Hi Sam, great video. I have some midi loops already worked out on my computer. Is there a better way of loading these samples onto the KP3 using the SD card and are they easy to call up once there? Thanks!
saving to the SD is a little tricky. You will find a lot on functionality by holding the shift button and pressing the numbered buttons along the top. Shift+card will let you format a card and I believe shift+save will save to the card.
Did you connect them by MIDI on the back panel so that they're all in time? Also, many mixers have an effects input, where you can use a Kaoss pad on any channel of the mixer. Look up "effects send/receive" and your mixer. There is a switch on the back of the Kaoss pad to allow you to do it as well. More KPs equals more fun, but if you have a mixer you may not need a third KP to accomplish what you want.
The two cables used in this tutorial are: RCA (male) to 1/8" (male) amzn.to/2Bztn4P and RCA (male) to 1/4" (male) amzn.to/2B38Wfr I recommend Hosa cables because they are cheap and I've never had any issue with them.
You only have two input options and you can only use one at a time. The MIC option and the Line In option. However, you could run a tape out line from a multi channel mixer to the line in of the KP3.
Hi, I noticed in an earlier comment you mention using a mixers effect send / returns with the KP3.. does this mean I can use the KP3 to add affects to any signal routed though it at any time or do I have to record a sample into it to be able to manipulate with effects?
Samuel: I do not have a KP3, i do have a mini KP2 that I want to connect to my iPad. So I just connect a audio cable from the headphone port on the iPad into the Line In on the mini KP2 and then launch a music making app like Rebirth for iPad or iKaossilator or Figure or iElectribe or any other app and then just select the effect I want to use on the mini KP2 and I am good to go? Thanks for your help!
hey mate..i really like your staff..i have already 2 kaosspads..gonna have3..ive bought a mixer..and all the things i need to let them work together..but i cant..don't know how to make them sound together..even 2..please..if u could..please explain me how to connect the kaosspads eachother to let them work...Peace&good job!
Hey There, Thanks so much for the great tutorials. I just got the Kaoss Pro and the Kp3 recently. I actually am very frustrated and I think you can help. When you sample your drums (in this case the ipad dm-1) there is no break after the sample finishes recording. I get a break. It's so annoying. I am trying to record a simple 3 chord progression and it seems to cut of the chord and put some silence before it loops again. That's not the way I need it to riff over and create melodies. Help!!
No you don't have to have a sample recorded to add effects. You can use it as a live effects processor. It will add effects to the signal running through it.
I've had this problem before and it drove me nuts. It could be that big fader on the left is down all the way. That acts as a volume control for your effects banks. If that thing is down all the way. you wont hear your samples in the banks. Hope this answers the question. I'm going to be on here a lot more often now so if you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Very helpful tutorial. Thank you! I have a question; how can I add real time effect on only one sample, while playing multiple samples? For example when I play sample A, B, C and if I wanna manipulate only sample B in real time, how should I do (is it possible)? Your tutorial would be sooo appreciated.
Could be a couple things: make sure you DM-1 (I love that app by the way) is set to the same tempo as the KP3. It could be recording a few extra beats because the tempo is not synced. That's my first guess. My next guess it that maybe the sequence you've created in the DM-1 has a few extra beats in there that don't have anything in it. Lemme know if any of this helps.
Can you only hook up one instrument at a time? For example, could i have my kp3 and microkorg synth going in at the same time, or only one at a time? I dont want to buy 2 haha. Thanks!
I liked my KP3 so much my chum asked me to buy him one. I enjoyed playing two so much (before I gave him his one) that he ended up buying a second KP3. Now when we jam we have three..... probably enough, but we wouldn't say no to another each.
Hey man cheers for the vids. I've recently got a KP3 and I'm having a pretty dumb problem with it.. I cant hear the playback of my samples. I can hear the input, and I can hear things such as the built in synth and drum, but I just can't hear my god damn samples! What am I doing wrong do you have any idea? Can you usually hear the sample playback through ur headphones (I can't) Ive also tried a variety of line outs, including recording line out onto my comp but once again only hear input cheers!
this is how tutorials should look like, you're really good at it man, thank you!
You sound a little stoned, but your instructions were clear. Thanks man!
Btw great tutorial! Informative, short, to the point and you didn't reap at yourself!
Korg kp3 is it better than the rmx500
Very helpful. Just got the KP3. Thanks.

Thanks for making this!
The best break down for me the beginner.

I find the "Novation" iOS app is great for this...Some great sample blocks, loops and effects to sample via line in of the KP3.
Seriously well explained. Great pacing and clear exposition.
wow its realy good tutorial!!
