Big error! The photo at (0:50) is NOT the Apollo 1 capsule in which the three astronauts died. What is pictured is the one-man Mercury Liberty Bell 7 which was launched on a suborbital flight in 1961. The Mercury capsule sank just after splashdown with astronaut Gus Grissom being saved just in time. The photo is of the capsule after it was recovered from the deep in 1999. Sadly Grissom was one of the astronauts killed in the Apollo 1 fire in 1967.
Good catch, my friend.
Yes, the Mercury capsule type is easily distinguished from the later capsules.
Rest in peace, Bert Lahr. I will remember you for your portayal of the Cowardly Lion who wasn't a coward after all.
When I saw that Charles Beaumont died from Alzheimer's disease at age 37, I thought it was a misprint.
But it was no mistake. I looked it up. I knew dementia could happen at an early age, but Beaumont was afflicted in his early 30s. His own son said he looked like he was 95 at the time of his death. So sad
was Charles Beaumont related to Hugh Beaumont (Leave It to Beaver) or Livingston Beaumont (Jackie Brown)?
Charles Beaumont was an amazing writer. So very sorry he died so young.
@@johnbrennan4449Hugh "Beaumont" was actually Hugh Bussman. In those days, Jewish actors Anglicized their names.
Also: Françoise Dorléac, 25, French film star. Older sister of Catherine Deneueve. Most notable films were in The Soft Skin (dir. Francois Truffaut), Cul-De-Sac (dir. Roman Polanski), and The Young Girls of Rochefort (dir. Jacques Demy). She was driving to the airport in Nice when she lost control of her vehicle; it flipped over off the road, burst into flames and she was unable to escape. RIP.
Not quite. In Notes On A Cowardly Lion Bert Lahr's son John author of the book said he died of lung cancer but he NEVER knew he was battling lung cancer! (He was 72.)
How can you be typecast as a lion? 😂
Bert Lahr was typecast as a lion after the Wizard of Oz. "There aren't many parts for lions".
He was also in ads for Lay's Potato Chips. "De-Lay-cious!"
Bert Lahr was actually a classically trained actor and later in his career, pursued straight dramatic roles in the theater. In fact, he was in the original Broadway production of Waiting for Godot.
@@meggieh69 I've only seen him in 1930s movies doing comedy.
A fun fact about Jane Darwell: Her last film appearance was as the lady featured in the "Feed the Birds" sequence in Mary Poppins.
The Bar-Kays were just babies. God bless their souls.
Very sad.
Don’t forget the Italian racing driver Lorenzo Bandini, killed in a fiery collision during the Monaco Grand Prix on May 10, 1967.
Very nicely done. I’ve been admiring your work for a few months now and have been anxiously awaiting the 1960s. You do a great job of selecting the notables from various aspects of society and from around the world. Thank you!
Thank you very much!
@@inmemoriam2000You’re welcome. I am involved with in a preservation project for Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald materials (photos, music, film, original scripts and letters). Eddy would have been pleased with the descriptor “renowned baritone”.
Explain how Jack Foley died in 1967 but he is known for his work on the film "The Conversation" which came out in 1974.@@AngelaM55
Forgot to mention American author Carson McCullers, who also died in 1967 at age 50. She died of a heart ailment (had been in declining health for years.
Ms. McCullers wrote novels, novellas and short stories ("The Heart is a Lonely Hunter",
"The Member of the Wedding",
"The Ballad of the Sad Cafe", and much more).
She was a good friend of playwright Tennessee Williams.
But the oversight is understandable; only so much can be fit into the time-space of the video.
These are GREAT tributes to GREAT people!
One of the funniest Bert Lahr moments I remember came on What's My Line? as mystery guest in 1963. Jean Byron guessed him after Bennett Cerf asked him if he ever played a lion in a movie! The Cowardly Lion was also how Yogi Bear's Snagglepuss character derived!
Thank you for including the members of The Bar-Kays. Very sad event for them all, especially being so young.
Sometimes life can be the luck of the draw.
No problem!
I didn't realize they were teenagers :(

RIP
AMEN 🙏
Didn't Robert Taylor also die in 1967? I was looking for him, but missed him.
No, he died in 1969.
Reginald Denny was also the truck driver horribly beaten during the Rodney King riots - THAT'S where I knew the name from...
Spencer Tracy.
Vivien Leigh.
John Coltrane.
Jayne Mansfield.
Rest in peace.
Thanks for the video.
Thank you for including Harold Holt. It's difficult to imagine someone disappearing as he did, never to be scene again alive or otherwise. One conspiracy theory had him abducted by a Japanese submarine crew. So very bizarre.
10 years old in 1967 remember the astronauts dying.😢
Even though they passed away a long time ago, we still remember them. As a young person, I'm still watching them.
Loved Anne Sheridan in The Man Who Came To Dinner, she died the day I was born: 21st January 1967.
Lost so many great stars that year. Basil Rathbone was THE only Sherlock Holmes to me. Loved all the films he made.
Choosing Basil Rathbone as best Sherlock Holmes was , "elementary..."
Couldn't agree more!
The Apollo fire caused a big clamor to end the space program.Luckily,it did not happen.
republicans were big on canceling the lunar program since that budget was the same as 'viet nam'. Nixon fought hard in 1969 to keep it funded.
@@SkipFlem Democrats weig on cutting it to fund big welfare programs.
At 3:36. Vladimir, the son of Michael. The brave cosmonaut. He sacrificed his life for his friend, Yuri. Rest in peace, brave soldier.
I am glad he was remembered.
@@teresahegerich8835 Thank you, my lady!
I was born in 1967. Grew knowing a lot of these names. In some small manner, watching this, it feels like the torch was passed...and that in the not too distant future, this kind of video will be playing for my generation after we pass. A stark reminder that life is short and time passes quickly.
Beautiful video. Lost some pretty special people that year. Wizard of oz is my favorite ❤
I love Edward Hopper's paintings. They are always so lonely, quiet, full of introspection and contemplation. Full of people passing in the night, each with a life of hurt and disappointment. His "Nighthawks" is probboy of the most copied and parodied paintings in the 20th century.
John Coltrane. What an artist of the sax. Basil Rathbone. Noted actor and swordsmen as well.
Basil Rathbone, incredible actor, WW1 veteran ( mental health suffered after his brother died in action) and scion of the renowned Liverpool Rathbone family. Superb talent.
There is only ONE TRUE Sherlock Holmes and that is wonderful Basil Rathbone!
Rest In Piece to those who died in 1967 including legendary actor Spencer Tracy who was in poor health before his death due to long term alcoholism at age 67. He was suffering a sudden heart attack when he died at his home while was making coffee and was found by Actress Katherine Hepburn on his kitchen floor. Mariska Hargitays mother Jayne Mansfield tragically died in a car crash with semi when the car she was riding in with her boyfriend and driver both right under the semi crushing the car killing all 3 including Jayne at only age 34.
His lines at the end of Guess Who's Coming To Dinner is nothing short of amazing. Who could ask for a more final amazing memory.
@@thunderdeed1that was a good final film for Spencer Tracy and the fact he got to star with his good friend and favorite co star Katherine Hepburn made it better. Henry Fonda’s last role in On Golden Pond or John Wayne in The Shootist and Clark Gable in The Misfits as some actors last roles sometimes didn’t do well at box office.
the EYES are! the windows of the soul, very moving sir😢
Great tribute, my grandfather was in the Robert Mitchell's choir back in 1941 was in the musical 40 by and a song and he also was in boys town choir with Spencer Tracy in that movie I played a vid of that in my channel 😊, again great tribute to all these great stars
Did your grandfather sing in "The Bishop's Wife," starring David Niven?
I like the way these In Memoriam videos are in strict chronological order.
What did Jack Foley do on The Conversation? It was made 7 years after he died.
They shall live on. In the films and music they made. They will never be forgotten immortalised forever.
So touching...I was only 9 years old when all these wonderful people passed.....And I'm happy who made this video kept their memories alive & never forgotten!
❤ Charles Bickford starred in a great western called A Big Country great movie and also Harold Holt's drowning was very suspicious
I think he was murdered love Anthony Fed ex lol
I think you guys made a mistake about the sound effects artist Jack Foley. He had nothing to do with the movie The Conversation (1974) because it was released 7 years after he died.
Bizarre to think of Mariska Hargitay being in the car with her mum when she died. It's crazy how much she looks like her mother. Can't look at her without seeing Jayne Mansfield. And what an ugly way to die. My god, those poor kids..
Frank McGrath - "Charles B. Wooster"...my favorite character from Wagon Train! Gotta love the underdogs! He's a corn-ball like me, lol.
Great "In Remembrance" video. Thanks for sharing and posting. 👍👍
Striking how young they are 🙏
Spencer Tracy was 67 years old when he passed away in 1967 but he looked much older.
That’s why the good old days aren’t always so good. Medical and scientific advances, as well as the campaigns against smoking, have increased lifespans by at least ten years on average.
Your work is important part of preserving history. Thank you. More important is seeing we are all human and everyone passes away even the famous. Interesting is the way they passed, sadly are the younger ones who still had much to give.
Thank you
I have a lovely photo of my late mother posing with Smiley Burnette at some function in Oregon. Wish I'd asked her more about it. I didn't realize that he'd been so young when he died.
I find these videos amazing. The one's back to the 60's are great.
Glad you like them!
Just to think how many people are alive because Jayne Mansfield died
What on Earth does THAT mean?
I am so appreciative of this series. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
I'd like to add a pair of obscure names if I may.
Konrad Adenaur was the Prime Minister of West Germany.
John Masefield was the poet laureate of England.
They both also passed in 1967.
Luigi Tenco an Italian singer commited suicide at the Festivale di San Remo in February that year because his song Ciao Ciao Ciao lost.
Some of these people never heard the Sgt Pepper’s album.
0:50 - This is Gus Grissom’s Mercury capsule, not the Apollo 1 capsule
Yes. My mistake.
I graduated from high shool in 1967. So many incredible people died that year..Brian Epstien died on my birthday...August 27th.
Wow, even though I was only 12 years old in 67, most of these folks are familiar to me, at least their faces, if not their names. Makes me wonder how time has gone by so fast, when as a 12 year old, time seemed to go by so slowly. Hope these people made it to heaven.
Theodore Marcuse (character actor in shows like Star Trek, Bonanza and even Hogan's Heroes where the episode The Hostage was his last role before losing his life in a DUI related car crash on November 29).
Awesome Job as always!
Honorable Mentions to:
1) Evelyn Nesbit - Known as "The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing, she was an actress and model well known as a Gibson Girl. She was also the subject of a high profile murder committed by her husband in 1906. She passed away on January 17, 1967.
2) Clement Atlee - Winston Churchill's successor as British Prime Minister after WWII. Passed away on October 8, 1967.
3) Ernesto "Che" Guevara - Argentinian Revolutionary and Author of The Motorcycle Diaries. Executed in Bolivia on October 9, 1967
Thank you for the additional people. I was going to put Che Guevara in but he is going to be included in an upcoming video of the "Infamous Faces,"
Charles Bickford was great as John Grainger on The Virginian, sad that he wasn't on for long.
Frank McGrath as Charlie Wooster on Wagon Train along with Terry Wilson who played Bill Hawkes were the only 2 that lasted on the western throughout its run.
Frank Overton. One of his last roles was in Star Treks This side of Paradise. He also had 2 guest appearances on Bonanza "The Storm" in Season 3 and "The Wormwood Cup" in Season 8.
R.I.P. TO OUR GREAT ACTORS.
He was also great as a corrupt cop in Fallen Angel.
I dont understand why it said cause of death was natural causes when that man was only45
Geese lost his son in a car accident the year before and began drinking heavily. Add in a broken heart. A sad end for a talented athlete.
THANK YOU MR. LANSTON HUGHES THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR OUR PEOPLE. MR. OTIS REDDING THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC 🎶.
Barbara Payton is not mentioned here, and she died in May 1967 at the age of 39 of heart and liver issues brought on by years of drug and alcohol abuse. In the late 1940s she had a promising Hollywood career that was tragically sidetracked within a few years and she fell into obscurity by the mid 1950s.
1967 was the year I was born.
It not Apollo or Gemini. It's the Mercury capsule piloted by Grissom. On recovery the hatch blew off and it sank. It was recovered decades later.
It just goes to show you any moment of your life can be your last. RIP
A wonderful and thoughtful tribute to these great contributors of our society. I was kind of surprised that there were a few I had recognized and never knew they had died so long ago back in 1967. thanks
Otis Redding..... Damn. Very sad. All the men on the plane. What a waste of young lives.
Heart attacks and liver cancer quite common.
How many could be better diagnosed and treated now.
Well done. Really enjoy this series.
Thank you.
OMG! I first saw Edward Hoppers “Nighthawk” painting in the “Masterpiece” board game. I fell in love with it as a child. It describes me to a tee!
R.I.P
The Conversation didn't come out until 1974.
I think you have a picture of Jack Ruby instead of the artist it was supposed to be.
Lyricist Roger Penzabene is also missing from this list!
Thank you so much for the very informative video! Really enjoyed it. 1000 thumbs up!! 👍
Thank you very much.
Thank you for adding 1967. Keep 'em coming!!
Will do!
No mention of Che Guevera? That was a glaring omission of epic proportions.
Guevara was a horrible human.
Good morning from Nebraska
Joe Meek was one weird dude.
Nicely done, Vince! Thank you! RIP to all of you here in this edition!
Thank you very much.

Wait! Seriously?! 1967?! It's 2024! WTF UA-cam! No disrespect! No offense.... But, This like crying over a T-Rex that was unearthed as a rock! I don't remember T-Rex though.
1967, WOW!!....Some of those were actually born before the turn of the century...If you look them in the eyes, they could belong even in our era ...We all are truly a prisoner of OUR time..50+ years from now, people will be looking at 2024 as 'old and ancient '.. Btw, I was 7 years old in 1967..
I remember the "Apollo 1" capsule catching fire killing Gus Grissom ,Ed White, and Roger Chaffee. I remember like it just happened!
That was so tragic. Those Astronauts left behind family & friends. God took them home quick! 🚀😞
Brian Epstein held the launch party at his house for "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" on 19 May 1967 and just over 3 months later he was dead. One wonders if the career of the Beatles would have unravelled so quickly had he survived, though it's said his influence over them had already peaked by that time.
Lovely tributes. Thank you very much.
Charles Beaumont wrote some of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes. I watch season 4’s “Printers Devil” at least twice a month.
R.I.P
We here in Macon, GA, have a beautiful statue of Otis writing "Dock of the Bay," on the shore of the Ocmulgee River. Come visit it. ❤❤❤
Jayne Mansfield died in a car accident on July 29 1967
No it's june 29 1967
Just a beautiful tribute to all those lives. Many thanks.
Today I learned from this video that Pilates exercises and Foley artists were named after the people who developed their respective crafts. Thanks for the research. I remember a lot of these losses. Must be getting kind of old myself. 👵
Well said!
For those that don't know Jayne Mansfield is the mother of Law and Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay
Charles Beaumont had Alzheimer's and died at 38(he also had Picks disease which is a form of dementia but that is young to get those types of disease
Scarlett O'Hara, Sherlock Homes, The Invisible Man, Capt. Culpepper, Ma Joad, & The Cowardly Lion.
Didn’t. Scarlett O’Hara pass away just a few years ago ???…. She was in her 90’s ??
@joeheath1965
You're confusing Vivien Leigh w/ Olivia de Havilland.
Captain Culpepper ?The Invisible Man ??…didn’t Dunn do that role ??…
@@joeheath1965
Who's Dunn?
I was born in '67, it's sad to see the people i miissed out on, though I have heard of most of them.
For Basil Rathbone, you showed a picture of David Niven.
How could they have missed Barbara Payton !!??
I loved it when Bert Lahr said, "I do believe in ghosts, I do believe in ghosts, I do, I do, I do!"
You Tube never lets up: Anything to make a dollar. They break into these lovely, memorial videos, to sell Reeses' peanut butter. Ugh.
This is a splendid piece of filmmaking. Jewels like this do not crop up nearly often enough.
Thank you very much.
I am surprised by how many names I am aware of.
CAN YOU PLZ DISCARD THIS TERRIBLE PIANO MUSIC ?
I remember the fire at Cape Kennedy. It was horrible.
No such thing as NATURAL CAUSES
Ann Sheridan was very attractive. RIP
Love your series, but you did show the a Mercury capsule instead of an Apollo capsule.
Yes. It has been noted. Thank you.
