I hate that women cant even wear crop tops now since they censored maria even though it's part of her character, the story and plenty of women normally wear crop tops in real life all the time, These companies always claim its hard to capture womens faces properly in these games and if that were true then why do they never have a problem accurately capturing men's faces and the east never ever has this problem either since we're in 2024 where the technology is proven to be there, seems like they're targeting female characters in the west on purpose by hiring attractive models just to intentionally uglify them in their games and the models should sue them for that

Let's watch these film, TV and gaming companies go under. The audience they think is out there does not exist. Disney may be able to absorb monumental financial losses, but other companies will find it unsustainable. It's not just down to DEI. Even if you completely ignore that aspect of it, the stuff that's come out over the past three or four years is trash on many other levels.

“Modern audience” use to mean updated graphics, mechanics, controls etc which is why we don’t have tank controls, fixed camera angles or characters that look like a milk carton with appendages really anymore, not completely bastardise and change the complete feel of the game, look or agency of the characters.

Even he's now like: Yeah, I'm noticing the Race, Gender, Sexuality and disability thing in gaming now. Because initially it was only pushed into some genres and now it pushed in all genres and EVERYTHING else.

I love how some people are going with the argument that "Angela is a teenager, she´s supposed to look younger" while Takayoshi Sato himself specified that the intention behind her looks in the og is to make her look older than she is, this is also one of the reasons why they cast Donna Burke to voice her (she also did the motion capture). Also, he created the story, did character design, directed storytelling related aspects and directed all CGI cinematics, so the "she looks more like Sato´s sketches" argument is not gonna fly either, Sato is a perfectionist and cares deeply about details, the way she looks in the og is how she´s supposed to look, same as Maria. OG Silent Hill 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, and yeah there´s some aspects of this remake where I´m willing to say "Well at least it seems like they respected this or that", but these arguments when it comes to defending the new "uptdated" looks of these characters are just copium, stop it.
Especially if people are going to say that games are art, then those same people need to be consistent and also say that the artist and the art must be respected. You shouldn't paint over the Mona Lisa to make her black for the sake of diversity, and neither should anything be changed in Silent Hill 2 for whatever reason.

It does since preservation of this game has been lost. The HD remaster messed up some of the textures and all the voice work. A remake needs to be done, but not like this. Do it right or don’t do it at all.

Most of the original code was lost, but for preservation purposes, the PS2 discs still exist. A remake isn't needed.

@@dragerdet Specialization would only befenfit people. This virtue signaling satisfies noone (with a brain). Man and Women don't want ugly female characters. Men want pretty women to look at (or romance if the game allows that), women want to FEEL pretty and be sexy. Sure some npcs can be ugly (but in woke gaming it is always ugly females where the males are conventionally handsome) and you can have a OPTION of making gremlin type characters but no one should be FORCED to play as androgynous nothingburger of a character.
I partially agree. I think it benefits developers to make games for a target audience that is either male or female, but that doesn't mean that the other sex can't play it. I'd argue that The Legend of Zelda is made to appeal to boys, but a lot of girls like it too. Animal Crossing appeals more to girls, but plenty of guys play it too.
I think it's quite difficult to make a game who's Target audience is everyone. That being said, I don't think it's impossible. Mario games have pretty universal appeal, for example.
If it's separated, you'll not gonna experience girl cosplayers.
The space needs to be respected both sexes.

If you're trying to make Silent Hill approachable, you're doing it wrong.
Part of why I have such deep adoration of the original Silent Hill 2 is because even today, after completing it several times over the span of decades now, it still scares me.
And at one point it made me feel physically uncomfortable to play.
That's when you know you've got a good horror game.
"Approachable" is the last word I want to hear in relation to a Silent Hill game.
I just watched the dvd that came with the original silent hill 2 with making of silent hill 2. What a difference to now. Sad days in gaming now.
With Angela in the original, the gray sweater girl (spoilers for a 23 year old game), she's revealed to be a late teen abuse victim who may or may not have killed someone, so she kind of looks young and old at the same time due to her experience. They just turned her pudgy and called it a day.
If I had it my way, no Americans should touch any Silent Hill development, except for being voice actors. Every SH not made by Japanese clearly has no idea what it's doing beyond copying the aesthetic and surface level themes.

They made Laura a bigger brat than she was in the first game. When she locks you in the room with a monster appearing inside, in the original she doesn’t leave until you call her a “snotty little brat” sounding hurt, while also confused as to why you’re so worried to get out. In the remake she straight up locks you in there and leaves almost immediately while talking smack.

They're gonna be using the original audio dialog, so they won't change the story, but character design... they got the women.
Modern audience has always been an ignorant statement. Too broad of a scope and no real direction. What would be more promising is if they focused on the horror game audience.
The difference will really show. Will interactions with threats become more scary, no. Leaning into action games for combat will make encounters negligible.

I mentioned this on a different video, but none of the story elements needed to be “updated”. Hiroyuki Owaku crafted the game with specific themes and specific narratives utilising specific characters down to their appearance. Any changes to this shows a total misunderstanding of the narrative or, more likely, a deliberate attempt to replace the original script with their own narrative.
All the Silent Hill community has asked for are 2 things: 1) that Konami treat this IP with the respect it deserves, and 2) that the old games be upgraded to run on modern systems so they can experience them. That Bloober Team, a studio whose story writing and, in a couple cases, game direction, has been a huge hinderance to their own products, believes it can “do better” is ridiculous. I’d like to put this all down to their usual levels of ineptness, but as we’ve experienced, this, in my honest opinion, smacks more of a deliberate effort to vandalise a classic story. No one desired Bloober Team’s “Silent Shill”.
This was a fascinating game that utilised and explored mature themes. If you somehow as an adult can’t process that, I don’t hold it against you, you are free not to play, read, or watch the material, however, I expect the same level of respect in return. I have experienced this before; especially when I used to write and edit a couple of weird fiction magazines and websites. Something would be labelled clearly as mature content, but was watered down because, “Think of the children.” 🙄.
I do worry about children and their welfare, I grant you the ability as a parent to make reasonable decisions on the content you expose your children to.

I am against all this ultra-woke crap as well, but this video was about 80% ranting and 20% actual content. I am a teacher, so naturally, I implore you first of all, to better check your facts. As other people pointed out in the comments section, this o*rgy scene isnt even in the game you are dumping on. Making characters less hyperattractive is also a thing outside the woke sphere by the way. The point is that people are supposed to not "get used" to absolute beauty so people don't try to go after these ideals in real life and compare real people (or worse, themselves) to those optimized attractive people. Models create the same problem in a similar way. It creates beauty standards that depress a lot of young people due to their inability to reach them, and others will compare their surroundings to these ideals and consider those real people ugly or at least not good looking. Me, personally, I would of course like to see the more sexy characters as well. But I understand the reason why they do the change. And then you ripped other parts of the interview out of context and when they talk about accessability, a term used for things like Controls, player hints, gameplay flow, difficuilty and even cutscenes and dialogues, you immediately twist it into them referring primarily or even exclusively to what you call woke influence, just for the content's sake. Do not get me wrong, I support your work as a counterbalance to current overbearing wokeism when it is too aggressive, but in this case, I just think you are beating a rather innocent horse with dubious methods. Especially the guy on the right had little to nothing meaningful to contribute.

I love the original Silent Hill games. These new developers are just making these modernized games for themselves.

In regards to what they call us, I have layers of tactics. The first is their burden of proof, and definition, only because I like being a slippery sod. When it gets to the core of the argument, the best definition in terms of fictitious good/evil rating, is I'm bad, and I'm badder than evil. Maria was supposed to look like a trashy prostitute, again, that was the entire point of her character, by changing her clothes to look more normal, the devs fundamently misunderstood the intent of her design.

So Silent hill is not about hell or demons… well it is about a demon. Shorthand description, the land the town is on posses an energy that was used by native Americans, the town become a tourist destination until a cult discovers the energy the land possesses and uses it to perform a ritual that will birth their “god”. A cult member named Dahlia uses her daughter because she posed some kind of power that would needed with the towns to birth the god. The ritual goes wrong and her daughter is severely burned. Because of the pain she’s in the daughter separates her feeling and emotions from her body, reincarnating herself. This also makes her no longer eligible for the ritual. The first game the towns enhanced power is projecting creatures that come from the kind of the little girl. The second game does the same but for the damaged individuals inside the town, showing them their trauma and forcing them to confront it or be consumed by it. The third game is the reincarnation of the little girl as a teenager being tracked down by the town for another attempt at birthing their god.

From what I seen konami is doing the same with Eva in MGS3 remake. In the original she looks young and very attractive. From what I saw of the pachinko machine version which is supposed to be very much like the remake she looks more like a middle aged mother. nothing against middle aged mothers but the whole point is shes supposed to be the young, seductive femme fatal character and its turned down in the remake. Its just funny how a game from something like 2005 has better looking characters

Unfortunately I won’t be playing the new one, as the Devs had to make the lead character look like a Neanderthal.
