Solar Surge will teach you all about being energy independent and how to set up your home to run off-the-grid during an emergency. We empower families to take control of their energy generation and storage so that they will never be left in the dark without electricity.
In this video, Joe explains the various factors that go into choosing the best solar inverter platform for 2024.

Please get rid of the background music, It interferes with your content.
yes
Agreed. Your channel is extremely informative, no need for distracting background music. Thank you for the education and honesty over the last two years.
Background music was so loud I had to stop the video, couldn't focus on the actual content
Hello, do you recommend one over the other for long runs? I'm installing a ground mount system 175' from the house. thx
Good info.
I like to just have a back up inverter, instead of the micro inverters..And have never considered anything but a DIY off grid system, and combine being off grid with using less energy..My system is only 30KW battery made from (32) 280 Ah Catl cells, 2 JK BMS's, Eg4 6000 XP all in one inverter/solar charge controller/AC charger and 6000 watts of solar panels..Price of under $7,000 and supplies everything we need..And has already paid for itself, in 3 and a half years..I did just recently change inverters, but now have a very good back up inverter..
How do you converge the different ACs from the individual panels? What does that look like (electrically)? (in enphase)
There are lots of Enphase DIY videos on UA-cam that cover that from panel connecting to inverters to installing Enphase Combiner Boxes and pretty much the entire system.
Enphase provides a trunking cable that essentially makes one large parallel connection between the mirco-inverters.
Since we have 2 electric cars, the DC coupled plus battery sounds correct. Which systems should i consider?
Tesla or SolarEdge
What is the conversion loss for DC vs AC?
With a battery and microinverters what is the conversion loss?
Microinverters (AC coupled) like Enphase are said to convert electricity at least twice (DC to AC at each solar panel) and then back from AC to DC for battery and EV charging, etc. and are around 95% efficient while (DC coupled) like SolarEdge are said to be close to 99% efficent. It is fact that every time you convert electricity from DC to AC or from AC to DC you will lose at least a small amount of electricity during the conversion process (conversions are never 100% and also you will often lose more due to heat being created also). Same is true for any electrical device and even kitchen appliances or an HVAC or an extension cord is losing electricity when they create heat. The efficiency of Solar Batteries will vary by brand and type of chemistry in the battery like Lithium Ion or Nickel Cadmium and some people still use car batteries (lead acid). ----- If you have a large number of solar panels that create more electricity than you use then the efficiency losses may not seem important to you but if you have a small roof and or small number of solar panels it may be more important that you get every bit of electrical power that you can from your system.
Thanks @@Bowhunters6go8xz6x. But how much is my question is how much; i e. the quantitative amount.
Based on what you're saying, it would be a 1-5% power loss each conversion? So for microinverters plus a battery, it would be at best about 90% efficient? (95%x95%)
@@lukeroode6993 - SolarEdge (DC system) claims their batteries are 94.5% efficient which is probably the best out there.
(Franklin Whole Home) batteries are said to be around 90%
Enphase batteries say they are are around 89% efficient (round trip) AC to DC and then back DC to AC ! -------- (Lead Acid) car batteries will be the worst as they get hot easily during charging and discharging at high rates and you can only discharge them a very small amount compared to Lithium Ion or Nickel Cadmium batteries.
Enphase = best quality and no fires due to high voltage wires on the roof 😊
I scheduled a 30-minute Solar Business Strategy zoom Call but unfortunately no one joined
My SolarEdge failed after 4 years. Currently waiting for it to be replaced. Hope it don't take too long my installer called them and they said they would send a replacement on Dec 18, 2023. 😔(They replaced it with a new one today 1/2/2024) 🥰
That's the concern with these big brand companies, scarce parts. The plus side with third party DIY parts is that they are plentiful and swappable.
Would love to see videos on how inverters handle surges, and how to prevent surges. $40k investment, taken out by lightning, would not be fun
You’re great but background music makes this hard to watch, too much
APSYSTEMS + STORAGE
Clickbait this entire videos does not recommend and real inverters and pricing.
Music makes this unwatchable
Stop that stupid music, please.
