I was homeless for nearly a year due to crappy circumstances, and I literally used to watch your videos in a Denny's booth wifi all night to learn modern tech stacks. Ended up getting a job at a software company remotely, and was able to get a long-term motel room and then a house. Crazy to think about. I really appreciate all you've done to teach technology graciously, and freely. I'm gonna miss you, man!
what kind of job was it? I"m interested in remote jobs too!

man... what a story!!!
glad you overcome it...
and... prepare yourself to sell the story to the movie industry!!! ;-)
Wish you well.

Dear MPJ, sending lots of love (and rainbows and all that) from Brooklyn, NY. Congratulations on this new adventure! Your work on Fun Fun Function is one of my inspirations and I cherish the times we have gotten to collaborate. Whenever you have the itch again, you are always welcome to board the Coding Train and say hello to your many fans! Looking forward to staying in touch! I hope to stop by the goodbye stream!
Thank you so much, Daniel! Being on your stream in New York was one of the coolest moments of my career on many levels - what a privilege it is to have gotten to know people like you! I hope to be on your show soon again! Choo CHOO! 💛
Three years ago already.
I miss this show.
I hope you feel better.
He came back!
You taught me Promises, I'll never forget that.
Is this a promise?

"If you're confused, you're learning." That was one of the most helpful things I've ever heard. Thank you for what you've done Mattias. You've helped me get a developer job and I'll always be grateful to you.
Exactly! This is one of the very powerful concepts I learned from MPJ.
Boy, I must be REALLY learning then. ;-)
the best proverb ever it helped me through my life a lot
I rarely comment on youtube videos, but I just have to say this:
You kept me hungry, and you helped me keep my job in so many ways you can't imagine.
Just like me, there's thousand on who you also had such a huge impact.
You'll be missed mister, take care
Learned javascript because of your channel and have the courage to share it in my channel because of you.. thank you so much Mattias, You'll be missed
iya pak bagus channel nya, penjelasan nya mudah di mengerti
You are an inspiring human being MPJ, wish you best of success. Thanks for everything
+1
Mattias, I'm both SO excited for your new chapter and feel really sad that you're closing this chapter of your life (for now). You were one of the very first tech youtubers I talked to when I first started, and I seriously loved all of our deep conversations about life, tech, youtubing, and mental health. Getting to meet you and Isa in Sweden last summer was absolutely a highlight of my year, and Scott and I reminisce often about that night. I love that you're following a passion of yours and found a great intersection between code and mental health -- I can't help but think this has been brewing and in the works for many months! I know you're going to love working as a developer again, and that the impact you make there will be immeasurable and profound too.Thank you so much for creating and leading this incredible community on UA-cam; you've been such an incredible role model to me and will continue to be so 💖Sending so much love and energy to you and Isa as you step into the next chapter of your life.
Right back at you, Mayuko! That visit was amazing - meeting people of your caliber truly was one of the big treasures of FFF till be sure, and I really hope to meet you again in the not too distant future. Onwards!!
I got the confidence to believe in my work is from you. I can’t thank you enough! I pray for all the love and happiness to you. We love you ❤️
Matt, are you Sámi?
I’d like to use this occasion to give a big thank you to both of you, Mattias and Mayuko. Both of you are my favourite tech-related personalities, not only because of your knowledge, but also for the amazing people that you both are. Thank you both for sharing part of your lives with us, for reminding us that we must take care of ourselves and the people around us and for showing us that we can (and must) use technology to help make this world a better place for everyone. Both of you are a true inspiration for me (and I think for many others). A sincere thank you and my best wishes for both of you!!!

I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING
I'm just sad that I discovered this amazing channel after its end. I would've loved to have joined the community
Same, hoping for a return! :)
Note that there is a community in Discord that is still alive. But on UA-cam the videos have stopped 😥
Still waiting for the return of MPJ. I feel like UA-cam needs you more than ever, especially after what the world has become.
What has the works become? 🤔
@@caiolins2495 More chaotic, impatient, selfish. MPJ was altruistic, focusing on a greater good. He had the ability to make everyone feel like they got this, even though we all feel like imposters in a state of constant doubt. His explanations were and still are some of the best ever. The dev community needs more MPJ. We have creators trying to make $$$ off other peoples sweat and tears, and throwing a tantrum when caught-looking at you Theo t3.
Dude, your'e one of the reasons i am working as a developer for almost two years now, your'e a LEGEND, never forget that!
When I was 22 I lost my last parent which was my mother and now that I'm 25, after struggling with depression for over 10 years, it is very important that you leave any toxic environment you are in. Whether it is your job, your household or any other relationship. If it does bad things to you, drop out. I have been so often attempting to end it all that I've came to that conclusion.
❤️
Hey there from 3 years later. I hope you’re doing well saverraptor
Sometimes I come back to this video and just reflect on all the impact you've had in my life. Miss you
What an impact this channel has had on the world ❤️❤️❤️ You'll be missed on YT; best of luck moving forward!
The man himself.. You are blessing our lives too, I hope you are ok so you can keep with us.
I totally understand mental health. I struggled with suicide in my early teens. And was in the mental health system for several years. Funny that my desire to be a developer is what ended up making me want to get better. I spent all of my time in mental hospitals reading programming books, and writing code on paper. This was at a time when they would often give your thorazine. This was way back in the late 90s, early 2000s. My ability to be a good programmer is what helped me rise above my circumstances. As I get older, and social media exposes more people. I find that people I wouldn't even expect, are suffering mental issues. I use to be ashamed of my past, but now I think it's my greatest strength. From being institutionalized for 2 years, to a near 20 year career as a developer. Don't underestimate the power of your message and platform here.
You’re a legend for damn sure! You’ve helped me not only with JS, but inspiration for my channel and streaming. Good luck in your journey brother!
Sometimes I click on this channel just to see if you're back. Hope you're doing well mate.
It took a lot of courage to do this, to be a knowledge bearer, and it took balls of steel to share your story, what happened to your mom. You helped me learn HOFs and functional programming, and I'm certainly appreciative. But it's your personality and your grace that make you truly unique. You have helped so many, and even as you close the door on fun fun functions, you inspire each of us to follow our paths with dedication and conviction...and gratitude...and fun. I'll be following you, Mathias. Thanks a million for fff, and I can't wait to see what's next. XO!
those who cannot actually do ..."teach" ....pretty simple ...
Holding my tears here, friend. Take care, we love you, and "stay curious".
I found myself crying by the latter half of this. You will be sorely missed. Fun Fun Function has been a huge blessing for my curiosity and my career. The world is rooting for you, always.
You were one of the first educators I discovered when I decided to become a developer. You've been hugely motivating and inspiring. Good luck in all you do!
Holding my tears here. As usual, food for thought! Thank you for sharing awestruck inspiring insights, habits, and knowledge. All the best on your new journey. I'm sure you're going to keep impacting a plethora of human beings besides yourself.
Oh, 2020, just couldn't get better!🤦♂️
Just so you know, you're not just in our screens, you're in our hearts MPJ 💛❤️💛
Wish you best of luck ... and until some Monday, we'll stay curious 🙂
Throughout my programming journey, you are one of the most coolest devs I know and I have learned so much from you. I may be a lurker on the community but I really had fun watching your videos. I'm really thankful that you created this channel as a medium to share your knowledge and help aspiring developers like me. You always give me motivation to succeed in my dreams of being a developer. You taught me to always "stay curious" and I really thank you for that.
Good luck on your next journey mpj! Can't wait to see the projects around mental health that you'll build with Mindler.
Love from the Philippines ❤️
Love from sweden 💛
"Stay curious" was the best way to finish the video that puts a break into the channel. I wish you luck and success on the new journey you are starting. Thanks MPJ!
I always came back to this channel when I needed to boost my motivation for work. And never did it fail. Good luck MPJ in all your future endeavours and thank you 🙏❤️
It was so good to see "tech" human being so emotionally open, not shying away from hard topics. Thank you and good luck :)
Interesting timing. I just opened UA-cam, thinking "I'm gonna watch some FFF" and this video JUST dropped.
I will miss FFF very much, but I am very happy for you.
Having been through some things myself, I believe mental health is VERY important, but often very neglected as well. It's great that a mental health startup will have the power of MPJ on their team.
Best of luck to you, and thank you so much for Fun Fun Function.
Me too. I woke up today thinking about FFF and even joked about "good monday morning" in our team daily. Sad news.
Thank You so much. I have learned a lot from you and would still be watching your old videos. Thanks for devoting so much of your time and effort in doing so. Thank You
I started to watch you a couple of years ago. Thank you for all the great videos and wish you nothing but health and happiness!
I have taught hundreds of students to be full stack Javascript Engineers at a leading US Bootcamp and can't tell you how much you have helped our community of ambitious but nervous career-changers. You have helped them see that this work can be fun and accessible. You helped them navigate challenging new concepts. Both helped make their journeys easier.
I used to give links to your videos to students as they struggled with specific concepts from time-to-time as a complement to what we did. Sometimes the enthusiasm and joy of your videos gave them a needed respite from the rigors and challenges of our program (all while moving their skills forward).
When I started noticing they were discovering you and passing around your videos amongst themselves, I danced a little jig. They were learning to use the web to advance their own knowledge and they found you as helpful and empowering as I had hoped.
Thank you for your years of contribution to our community. We will miss you.
Take care 👍And congrats on working with Mindler this is a beautiful project! It is important to care about mental health.
Hey, MPJ!
I just now saw this on my feed when I opened UA-cam, so I didn't get to attend the Goodbye Live Stream event, and I'm sad I missed it...
But!
I just wanted to tell you that YOUR videos helped me execute a career reboot: I shut down my "working stiff at a dead-end job" self, and installed a fresh new "passionate IT professional" operating system. Now I'm working with big data and solving interesting problems for a living, and it's all because of content creators and virtual mentors like YOU, who helped me pick up tech skills in my spare time. YOUR videos in particular were essential study material while I was working on my Front-End Web Developer Nanodegree at Udacity. I am a new man today, barely recognizable from my 5-years-ago self, and YOU played a central part in that transformation.
Thank you for everything you've done, for me and for this community. I hope this change of pace helps you heal, and gives you the time and perspective necessary to decide on your next move.
Much love and gratitude, from Iowa, USA,
James
Thank you very much for everything you've done. I'm a lurker on all your videos but you've taught me so much. My sincerest congratulations on your new path, may more great things happen to you and through you. Thanks again.
Dude, you made me cry! I’ll never forget your “composition over inheritance” video, it is definitely in my favourite pool 😄 thanks and all the best!
I have grown as a developer during the life cycle of this channel, really appreciate the work and content you have provided to the whole community.
love from India.
Thank you, your videos motivated me a lot. I rebember those boring days sitting in the office, waiting for the workday to end, then clicking on one of your videos and immediately going motivated back, feeling like some gears inside start rolling again. Good luck mpjme !
Thanks for putting so much passion into your videos. I learned a lot from you. I wish you happiness and success in your future endeavours.
Thank you for this journey, I started loving FP thanks to you and I started a UA-cam channel inspired on what you did so far. We will miss you and for many you are a reference to the world. Until the next one, good journey Matias. This is just the beginning.
It has been a privilege to have a teacher, mentor, someone with an insight like you. You make the audience completely forget about the unhealthy robotic competitive mindset and just discover the child like curiosity and grow with it. It wasn’t just development you taught and i am grateful for it
This literally had me in tears. 😭 You taught me so much!!!
I will miss you. :(
Thank you so much for all you've done to help others and for all you'll keep doing in the future. You are inspiring!
I love this video. I’m really happy that people are spreading more and more often the message that mental health is really important and this it must be destigmatized. I also really love how passionately you talk about it. And one other thing that I love is hearing you say that this really makes you happy (and it seems that you actually mean it). Best of luck in this new job and thanks a ton for all your videos!!!
I was introduced to this channel by my senior while i started off my journey as a JS developer and since then i've been a fan, follower, student, disciple. The suave and the ease of learning you bring to the table is unparalleled. I've been spreading the channel all this while and will continue to do so.
I will be waiting for that sabbatical to end and to hear that iconic "Good Monday Morning" once again.
Untill then, we'll continue to learn and get inspired by the one and only @MPJ.
Thank you for creating it.
Take care, Stay blessed, lots of love and wishes from all of us, We are with you.
Your videos made me to learn JS in a better way and I still remember every Monday I was excited to watch your new video. Thank you for this channel.
Thank you sooo much MPJ, I learned lots of javascript from your videos, you are an inspiration to me. I wish you more luck on your next venture
I've been watching for 4 years, and you've helped me more than any other source. Mental health is indeed extremely important, hopefully this will help people struggling help themselves also. I'm one of those people and may soon finally start talking. Thank you for everything and all the best to you. We'll be here if and when you come back. Stay safe and enjoy your new journey ❤️
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have ever taught me. Literally everything starting from js -> I have begun to learn from you. I appreciate the worth you have given to our community more than my meagre words can convey. I hope you take this on to your more than worthy cause. Chapeau x
Chapeau, Marek. Those were some words, makes my heart melt, thank you. ❤️
Thank you so much for all your time and generosity! Your videos and insights were a huge help back when I was getting started with web development, and I've come back to the channel often to catch up on things. Wishing you all the best!
Thank you very much for your time, effort, knowledge, passion, and generosity. I have enjoyed watching your videos and appreciate you and what you've done. Best wishes!
Take care MPJ, you've been a massive inspiration for me as a software engineer. Thanks for helping me grow and stay curious.
I still remember, when I was preparing for interviews for a job. I would always search for something on UA-cam regarding javascript and you were there on the top results. I remember picking up your videos, as they were "fun". Thankyou so much, for everything 🙂
Your "failing together" videos were some of the most influential pieces of media to me and my career as a developer and a tutor. It was thanks to your videos that I (mostly) overcame my fear of failure, and I now use my own mistakes to show people that developers are, above all, human. Additionally, it also showed me that one can teach programming without jargon or complicated scenarios. And above all, you taught me by example, as I believe one always should.
I really REALLY can't thank you enough for all your contributions, and for how influential you were on my career! Thank you so much!
I learned most of things I know, from you, and not only about programming, but also about staying existed and fighting procrastination. You made huge impact on my life, I can only imagine how many more people improved their lives because of you, and I know there will be much more, with path you've chosen. This was very emotional 'last episode'. THANK YOU.
Take care and thanks for everything! Changing is always difficult but you need to do what's best for you :)
This got me: “last good Monday morning”. Thank you Fun Fun Function, you really made programming enjoyable for me but more so with all the meta videos. All the best for the future MPJ!
Thank you so much for all that you taught us. :)
I am also grateful you shared your story as to how important your new adventure is and we're all here to cheer you on! I smiled at the same time as you when you said that you were "feeling really really good about joining them". I hope I can find an opportunity to make software in this practice as well as I've been learning how valuable mindfulness, support, and mental stability is after decades of ignoring it. All the best MPJ!
Huge props dude, battling anxiety myself. Love your work, and I'm damn happy knowing you're taking such a bold career move.

It is my deepest wish that the kind person we have come to know through FFF continues to grow and thrive more, outpacing any negative feelings or demons you may have, by exponential amounts no matter which direction in life you take. We love you, sibling programmer.
Enjoyed watching and learning from this channel when I was starting out. I salute you for your invaluable service
Thank you mpj. You helped me develop my confidence as a programmer and have so much to be proud of.
I absolutely respect and support your decision. We live to create.
I teach frontend development professionally and I don't know how many students I've sent your way. You will be missed. But your videos are still with us, and we're proud of you and your decision to focus - not only on the simple joy of JUST coding - but on helping humanity find ways to talk through our problems and our relationships.
Mental health is such an incredibly central and pressing need. Good health! I hope to see you on Monday morning. Either way, stay curious and thank you so, so much.
Thank you for all the good vibes, motivation and inspiring videos that you've created. Best of luck!
Only a few people are able to put not only great content into educational videos, but also a piece of their heart. And you are definitely one of them and the best of them. I wish you good luck on your journey through life.

And today Brad Traversy announced he's doing something similar, although not permanently, he's "taking a vacation of UA-cam".
I guess teaching programming is so exhausting because technology is changing so fast it's freaking difficult to keep pace with it and learn the new stuff in timely manner.
All the best to you and I hope you'll find what you're looking for.
Greetings from Prague.
It definitely is hard. But I think the key is to just do whatever interests you the most in tech. But also sometimes you just need a break :)
I haven’t developed professionally in over 13 years, but I learned a tremendous amount from your content. I’m now responsible for leading an organization that has many talented developers and I’ve used your videos to help me better understand what is important to development teams and even get some skills myself to help work though challenges (without laying code of course). I’ve shared your content with our tech leaders through the years and I suspect they themselves continued learning from you. Best of luck and thank you generously sharing your insights on practices and attaining satisfaction in one’s efforts.
