- Today we're turning TRASH into painted wrapping paper! Seriously, you can make art with anything. It's the holiday season, and I'm going to upcycle old packaging paper I've been accumulating into artwork! We'll be using posca pens, paint, and other cool stuff! When I say WE... I mean you, me, and a special guest who makes an appearance later in the video. :)

This is so timely, and so useful! We are all up to our elbows in packing materials these days, and kraft paper is too darn good to waste! You can iron it, decorate it, potato relief print on it, even use PVA glue to make faux distressed leather! We're not ashamed to admit, we save and iron crumpled paper, and even save our tuna sporks for stirring paint! Thanks, Mira, for another great lesson!
hey blick! i love your art supplies!
@@cookiedoughicecream01 I’m sure we all do!
Great idea about the PVA and distressed leather effect. Think I might have to use that for some covers on my notebooks.
Please do more art collabs with your husband! honestly I would watch a whole video with you two, you guys are so fun ☺️
Oh my Goodness, can you imagine how much fun this will be to do as a family activity when the twins are old enough!
Haha, we will totally do it!! :D
Can we appreciate Dorv’s pretty much perfect circle at 18:12 !! Great video ❄️
I so needed this with all the laughs! My mom broke her hip falling at work today, and has surgery scheduled for tomorrow morning. All thoughts and prayers welcome.
Side note:congrats Dorf on being nearly done with your training, I hope you both can get some more sleep soon, and if you iron the paper on a non-steam setting it wouldale it easier to draw on. 🧡
Love that he was willing to put on some lip gloss😆. What a super fun project to do with your hubby. You two are adorable! ❤
PS- I feel the lefty struggles. I’m glad I was born that way too 😂
@@cassandracleveland I always thought the lefties were better artists so actually tried to be left-handed in my high school days! Didn't work out very well, LOL.
@@dianeo that’s pretty cute actually 😆❤️
This was something I didn’t know I needed today. A dose of creativity and a lot of love! 💕
This was so adorable! I love that you two create together!
The mug paper was soooo cute!!!! Loved seeing the part with your hubby :)
I love how this couple interacts. So heckin wholesome
I love the direction you are going in your videos. This is the best video with your husband. Knowing he is a doctor and can still get down with his wife to have fun, makes me look at my doctors as family men not just scientists. I hope he joins you more often. Great job.
I'm exactly the same with the tape!! I always say "if you can't get into the tape you obviously don't want the gift badly enough!" 🤣🤣
My kids are 5 and 7, and I haven't had a good night's sleep in over 7 years. 😅 But honestly, I'll take sleep deprivation any day for these two silly, sweet boys!
This is so cute and wholesome. It's lovely that you both decorated wrapping paper together. ❤️
I love this chill vid. It reminds me of your early day vids Mira! You and your husband are so cute together!😁
I absolutely love the vibe you and your husband have. Reminds me of highschool art room chats my friends and I would have
I loved this video and your husband is so funny 😂 You two are absolutely adorable ❤
You two are absolutely adorable together! Feliz Navidad!!!
I played Oregon trail in school. I usually starved because I couldn’t shoot anything! Lol really enjoyed the two of you. Merry Christmas
Lmao 😂 same !! I totally get full enjoyment out of wrapping peoples gifts in such a way that it makes it almost impossible to open ! ❤
Congratulation s on your hard work.
Ps. Yessssss I played Oregon trail! 🤣 Also you guys should try ORGAN trail it's a zombie spin off and it's really really fun. 😅👍🏻❤️
I think this was my favorite video of yours ever! Just to see y'all being yourselves and playing. It was so fun!
I love how you mentioned unicorn blood and that must mean you are really into the Harry Potter series too; am I right?? 😊❤
Yes!!! 💜
@@MiraByler that’s so AWESOME, I’m literally OBSESSED with HP!! 😂❤
i can't separate the art (the HP books) from the artist. she's not a kind person
I tried to get Mom's housecoat to fit in the wrapping paper tube. When it wouldn't all fit, I used a small box on one end to hold the rest. Mom was convinced I got her a plunger, and she kept saying it looked like a wrapped plunger under the tree for her. She never thought of anything else it could be.
Back in the day of VHS tapes, Dad would get me a classic Disney movie and wrap them in a box with some nickles to rattle and half a brick for weight so it blended in with other gifts so it wasn't obvious.
For dorv, I think they're called pens because in many places, pen is the hypernym of markers, ballpoint pens, etc. so markers are actually a sub category of pens in many countries afik
22:50 I learned from DoodleDate that they call markers “pens” over in England so perhaps it was a translation thing from the Japanese company to English? Plus alliteration is fun 😍 I loved this video ❤
If I could l Ike this twice I would. Your positivity and joy are infectious! Have a lovely holiday season.
You guys are the sweetest 💗 💓 💛 had so much fun watching this video😅
The snowflakes one is my favourite, but they’re all great. 😊 ❄️
And I enjoyed “hanging out” with both of you. 🎄🎁
Sticky is adorable. 🥰
Love this idea. I've made my own hand-printed wrapping paper from kraft paper and stamps I made from erasers but I like the idea of hand painting designs as well.
I played Oregón trail on the old black screen with pixelated green words and little graphics!! It was the bomb as a kid !
I loved Oregon trail, but I often died crossing rivers. Could never get that part right. We hardly ever made it all the way to Oregon.
I L❤VE brown packing paper!! So much fun!
I use this paper since years in my crafting and I love to make reusable present bags or packing. To see you doing it together is awsome. Mary christmas to you an all your loved ones.
You’re so resourceful and creative Mira, and I enjoy watching you bring your creativity to what you’re doing.
You two painting together are really funny, you should do this more often!
This is such a good way to use up your old or gloopy nail polish and paint! I have some really old nail polish that I simply can’t use on my nails anymore, so I think I’ll try doing the polka dots wrapping paper with it instead. I actually happen to have a glittery green polish, I think it’ll be perfect!
Lefties unite. I’m with you Mira as a fellow leftie
Ok Dorv, was residency harder or fatherhood with young twins?! Love seeing you two have fun together:) Also the extra tape thing, I do it too. It took my mom 20 times to get to her engagement ring when my step dad proposed and I enjoyed every box and piece of tape I watched her "suffer" through lol.
Yes to Oregon Trail player.
That is a very hard question. Different experiences for sure. I think fatherhood probably wins, though I'm only 6 months into it.
this was too cute the two of you together, and i love this idea of recycling brown paper. they literally sell the brown paper on rolls to wrap parcels so why waste money when you can get it for free 😊👍🏻
Your trash wrapping paper is great. You gave some splendid ideas.
Your husband is adorable, I'm glad he enjoyed doing his art. You guys are great together. Hope you invite him on again for some other art projects.
Thank you for sharing this video with us.
aww so nice to see you both on doing this and love the recycling idea so Kool.
This is wonderful. So good.
You two are possibly way too cute. :)
I've always thought that packing paper was too wrinkled to draw on or use for wrapping paper but your paper looks great! Now I wish I hadn't thrown so much in the recycling bin... wahhhh. Lovely designs! I love that Dorv joined in. What a good sport 😊
Good ides to reuse the paper like this, love the cute coffee mugs 😀
I usually use these for junk journals. works great for the pages
this is not video related, but i decided to make my own wooden ornaments for my christmas tree and gifts, im so excited to make them, thank you for the inspiration :) and yes OT on computer is nostalgia ❤
I played Oregon trail as a kid, and I watched the star kid musical "the trail to Oregon" based on the game. (Maybe a million times by now. I love it.) Love all your wrapping paper!! Nicely done as always.
Thank you so much.
There goes my evening, this is amazing
Leftie artists unite!
Love doing this!! Makes presents feel so much more personal and special as well ❤🎉🎁
Great video Art Sister! 😄 Adding your husband in was fun. This is a great recycle project, most of that type of paper goes to my cats to play in or sleep on. 😸
You would be doing a service to HUMANITY by posting yourselves together doing ANYTHING. I'm 100% serious. Whatever else you're here for, your here to do this. Thank you for sharing your GOODNESS with us!! BLESS YOU!
Oh man I hear you Dorv! Children are exhausting 😅 my youngest is still up every 2 Hours a night and he's 18 months now 🤣🤣
Absolutely loved the nail varnish paper! Turned out fab and so simple to do!
Loved seeing you two just taking a moment to chill together 😊❤️
How about…when you write and do certain tasks left handed, and use scissors and do other tasks right-handed. That’s me. As a kid I just assumed I was left handed because that’s the hand I write with. In school, teachers would assume I also cut lefty, throw leftie, dribble leftie, etc. Nope. I do those things right-handed, along with playing instruments (thank goodness, lol). I paint left, crochet right, use a toothbrush and brush with both, bat and put left…some doctors list me as ambidextrous as a result.
Posca Pens=alliteration.
That’s a nice way to reuse those papers. I’ve decorated computer and lined paper to make handmade small pieces of wrapping paper.
Delightful to see you 2 working together!! 🥰 A very simple reuse of trash. Recycling at its best!! 👍
Loved Oregon trail! There's an Oregon Trail II? Do tell!!!!
great art! I wonder if unused butcher paper would work too? Although I appreciate being able to recycle paper that comes in packages. :-) thanks for the great ideas. Blessings.
Oregon trail REPRESENT!!
I live in Oregon and it makes me happy that so many other states also played and loved that simulation game.
Thanks for bringing back the memories of elementary school with floppy disks and Oregon trail.
むらさきいろ - murasaki iro - purple color... It is Japanese... That was for your awesome husband. Also they are pens because markers have the color that is stored in a sponge. Pens have the ink (or paint) in a hollow tube. That is rhe difference and why they are pens. Plus... the Japanese are a little weird and exciting, but I love them.
Dorf's swirly paper reminds me of like a sweater pattern or one you'd see on an ornament. Perfect for the holidays.
Craft paper wrapping paper is more eco-friendly. Also instead of scotch tape, use washi tape cuz it is biodegradable and reusable. Use twine to wrap around and make a bow for some really cute vintage packaging
I am breathing a huge, happy smile of relief that I chose to watch this video just now. I had just watched another art video which left me really stressed, and your happy, wholesome, relaxed time together has helped to put me to rights. Thank you!
You may also have solved my problem for my Christmas cards, which are A5 size and will take a *lot* of paper to make envelopes. I have 24 cards in the making and one roll of Christmas paper will only make four envelopes. You have reminded me that I have a stack of Kraft paper and a lot of pretty ribbon. I don't think I'll have time to decorate the paper (the cards are taking sooo long to colour!!! Why did I choose to draw this???), but I do have some Christmas dies I could cut for labels.
So, another thank you for reminding me that I have this stuff!!!
😊🎁
I just happened to be shaking a bottle of paint at the same time Dorv and Mira were shaking their poscas. 🤣
They have brown craft paper wrapping paper at the dollar store and I'm using it this year for gifts and using paint markers just like you did.
Been doing this for years. I have "miles" of this stuff rolled up and waiting for the appropriate decor. I haven't purchased gift wrap in YEARS! Good on you!
It was fun!
One of my favorite activities to do since you can get really creative. Makes opening a gift rather special. Heck! Enjoy the season!
You two are awesome!
Have a very Merry Christmas! 🎄❄️☃️❤️😁
Mira, this was a brilliant idea! I love the different designs you both created. My favourites were, the first one and the last ones you did, and the stick man Dorv painted. I have used that paper to bulk out wire armatures for sculptures, it works just as well as baking foil, but it costs nothing. I have also used the paper just like paper mache. When it's pasted on to a balloon, it can make a mask for example, and it dries super hard.
Tomorrow I am going to take out my acrylic paint pens and my metallic paints, and get my 6yo granddaughter to paint some wrapping paper with me for fun. She's gonna love it! So thank you for the inspiration!
Also, please would you ask Dorv nicely, if he would come on another video and work alongside you again very soon. You guys are so much fun together. True couples goals.
God bless you and all those you love. Merry Christmas to you all from a very chilly village in the UK.
I can't believe how much you and hubby look alike! Seriously....you both have the exact same nose! Too funny! 😂
Love this!! I always save the brown paper. I've shipped etsy products in it, and whenever I use it as wrapping paper (even not decorated), I get compliments. yay for being frugal and sustainable!
I’m too old to have played Oregon Trail, but my kids played it in computer classes as kids in elementary school. It was especially popular when my older son was in school. He is truly a member of the Oregon Trail generation, lol. He even has a t-shirt that says “You have died of dysentery.”
Fun! It's so fun to see your hubby hanging out with you =)
I never played the Oregon Trail computer game, but a friend of the family just gave us the card game version. Only 2 out of 6 made it, lol.
This idea is so cool love it and it was relaxing watching both of you colour and draw 🔥💖💛❤️🥰merry Christmas ⛄🎄💚💜
Missed opportunity for evil laugh after talking about the laminated present. 😊 I do this, it’s fun. One year we gave a present shaker bubble wrap, wrapped around and around in boxes and very package taped. Another year we put the gift in a small box and put bigger and bigger boxes like a nesting doll and each was filled with something that rattled. However, I am the careful… extremely care unwrapper who likes wrapping paper. Most started just giving me the unused wrapping paper instead of wrapping. 😅
Aahhh! It’s been a long day, but oh my goodness, you two together had me laughing multiple times during this! Thank you! 😁
So glad Dorv joined you - I’m signing the petition for more vids with both of you being crafty/artistic together! 📝💜☺️
I love this video! (currently I am writing this to all you videos, becuase they are so full of joy and spark creativity in me) I love reusing and recykling all kind of packaging. My current project is to make junk journal from paper bag (from fast food deliveries) and it includes also lot of creating the patterns, so I was basically painting with you too :D
This video is verging on ASMR with the crinkling paper, Posca shaking, and adorable banter.
The gifts I ordered just started showing up with this paper packing and gave me this idea, that I didn't say out loud, and didn't search about, but UA-cam shows me this video anyway...
I played Oregon Trail in order to pass the first - and only computer class I ever took!! This was so much fun to watch!❤❤❤❤
Oh I´ve been doing this for the last couple of years! Not always painting on the paper though, sometimes just chosing pretty ribbon and going for the "vintage package" style and this year insteas of acrylic markers I went for stamps! It looks really cute even though I am still making a mess of my fingertips every time 😂 But this video makes me wanna try even more different things (but not this year)
I forgot all about using that as wrapping paper but I did take the time to nearly told and remove the wrinkles and he this for customer purchases. Love the drawing on it! And thank you for having your husband join. It truly makes it a family time and so fun and cute. You both are still perfect together! Thank you again!
I can’t quit smiling watching you. You two are adorable and having so much fun with this. Here’s to many more years of you guys enjoying each other
A Dorv appearance Omg so cool. Hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas 🎄
You two are SO adorable together! Also, love this recycling idea. Great job!
Did this as a kid and still have the Christmas paper rolled up somewhere because I thought it was too pretty to use😂. Seriously though, It’d be pretty cool to carve a stamp for this kind of wrapping paper!
Long time ago (40 yrs), I used to paint wrapping paper to match purchased cards for birthdays or Christmas.
Yes loved organ trail he'll yeah.....love watching you
You guys are so sweet! Dorv, get some rest! You've been working too hard! Merry Christmas to all of you! Great craft idea!
Growing up my dad used to wrap everything with brown paper bags and while driving to our extended families house my sister and I would color all over the presents. It was a win win for everyone. Dad didn’t have to buy wrapping and us kids had something to do while on the long car drive and our family got one of a kind packaging.
You guys are so cute love that idea I don’t think my boyfriend would do that with me but I’ll have to ask love all the designs you both came up with
Yes, Oregon Trail! I played Oregon Trail at school, in Oregon.
My Aunt passed away last month and the only thing I want is one of her crusty paint brushes. That way I know she used it all the time and it was one of her favorites and that’s just so special.
So fun! Inspired to do some with my kiddos. Also, you and your hubby together - adorable!
If you haven’t tried Oregon Trail -The phone app one. It’s pretty good honestly. I dedicated quite a many hours into it. I love it
Did you know that there is an Oregon trail card game? It's pretty fun if you like card games
You two are so cute together. I totally remember Oregon trail, back in the floppy disc days lol.
👋 yes to the Oregon Trail & died many times! Thanks for actually making me laugh out loud!
Did everyone else cringe every time they shook the Poscas without the lids on?
Also, you two are sickeningly cute! Lol!
🤣 Art Fam Mom 🤣 I could be Mira’s mom. Maybe I’m the Art Fam Grandma 😂
that makes me the great-great grandma!!!

This is so timely and so useful! Thre is time, love and care put into every design=)I know your close ones are gonna enjoy the presents=)
Children are very exhausting! I have a toddler and an infant. I feel for you guys! Working full time with kids is the hardest thing I have ever done.
I watch your videos with my 6 year old. She loves to create art and cannot wait to make her own wrapping paper now. Thank you for the awsome project idea! 😀
I just made stamped paper bags for gift wrapping this morning. I used some apples that were going soft to make stamps. It was supposed to be a fun activity with my kid, but she refused to participate so it was a fun solo activity for me.
