say she sounds like your soulmate. Fantastic interview with a curator that is truly passionate about historical firearms and progressive education of firearms to the public. great interview,
I don't see a ring, maybe she's still available? - sounds like you would be a good match.
the ring is on Ian's finger. lol
As someone who designs HVAC systems for a living, that is terrible design - very noisy. Anyway, interesting interview.
It really doesn't sound that loud to the ear - it was accentuated by the camera for some reason.
I see. Interesting....
Same thing happened in "Sleeping hummingbird "snores" in Peru".
What? I can't hear you over the air conditioning.
Sounds like where the camera was placed right where the vent blows or just crappy mic on the camera since audio was kind of metallic sounding.
Wow! Were you ever blushing! :D
The tension (understandably) was pretty thick at the beginning.
Thanks for bring us along on your first of many visits to the museum. I appreciate all of your efforts.
The most unlikely looking firearms museum curator one could imagine but surely the most attractive and highly intelligent too!
"I think this is going to be the first of several trips out here."
I bet.
great video! I hope u do more videos with these people in the future.
Ian .... maybe time to redo this great visit and interview. Lesson learned, time to make a great recording (as usual)!!!

Comments are the best and worst part about this video. Ashley and the air Conditioning are a close second.
I could listen to Ashley talk all day ... Ian you need to go back and do more "joint' firearm reviews with her.

Your videos have made me want to visit this museum on my way back from my road trip.
More videos with Ashley
Wow she's awesome! She really found her calling.
The Frazier History Museum is a really good weapons museum in Louisville KY.
Very impressive! Ashley for president.
There's probably a line of men, 5 miles long, all armed to the teeth, waiting for the opportunity to do battle and decide which one is worthy of Miss Hlebinsky's time.
Look at it this way, Ian, at least your audio screwed you over on a video with a guest so compelling that people watched it anyway.
it is awesome seeing other women so interested in guns I loved the video !
I have very special hearing. I can isolate sounds in a special way allowing me to hear both of you perfectly. I tried to add the proper closed captioning, but I could not figure out how. She's cute and has a lot of guns. Where do I sign up?
Definitely on my list of places to visit.
Always interesting listening to intelligent people.
Yup audio is terrible, good excuse to drive back to Cody, WY.
That's some powerful air conditioning.
Ian very interesting, I would also suggest checking out the collection of the Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico VA. They have an awesome collection.
Ian, where you standing on a box?
Hello love your videoes all the way from Norway.
But could you get 2 lavalier mics for interviews like thise plz.
She pulled off Ian's trademark "Grinning, double thumbs up" very nicely
They have the Great Basin Winchester. It is literally a forgotten weapon! I hope you got some info to show and share about it.
I really need to get out there and see this mueseum!
Museum*
Big place with lots of guns*
*curator
I'm so jealous, Ashley has my dream job.
Damn Ian! I think that she is the woman for you. Wow. Yes the sound was terrible in the video. But, I think that you have found your soul mate. I do no know you well enough but, damn, she is amazing.

You thought AC referred to "Air Conditioning." It's actually "Acoustic Corruption."
I wonder if she know what hear surname means. It's Bread - ski
Starting from Middle Ages "-ski / -cki" in Polish surname was equivalent of "von" in German - indicated nobility, and possessed land e.g. Leszczyński derives from Leszczyna, now a suburb of Leszno. Later it started loosing connection to nobility.

Interesting. I know a guy whose surname is Hartyansky but his family apparently came from Hungary. Any idea where that surname originated from?
Mouse Trap Hartyansky is probably simplified spelling of Hartyánszky.

Gotta curate 'em all!
this is why you convince a friend to wear the phones behind the cam
This sounds like a 90's instruction video, which is funny cause that's what their clothes look like.
i wish i could hear it better i cant understand a thing but what i could hear it was a great interview
Watch in 240p for best quality
Hopefully the new museum has an air conditioning that isn't as loud. She sure seems like a nice lady who loves her job. I will have to visit the museum someday and maybe try to get a job there...they need someone to clean old mil surplus rifle... right?
And now you know, why it makes sense to study history.
Wow, she looks different! And

The comment section that Ian wouldn't touch with a barge pole
How tall are you?
The question is: how short is she? hehehe
Never before has my attraction for Ian and his beard, ever been so confused.
Have a nice day, Ian.
sound sucs :( shame because it was really interesting interview. I hope we see more from this musem and its amazing colection :)
From the description: Sorry about the sound quality! I did my best to clean it up, but the air conditioning system in the museum had a more significant impact on the video that I had anticipated.
Forgotten Weapons
Ian you could add subtitles if nothing can be done to sound :)
Wich is your and her best gun in the how newseam
I know it's the air conditioning, but wow is that audio messed up...
From the description: Sorry about the sound quality! I did my best to clean it up, but the air conditioning system in the museum had a more significant impact on the video that I had anticipated.
+Forgotten Weapons yeah, I read that. Shame the audio got so wrecked by the ac though.
+Forgotten Weapons hay could you please possibly add some caption just because its almost impossible to understand some of it.
Wait, they're gonna add _more_ guns?
"I'd like a ticket to Cody, Wyoming. One way."
She is so cute, she has that husky/sexy voice, and she really knows her stuff. OHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh........................Maaaaaaaaaannnnnnnn.....................
so lovly
my heart would swell if you two went on a date. just saying. maybe make another video where you tour another museum or collection together?
Well, at least there's "Animal songs for kids . . . Educational!"
Perfect girls don't exi.......
Hey now!!
I knew somehow, she was from PA.
That's my dream girl. Beautiful, smart, and LOVES History and Firearms. Aside from the whole Wyoming thing, she perfect! lol. And with an incredible job! Such a crazy cool museum to visit in person! Highly recommended!
AWSOME TOPIC but terrible audio
Why can't I find a girl like this? haha
Re-do the video. Yes, we understand the AC is making it bad, but this gives you all the more reason to visit them and her again ;-)
Ooh, another Pittsburgher, too! Gotta interview her again, Ian. (I'm bitchin', but I'm watching the whole thing. This is good, and both of your enthusiasm(s?) are great despite the minor inconvenience) ... Edit again - invite her over to the historic two-gun stuff if she has the time.
WOW
Lovely lady
Oh that's a good looking lever action in the display.
Wait! There were guns in this video? :)
Wow, what a woman
impressive.
YaY, Pittsburgh Represents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the channel, I love the content, (Ashley sure seems like a nice gal too ;) ), but the audio killed it for me. :( Lesson learned hopefully. Keep the videos coming! :)
I'm writing a transcript for this interview.... I'm 2 minutes in.... 0/10 I never want to scribe again.
uuugggh, I give up. sorry
It's not that hard to parse. No transcription needed. Don't strain yourself.
Nice video Ian, but the sound is not good, nice and smart girl
it's like the female version of Ian
married her, Ian
Wow O.o
good video but would be way better if you actually cleaned up your audio I think your video blew my speaker just saying
From the description: Sorry about the sound quality! I did my best to clean it up, but the air conditioning system in the museum had a more significant impact on the video that I had anticipated.
+Forgotten Weapons i think im in love
Wow the slavic female version of Ian
