“It’s like we’re watching quick teaser trailers from multiple different movies.” That’s probably because this movie was actually edited by a trailer company. I wish I was joking.
Under the category of treating the viewer like he’s an idiot, it seems that every twenty minutes into the movie, Deadshot has to say, “you know, we’re the bad guys.”.
He's done it before in Batman The Animated Series. It's one reason why Robin left to become nightwing. And this movie is from the villains perspective so yeah, batman would look bad too
@@MrMikeman1090 It might have worked well in Suicide Squad if it had portrayed how Batman was becoming more unhinged after the death of Robin. Except for the fact that he was just massacring people in Batman v. Superman and there's no signs of anyone being like "You know, the Batman's started killing people. That's weird."
I can see the alleyway part due to his parents demise in a alleyway but he attacked a dad in front of his son and wife in the Animated Series which is regarded as one of the best adaptations of Batman so yeah.
The really weird thing is, according to Batman: The Animated Series, where Harley Quinn was originally introduced, she teamed up with the Joker because he gaslit her. He's a psychopath, she was his therapist at Arkham asylum, and as psychopaths often do, he lied and manipulated her to turn his psychosis into folie à deux. In the real world, that's an occupational hazard for therapists who work with psychopaths. The movies seem to completely ignore that, and try to act like Harley was *always* a sadistic sociopath.
They also try to force an actual mutual romantic relationship between them, and this was another one of Snyder's shittt ideas, seeing how he maintains this stupid plot point in ZSJL post apocalyptic scene
@@AstaIsAMonster Mm yes he did, this version of the characters is entirely Snyder's vision, that means the hot topic Joker having an actual romance with Harley Quinn is also Snyder's idea, it's even in the Snyder Cut when Batman threatens Joker by telling him about Harley and he has a shocked reaction meaning he cares about her which is completely stupid
Actually the "Baby I can't swim!" moment actually is the accurate portrayal. Its the rest that is wrong. Harley Quin is a character that is seduced by the idea of the Joker but deep down she isnt as violent as he is, save when pushed over a very certain line. The dynamic of the two is that Joker charms and uses Harley and Harley believes he actually loves her. Harley only turns truly violent towards joker and only when in the few times that he gets unusually upset and loses control, revealing to her that he doesn't really care about her beyond her being his tool. THIS causes her to flip the fuck out to the point that she becomes crazier and more violent than even the Joker and the Joker has to struggle to regain control, often falling back on a "I was just kidding! Of course you mean the world to me. It was just necessary for my grand scheme to succeed." type of line. That is what is so great about Harley. She is 90% normal pretending to be crazy out of her need for Joker but that other 10% is full on crazy white female murderous insanity that even outstrips the Joker, the king of crazy himself. So just when she has you convinced that her problems all stem from the Joker and your ready to see her as a victim, you find out she isn't and may even be worse than the Joker if she ever lost him. The Joker doesnt make Harley crazy. The Joker makes Harley sane.
That scene was actually well thought out because it was meant to show that Joker doesn't really care about her, which is why he would leave her to DROWN, which he does. If Batman didn't save her, he would have let her die. THAT is the real relationship they have. Harley is in love with someone who doesn't love her. She's a stockholm victim. The original cut of the film was probably going to have her actually leave the Joker, BUT they cut out more of his abusive scenes and then had him save her in the end, which makes zero sense.
@@BloodnightStudios "BUT they cut out more of his abusive scenes and then had him save her in the end, which makes zero sense. " This film flip flops on how the Joker treats Harley. At the beginning it goes out of his way to show us that the Joker doesn't care about Harley and then he spends the rest of the film trying to break her out. Everything with the head guard and the helicopter rescue was him trying to save her which he finally does at the end.
@@robinbrown6530 This is exactly why I was so insanely disappointed by this whole birds of prey movie s-show. It would've been a perfect opportunity to explore this deeply crazy and dark side of Harley after she loses the Joker, but instead they clipped her down to feel like a dumb side character in her own movie. I really like the character of Harley Quinn, would love some sort of psychological thriller interpretation with her as main character, but these newer DC movies are doing her extremely dirty.
Y'know, I never thought about it before, but her flashback has her holding up a sign that says "Harley Quinn". That's her alias- her real name is Harleen Quinzel. Shouldn't a mug shot be taken with the perpetrator's *real* name?
I'm not defending this movie, but, Flagg was explaining it to the characters because they don't speak Japanese, or have subtitles magically appear for them, I know that it didn't need to be explained twice, but, it's kind of important for the characters to understand another characters backstory, so they can sympathize with them, so the audience will
@@MyNameIsRow01 Then we could have cut the part where Katana says it. She already knows. The sword already knows. Besides which I don't remember Captain Boomerang doing anything sympathetic specifically for Katana that justifies him needing to learn this backstory.
@mercaius yeah, I forgot to mention it in the comment, but they should have cut the part with Katana talking to the sword, and they should have combined the scene in the bar with this scene, and then had them all go around talking about their backstory in order to make the audience sympathetic instead of making the audience uncomfortable when they start talking about Diablo's backstory, I'm not saying the movie is perfect, it has alot of problems, but some of them aren't serious problems with the film, but are more so problems with the editing and writing
Problems with writing and editing are problems with the film, half the time it takes to make a move is after all the scenes are made. And he is just giving an example of the flaw, these issues are present in the entire movie. Here we can see that they sre repeting themselfs, not in the pov of the characters but for the audience. And they are the ones that matter. I remember a guy who went scene by scene for the starwars ep8 movie and fining mayor flwas in every single one of them, to prove the point that the movie is bad to the core. The same can be donde here filmento just focused in one scene, and he can spend more time explaining the issues than the actual time the scene takes.
Yes this is entirely right. While guardians was an ensemble movie, peter is still our protagonist. It's about him and his relationships with various members of the team. And their personalities clashing.
To further on Guardians, it starts with him, and from the first moment he pops up on the screen and the following few minutes, shows him who he is, how he is, with a girl, fooling/clowning around, but still very capable and smart under that goofy side everyone sees, which also makes others underestimate him. And then from his POV, like you said we get the introductions to Gamora/Rocket/Groot, who also make themselves clear as characters very fast (the "why" they act the way they act), and from there we get introduced to things, one step at a time. Suicide Squad just throws you right in without a single care, into all of them at the same time... Just slowing down the movie, and letting us follow it from Franks perspective and having him walk around recruiting (or having Deadshot be the first and the he does it instead), wouldve made it so many times better, alas... And if we look at, for example the first Avengers movie, the characters in the movie, had already had a whole "solo movie" of introduction, or had a significant part in at least one of them beforehand, before they were all put together, if the first MCU movie was the avengers, without introductions, it would have been far less liked by people, simply because we would need to be introduced to so many of them within the span of the movie, while also progressing the plot Rather than going into the movie already knowing who they all are. A great thing as well is with Spiderman, in which, with several movies of him already, we already know his "introduction story", so the only thing they need to introduce to us, is "how MCU spiderman is", which is shown very well from the first scene he shows up in, and then from the first few scenes in Homecoming we get a clear view of how MCU Peter is when hes not spiderman. While all movies have ups and downs, theres just such a difference in how MCU and DCU handles characters, introduction, and "groups" (which i in part think is because DC is in a rush to "play catchup" so they dont take they, and we, need wit hthe characters)
9:19 I always loved Katana in the comics, and when she finally appears in a movie, they ruin a nice cast and good characterization. I would love see her portraied by this actress again, but thanks to this train wreck, this will not gonna happen.
I think they only started a few like less than 10 people but other UA-camrs also followed it just because it was getting popular so a lot of them just followed it without getting invites
Asari 702 no one will ever know except for the UA-camrs and honestly I don't come on UA-cam just to hear them cry bitch and whine like a bunch of little girls just because they didn't get an invite or they ignored an invite. Truthfully if I was any UA-camr regardless of how successful they are or may have been or may end up being I will consider it a massive honor to be invited to one of those things so much so that I would go above and beyond to look more than my Sunday best and to make sure that I actually got there just so I could socialize with these pioneers of entertainment.
"This movie thinks that we're a bunch of idiots." I couldn't agree more. I don't understand why so many Hollywood films and anime shows these days have no understanding about the concept of Show, Don't Tell. So when a movie like A Quiet Place comes out which has minimal dialogue, it feels fresh and unique when in fact, it's just adhering to this basic principle in the most dedicated form possible.
I remember reading somewhere that Aragorn's introduction was intentionally delayed as far as possible. Frodo met him in the prancing pony and audience view him from frodo's point of view. later he saved the hobbitses from the wraith. that was why he was such a towering figure.

you missed the oppportunity to do: "you have my sword" ( ARAGORN, DUNEDAIN, THE RANGER, SUP GONDOR) "and you have my bow" (LEGOLAS, SINDARIN ELF, BADASS ARCHER, DEADSHOT OF MIDDLE EARTH) "and my axe!" (GIMLI, DWARFLORD, ELVES R GROSS, NOT THE BEARD!)
It kinda has that Borderlands vibe where I really didn't give a shit about any of the playable characters introduced in the opening scene and found it really hard to pick one because they were all forgettably boring. When getting into the game, I grew accustomed to them based on the dialogue, so maybe that's what happens in Suicide Squad as well. People eventually get used to their favourite characters and ignore how bad their introduction was.
Marvel: Manages to build itself back up from basically nothing through a series of movies that treat the source material with respect but are still willing to go in different directions. DC: Hey, I can do that too! DC: Completely loses audience interest with a series of grimderp flicks that seem to genuinely hate the characters involved.
BloodyAltima to be honest you and this guy would complain even if dc literally scanned every page of the comic books and released the scanned images as a pdf file to theatres. This is less about what dc did or didn’t do and more about just blatantly hating whatever it is they do. It’s old, it’s tired. Suicide Squad is 3 years old, it’s sequel/spin off is already done shooting and is in post production, no one cares anymore. Aquaman is literally an exact adaptation of Geoff Johns New 52 run and this guy still found multiple things to complain about, follow the comics or don’t, damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If you don’t like the movies stop talking about them or watching them and go do something productive with your life
@@benedicto2031 I mean, yeah, a straight shot-for-shot adaptation of a comic would make a pretty shite movie- see also, Killing Joke. What works in one medium is different than what works in another, and what makes Aquaman work is that it's just a dumb fun movie with no pretentions of being anything else, so while it certainly still has faults, it is at least enjoyable. Aside from that, I do want to note the special irony of you saying, 'no-one cares, do something productive, etc.' when you put out a comment more than twice the length of the one I did while entirely missing the point of the comment I made. Yeah, you just know he is going to die because he comes out of nowhere and gets the worst introduction possible. Also, what was he supposed to do when fighting Enchantress? Challenge her to a climbing duel? Even Harley at least has a bat and a gun. He just has gear for climbing.

I think most people think it's funny because their moms have the same name but the scene was he was about to murder this all powerful alien when he says the last words his father said before he was murdered and batman thinks superman is fucking with him. It isn't until lois throws herself on him saying it's his mom that batman realised this dude isn't some alien trying to invade but just some guy trying to do the right thing and he is the bad guy
@@Kill3rrockstar I think that scene couldve been executed better tbh. Cus now the the general consensus will be that Batman spared Superman's life cus their mom share the same name, and that is pure jokes and memes in itself.
@@Kill3rrockstar - Ultimately the scene fails because it revolves around Superman randomly blurting out his mother's name and the fact that if Martha wasn't the name than Batman would've killed Superman. It's only made worse by Batman's convoluted 1% chance of turning evil as the driving force behind Batman wanting to kill Superman. The same Batman who kills people without giving it a second thought is concerned about the safety of people. But then this Batman only kills random thugs and never kills The Joker or Harley so who the hell knows how to make any sense of all this.
@@The_24th_Sage If thats the general consensus then people are really fucking stupid and cant see literally anything unless you spell it out to them. There was an article few years back saying that will smith decided to ditch independence day 2 for suicide squad after looking at the script. After watching both... i can say he made the right choice. Suicide squad was an undeniable clusterfekk, but he was generally the main star, it was a new project for him, and he gets to play with guns. ID2 on the other hand... well they killed or sidestepped all the legacy characters to make way for the new ones and the whole thing was as, if not more, messy than suicide squad.
All of the Marvelous Scenes I saw freely encouraged any UA-camr to join in on the fun, it didn't seem like an invite only thing to me and I would love to hear what your favorite scene actually was! Regardless, this was a great breakdown of something that really cripples the Suicide Squad. I hadn't been able to pin point the disjointed nature of the introductions and then the betrayal of the very nature of the most iconic characters in the film.
Yea no offense but this guy is really ignorant. All of them made a open invitation for anyone to do one, but he wants to victimize himself. UA-camrs with less subs have done it. He’s being childish about it.

Couldn't agree more. This scene bothered me from the moment I saw it. Compare this to its .intended equivalent in the MCU, guardians of the galaxy. The characters are introduced organically one by one and only after we've met them and seen them in action did the lineup give a little more background info.
In a way, GOTG did the reverse of The Dirty Dozen by starting with individuals before moving onto the lineup. And even then, Drax gets introduced AFTER the lineup.
I can fix Harley’s opening scene very quickly and easily. Remove her smashing her face into the bars and instead do this, while she’s licking the bars in front of the soldier, she quickly grabs his vest and slams HIM into the bars, then play it off like she did nothing wrong or had fun doing it. Now you have presented that she uses sex to show a weakness, exploits it violently, and shows no remorse for doing so. Now she is shown to actually be dangerous and possibly crazy.
Budget Boost DIY you're wrong. Harley Quinn acts VERY differently when she's with Joker. Almost like a helpless dog. As someone who reads the comics, the "baby, I can't swim" thing is actually very accurate. Even in the comics, when joker asks to cut off her face, she isn't laughing she's crying. She trusts the joker even though he is CONSTANTLY breaking that trust. Even Bruce knows this.

I wish they used Robin’s death better. They don’t even talk about it, like, there are only two tiny moments that that sort of mention it, each in a different movie. It should be a big part of Batman’s character but it’s barely acknowledged. Although, I do have to say that I’m glad they aren’t using Robin’s character much in the DCEU because it means that they can’t ruin my favourite DC character
However, if they handled his death as they did in the comics, you could have an entire series of movies on that alone. Batman went literally crazy. He wasn't sleeping, he wasn't eating, he was just out there nonstop every night and day fighting criminals. He was running around with barely patched up gunshot wounds and knife wounds. After... oh, I think it was two weeks straight of this, he got into a confrontation with Bane, and lost. As in... Bane broke his back. So, while he was in recovery, there were two or three people who ran around as Batman. The last being Dick Grayson who, many in-universe characters have argued, was better at being Batman than Batman, because the Bat is merciless even if he doesn't kill, while Dick/Nightwing only uses as much force as necessary to stop someone. Oh, and not to mention that Robin was killed right after Barbara Gordon had been paralyzed by Joker. Batman held it together after that, but Robin/Jason Todd AND her was too much.
Chayyiel Yeah, Batman went through a lot in the comics and I understand that the DCEU can’t really show all that during the films, but Robin’s death actually happened in the movie universe and I think it should have some more noticeable consequences shown to the audience. But whatever. I’m glad that at least we have the comics and some awesome animated movies (e.g Batman under the Red Hood)
@@CatalinaRC23 I know. I've been desperately watching the DC movies in the hopes they'd get better. But they're also redoing a lot of the canon. James Gunn confirmed Suicide Squad 2 is actually a reboot of Suicide Squad. Affleck and Cavill are out. This is a massive shakeup. And with them taking Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam in the correct direction, a lot might change. And they absolutely could do all of that in the movies. They've done a lot of that in the cartoons. They did the Killing Joke in cartoon format. BTW, I do actually think Ben did great as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He was just part of a terrible script and terrible production, and people (including me) love to hate on him for his bad movie choices.

Instead of "Baby... Baby I can't swim!"
Harley just said: Shit. I can't even swim. *Laughs maniacally* Woohoo!
Would've been epic.
Probably more fitting too
Actually the "Baby I can't swim!" moment actually is the accurate portrayal.
@@BloodnightStudios
"BUT they cut out more of his abusive scenes and then had him save her in the end, which makes zero sense.
"
This film flip flops on how the Joker treats Harley.

*MIND BLOWN*
Well, we did PAY to see Avengers: Endgame, didn't we?
kevrulz06 Yeah. A good ass movie.
to OUR credit, we had no way to know the movie was going to be this bad.
That scene where Katana's backstory is narrated to the audience *twice* is my favorite talking point for why Suicide Squad is badly composed.
I'm not sure why Katana is even in this movie.
To wit, he's our POV character, even with relevant cutaways to other characters and scenes.
Not having a focus for a plot almost always leads to confusion; Marvel manages to ace this by giving it a macguffin or character to focus on.
Lets see what james gunn does with this sequel for once im exited for a sequel to a ehh at best movir
And if we look at, for example the first Avengers movie, the characters in the movie, had already had a whole "solo movie" of introduction, or had a significant part in at least one of them beforehand, before they were all put together, if the first MCU movie was the avengers, without introductions, it would have been far less liked by people, simply because we would need to be introduced to so many of them within the span of the movie, while also progressing the plot
Rather than going into the movie already knowing who they all are.

Shows how little you care, I guess.

Compare this to its .intended equivalent in the MCU, guardians of the galaxy. The characters are introduced organically one by one and only after we've met them and seen them in action did the lineup give a little more background info.

"I can't swim!" Thank you. Your the first person to bring this up. It bugged me so much!
@@atomiplex8956 I think he means visually and as a story telling device. The lady literally just said shes "fearless" then the next scene it shows her being afraid.
That's Oscar winning film Suicide Squad to you
@Shreyas Misra I mean, compared to suicide squad. Avengers is absolute shit home dawg. Suicide squad is very deep and has good story telling. The avengers is just gay, especially the ass scene that made my dick hard but at the same time it was gay
@@dbchoobie1924 wtf?
@@dbchoobie1924 I love you
Still not about story. The good makeup does not affect the quality of the story.

Dangerous would be like the one comic where she designed and sold thousands of copies of a handheld console. After selling every copy, she had the programmer update the console, which detonated the explosives in every one of them, killing thousands
Dude keep up the amazing work! You have no idea how much of an impact you have improved my writing with your in-depth analysis of everything. Thank you! I'm forever indebted
Filmento is best teacher. 😝
The LotR montage gave me gave me crippling laughter
You had me at "Arrogant high-and-mighty sunzabitches", I literally did a spit-take LMFAOOOOOOOO
"...an edgier Hot Topic version of himself"...Yes that's it!
I love how you say "1 DC-sastrous scene" but you talked about 5 - 6 scenes.
I disagree with you on one point. There is nothing wrong with having a movie with an ensemble cast. You don't NEED a primary protagonist for a movie to work( though it helps).
There ARE lots of other things wrong with this movie.
Can you give some examples? I haven't watched enough ensemble movies to get a clear picture of how it would work
Honestly i wish there were some more actually good movies that have an ensemble cast, the rarer ideas are always the more interesting ones
The Hateful Eight by Quentin Tarantino is a good example
I don't think Filmento said "Don't have an ensemble cast" he said "Introduce one character first, then introduce everyone else from his point of view, which becomes the audience's point of view." They can still be an ensemble, right? The first character can see them as an ensemble.
@@alexg4218 but that also starts off with focusing on one character then slowly introducing the rest of the cast, just like filmento wished suicide squad did
This channel (Filmento) is way much better than the CinemaSins.
Because cinemasins ain't meant to be taken seriously
Cinema sins isn't funny though
A video channel consisting of nothing other than videos watching meat slowly decay would be better than CinemaSins.
@@RickReasonnz 😂
Idk, I watch CinemaSins in order to not watch the actual movie, lol, like foundflix
That Fellowship of the Ring character introduction had me DEAD
2 things:
1) I enjoyed I Frankenstien more than Suicide Squad. The only good thing in Suicide Squad is Margot Robbie. I Frankenstein was at least enjoyable in a "it's 4am and I'm bored, what's on?" kind of way.
2) One Marvelous Scene was arranged by a channel and he invited a few others. But also said anyone can take part by making a video and getting it added to the playlist. So you can invite yourself!!
Will Smith and Jay Courtney were also the best part of the movie
The whole him not being invited was a joke man
I'm forever spiteful against Robbie because of the fact that her Harley is a mother fucking trainwreck.
Other than being insanely hot, what was great about her? She didn't even do Harley's accent which she has had since the beginning in nearly every incarnation. She's Australian so I know she can do accents just fine. Her American one is pretty good so I'm sure she could pull off the Arleen Sorkin way of speaking. I think she's a pretty good actress too, she could be a perfect Harley in a better movie. Which is coming so taht's good.
And here I thought that everything Eisenberg-Lex Luthor was the worst in the DCEU..silly me..
Mjølnir He is but that doesn’t mean he has the worst scene
There are plenty to hate on BvS than the Lex Eisenberg aspect.
"Started by very prominent UA-camr Filmento who has lots of friends, online and in real life." i like you filmento :)
Who's here after they left him out of one x-cellent scene as well???
Wait he was
@@thealchemist1224 check out his Twitter, he wasn't aware of it. I'm subscribed to browntable and he released his at the exact same time as a bunch of other UA-camrs but not filmento
Man, you are different class compared to other youtubers. Your videos have so much truth that and insight compared to others that they I assume feel insecure to work with you. Keep on doing what you do. Your channel is the biggest discovery I made last year! I rarely watch video more than once and yours are the only exception. Great work!!!
"If I wanted someone to tell me a story I'd just stay at home and listen to an audio book."
Ironically books that are any good will still show you the story, just with words. Boring exposition is boring exposition regardless of the medium.
Yup. Show don't tell is a very big thing in novel writing.
Too right...you have to include SOME detail to give a sense of setting. But too many novelists overdo it.
Who’s here after the old thumbnail disappeared? Biggest tragedy of 2021
I don't know why nobody ever compares character introduction scene to the one in Blade II. Guillermo Del Toro used the least lines to show us the dynamic of an entire team of vampires.
