He's done talking about John. You can tell. Let him and his family alone. Imagine you lose your best friend. I lost my best friend 10 months ago and I don't want to talk about it. Time doesn't heal. You just get used to it. I know you'll never see this Dan, But I hope you are alright and my heart goes out to you and the Belushi family. First time I saw him I laughed so hard my back hurt and then I come to find out he died a few years before I was ever born. Life comes at you fast and you better grab it and hold on to it because when you let go, you wish you never did.
That look on Dan‘s face, he knew he couldn’t see John. He just knew it. He knew this day was coming, and when it did, he just didn’t know what to do. He knew John couldn’t be saved, but he didn’t want John to leave. Horrible thing for a friend to have to go through.I believe they have the same struggle with their career. He knew John was better, but he knew he was more consistent. They both have plenty of talent, but John always seem to make the public eye. But in the end, we’re talking about two friends. Two friends that had a horrific letting go of what they held so dear. May God bless both of them. Indeed
I love that when Dan tells stories, you can always picture the scene when he goes into detail. I read about the story too in Judy's book: thank God he got to her first because the press is never kind, they don't respect space, and it's always better to hear things like that from people who care about you. It's sad that he still blames himself. It's not surprising that he feels responsibility for John, as a Blues brother and a friend, but there wasn't anything he could have done. If it wasn't the speedball that night, it might have still been something else because of the way he was living.
"is he one of the most talented people you've ever worked with?" what a rocket scientist question from this schlep. what did you expect Dan to say? "well no, not really........" ackroyd and belushi, such an interesting odd couple of sorts. belushi the fiery self-destructive guy and ackroyd so calm and easy-going.
It's not Dan's or anyone else's responsibility to "catch" an addict before they overdose and die. When John Belushi overdosed, everyone blamed the girl and wanted her tried for murder, even though it was Belushi who asked for it. Everyone blamed Courtney Love for "murdering" Kurt Cobain. Everyone blamed the ambulance drivers for Jimmy Hendrix dying in the ambulance by not noticing that he threw up while unconscious. These were people who knew what they were doing, and no-one is responsible for their actions but themselves. I lived with addicts my entire life; they destroyed my family from when I was a small child. I'm sorry, but their actions are selfish and stupid, when they know they're hurting everyone around them.
Action and consequences, dear. Was John conscious about his drug addiction? Certainly. Would he have inevitably killed himself, if whoever gave him his final dose, Cathy Smith, did not? Who knows.. But then again.. if she hadn't..
This is probably the *only* sensible thing I have heard on all of the internet for a very long time. To be fair an intervention would have been helpful *but* at the end of the day people outside of that person cannot carry all the blame.
Hendrix was murdered his lungs were full of wine and when he was found by the ambulance they said he was alone lying in bed fully clothed which destroys the story everyone knows where his girlfriend called the ambulance and went with him to the hospital he was killed elsewhere and placed there to be found he had been dead for a number of hours before he was discovered.
I can listen to Danny Ackroyd all day. I’m so sad for his pain and all our loss. I was at a bday lunch and my friend whispers to me, I think you’re sitting next to John Belushi. I started to say, well, that’s unlikely he’s ddddd…then I stopped and realized I was sitting next to his brother Jim Belushi. Nice guy. Sad to think if only John knew Dan was writing him unto GhostBusters.
John did look older than 33 to me too. Very like Keith Moon who also put his body through the ringer. The sad thing about both men is if they had stuck to being alcoholics they’d have probably lasted long enough to get proper help but back then there was still a lot of stigma attached to addiction. Ironically, Keith died from an overdose of the medication to help him quit the booze, a drug that should never have been given outside a hospital or rehab. But when you have fame and fortune most doctors will prescribe anything for money.
I feel like it's trite to say someone went before his time. John was so unbelievably talented. I don't think we saw anything in his existing work that was anything like what he would have done had he lived. Don't get me wrong I love the work he did but I think part of his problem was that he didn't know what to do with himself. He was someone who could have done anything he wanted with his diverse talent. He was like a tornado. I do believe as Mr. Akroyd said that if his tornado had dissipated it would have touched down in musical theater. Not only as a director, and producer, but also as a writer, actor, and a musician. If I could bring one person back to fulfill his or her destiny, it would be John Belushi.

How heartbreaking hearing him speak on the specificity of it all. I love Aykroyd so much...felt bad for him during this interview. The questions & how they were written felt brash for the topic at hand. Having to sort out such a traumatic moment, only to be left with an awkward silence, and waving to the host for anything to add.
"Awkward silence" eh? Hmm... I listened to Dan tell a very personal story about losing his friend, and when he finished I told him I was sorry for his loss. So expressing sympathy is awkward? What do you suggest I should have done instead?
@@wwdpodcast @wwdpodcast Yes, awkward silence. 2:42 -- Enough silence for your guest to wave at you to say something. Grief is a very intense, personal, and powerful emotion. No matter the amount of time that passes, such grief carries with you 'til the end. After sharing the story, there wasn't even a mention of being sorry for his LOSS. Rather just a simple "sorry". You asked for my suggestion so I'll give it to you: if you're going to bring up such a heavy topic, be prepared to carry the conversation further with your own experiences & insight. Rather than express a single apology and move along to the next question. All you have to do is notice the uncomfortability in Aykroyd's body language & mannerisms during these questions and during your input. With all that being said, congratulations for having such a legendary icon as Aykroyd on your Pod.
@@alexandergray5134 Everyone has their unique interviewing style, and I’m not here to say which one is the best. After spending some time with Dan, I can confidently say he seemed at ease discussing the topics at hand. Considering that John Belushi passed away 40 years ago, Dan’s emotions likely weren’t as raw as you might think. As for sharing my personal experiences and insights, they weren’t relevant in this case-I didn’t know Belushi, nor was I present at the time of his death. Moreover, it didn’t feel right to interject my own stories of loss; the audience was there to hear from Dan, not me. That said, I appreciate the back and forth, and thank you for listening ;)
@@wwdpodcast I skimmed this and hardly read any of it. You are an indenial host and/or reporter--whichever you identify as. Belushi was overrated as was Farley. As accomplished as Dan Ackroyd is I'll bet he is tired of answering questions about Belushi. Dan Ackroyd was much funnier than Belushi and in fact his brother Jim Belushi is funnier as well.
I don’t think Aykroyd (correct spelling of his name btw) feels that way at all. I think it seems like he was pretty great friends with John Belushi. And I don’t find Jim Belushi remotely funny, but to each their own. 🤷♀️

The ignorance in assuming a free conversation on the matter due to time passing is baffling. Bad questions and writing, with an even worse presence. How you handle critique only goes to show the lack of professionalism and awareness you have. You wholeheartedly are not meant to be in this line of work, but good on you for exploring your interests, and finding a guest of this caliber. Take some Public Speaking courses and engage socially more often & maybe, just maybe, you'll develop some form of personality capable of holding someone's attention--as your guest wasn't even here for it. No matter the delusions you tell your self to any criticism you receive; there's a reason your channel has only 400 subscribers, and gets 100 views per video.
@@wwdpodcast Good on you for deleting my reply to this comment, shows great class. I guess I really hit a nerve with you on what I said. No depth to the questions, poorly written, and presented by a socially unaware baboon. Learn more about human interaction and "reading" your guests. Maybe then you'll develop any sort of awareness and/personality to hold a gauging interview, because you are oh so clearly not capable of doing so. There's a reason why you only have 400 subs with 100 views/video.
"...my friend The_Viking would cook SOUP for John etc etc etc." 0:30
@now you just KNOW a dude called "The Viking?" Can MAKE soup. You
automatically understand he's-the-soup-guy. Thanks Dan, Martha's Vineyard!
Where all the celebs are AFRAID to read their own mail (justly-so).

Dan is my cousin.
Mr. Aykroyd is a national treasure !
He's okay. I'm starting not to like the term "national treasure". It's hella cliche.
Smoking dope has ughhh….taken on a different meaning nowadays, don’t think Aykroyd is up with the times, but, I think anyone could’ve guessed that.
I feel so bad for Aykroyd, an accomplished entertainer for reducing himself to something as mundane as this piddling podcast.
I cant imagine him being that desperate for validation or money.
The mediocrity of millenials/zoomers is infecting a greater and greater number of society as time goes by.
Taking a break from whacking off to Kimberly Guilfoyle videos to do some trolling, eh?
@@wwdpodcast
Medicore come back from mediocrity does not surprise me.
Wake me up when you do something that I can give a shit about, and doing something that makes me want to troll you does not count.
If Dan Aykroyd does a podcast, good for him. What’s the problem?
Wow. Somebody woke up on the supervillainy side of bed that morning. Yeesh.
COVID got him. RIP John
Total bullshit Dan. Oh yeah, we all knew he was peaking over the....
I find it interesting how people love to dig this stuff up from the past and revel in it. John Adam Belushi was a junky.... that's the end of the story.
John actually encouraged his brother to take up dramatic acting instead of comedy.
Man was that guy over rated or what?
I’ll go with “or what?” .
