      Except for the part in the parts list he doesn't mention, that he didn't buy 24" x 5"/6.5" he fabricated them out of 1x4 because it's impossible to find those cuts. took me a minute to figure out after I read the list then inspecting the grain at a camera shot at the open door told the story.

    I recently made a copy of this trap and found it very well thought out and effective . Could I be bold enough to suggest something that might make it simpler again. I fitted a 2" screw on the roof of the box close to where the door hinge is, then I cut out 1" square sections of roofing lead sheet, drilled a hole in the center so that the finished product resembled a washer. All i have to do now is to pop whatever number of these required over the screw which will give me the perfect balance needed to operate the trap. No need to reposition the " fulcrum" screws or the "doorstop" on the base. Thank you Chris for sharing your invention. I am now in the process of making your plastic pipe version of the invention as this will be lighter and easier to transport. Thanks so much

      That's great! I will be uploading another trap soon that uses an easy to find 6" furnace vent pipe and uses a simpler different type of door and is just as fun to make. Stay tuned!

    Best squirrel trap idea. Made one. Had to tweak it a couple of times and now it works 100% of the times. Added a roller catch at the bottom side plus 2 tiny neodymium magnets. No door bounce. Thanks.

    If you change the location of the pivot point you will need to adjust the wire trip, and the wood stop. The more adjustable you make it the better. Great design I might try it.

    Thank you for the great idea, great video on how it works, and how you built it. I built one similar and captured a pesky chipmunk in 2 hours after building and found him a new home. One thing I did a little different was I put a hinge on both ends and used latch hooks to hold it when moving. The ability to open the other end made it easy to load and clean out.

The Wood will only be the skeleton of the Rectangle Box while the chicken wire wraps around it. The Base will still be solid wood. Will be adding a Handle that is comfortable off of Amazon.

    Awesome design. Very effective! Been catching at least one per day :) got tired of them digging in our garden. I simply use a little peanut butter on a piece of cardboard placed in the back of the trap and lay out some empty peanut shells at the entrance. They can't resist PB ;) Thanks for sharing your trap design!

    Hi Chris,
    My name is Becca and I was hoping you could help me out.
    My son is in 3rd grade and they are in the beginnings of their 3rd grade end of year projects. They have to choose one of three different subjects - woodworking, fibers, or cooking. There will be a written report, a construction, and oral presentation. My son chose woodworking.
    We came across your teeter totter squirrel trap video and loved the idea! Do you happen to have written instructions that my son could read to build this project? Or maybe any recommendations on books or online articles that give information/ step by step instruction? The video is great, but his teacher is expecting the students to read and learn about their chosen project.
    Thank you so much and appreciate your time!
    Becca

    • @chrisnotap
      @chrisnotap  6 місяців тому

      Hi Becca. I did get your email. I would say this is a bit advanced for a 3rd grader. There are power tool involved, measuring accurately, cordless drill for screws and then getting it balanced properly would be difficult. I'm thinking a mouse trap might be easier. Have a look at one of my other videos where I make a mouse trap from a 2 litre pop bottle. Here's that video.....ua-cam.com/video/ABffYDM9EwU/v-deo.html or there is this one I also made......ua-cam.com/video/EjsBV25Z5rU/v-deo.html

    Built this last Friday. Put it out with peanuts and door propped open for three days. I observed the peanuts were taken in early morning or early evening. Caught the first one this morning! Drove him about 6 miles away and released him. He was apparently stressed from the experience and didn't want to leave the box so I had to tilt the box to encourage him to leave. Only change I made was with regards to the wood block that holds the door shut - I used a stiff piece of wire as a spring catch instead. The wood block was too sensitive to setup and would occasionally prevent the door from closing. You can see the design by looking up video called "Improved Rabbit Box" by The Meat Trapper.

    Another excellent one Chris. The Squirrels in my garden keep digging up and killing my two to three year old palm tree crop that I grow and give out to the public for the environment. I could build one of those and relocate the villains to a park about 5 miles away. Hmmm! Can I do that? Is it cruel? I have already given out about 1300 trees so I cold just live with it. All my trees now have plastic collars on them that does stop the villain squirrels. They do still irritate me though and I did lose about thirty trees to them. I am torn, still not certain whether to relocate them!
