    I wish I could remember the title but, the worst Original Xbox game for me was this detective game that took place in two time periods. You played a female detective tracking a serial killer her great great grandfather was also tracking. Mysterious😮.
    I rage quit the game when I had to figure out a gingerbread man recipe. I’m not joking, each ingredient had to be measured and added according to symbolically what makes the gingerbread man a “man”.
    This happens in the first hour after investigating a murder scene.

    I remember buying Drake of the 99 dragons at a gamestop several years ago for 25 cents. Cashier said that I'm over paying. Played it for ten minutes and had to throw up. On the bright side, a friend from work was collecting video games and said that he was looking for it. I was going to give it to him, but when I announced that I had it, the guy cut me off and said he would give me 5 dollars for it. So that's how Drake made me lose my lunch and helped me buy a new one.

    It interesting that most of the worst games on here actually seem like really good games on paper. Like, Kabuki inspired fighting game. A children's platformer where you play as a troop on mice. Third person shooter with parkour and 2000s comic book graphics. Those sound really fun. It's just the execution of them all.

  • @FrothingFanboy

    Bubbling under on the worst list is Chicago Enforcer. It's ridiculously unfair; enemies will pop out of nowhere and wreck you with perfect accuracy like a DarkSim.

    Kabuki Warriors looks incredibly simple, but also a bit satisfying with an interesting concept. Sneakers looks incredibly cozy, if a bit bland. Drake of the 99 Dragons will always be legendary. They will never get me to hate it. The other two just look awful. Who’s idea was it to put heart attacks as a racing game mechanic lol.

    This was a enjoyable concept, going after low scores games on the Xbox! I haven't heard of any of them, but you covered them well, with excellent gameplay of each!
    One of the worst rated Xbox games that I personally love & think is quite good is a official George Romero "Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green" & was created with the then new movie in mind which it's loosely based on. When seeing the movie opening week at the theater, they showed the video game as a preview before they showed the actual film. It is a original Xbox console exclusive, but also on PC. I was a diehard PS2 gamer then but as I absolutely adore Romero's several famous Zombie films like "Dawn of the Dead" I saw in 1978, I had to play "Land of the Dead", so that was my excuse to buy my first Xbox & the game did not disappoint! Years later with the advent of the internet the game got destroyed by numerous jaded game reviews at that time, but I never knew it was considered bad until years later. It is certainly janky but is still a fantastic & somewhat disturbing zombie game. The harder the difficulty you set, the faster & more aggressive the zombies come at you, it was ahead of it's time as simplistic as it looks. The zombie noises & eerie electronic music really makes the experience. I can't recommend it enough, it is one of the most subjective "bad games" I've ever played.
    I made a video years ago picking out low Metacritic scored games I really enjoyed, which made for a entertaining video montage!

    That "New Legends" game that you said was worse than Sneakers got actually halfway decent reviews, comparatively, but the failure of sales actually stopped that studio from making a Sam & Max title. And considering that studio was made up of lots of LucasArts veterans on the squad, I think we could've been relatively hopeful for their efforts in that specific type of game, that LucasArts did so well for so many years. I don't have a point to any of this just thought it was kind of interesting. Enjoyed the video! First one I've seen from your channel. Thanks for making it! 👍

    16:13 actually, another game did this first. This was implemented in Jet Moto (1996) for PS1, and it felt great there. This mechanic would return in the other two Jet Moto games, both also on PS1

  • @athena9029
    @athena9029 2 місяці тому +5

    Most of these games weren't as bad as they were labeled, just came out at the wrong time in the wrong format. Kabuki Warriors' 'simple combat' comes from Samurai Spirits, where the game focuses on footsies and big hits over combos. Deadliest Warrior did this better, but without Kabuki, wouldn't have been possible. And the other games would've had a better review had they waited to be Xbox Live Arcade titles and not 60 dollar games.
    Speaking of Nezmix, the game is so unfairly judged. The west wasn't used to "weird Japanese games" as it is nowadays. It was sure simple, but the game still featured great graphics for its time, an amazing soundtrack (the intro theme in Japanese: Magical Eyes by Folder 5 is such a banger), but not only that, the voices aren't "rat squeaks"; it's fully dubbed in Japanese. How many games of that era can you name with fully voiced characters? Out of all games in this list, it's one that deserves to return.

    Interesting coverage for these five titles. Yeah, I only known from searching them at a cursory glance and assuming they don’t have anything to offer…yet, I often gravitate toward Sneakers for some unknown peculiar reason. I guess seeing the graphic being not bad and some good music alongside the title being at least playable in a mix of a 2D platformer with elements of fighting really surprised me. It doesn’t have that much going on outside of that…but it’s not as glitchy or unfinished compared to the others on this list. Kabuki Warrior had a very good premise of a Kabuki theatre fighting game and I wished to have loved to see how Genki doing more with this if they had more development time…shame it’s not content rich enough though.
    The others don’t have much to say, although the idea of an automated track feature sounds amazing had it been better executed in a better title than Pulse Racer. And of course Drake of the 99 Dragons is still very much….an extremely difficult game to come back and I don’t think the 2018 PC version can simply fix the issues of the bad level design.

    • @tissuesstuff1016
      @tissuesstuff1016 2 місяці тому

      On another side note was that Genki also developed Kakuto Chojin and that one was also lambasted by critics and was recently reviewed by Digital Foundry more recently too. It’s pretty interesting…

    Only ever played the demo for Drake, but as a 10 year old that loved The Matrix (ostensibly because of the action, didn't have a clue of what the film was actually about, lol), i thoight the game was cool as hell. Thinking about it, i recognized the game wasnt great (the controls really werent intuitive) but appreciated the attempt and enjoyed what it was trying to do, which i think kickstarted my love for weird, janky games that had ambition but failed the execition, like Alone in the Dark 2008.
    Either way, great video, thanks for shining a light on some games I'd never heard of!

    • @windscar15
      @windscar15 Місяць тому

      Alone In The Dark 2008’s real time inventory system was such a neat idea. Doing away with menus entirely and just having your character check his pockets. I’m surprised no else has tried this. If I had to guess, it’s too animation heavy to make it work without glitching nowadays.

    If there's anything I would give to Stake, it would be the character designs being pretty cool. But they are pretty derivative of 90s Capcom designs.

    the track builder in PulseRacer looks interesting- and I've never heard of Stake before, but at a glance it looks like something I would play (now that I know it's flaws, I might stay away).

    Sneakers should have been ok as a cheapie but they knew it wasn’t going to do well, I think. Sneakers is a TERRIBLE name which tells you nothing about the game and regulating it to TRU really did not do it any favors.

    After hearing him call Drake of the 99 Dragons playable, I'm convinced he just spins a wheel or something to determine his reviews.
