I saw a wonderful, confident, positive trainer. The head tossing was a bit of normal sass that was being worked out. I saw gentle hands and truly a partnership with the horse.
Farouk's mane looks gorgeous in these videos. It has really grown long and luxurious. You can tell he's looking down that long road stretch and is just raring to go. Those long legs of his are tingling with the excitement of the upcoming gallop. Oooh and what a nice one it was... he's a wind dancer for sure! Every time you rein him in he tosses his head as he is ready to GOOOO! He says give me an inch and i'll take a field!!!! hahaha.. Good to see him feeling so feisty even if he's being a bit naughty. Love that shadow... watching his legs move as well as what your camera catches. Whew what a lovely ride. giggles..; "No, stand still... no no no... we can stand here all day"... love it.
😂 👍 " i'll take a field" he is a great chap, but I am careful not to let him get away with too much, little naughty, now and again is okay, as I don't want to be at him every minute 😊
True haha one of the Arab mares at my riding school is also my mounted archery horse and she has so much energy she's galloped before being ridden to let off some steam, then she can still keep galloping for 3 hours and shows little signs of fatigue afterwards, it's quite funny (though she's still monitored so she doesn't overdo it. Still, we wonder where such a small mare stocks all her energy hahaha)
Tara, you are so patient with Farouk! He just wants to fly! I liked when you said “ I can do this all day, Farouk, don’t think I can’t!” I would be so afraid riding such a fast horse. You are amazing! I love when you stop and he turns his head. His face is so sweet!
I just love how much you use your voice with him. Just talking to him in a slow and nice tone when he gets a bit too excited. I don’t own a horse I ride at a riding school in Sweden. I never once hear anyone in my group talk to their horse but I do it all the time. Especially when I ride this young speedy mare and I can really tell how much more relaxed and slow she gets when I talk to her and pet her. Really great. She actually slows down more when I loosen the reins to pet her than when I pull. Lovely to see your connection with your horses!
My thoroughbred was testy when I first got her and eventually the dairy farm near by gave me 4 huge fields (with the gates left open) to use for a few months to be able to work with her after she bolted terribly with me. Every time she bolted I had the 4 fields to push her even when she wanted to stop. Sounds harsh but she got away with it by her previous owner so eventually I had to keep pushing her to teach her to only gallop when I ask and stop when I ask. Love how you stay so calm with your horses and you don’t just accept when they have a naughty moment. Too many riders get scared when their horses bolt and rather just not ride that pace again instead of teaching their horse what’s acceptable which then makes for a very difficult horse down the line for the next owner (if it comes to that).
They need a tough workout sometimes. For someone to be ' oh you think you are fit do you'? I think with farouk its because he wasn't used to riding after winter time off. They go a bit wild again.
I agree having owned thoroughbreds in my youth and galloped racehorses. They love to gallop and such breeds should be galloped regularly in a wide open space to keep them happy. Any funny business with the brakes push them onward until they start to tire then ask for the slow down they soon learn to be obedient always keep in mind it takes a lot of space for a thoroughbred to slow down rather like a human sprinter, they have to wind down from a full gallop before stopping. Farouk reminds me of a racehorse he sure does have some speed one can see why thoroughbreds have the Arabian as an ancestor!
Leons Lioness NZ my main issue with my mare was that her previous owner rode her maybe twice a year, and then her family used to hop on for “joy rides” when they visited her. If she bolted with anyone they would freak out, and get off immediately after they managed to yank her to a halt. Basically rewarding the behavior. It took about 6 months of daily work to get her to steady up and respond because she was just a trail horse and I needed a reliable horse out on trail. Once she started responding correctly to seat and voice commands, I was the only person to ride her after that cause I didn’t want to risk anyone messing up my hard work. Especially after I had already broken my back falling from a different horse. She turned out my best horse.
That was superb riding & teaching for Farouk there Tara. Your techniques are the best & although I've ridden for over 40 years & worked in P2P yards, I am learning a lot from you. Thank you so much. Brilliant video. X

Watching this in 2022 and what a difference in Farouk now! He stands like a rock and minds his manners, not to mention he’s much less spooky! He even looks a bit less “ wild” since you plait his mane now. But I love this wild and slightly rebellious guy!
I once had a crazy accident with my horse. while we went for a canter on a field , just like your video, we stepped into a hole. My mare and I did a flip, and i cant canter while going on rides anymore because i started to feel super scared. I really miss this feeling. your videos make me relive some of those good times 🥰
Eeeeek! We were going so fast! I wasn't ready and there is no western saddle horn to grab! Lol Geez, he's a fast horse! And you are so outstanding in your riding. I wish I could get to that pont! Hugs sweet lady!
worst thing you can do is grab the horn in a western saddle when you're going fast. That's a good way to come off. You should rely on you seat and your balance. You'll never see a real western rider, a cowboy, grabbing the horn.
Wow he is fast. Although I know nothing about training horses I love the way you handle him. He has to know who’s in charge so that he does not hurt himself, you or anyone else.
You can tame the horse, you can help mature it but you can not change their personality just like a human.. and you can’t control the horse but you can try, unlike this lady/man, they have control and take control over the horse. And I’m truely impressed by how you do it!
"Drinkers of the Wind" I don't know why it popped in my head, but a term associated with Arabs. And maybe why they are more difficult to collect? Farouk had a fantastic time, he loves to run. And to my eyes he was trying, but, bless him, he was still excited from the gallop! Nice vid Tara. :-)
He just loves to run and he is not keen on having to listen to someone saying "slower" … You, Tara, have nerves of steel. Of course, I realize you know Farouk, you know the fields you are running in & you are a great rider … but for me, it is thrilling just to watch from your head cam. Farouk is very beautiful - and he is simply all get up and go. I remember how much work the horses were - of course as a kid, it was all fun and games, but my dad was the one really busy with them. It will be interesting to see him get ready for all the eventing this summer. I hope you take Apollo out to some events, too. I seem to expect that he is a bit more predictable than Farouk, though I am sure he is ready to go too. Thank you for that great video!

Those stops were amazing, especially after he'd had his gallop & loose rein. The building noises are all good for Farouk whilst he's safely tucked up in his stable, he seems to just ignore them - clever fella !

In my opinion Farouk has the heart and soul of a true Race Horse He loves running his hearts content with his mane flying high in the wind . What a sight he would be if he were to run like he could . He is such a beautiful horse !! ❤️
My favorite horses to ride are definitely Arabians and of course the Tennessee walker. Arabians are so beautiful, so energetic and sooo fast! 😊 There was an Arabian cross that I was training that everyone else was afraid to work with and ride. When I got to her, I could see why. I worked with her and then was able to ride her. It was so exhilarating. She reminded me of me. Lol.
Farouk was a chuga-chuga choo choo today lol He has one speed today which is fast, what a little monkey he was ❤️ He was doing well at the end with his halts. I am in Montreal Quebec where there is a white carpet of snow on the ground 😊 I enjoy your videos as I look at them before I get up in the morning 😊

You don’t have to give Farouk much encouragement before he takes off, and then he has a hard time slowing down. He is so interesting to watch. His ears are always twitching back and forth so he doesn’t miss much.. He seems to be very intelligent. I think I missed the one when you were talking about shoeing a horse. Can you tell me about not shoeing a horse ( benefit for and against.) good job on getting him to stand. You are really good with him. Loved the whole ride. Thanks again for the video.💖🥰🇺🇸
I love Farouk. He just loves a good gallop, it's just hard to change his mind at the end of a field. I could have never done this with my OTTB. She would have taken me to the next county or State here in the USA. Especially out alone. It's fun to watch Farouk learn and grow.
In my younger days when I was a lot thinner lol I rode a lot and a lot of horses but I that was something else lol Farouk is so fast but at the same time he is a star for listening to u Tara especially for his age bless him xxxx
My horse does the same thing but a little worse do you have any tips for a horse that just gets kind of out of control when it’s time to gallop and when you do go into the gallop there all over the place and swerving? I don’t know maybe something is up with my horse I’ve been trying to work threw it with him but he keeps doing it and it’s getting to the point where it’s to dangerous to even gallop unless it’s in a wide open field. And it’s also like he’s getting attached to certain areas and pulling tjere even if it’s a bush or a tree. He is an albino horse maybe some of it has to do with vision?? And maybe the bit?? He’s very hard mouthed aswell. Maybe someone could give me tips or something.
You handled him so well! Would you have any advise for handling a semi hot horse? My boy will always bunch himself up and sometimes explode with energy and power no matter what I do.
Oh wow, that was a speedy ride😲. Looked like tough lessons for him, but clearly so important to get these things right (ie correct) now (rather than later when it might be too late?).
Born to run!! He is so fidgety some times haha! You are SO right, he is the type that needs stimulation all the time either riding or schooling or inter action. Just wondering if any one else has ever ridden him and what are your thoughts about that?
Such a cheeky boy, when asking him for something give him a chance to actually do it before asking again and again, also don't ask him too many things at once like slow, head down, stand still etc I used to do the same but once I stopped talking and using my seat and leg etc it was more effective than having to yell to get him to hear you :)
I just love Arabs. They are such flighty skittish horses by nature yet they are so intelligent and easy to train. He really is a beautiful boy well done
Wow Tara, how can u keep from hooting and whooping during those wild gallops! The sheer joy of it! I have read that some horses do need to actually learn how to properly collect to canter correctly. He's usually pretty good with your verbal commands.(most of the time!
Love your use of voice I didn't use that aid would now. But I was taught to think of the reins as a piece if cotton and never jerk, twist or yank good advice, but sometimes I would forget and use them. Nowadays, we know so much more about the actions of bits on the horse and care is required. Ever the “ kindest gentleness “ bit hurts the whole horse
How you've ridden Farouk is amazing! I do have a question, are you always light-seated when cantering or galloping? Or do you occasionally deep-seat to have more contact with the horse when needed

Hi Tara, he is just a Machine... coming out of the Stall...do a little Canter for warming up the muscles...🤣🤣🤣 going over the field...yippehh...Mom I can feel the wind in my ears can you too ? ....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 It's probhably very hard for you to get him tired, the more you ask the more he wants to Run....Still you two are a Match made in Heaven...you Love and understand and teach him and he is willing to give his best...including all the speed and endurance he has..🙈🙈🙈. ... wonderful Team despite some discussions ......with my Thoroughbred Mare it got a little better after we kept her in a big Sand Paddock with an open Barn so she could move around with all her stable mates as a herd all the time..but Thoroughbred s/Arabians will be es they are....fast ...😇🤗 Take care Dagmar ❤❤❤❤

They have a high stamina due to their desert environment trust me i own one

I totally agree with that. Not galloping is not the answer to a horse that takes hold of the bit and doesn't want to stop.

My favorite horses to ride are definitely Arabians and of course the Tennessee walker. Arabians are so beautiful, so energetic and sooo fast! 😊 There was an Arabian cross that I was training that everyone else was afraid to work with and ride. When I got to her, I could see why. I worked with her and then was able to ride her. It was so exhilarating. She reminded me of me. Lol.

Farouk was a chuga-chuga choo choo today lol He has one speed today which is fast, what a little monkey he was ❤️ He was doing well at the end with his halts. I am in Montreal Quebec where there is a white carpet of snow on the ground 😊 I enjoy your videos as I look at them before I get up in the morning 😊

You don’t have to give Farouk much encouragement before he takes off, and then he has a hard time slowing down. He is so interesting to watch. His ears are always twitching back and forth so he doesn’t miss much.. He seems to be very intelligent. I think I missed the one when you were talking about shoeing a horse. Can you tell me about not shoeing a horse ( benefit for and against.) good job on getting him to stand. You are really good with him. Loved the whole ride. Thanks again for the video.💖🥰🇺🇸

Wow. Farouk’s mane is very long in this video. I got a good look at how long it hung down his shoulder when you opened the first gate.
After listening to your conversation with him, I now felt assured that I'm not alone in this practice, lol.
I love Farouk. He just loves a good gallop, it's just hard to change his mind at the end of a field. I could have never done this with my OTTB. She would have taken me to the next county or State here in the USA. Especially out alone. It's fun to watch Farouk learn and grow.

My horse does the same thing but a little worse do you have any tips for a horse that just gets kind of out of control when it’s time to gallop and when you do go into the gallop there all over the place and swerving? I don’t know maybe something is up with my horse I’ve been trying to work threw it with him but he keeps doing it and it’s getting to the point where it’s to dangerous to even gallop unless it’s in a wide open field. And it’s also like he’s getting attached to certain areas and pulling tjere even if it’s a bush or a tree. He is an albino horse maybe some of it has to do with vision?? And maybe the bit?? He’s very hard mouthed aswell. Maybe someone could give me tips or something.
Being an equestrian, I talk the way I would my horse to my dog LOL. ‘Tck tck tck tck’ ‘woah’ and such.

Born to run!! He is so fidgety some times haha! You are SO right, he is the type that needs stimulation all the time either riding or schooling or inter action. Just wondering if any one else has ever ridden him and what are your thoughts about that?
no one else has ever ridden him, only because he needs an experienced rider and I don't have anyone close that is.
I are such a good horse owner. it makes my heart smile. he is so happy
Such a cheeky boy, when asking him for something give him a chance to actually do it before asking again and again, also don't ask him too many things at once like slow, head down, stand still etc I used to do the same but once I stopped talking and using my seat and leg etc it was more effective than having to yell to get him to hear you :)

I have read that some horses do need to actually learn how to properly collect to canter correctly. He's usually pretty good with your verbal commands.(most of the time!
Love your use of voice I didn't use that aid would now. But I was taught to think of the reins as a piece if cotton and never jerk, twist or yank good advice, but sometimes I would forget and use them. Nowadays, we know so much more about the actions of bits on the horse and care is required. Ever the “ kindest gentleness “ bit hurts the whole horse

How you've ridden Farouk is amazing! I do have a question, are you always light-seated when cantering or galloping? Or do you occasionally deep-seat to have more contact with the horse when needed

It's probhably very hard for you to get him tired, the more you ask the more he wants to Run....Still you two are a Match made in Heaven...you Love and understand and teach him and he is willing to give his best...including all the speed and endurance he has..🙈🙈🙈. ... wonderful Team despite some discussions ......with my Thoroughbred Mare it got a little better after we kept her in a big Sand Paddock with an open Barn so she could move around with all her stable mates as a herd all the time..but Thoroughbred s/Arabians will be es they are....fast ...😇🤗
