Oh yeah, she got Scooby in the separation, I hate my commute so much now.. :)
I LOVE my 2014 Evo X GSR. My buddy has a 2011 STI sedan and I was excited to drive it because that was the car I almost bought, but once I did I was SOOOO happy I didn't. His car felt dead, didn't handle anywhere near what my car can do even with 4 passengers. Evo is definitely better on the performance side and the STI may be better for an all around fun daily driver, some feel it looks better too but I prefer my X. I only want performance out of my car so with the goals I have it has to be an Evo. In a couple weeks my car will be making 500+whp as well :)
subaru has been offering a CVT on their base model WRX for some years now. clearly they are steering away from true performance 4-seater fans for some dumb reason. EVO has true torque vectoring so it definitely feels different in a corner. WRX STi has something close to an ABS that kicks in when cornering and they have the audacity to call it "torque vectoring" lmao. just btw while 500hp is nothing to the old unbreakable cast iron 4G63, i don't think it's particularly healthy for EvoX's aluminium block 4b11T. the fun of EvoX is in the corners. i own a MY14.5 Ralliart with the same engine (although different turbo when stock. mine was single scroll but i swapped it for a twin scroll from a wrecked EvoX last year) and none of my local tuners i talked to recommended going beyond 300KW (400-ish bhp) with it. mine now is at 223KW (stock 177KW) and i'm super happy with it. when i've saved enough money for a new daily driver, im gonna get my Ralliart fully rallycross compliant. wide body kit, rally susp, mudflaps, rollcage, window reinforcement and the lot. the twists and turns and the edge of grips are what's fun for me. not sure if tuning an aluminium 4cly 2.0T 4WD to be more drag oriented is the way to go when there are so many good iron block V8 RWDs for just that purpose.
The stock block 4b11 is definitely not as strong as the 4g63 but it can still handle that power just fine if tuned right with the tq in the safe zone. There's stock block X's with upwards of 700whp, so it's capable of making power, for how long that's another story. For me tq won't be an issue because my motor is being built as we speak, still stock head except for cams and springs. I wanted a car that could be as fast as super cars and also handle well, not just be a laggy highway queen so that's why I went with an EFR Twin Scroll set up, it has amazing spooling characteristics yet is capable of 750whp on e85! I think I will keep it around 500-600whp on pump gas tho once it's all done but at least I have room for more if I want in the future

They are both brilliant cars. I’m just happy that Evo’s are still held in such high regard. Yeh, I drive an Evo and absolutely love it. It’s my 2nd in a row now, and daily driven... with the 5 speed truck gearbox lol. Bulletproof
Between these two, and I say this as a Subaru fan, I'd have the Mitsi. However, as a man lucky enough to have lived in Japan for many years and owned both Evo's (6 and 9) and Impreza's, (1998 WRX Wagon, Hawkeye STi) I have settled on a V5 STi Type RA as the best of the bunch; Have owned my current one 12 years and it came back to the UK from Japan with me, just couldn't part with it.
The hatch STi's actually look way better in person than they do on video or in pictures. When you see them in person you can notice the wide wheel arches they have. They're wide cars that have presence on the road. And in the gunmetal silvers or black, also the WR blue, they look good. They seem to suit the darker colours for the hatch. Although it did take a long-time for them to grow on me, and they still aren't my favourite year model, I think the hatches are still rather good looking. You can get the same gen STi in sedan also (that came out a few years after, it's the same front-end, same gen, just a sedan variant). I actually prefer that gen than the current gen (current gen looks too Evo for me). But that's Subaru for you, I never like the current gens, then they grow on me years later.
I actually favor the WRX in pearl white or blue and the charcoal grey in the video doesn't do justice to the car. Also I agree that the new ones looks very bad. The hatchbacks definitely look good in the wild. And they sound great.
@@jamesmedina2062 See the new STi S209 that is being released in the US market? Man, I don't like it at all. Look at the front fender, the design is so clunky. The new gen is ugly / awful appearance wise. Because the Cosworth CS400 in this video is still faster, which was released in the UK market. The CS400 is highly desirable now. It's def one of the best special edition STi's ever released, and it really has become the benchmark for special variant STi imo.

I think the Mitsubishi looks better VS the Subaru for this year. Objectively, it's very impressive how the Evo also makes so much power and torque with 500 cc of less displacement. The Evo also has the more focused racing interior. Transmission wise if the Evo is the manual 5 speed, then the STi takes that category as the STi is well known to have a very robust 6 speed gearbox. Sound wise, it must be given to the STi in my option. Handing likely goes to the Evo as STi's are know to understeer from factory unless they have some aftermarket suspension upgrades. Full disclosure I have a tuned 2004 STi but can admit the facts!

The Evo FQ400 is lower and more balanced making it able to do smokey drifts and not lose as much speed while doing it. The Wrx Sti CS has made some significant changes to the Turbo and Engine Efficiency but its still a nose heavy car.
Always wanted an Evo, driven both and evos feel light and nimble and Scoobies feel heavy and a bit more refined, the sound of the old 2.5 is beautiful .
I have the Impreza RS and love it. First time i sat in it, i turned to the seller and said "this is mine now" . . . . . So comfortable and a great drive.
There is no winner between 2 brothers from another moters..... BOTH are legends, both has a history and legacy which will live forever!!! Coming from 2019 STI owner
I’ve owned 3wrx /Sti’s(‘02,’05&’09), 1evo 9 and a 3000gt vr4. Mitsubishi’s are touchy but crazy fun. Subaru’s are fun and in my experience more reliable. Overall I miss my vr4 the most. Honestly, it comes down to what your taste is. You can’t go wrong with either. Unless you want to buy a new one. RIP Mitsubishi.
@Lovecars, Wasn't this the EVO model that on 5th Gear it was said that the FQ400 was a Lambo beater (Vs the Green Lambo), would you say the same about the Subaru too now?
...as a Forester owner I like the older Subarus more. Ååå..that time when one could chose the 50/50 to 70/30 at backtires... Make this one even, and bring Focus ST to the same line? Focus still have the 30/70 "mode" if I got the "carflue" brochyrs right ?
I don't think it has twin scroll, the new wrx needs equal length headers because of the twin scroll turbo that they got. The cosworth seems to have the unequal length headers and the twin scroll just wouln't fit
I think you should do a part 2 of this and include track lap times and also try to use it for everyday tasks (after all these are still 4 seater family cars) and then decide which is better. As for me, I can't choose. It's too difficult lol.
The Evo is a better looking car, but the Scooby sounds better. They both drive great. It's such a hard call... I say just restore a 2005 Sti and have the best of both worlds. New intake, exhaust, injectors, fuel pump, boost controller and a chip and it'll make more power than either of these.
Great vid! I must say, though, to burst your "Scooby bubble"..here in the States, at least in my neck of the woods, we do call Subarus "Subies", but we call turbocharged Subarus with a scoop "Scoobies".
At least i don't have to deal with Japanese import taxes owning a Mitsubishi, belive me..... i'm poor.... thats why the Subarus are better, they are underestimated sleepers w/ less than 400 hp ( mine is 265hp) and there cheaper. They are both good, for different reasons. Thats that....
I see many comments about still being able to buy the Subaru. Well you can, if you live outside Europe. We can’t buy the STI anymore and the current WRX (non STI) was never sold here. But wait, it gets even worse: next year you won’t be able to buy a turbocharged Subaru at all. Everything will be fitted with NA engines and a CVT. So they will all be hopelessly underpowered and as uninspiring as a car can be. It’s almost like Subaru doesn’t want to sell cars here.
More than likely because it's not selling in Europe. I don't know the exact numbers but I do know that Subaru really only sells in the US and Asia. So it's probably economical, also it won't be long before the Impreza goes out like Mitsubishi, it's all gonna be trucks and suvs, for the next 20 years atleast until electric cars become the same price as gasoline cars
There's no denying it to be fair now, to me really both cars are just really similar to each other. They both literally offer almost the same and from this point on it's up to the design preference of the individuals. The only thing that could seperate those two from each other is by letting every individual who owned both cars for a decent anmount of time decide which they liked more in ways of aerodynamics and handling etc. This way we could atleast get a clear overview of the gravitational stuff. Other than that, both cars are just beautiful and powerful and i'd be happy with either one of them :)

The Evo FQ400 is lower and more balanced making it able to do smokey drifts and not lose as much speed while doing it. The Wrx Sti CS has made some significant changes to the Turbo and Engine Efficiency but its still a nose heavy car.
there's no winner between these 2, but personally I like EVO.
as you said I have an EVO, it has been a legendary word for decades...
Subaru all the way
Adrian Correa finally a subie man!
the *evo* always wins everyone's heart, just like the driver (tiff needell). he's old but gold
Both are great cars. Did a test drive on a Evo 4 today and it was amazing.
My brothers WRX RA 1997 possum Bourne edition was the same, amazing!
Evo x is a retired assassin. But dam its still a good looking car.
Have always had a soft spot for hot hatches, but gotta go for the Evo just because of how it looks!
Would be proud to own either one of these cars 👍👍
Thank you Lee. Us too actually!
*Jeff 🙄
Always wanted an Evo, driven both and evos feel light and nimble and Scoobies feel heavy and a bit more refined, the sound of the old 2.5 is beautiful .
Evo is the winner. End of discussion
u mad bro
I'm sorry but where are Evos sold today ??? Lol
@@bossone1216 no need for evos lol the subies impersonated the evo the look just like the evo but like always slower.
@@super_street_racer5094 Uh, no.
Bye .must be dreamin' lol
New subscriber and and my first video i seen from your chanel, i love your enegry and the video keep it up guys😁
Thank you Edgardo 👍
0:52 hats off to the editor!!! That transition spot on....
Finally a REAL even matchup
11:00 “I don’t look at those sort of things, I’m waiting for the pace notes” 👏🏽👏🏽😝 (infotainment system)
Old School!
I love both cars but the Evo's aggressive face is what got me.
😻😻😻
Yeah
Great test. Don't really understand why anyone would give it a thumbs down. Evo for me, every day of the week.
I have the Impreza RS and love it. First time i sat in it, i turned to the seller and said "this is mine now" . . . . . So comfortable and a great drive.
I'm a proud American WRX owner...I call them Scoobies as well. My license plate used to read SCBYDBY.
😍😍😍
Fq400 all the way
It's so hard to answer it's like telling me to choose between my eyes!
👀😱👀
Hey guys. I just bought a evo x. 2015 Final edition And its amazing. I really like the handling of it. Its a best car. I've ever driven .
Oh that’s brilliant, I hope you continue to enjoy it
There is no winner between 2 brothers from another moters..... BOTH are legends, both has a history and legacy which will live forever!!!
Coming from 2019 STI owner
For these 2 cars, I prefer the Evo X FQ-400 but my most favourite is the WRX STi S206 that only sell in Japan and it's saloon.
Very nice choice
I’ve owned 3wrx /Sti’s(‘02,’05&’09), 1evo 9 and a 3000gt vr4. Mitsubishi’s are touchy but crazy fun. Subaru’s are fun and in my experience more reliable. Overall I miss my vr4 the most. Honestly, it comes down to what your taste is. You can’t go wrong with either. Unless you want to buy a new one.
RIP Mitsubishi.
Diehard fan of evo series
@Lovecars, Wasn't this the EVO model that on 5th Gear it was said that the FQ400 was a Lambo beater (Vs the Green Lambo), would you say the same about the Subaru too now?
...as a Forester owner I like the older Subarus more.
Ååå..that time when one could chose the 50/50 to 70/30 at backtires...
Make this one even, and bring Focus ST to the same line?
Focus still have the 30/70 "mode" if I got the "carflue" brochyrs right ?
Evos from 1 to 6.5 (TME), Scoobys from the blobeye onwards
what’s wrong with the bugeye?
Always loved the SCOOBY 🇬🇧
i though the subaru was single turbo
it is lol
yeah it definitely is... maybe its a twin scroll... but definitely not twins
I don't think it has twin scroll, the new wrx needs equal length headers because of the twin scroll turbo that they got. The cosworth seems to have the unequal length headers and the twin scroll just wouln't fit
Seeing as theyre so close I guess the deciding factor would be which one can do a faster lap on a track. Brands Hatch? Silverstone? Thruxton?
Good question
Seriously. A tie?! Lol. That was a great review!!
Thanks, difficult to split them
Evo box is supreme. Not glassy. Driven both and Scoobie feels less stable on tight switchback turns.
Fair enough
EVO EVO EVO 😁😆😁
I love both cars equaly but this evo look mean af
Agreed
Had no idea so little of these cars were made, very cool.
bought the evo x 10 days ago and all I can think is "GOD DAAAAAAMMMN" I can't believe I own this. Bought a space ship now I'm a space cadet.
I think you should do a part 2 of this and include track lap times and also try to use it for everyday tasks (after all these are still 4 seater family cars) and then decide which is better. As for me, I can't choose. It's too difficult lol.
Great idea!!
The hatchback would be more practical imho but at the same time cosworth parts aint cheap lol
@@erendyalatorre7785 how can a hatchback be more practical? A sedan has more boot space and interior space.
Probably not that easy to convince two owners that have taken that good of care of their cars to let someone else track them.
The Evo is a better looking car, but the Scooby sounds better. They both drive great. It's such a hard call... I say just restore a 2005 Sti and have the best of both worlds. New intake, exhaust, injectors, fuel pump, boost controller and a chip and it'll make more power than either of these.
The beautiful red is always the win.
As one of the biggest Subaru fans out there, it's still the Subaru any minute, hour, month, year etc
Great vid! I must say, though, to burst your "Scooby bubble"..here in the States, at least in my neck of the woods, we do call Subarus "Subies", but we call turbocharged Subarus with a scoop "Scoobies".
There may just be the difference
Didnt realise tge Fq400 was so rare. I seen one for sale pretty cheap recently . must have had issues
Just two all-time greats....!
At Least the Mitsubishi can go 100k miles at 500 hp on the stock bottom end, the Subaru is a ticking time bomb
Finally someone that gets it.
Isn't the drivetrain shit on the Evo?
roger Powell sr. You don’t see them on the street anymore because they’ve all gone to the track (;
Awesome Video! I peraonally fall towards the Evo group but still respect the "scooby" or Subi. Awesome vid!!
Is the FQ400 from the Mitsubishi? And is Cosworth CS400 third party built?
Not sure, think the Cosworth was available from Subaru
Evo 9 the best
EVO for me!
I have big Soft spot for Scoobys, in drag is draw, both Winners no loser
The aggressive look of the Evo is unmatched!
eh I don’t like the new STi but I like the gc8 or the 2000 Impreza sti
I'll have to admit the EVO is the better looking car.....But...I'd rather have the Scooby Thanks...!!
Can someone please help me out with this. I’m assuming that these aren’t the same engines that are in the regular New Evo X or WRX STI.
Evo once evo always...
