He didn't get it lol. It is about what is fun not what is current. I also had plenty of Xbox games. There was a service called Gamefly where for around $15 a month you could rent games online and have them sent to you in the mail like Netflix but with games. You could make a list of what games you wanted and they went send those two then when you sent those back they would send the next two on the list. I would get home from school get the games out of the mailbox pop them into the Xbox and copy them to the hard drive then send them back the same day. I think I only had Gamefly for a few months but I got so many games from it. Well this was a long comment but when it comes to talking about the old days I could go on for hours!
For the MS emulator - Sonic 2 runs too fast because it's optimised for PAL systems, as it was only released physically in Europe and Australia. It runs at the "correct" speed if it's being played at 50hz.
When it comes to hard mods, there is one that should be done. When it comes to the OG XBox; aside from revision 1.6, its capacitors should be replaced if they haven't already been. The OG Xbox was released when the capacitor fiasco was occurring.
I need to reup on my Xbox hardware. Used to have the first two systems as a teen and now nothing - they are cool systems with so many possibilities. I just consider retro exclusives and stuff usually first when picking a console to grab up lately and there aren't many on Xbox that can't be bought on PC. But with emulation and some of the other stuff that isn't on PC but is on a few consoles from that era etc opens up a lot for sure. Great vid! Also, that audio bug in capture may have something to do with bitrates? Idk much about Elgato but 480p is weird on older consoles. Can you deinterlace? 480i with deinterlacing may make more sense. A OSSC or something may be needed tho ?
4:43 i believe that issue is on sonic 2 itself. the master system version's music was seemingly optimized for 50hz consoles and you're running it at 60hz which means the music is gonna run faster. i believe it depends on the region setting though. if you run the game with european region and 60hz speed the music's gonna be faster
A lot of people are quite fond of the cracked & trainers intros; especially in the Amiga scene. Brings back a lot of nostalgia to see a BBS mentioned or group you knew back in the day. Might be wise move to keep your opinions on them on the absolute lowdown.
For the odyssey 2, it’s probably a matter of using the wrong controller. The odyssey was super early as a console, so they simply did not have the concept of first player and second player. Instead they had left controller and right controller, which caused a lot of developers to decide on their own which controller to use for the first player. In a lot of emulators for the console this now translates into using the first controller input as the left controller, and the second controller for the right controller.
The original Xbox is my preferred way to play a lot of older arcade games and consoles that I don't have. They look great on a CRT, and the emulators are generally of much better quality than those on the Wii despite having similar specs.
These things are practically MINIATURE GAMING PC's.... The DOMINANT ones sell for $200 to $450.... I have 2 of them.... 1 with a 2tb hdd & 1 with a 3tb hdd... No problems ever with them. Too many to count... Bought mines on Facebook.. FYI
So I'm sure some of your issues are related to the fact you are using the og HDD which by now is almost 20 years old. If you use a good sata adaptor and an 80 wire ide cable I'm sure it would make the overall experience better.
I use a compilation of arcade games for my OG Xbox when it comes to emulation. Cool to see PS1 works decently well. I have tried N64 but as an old school N64 fan it just made me want to play the real thing which I still have.
It should be noted and I'm not sure if you said it or not, but the original Xbox can't do 240p if you're playing on a CRT (technically only one of the emulators can using component cables). The Wii can and that why it's better.
Don't use the c drive. It's extremely easy to mess up the c drive. But installing apps and emus on the c drive can lead to not being able to uninstall them or not able to add resource artwork.
What are the odds Rocky5 would release a new update for XBMC Emustation just before this video dropped?! Great video nonetheless. I always learn something, and I use my og Xbox daily. I actually tried the Virtual Boy emulator for the first time the other day and I was similarly surprised that it worked so poorly. Only other thing I'd say is that Rocky5 generally recommends the RessurectionXtras ROM sets. They're easy to get hold of, although the N64 stuff seems harder for some reason, and the Sega CD set doesn't work well with the default emulator, at least in my experience.
The NeoGeo is an arcade system. It was released as a budget offering for businesses to buy and implement arcade machines easier. It wasn't even available to buy for normal consumers. Because there seemed to be some demand, they eventually opened it up to home users to buy. But you were just buying an arcade device, it doesn't make it a home console.
So the commodore 64 emulator automatically sets the video to PAL, if you don't have a PAL TV then you have to go into the settings and change the setting called "always use Xbox refresh rate" to YES. If you don't change that then you'll have to select NTSC every single time before you start the games. And it doesn't work for PAL users unless you change the setting "Force PAL50" to YES. After you sort out the NTSC / PAL problems, it will work fine.
Hey, I am wondering about CD-i and other game consoles. My only consoles I own are the DS Lite, original Xbox and PS2. I thought for years I didn't have a modded Xbox but I recently found out my brother's is soft modded and has very little storage left. I don't have a memory card even tho it is my first console and for my most recently gained console, the PS2, I got 2 (if I remember). Still, wish I could transfer the games on my console already to one or a flash card or a USB. Also, I can't even FTP due to the router I think.

Every time I try to load any gba rom I get a white screen and I can’t get past it any idea. I’m mainly only trying Pokémon games and I need some help if you wouldn’t mind.
For Sonic 2 MS's music playing too fast, I think it might be because it's the PAL version, as I believe the Master System version of the game wasn't released outside of Europe and Brazil.
Considering that he also tested Sonic Chaos (which _also_ wasn't released on SMS outside of Europe and Brazil) and didn't mention it being an issue there, I don't think that's it.
Retroarch on xbox has most updated emulators to at least to most of 16 bit systems and gba works pretty. Snes 9x next is more accurate than the zsnes on xbox especially it comes to sound emulation for example, since zsnes sounds awful for certain games like most of the square rpgs or earthworm jim 2. I would get home from school get the games out of the mailbox pop them into the Xbox and copy them to the hard drive then send them back the same day. I think I only had Gamefly for a few months but I got so many games from it. Well this was a long comment but when it comes to talking about the old days I could go on for hours!
Amazing vid! Some laughs here and there and super informative! c:
For the MS emulator - Sonic 2 runs too fast because it's optimised for PAL systems, as it was only released physically in Europe and Australia. It runs at the "correct" speed if it's being played at 50hz.
Why didn't I see this earlier? UA-cam must be messing with notifications again.
Also, speaking of the Wonderswan...TODAY!
When it comes to hard mods, there is one that should be done. When it comes to the OG XBox; aside from revision 1.6, its capacitors should be replaced if they haven't already been. The OG Xbox was released when the capacitor fiasco was occurring.
Didn't even know that some of the emulators like Sega CD and PlayStation accepted discs. But how?
Even though you didn't dive too deeply into it, I greatly appreciate the inclusion of the X68000!
11:38 is that 7 GRAND DAD!?!?!?
A lot of people are quite fond of the cracked & trainers intros; especially in the Amiga scene. Brings back a lot of nostalgia to see a BBS mentioned or group you knew back in the day. Might be wise move to keep your opinions on them on the absolute lowdown.
Yep
With the DS emulator, you can claim that it’s a console emulating a system that’s newer than the host system
Great video thx for emu list in description 😀
Thanks for the time and effort this has taken you. Very indepth.
Great video man! Also, do you plan on making a Emulation on PS Vita video? I'm quite curious about that topic.
- V.D.
Perhaps!
@@FrameRater Oh, thanks! Also, I know this is going to sound weird, but do you know about Boktai? I think you would probably like that game xD

Try setting the screen ratio on your TV to 4:3 (if supported), that should help with the screen stretch issue
I love this series! Thank you!
Seriously pedantic 🙄
for PCSX-ReloadedX, are you using iso or bin and cue
I love your pronunciation! I'm not a native English speaker, but I understand 95% of your words
So where's the link to all the emulators?
Why the hell is my Xbox reading Error13?
Cool to see the Jag emu working so well. Also would love to see a play all games for the Jaguar.
Wish there was a Jag CD emulation as well. My wife was in love with VidGrid
You can do cdi, but it can be a pain to get working.
Bloody hell.... when it's in full screen when you don't want it - just force your TV in 4:3 mode from the remote! If your TV does not support it - tough - change your TV...
My TV was bought second hand without a remote.
I will never understand the "just spend more money bro" comments.
@@FrameRater don't worry - still a good stuff - subscribed. BUT my ancient LCD TV (1st gen back many years ago) still can force 4:3 aspect ratio. What I mean is the limitation of your TV BUT NOT THE ENULATION ON X-BOX!!! Which you should make it clear instead of mumbiling about emulation limitations! that's it! Nothing more...
Hi I have the emulators downloaded to my xbox but I cannot access them. I have played them before and all my saved data is there.
At 10:14 on the 5200 games.. pull up the keyboard by clicking LS then press 4, H or F. That should start most of the games.. (not all of them will work, like pitfall 1) start was already mapped to the start button but it doesn't even work.
What's your favorite hacked home console for emulation and homebrew needs? I think mine is the Wii U, once properly hacked it's nearly an all-in-one Nintendo system excluding the Switch, you can even stream your 3DS directly to the Wii U now with ntrview. So couple capabilities to play almost the entire Nintendo back catalog through the Wii U, you also get PS1, PSP, Genesis, Master System, Turbografx, Neo Geo, Atari, Arcade, Game Gear, Sega CD, Lynx, etc. Not to mention you get both Wii U homebrew and all the original Wii's homebrew as well.
nintendo when they catch someone pirating: sorry we gotta put a puppy in the woodchipper because you wanted to play a game we don't sell ourselves anymore
Framerater, in regard to n64 emulation the "earthworm james" n64 pack is preconfigured (settings, etc) and many onlinbe view it as the best way to play n64 roms on the og xbox. Apparently, titles like conker even work on it. I haven't had success, but peeps on youtube have it running smoothly. Have you checked it out?
You may have missed, but I said that in the video. The rom I was using was in fact of the Earthworm James pack. His rom might be better configured for 128mb Xboxes.
I think the reason for some of the odd controls stuff with Dosbox is that you can use a usb keyboard.
7:27 I dunno that warning looks kinda sus
If you're going to keep checking out homebrew and emulators for different consoles, I suggest going for the 3DS. It has a shit load of good emulators and cool homebrew
No way to record it.
@@FrameRater there are actually multiple homebrew apps for the 3DS that allow you to stream it to your PC and record it from there with relatively low latency depending on which one you use
Excellent video man!!!
🤔...I have no idea what I just watched...💁🏻 I'm not the kinda person that can do this stuff...👌🏼 I'm just the person whom buys a system with all the games on it ready to play...💯✔ Nevertheless, I left a like...👍🏼
I played on my Xbox Monkey Island and Day of the tantacle with an scumm emulator. Works realy good
The xbox is a beast! i really hope the Wii can turn to that level as well
XBoyAdvance v25 i cant find the download of this emulator anywhere i already soft modded my original xbox
Have a an original Xbox with a mod chip and the ram chip installed and was able to play through the complete wario virtual boy title flawlessly.
I used to to use my original Xbox for emulation of all those retro games, but I use either a cfw PSP, cfw PSTV, or a cfw PS3.
id like to play red ninja for og xbox on my xb1 but they didnt backwards compatible it what do you recommend? i need to use accessibility on xb1 to see it to play
Awesome video thank for all the home work you did 👍🏼
What file manager are, or were you using in this video FrameRater?
30:34 me when i hit my foot
How to map sega neo genesis game controls? I play madden 96 and the screenshot button setting keeps snap shotting
Hi sorry one question....how i can push for go inside settings on emulators?
Especially amiga emulator for go in settings what i need to push in my controller?
I hate all the smoothing effect and post processing anti-aliasing on the old games. Makes them look like poop on my CRT tv and not even that great on my flatscreen.
something is off with your setup of surreal64CE. I think you just copied the ROMS from the pack, the save files, and Surreal.ini are were the configuration are stored.
What version is your xbox? I don't know much about xbox but I know the later ones had issues with 480p. Something to do with a video encoder?
Would DesmumeX performance improve with more system memory?
Can you still play OG XBOX games from the disc?
Of course.
@@FrameRater O.K. just wondering because I've never emulated on an OG XBOX before. In addition, this video was really informative.
what dashboard are you using?
30:33 "Someone put that poor rabbid out of its missery"
LMAO
Try Retroarch on the OG Xbox, it really got better with the latest releases
Great video. Might want to test out an upgraded 128gb ram Xbox
You should try CoinOPS if you want emulation on the Xbox Classic. It has the best interface, and best emulation of all consoles on the Xbox Classic
Could you tell me if north and south works for the amiga emulator? Love that game and the NES version is bad.
thank you for making the sequel to my favorite video
I can't believe I actually fell for that timestamps sponsorship....
My original Xbox has evo x but i tried the ds emulator but it wouldn't work
Every time I try to load any gba rom I get a white screen and I can’t get past it any idea. I’m mainly only trying Pokémon games and I need some help if you wouldn’t mind.
Glad I bought a modded OG xbox with ninja massive/COINOPs pre installed
Is it compatible with windoed 98 and 95 games on the dosbox emulator?
I wonder if the front end shown in the video could use libretro cores for better performance and accuracy.
Good video and great footage quality.
Accurate maybe but the Snes 9x I tried had bad stuttering issues on the higher performance games.
@@FrameRater Yeah, only the retroarch 1.7.1 for xbox has a fullspeed snes 9x next core and genesis plus gx which is probably the best sega genesis an sega cd emu for any platforms.
Final edit: pc was lagging
ua-cam.com/video/fnwc7afBtIw/v-deo.html link to video demonstration of rretroarch on xbox.
Retroarch xbox probably got updated a bit more with speed fixes and more cores, before the attack on their github wiped a lot of progress.
You should try some of the larger roms after upgrading the disk to SSD. No one is upgrading the RAM, but SSD is easier.
What is the name of the Apple 2 game you played with the bricks at top of screen?
Incredible video. Thanks.
Vectrex needs a higher resolution and some good aa to look good on non-vector crts and lcd screens or else it looks a bit blurry.
