link dont work
Will it work if i made it a bit bigger for a possum?
Absolutely brilliant. I love building traps.
The way that squirrel jumped out of the trap is me leaving work on Fridays
I really like that you put the parts list and the video was very well done. I'll be making one of these in the next week or so. Thanks a million!
Except for the part in the parts list he doesn't mention, that he didn't buy 24" x 5"/6.5" he fabricated them out of 1x4 because it's impossible to find those cuts. took me a minute to figure out after I read the list then inspecting the grain at a camera shot at the open door told the story.
Thank you 😊 I’m glad that the squirrel 🪤 work!!!🐿️🪤🐿️🐿️😍😍😍😍🙏🫶🏻
I recently made a copy of this trap and found it very well thought out and effective . Could I be bold enough to suggest something that might make it simpler again. I fitted a 2" screw on the roof of the box close to where the door hinge is, then I cut out 1" square sections of roofing lead sheet, drilled a hole in the center so that the finished product resembled a washer. All i have to do now is to pop whatever number of these required over the screw which will give me the perfect balance needed to operate the trap. No need to reposition the " fulcrum" screws or the "doorstop" on the base. Thank you Chris for sharing your invention. I am now in the process of making your plastic pipe version of the invention as this will be lighter and easier to transport. Thanks so much
That's great! I will be uploading another trap soon that uses an easy to find 6" furnace vent pipe and uses a simpler different type of door and is just as fun to make. Stay tuned!
Best squirrel trap idea. Made one. Had to tweak it a couple of times and now it works 100% of the times. Added a roller catch at the bottom side plus 2 tiny neodymium magnets. No door bounce. Thanks.
Good stuff! I"d love to see a pic of it! You can send it to me if you like to chrisnotap@gmail.com Thanks!
I built a trap mimicking this design with a few tweaks. Lots of success!! The only thing I may do differently if I make another will to make it slightly longer than 24"
You're right Chris, better unit for sure. I think the wood is more natural and won't crack like pvc. .Great job.
+Steve T Thanks.
Chris Notap are you in Massacusettes. I just built the pvc version, now i want to build this.
I like this even more than your pvc version. Both are really cool. I was actually starting to design one in my wood shop today.
Good simple design, excellent craftsmanship...perfection!
If you change the location of the pivot point you will need to adjust the wire trip, and the wood stop. The more adjustable you make it the better. Great design I might try it.
Thank you for the great idea, great video on how it works, and how you built it. I built one similar and captured a pesky chipmunk in 2 hours after building and found him a new home. One thing I did a little different was I put a hinge on both ends and used latch hooks to hold it when moving. The ability to open the other end made it easy to load and clean out.
Excellent idea!! Hinges are a buck anyway. I am about to make my second and will go with a double door. Thanks for the tip dude!
I made a stripped down version of this and have caught five squirrels so far (in about 4 days), and it looks like at least two more to go. Works well; do use quality screen though as mine is getting thrashed.
This deserves a thumbs up!!
TY! This is exactly what I was looking for to Trap feral cats. Will be making it larger and with Chicken Wire around all-weather Fence wood. The Wood will only be the skeleton of the Rectangle Box while the chicken wire wraps around it. The Base will still be solid wood. Will be adding a Handle that is comfortable off of Amazon.
Pure genius! ❤
Awesome design. Very effective! Been catching at least one per day :) got tired of them digging in our garden. I simply use a little peanut butter on a piece of cardboard placed in the back of the trap and lay out some empty peanut shells at the entrance. They can't resist PB ;) Thanks for sharing your trap design!
Yes, they do like peanut butter also.
What is the best rabbit bait in summer time?
I love your precision and practicality.
If only you ran the world...
Wow brilliant I made one as instructions I caught three squirrels in two days thank you
Glad it helped!
Great video thank you the detail in this video was amazing clear video straight to the point thanks again
This is awesome, first squirrel in 45 minutes...worked perfect!! Now about 7 more to be relocated to save my bird feeders.
Thoughts of a squirrel:“Ah, this is a bad ideaaaa....there is a nut inside....ahh no, bad idea.....but the nut is calling my name!!!... (crawls inside) no...bad idea....but a little closer and I can (clunk!!!) DARN IT!!! I knew this was a bad idea!!!”
Merci from Montreal, Canada.
This is a cannon and the squirrel is the ball!
Thank you
You're welcome
Clever and cheap!
Hi Chris,
My name is Becca and I was hoping you could help me out.
My son is in 3rd grade and they are in the beginnings of their 3rd grade end of year projects. They have to choose one of three different subjects - woodworking, fibers, or cooking. There will be a written report, a construction, and oral presentation. My son chose woodworking.
We came across your teeter totter squirrel trap video and loved the idea! Do you happen to have written instructions that my son could read to build this project? Or maybe any recommendations on books or online articles that give information/ step by step instruction? The video is great, but his teacher is expecting the students to read and learn about their chosen project.
Thank you so much and appreciate your time!
Becca
Hi Becca. I did get your email. I would say this is a bit advanced for a 3rd grader. There are power tool involved, measuring accurately, cordless drill for screws and then getting it balanced properly would be difficult. I'm thinking a mouse trap might be easier. Have a look at one of my other videos where I make a mouse trap from a 2 litre pop bottle. Here's that video.....ua-cam.com/video/ABffYDM9EwU/v-deo.html or there is this one I also made......ua-cam.com/video/EjsBV25Z5rU/v-deo.html
Built this last Friday. Put it out with peanuts and door propped open for three days. I observed the peanuts were taken in early morning or early evening. Caught the first one this morning! Drove him about 6 miles away and released him. He was apparently stressed from the experience and didn't want to leave the box so I had to tilt the box to encourage him to leave. Only change I made was with regards to the wood block that holds the door shut - I used a stiff piece of wire as a spring catch instead. The wood block was too sensitive to setup and would occasionally prevent the door from closing. You can see the design by looking up video called "Improved Rabbit Box" by The Meat Trapper.
3 squirrels in 3 days! A successful project indeed!
Great mechanism design , GJ
Great idea... as long as they don't jump on top of it first.
Yes that's correct. I found after making the video that a small cardboard box placed over the rear half works perfectly.
@@chrisnotap You are correct... as I saw in your other video.... you are ONE SMART CAT....LOL.
Good old UA-cam stock music library
Very nifty idea
Wonderful design, I appreciate that.
your a genius!!! going to build one now. thanks!!!
Have fun!
Peanut butter is irresistible to squirrels
Brilliant
EXCELLENT.
How cool... Chris!
Nice
caught two squirrels with this
looking forward to catch more
This is really cool. What a gift.
ingenious
Thank you so much
I like that intro!
still love this design !!!
Smart design.
BRILLIANT 💖👍
Genius
Good idea
Very nice thank you for sharing
"I knew it !! I knew it was a Trap!!
So why'd you go in?
'Cause maybe it wasn't a Trap.
Moved 8 this fall. Works Great!
You probably moved the same squirrel 8 times, genius.
Hi Chris, thank you for sharing this wonderful trap. I’ve read a lot of comments but you have too many. Anyways, I have a squirrel in my attic and I will build your trap design and see if to wrks. I like your design and admire it very much much, well thought out 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That squirrel launched like a javelin missile
He got out of there fast!!
hi there nice trap . squirrels have done so much damage here . they chew every thing . was trading but the law here on relocating is so crazy . got 38 last year 56 year before . john
Real Nice trap... Pure smatness ! 👍👍👍
Simple but brilliant, nice job Sir
Thanks man!
That is amazing. Thank you so much.
I am going to try to make a larger one to catch ferral cats.
Would you have any suggestions in that regard?
Thanks again
I would say you could probably scale this to what ever you want to catch. Yes, just make it bigger.
Put a squirrel inside.
Two words... Tuna Fish..!! : ) !
good
Kereen 👍👍👍
genius! thx
if it wasn't a trap it would be a great squirrel home!
rat trap more
It would have to be bigger tho
BELLA trappola
BRAVO
👍👍👍👍
👏👏👏👏
what kind of tools do you recommend to cut the wood to make these wood pieces? We are completely new to buying tools and using them to make things. I am a mom and want to help my boys make this trap. thanks
Nice idea, and if the squirrel gets ride on top if it, infront, the door will closed without catching anyone
wow thank you so very much for this nice explainable video.
Made this the other day- 1st squirrel in 10 minutes
Brilliant!
Thanks!
Muito interessante, fiz uma de forno de microondas pra capturar gatos, a tampa é nesse estilo, vendo seu invento vou adptar uma aste para disparar, obrigado
this seems very clever and thought through ...so well done..congrats
excellent
Portable squirrel cannon should be the title.
Thanks for this video
Nice trap.
Great job 👍
I will be making this as well,
I can't wait 👍👌😃😎.
Hope you enjoy
Another excellent one Chris. The Squirrels in my garden keep digging up and killing my two to three year old palm tree crop that I grow and give out to the public for the environment. I could build one of those and relocate the villains to a park about 5 miles away. Hmmm! Can I do that? Is it cruel? I have already given out about 1300 trees so I cold just live with it. All my trees now have plastic collars on them that does stop the villain squirrels. They do still irritate me though and I did lose about thirty trees to them. I am torn, still not certain whether to relocate them!
I like the window in the box, very human with light and air. Thank you for sharing your amazing video
Thanks for that.
Muy interesante la trampa ratones
Un sistema genial. Muy inteligente.
Very clever thank you
Smeared peanut butter on the back wall & then threw in sunflower seeds
Thats very skilled old school wood craftmanship. I like the whole design. May I ask how many working hours put into that design to implementation to completion? Thats a project I would enjoy doing just for the sheer fun. Think a mix of Lincoln logs and erector set combined for Adults.👍
really smart.. and so simple..
Very nice job with this.
Thanks!!
Very nice.
I watched this 7 times and I'm sure I saw the same squirrel get caught and released to the same back yard over and over. Relocating 20+ squirrels is a lot of work. This gave me a great idea to trap squirrels for dinner with a rat trap in the back.
I relocate mine across a major river LOL
Good idea!
That squirrel, it knows, but it still goes.
i like , simple and eficient
I take my trapped squirrels to the local park. They seem to enjoy it(give me high fives when I go there to walk/run). It has a skate park, tennis court, frisbee golf, and lots of oak trees.
It's not giving you a "high five." Look closely, it's the middle finger.
I did not see spec for the base. Did I miss that?..thks..jc
nice trap good job.
What's the point if you will not remove the little pests? Diff view on them.
peanut butter, butter & honey make a lure they have a hard time resisting
Bagus..bermanfaat.terima kasih
EXCELLENT!
Which TRAP works better? this or the the PVC
Both are equally effective. One tip I've learned is to put a small cardboard box over the rear half to prevent them from climbing on it and setting it off.
that's a great idea thanx I'm going PVC
I'll let you know how it goes. the havahart trap isn't working @@chrisnotap
Liked!
Robertson screws. You are probably from Canada. 😉
