You are so eloquent!! I love how you can condense a book to a few short sentences that are actually helpful in explaining what the book is about. I've read over half of these so will definitely add the rest to my TBR ✍️✍️✍️

Crime and Punishment can be quite challenging to read and requires a certain level of patience. It definitely feels dragging on in some parts and vague in others. But after all, it’s worthy because the story just has so many layers of meanings.
I would add The Fountainhead and Gone With The Wind. The former literally shaped me into who I am today, while the later is so dramatic it doesn’t feel that long.

I totally agree with what you said about counting the books you read in a year. I wanted to read 52 books this year and I feel a bit stressed out by my goal and a lot of big books are accumulating on my shelf and I don't read them, because they stand it the way of my goal. So next year my only reading goals are to read daily and read all the big book that are collecting dust now like "The Secret History", "The God of the Woods", "The Night Circus" or "Circe".
Big books I enjoyed this year: Where the Crawdads Sing" (I read it in German and it is almost 500 pages in German), "Hidden Valley Road" by Robert Koler and "Paula" by Isabel Allende.

I like a long book, even more so if it has a smaller font. Stephen King's 'It' and 'The Stand' are both excellent, as is '11.22.63'. Then there is of course 'The Count of Monte Cristo', also very good, and Robert Galbraith's series, most of which would be considered 'long' books. John Grisham's 'A Time to Kill' is another fab long novel.
And I agree with you - there shouldn't be this competition to read as many books as you can. You should read for the enjoyment of it, not simply to hit a target.

One of my all time favorite chonky books is Night Film by Marisha Pessl. it's a mystery/thriller/horror with mixed media. Almost 600 pgs and I read it in 4 days.. and 3 of those days were workdays otherwise I would have finished it in a weekend.
A recent chonky classic favorite is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. I have a physical copy but listened to the audiobook here on YT and my god I was completely captivated. Oftentimes my mind can wander when reading via audio but it never did with this book. If you like Jane Eyre, I also recommend the witchy re-telling, Salt & Broom by Sharon Lynn Fisher
Another all time favorite is a historical fiction that's nearly 1k pages, The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet. If you like a medieval setting and cathedral building.. highly recommend. The antagonist will piss you right off too 😂
For chonky fantasy series, I loved The Green Bone Saga (Jade City trilogy) by Fonda Lee. I had to keep reminding myself that it was an urban fantasy fiction and not some magical version of real life lol.

The longest book I read this year was OUT by Kirino Natsuo (~600 pages). Took me sooo long to finish it, but I really liked it. The plot is basically about 4 women working in a lunch box factory becoming involved with crime and disposing of bodies for the yakuza. The characters are insanely fascinating, all of them with their own motivations for actions. Never thought I'd like such a brutal story about women dismembering corpses lol

I profusely implore everyone to check out all of dostoevskys works, its truely a life changing experience that will make you reflect on all your philosophical and moral convictions. The Brothers Karamazov and The Idiot are two absolutely fasicnating novels. The works of Tolstoy are also exceptional especially Anna Karenina and War and Peace. These are all bigger books but they are so worth the time and will put you on a pathway in which your passion for literature will expand to new heights.

I'm currently reading a very long book called The Enchanted Mountain by Thomas Mann.
Reading allows you to keep your sanity.
Every day, the Russian army attacks civilians in our city with drones, missiles and guided air bombs. Occupiers kill civilians. But we hold on and do not give up.
