    Hey man, great to see another person using the kp3 for guitar! For the longest time I actually used the Behringer FCB1010 to control it. Assigned the number to presets and had the 2 expression pedals assigned to X axis on one and Y axis on the other. Was super cool, now working on setting it up so my Synthstrom Deluge can control it!

      This is an idea that crossed my mind some years ago but I wasn’t sure it would work. Only recently saw some videos of Nels Cline doing this and now I’m intrigued!

    Interesting and creative way of using the kaoss pad, would love to see how you use it with a regular synth setup

    Great guide. I have the KP2 and just recently started experimenting with intergrading it into my effects chain. The only thing I have to change from your guide is that my amps do not have an FX Loop so I just go to the front of the amp. I just mitigate the signal degradation through a buffer.

    I'm a guitar player, and I had KP3 for some time. I loved the look and the concept, buy I was struggling too much to get interesting or useful effects from it, so I sold it.

      It's super fun to experiment with but there are many other multi effects pedals out there that do almost all the same things, sound better and don't require hands to operate.

    Check out Nels Cline's (Wilco) guitar rig where you find a Kaos pad in between a lot of other great effects pedals.

    Nice tutorial- I hadn't thought of it as a mutli effects device for guitar, I use mine for part of my live techno set up- I espescially like the granular looper to add glitch style effects, I have the KP3 + so I can build up loops using the 4 loop buttons should I want to, it's something I haven't really used much as yet.

    Exactly what I want to buy a kp3 for, using in the guitar fx chain. My plan was just connecting the guitar to an audio interface with the kp3 also connected

    You can power this with 9vdc, just make sure it has enough amps. KP3+ is power hungry at boot. It is just opposite polarity as a normal guitar pedal. MyVolts makes a nice polarity switcher/adaptor cable. Also no need for an external looper, that's what this thing is at heart. Instead of pressing record (to record unmodulated input), try shift record (to record modulated by the KP3). I've never tried one but I would very much like a foot pedal for these. Once you have a recording, press shift and the button you recorded to. This will enable you to edit the sample. Try turning off some of the horizontal buttons just above the screen. Lots of neat stuff in a KP3. You can also use it as a midi controller for external gear.

      @OffShiftProductions  Рік тому +2

      A hands free looping mod would make this thing incredible. I've played with using a looper pedal before the kp3 and recording samples to the sample banks that way but it's not the best workflow. Thanks for the info on powering with a 9vdc. I might have to check that out!!

    I have an Ibanez RGKP6 that is fairly funky (just have to get all the output levels set evenly for all the effects) that I am greatly enjoying. Have to see about getting a similar setup as to what you are doing. Thanks for this video.

      @@OffShiftProductions , it is a great first step (for me). Learning which patches require a finger on the touch pad vs others that just require an initial touch is a bit of a climb and chews up the batteries to no end. This said, I am going to do my best to replicate what you’ve done with my preferred 9-string guitars.

    I use it on my guitar and bass guitar, mostly I like to sample in the 4 slots and add effects etc and record to my DAW, so it's more of a studio tool, sometimes I use it as an effect on live playing sometimes. I do mostly industrial experimental stuff.

    I have a pedalboard I use on the table top... it has a drum machine running through an effects pedal into the ditto X4 looper.. and my guitar running through the other effects pedals into the ditto X4 looper.. how do I hook up the Korg kaoss pad to the Looper to be able to affect the overall loop with the sound effects from the cord? Do I do this with MIDI cables?

    • @OffShiftProductions
      @OffShiftProductions  2 роки тому

      MIDI only carries data, so if you want to affect the sound you'd have to integrate the KP3 via audio cables, most like RCA to 1/4 cables. Tough to know without seeing your set up. Good luck!

    Hello again, been a while since I comment on here but just wanted to say still loving the content.
    Your channel has been invaluable in learning kaossilator and kp3 which are about only things I use for music, few other here and there.
    I'm planning on getting bass guitar once I can afford to plug in can t wait to come back to this to learn how to try it out.
    Thanks for all the teaching thru the years and looking forward to the next one.

    Hey man, the power supply is 12volts. You can chop the plug cable and connect it to a little motorcycle battery.
    With the Kaossilator Pro; it's 9volts. You can buy a super cheap 12v to 9v step down transformer from eBay.
    Great video.

    I,m DAWless. To apply more effects i use 2 stereo loopers /ditto + ammoon, more affordable with reverse, halfspeed/. KP3 is a crazy tool, but i need a 72 hours day without 💤

    Thanks so much! I have KP3 hooped up on the floor with my pedal board but only for applying effects coming out of my looper pedal which is great as you do not missing expression foot pedal like changes as I will be playing lead over looper via a different signal chain. A question if I may. What is the advantage of using Mic Input of KP3? I am using Line In to take signal from my pedal. Thanks.

    • @OffShiftProductions
      @OffShiftProductions  Рік тому +1

      If you're going straight from your guitar in to the kp3 or using a mono pedal before the KP3 mic input works because you don't have to mess with getting a TS to RCA splitter cable to get signal. But I've used stereo fx pedals in a fx loop and used the line in as well. I think it's mostly just preference of how you set it up.

    Hey, I'm trying to figure out how to sample guitar efficiently. I can't find any way to start sampling on the KP3 without losing some beats from the sample because I have to quickly move my hands back to the guitar and I can't get there in time and it's just too finicky

    • @OffShiftProductions
      @OffShiftProductions  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah it's really tough to loop guitar on the kp3. Best I can offer is get a looper pedal, record your part on that and then sample it on the kp3. Good luck!

      @@OffShiftProductions yeah okay. Could you suggest some looper pedals?

    • @OffShiftProductions
      @OffShiftProductions  2 роки тому +1

      @@blackoes I would just get somethig cheap to start with. I have a looper pedal from donner that was like $40. See if it's something that's going to work for you and then upgrade to a nicer pedal with more features. Be sure to use a metronome so you get your bpm dialed in with the kp3 and loop pedal.

    Search XY Midi Pad by Amptonelab. Get it, sacrifice a project guitar like an SG shape guitar that has very good amount of flat area behind the bridge are, have a guitar luther to do the recommended cavity and routing measurement by Amptonelab and then fix the XY Midi Pad on it. once done, from your guitar, you can have touch midi control to your Kaoss Pad. I did it before for my SG shape project guitar. Felt almost like Matt Bellamy guitar...almost... lol.

    I DEFINITELY have used my KP3+ (I know not exactly the same device but close enough) with my foot while playing guitar or with other instruments / machines.. it's not easy lol. But I've thought recently about building my own apparatus to actuate the butttons (at least the sample banks) with foot pedals.. I'll let you know if I make any progress haha

    • @OffShiftProductions
      @OffShiftProductions  2 роки тому

      Thanks so much for that! I appreciate it. I wonder if you could trigger the sample banks with MIDI controller/commands

    • @baterickpatman
      @baterickpatman 2 роки тому

      pretty sure that is doable.. i dunno anything about MIDI.. if there was a way to send live foot-pedal commands via midi? haha idk.. I have the most fun just experimenting w different configurations.. I made some pretty cool beats with only tuna cans (I washed em first), my voice, a shitty old Radio Shack mic, and the KP3+... also wrote a lil program to generate PWM tones (melodies and "beats".. kinda) with an Arduino and wired it up w a preamp on a breadboard and control it with an old laptop keyboard to introduce live lofi sounds... sounds like crap but its fun :D

    Thank you SO much for this thorough run down of how to connect a Korg Kaoss Pad with line level instrument!! I have been wanting to connect my bass for years but was stumped by how to route signal. Steve Lawson, a brilliant bass player doing primarily solo loop performing, always has this in his fx chain. (Here's Steve from 5 years ago with 3 of the KP minis in his rig. He starts using them around 2:15 into the piece: ua-cam.com/video/fzOtIOW8HIg/v-deo.html). Liked and subscribed. Thank you again!
