- One question I get often asked is what tools, mods, and resources I use for building in Terraria. Today, I thought I’d have a build tip video on that. If you’d like more basic tutorials, let me know in the comments!

0:00 now that's my kind of house
All hail the great Shoe box!
It's the best with no doubt
Of course...
Lol
Hi chippy
Yeah, that is my kind of house, too...
hey, theres a mod that gives you the walls available underground and stuff, its called allthewalls.
Fancy! Thanks!
no problem.
@@chrisdickson8020 Cheat Sheet has them? I didnt know!
I think Chad's Furniture Mod allows you to craft Unsafe Walls from normal walls and back (Eg: Dungeon Brick Walls into Dungeon Brick Walls that allow spawning of enemies, or Spider Cave Walls into Spider Walls that don't spawn spiders or cobwebs)
Chad's Furniture Mod does a similar thing. Craftable safe and unsafe walls as well as a bunch of different building materials from common resources. I highly recommend.
I remember when you only had 10K subs, I haven’t been on UA-cam for nearly a year and a half and the first thing I get in my recommendations is this video, I look at your sub count and see 70k... it’s so nice to see you haven’t quit UA-cam and are doing very well. Keep up the good work man!
Yeah, the channel has grown faster than I ever imagined! Thanks for hanging around! :D
I’m feeling like an ancient tortoise remembering him under.. er.. was yat ye ,, hmmm.. 500? No, me ol’ thinklet thinks de wa even 200 hmmmm 🐢
@Areegyol, pardon?
Rob Adrian I tried to talk like a very very old English person 😅. But I haven’t read enough of that style to pick up the words and the style.
If I think, I’m not that great with imitating even an ancient version of my own language 🤔
Or am i 🌚
Rob Adrian Also, cool pfp 👀
Like the new intro style :3
Thank you!
Same
It’s kinda funny right like it adds a happy feel to it
Hella yeah
If mods are being used, I would recommend hero's mod for the built in freeze time feature and Fargo's soul mod for the world shaper soul, which does everything all the accessories here do and then some, including no mob spawns and infinite tile placement range.
It's not actually infinite in my experience. It's definitely a screen-size but there's a limit. At least when using the Smart Cursor.
The world shaper would is screen wise. If you use binoculars you can see
Ahhh PTSD back to Masochist mode
hero's mod also give the option of infinite reach
I love your videos, just wondering why you talk in slow motion, no offense
I think you should try the LuiAFK mod, it has an Improved Actuation Rod that can actuate/unactuate blocks without actuators, and it can be dragged over rows of blocks.
I agree, that mod adds so many QOL items and mechanics.
Agreed.
Yep. My favourite QOL mod, so much good stuff.
Even if I don't use some of the more "Cheaty" elements of the LuiAFK mod, I always have that thing installed. It's too valuable.
@@nebulous9280 i like the unlimited items for when I'm having to, *ahem*, practice a boss for example lol. Cant be arsed with grinding for lots of elements. Less usefull maybe for building when you can just use the god mode anyway.
I recommend Calamity or Thorium as far as content mods go.
It’s hard to go wrong with either, but Thorium has a style closer to vanilla whereas Calamity is more of its own thing if that matters at all
Thats also called being boring, Calamity and Thorium are too common and have too much content for starters to content mods. TBH I fell that the best starter mod would be Exodus since it adds in a heap of modded bosses but they're just a spec of dust compared to Ragnarok or C Lam
@@carriedthunder3883 "too much content for starters"
i disagree tbh. standalone they may be too much, but i recently started calamity and use fargo's NPC mod (for boss items etc.) and a recipe browser alongside the calamity wiki (for status messages, knowing which drops bosses have) and i feel like i am doing just fine.
also wtf is boring about these mods? just because they're popular? weird reasoning
MarkCrafty Calamity is the perfect mod in my opinion. It fits so nicely with base terraria and even goes to give the vanilla bosses unique themes. It’s a biased opinion because I haven’t tried thorium tho
Shootthechickenb ‘ I agree with this opinion.
But I definitely recommend trying Thorium, either on it’s own or alongside Calamity.
Although it may be a bit difficult to use Thorium’s gear on some Calamity bosses, it’s still fun to try.
I agree with MarkCrafty, you should use either Thorium or Calamity. But Calamity is much harder than Thorium but it adds much more content (if you play in Expert, Revengeance or Death Mode) ,especially Post Moonlord .
Because I know not everyone has the patience to get through the video multiple times, I'll make a list:
Pickaxe- whatever works for you. You can use a drill instead if you don't mind the noise.
1:17 Axes and hammers- hamaxe for quick clearing, slower hammer for shaping blocks in order to not break walls (pwnhammer works for this, but find best balance for you)
2:56 Drill containment unit- useful for terraforming, but glitches block shaping a little on servers
3:28 Paint- use spectre paintbrush/scraper for reach, if possible
3:41 Extra stuff- cell phone for recall and time, rod of discord for tping, ice rod for midair building
4:00 Wiring- presserator to automatically place actuators, actuation rod to actuate, grand design for wire work and ruler.
4:45 Summoning tool- anything that can travel through blocks, if possible (such as stardust dragon)
5:03 Inventory expansion- money trough, safe, defender's forge. Especially if you aren't using mods.
5:42 Tools- I recommend watching the section, but TL;DR, use toolbelt (+1 reach), toolbox (+1 reach), architect gizmo pack (combines brick layer, portable cement mixer, extend-o-grip, and paint sprayer. These items will not stack effects with the pack.) ( 6:53 for painting explanation)
7:52 Recommended accessories- architect gizmo pack, tool box, tool belt, wings, and anti-knockback shield (recommended, figure out what works best)
External Resources:
8:19 Block/wall palette. I recommend watching this bit. Some links in desc, find one that you like.
9:30 TEdit. External map editor. (Personally, I downloaded it as a map viewer when I started playing again after 1.4. It supports actual textures if you have the game downloaded on the computer you're using. It works great as a map viewer even if you don't use it for editing, like I don't.) Again, watch this bit.
9:51 Mods. Links in desc, watch section for more info.
This was mostly for the in-game tools and items, so apologies for lack of info on the external stuff.
Edit: I think the items that place stuff might be important, too. Such as the livingwood/leaf wands. Please reply with more because I'm not experience at all with terraria and building.
Alright. Other things that might be useful (feel free to add things in comments):
Regrowth staff
Livingwood/leaf wands
Infinite water/lava buckets and sponges
The sponges for lava/water, if you make any mistakes/change your mind on anything
The void bag for even more storage (not sure if this item was in the game when this video was made)
Thorium is 100% the most content-rich, true-to-vanilla mod out there, and will give you plenty of new things to play around with. I've worked w/ the lead dev & sprite artists and they are very hardworking & detail-oriented! There's a lot of vanity blocks and furniture, too 👀
I rarely comment but this is the video I have been waiting for lol. I wanted to start building things but even after watching your tutorials I still am overwhelmed with how much materials materials and items you use ~ looking forward for more beginner level tutorials 💕
Thank you! I've watched a few of your other vids (which were great) but this is the starting point I needed. Great content. I'm looking forward to more building tips, tricks, and ideas.
Just found this channel yesterday, and I’ve not seen such a neat channel in ages!
I have been waiting for this for so long. Thank you!
When diving into content mods, I'd suggest thorium first, however its totally up to you and your play style
Also, I'd love to see more beginner videos like this! Learning some basic stuff could really help out my barbaric housing style
The more videos I watch from you, the more I get to know about all the possabilities in Terraria so I get even more hyped to play it! Thank you so much
Thank you for explaining what mods and tools. Very helpful!
This video was really great. I’m just starting to get into building and I look up to your build style a lot. Thanks!
I’ve never been so glad to see a channel doing well
Hey Khaos I just wanted to say I looove your videos and watch them as soon as they come out! You're awesome and really really talented :) I hope you have a lovely day!
Thank you! I appreciate these tutorials that explain the tools needed. I've not been playing this game for very long, so i like this information.
I really like when you post tips and tricks for building. It inspires me and shows me how i can build better
I love watching your vids because it helps me get better at building. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this! I just started playing with my 5 year old and this is helping so much to answer all his questions :D
Nice guide Khaios! It’s very helpful!
Brilliant! Please make more, it really helped me build a hotel in my friends world!
Yep it did by the way I’m his friend
I very much recommend using Djinn’s Curse for much easier, higher flight.
As for mods, I don’t have much experience but Elements Awoken has the Hourglass of Eternity which allows you to toggle day/night at will, similar items for rain and sandstorms, and ultra-fast boots which also function as wings.
Calamity has THREE pairs of ultra-fast boots which also function as wings, along with the Cosmolight which allows you to toggle day/night at will, similar item for rain is the Torrential Tear.
Man, I'm brazilian and I started to see Your videos in a few days and I already love your channel man, You have perfect habilities in building, congratulations.
Thank you very much ^.^ Welcome to the channel!
@@Khaios thanks bro, I wish all the best for you. ^-^
Good to see you back up and running.
i have thought of making a video like this for awhile, but here u come and make a perfect one :3
I've needed this for so long
Awesome tips and vid quality overall! Keep it up ;)
Thank you sooo much! I didnt realize I could copy/paste selections on CheatSheet like that. That’s gonna save me big time when I build
Thank you! Ive been wondering what you use. Thanks!
Just what I've been looking for, thanks!
i want to see what kind of magic can you build with only wood, stone and dirt. (no painting, but hammering is allowed)
Hey I love seen ur vids pop up in my notifications love u! Stay awesome!
Eyyy, new video!! Love your channel
I love these beginner tutorials. Make more!
This is extremely helpful! LuiAFK is a very helpful mod that i use for building. It also adds a super drill mount. Thank you for this video it really helps!
Wow I’m early! Hi Khaios! I just recently subscribed and I love your channel. Keep the great work up!!!!!
Thank you, and welcome to the channel!
Hooray! A new Khaios video! Love your content so much, you taught me how to build amazing things!
Hey! Just wanted to say you inspired me to start uploading terraria videos, and ive just put my first one up. Thanks!
This was super useful, thank you!
This helped a lot, thanks so much!!
Such a helpful video and so happy you are back khaios :-)
Wow TKS for this. There was a couple items I didn't know about. I always wondered how you actuated blocks so fast. Always thought it was a mod but to know it's a rod now my own builds will be alot faster. Sweet.
Randomly found this channel, didn't expect god damn Bob Ross of Terraria, 10/10 friend.
Thanks, Khaios, for not talking too loud like other UA-camrs. It's easier to watch it vids when everyone else is asleep👍
I know this isn’t commenters day but an idea for a build is creature themed houses. Not all of them of coarse just a select few that you may find interesting. Your vids are great and have a incredible day!
This is amazing please continue making these 😮
Finally, a great toturial almost everybody wants! Espicially from a great youtuber, like you khaios! Best youtuber
Thorium mod is a fun Terraria mod, attempts to keep the balance with that of Terraria gameplay wise. Adds a fair amount of blocks too, though not nearly as much as say calamity.
I didn't even think you played Terraria, Eden! >.>
@@Khaios wait Destiny 2 isn't Terraria? I've been bamboozled. Haha
Not gonna lie I was really bad at building but watching you’re channel has really helped me.
This helped me a lot and awesome video
Oh wow I haven't been this early since my own birth! This is a video I've been secretly waiting for, so thanks! I shall treat this as a holy token of guiding.
#EarlySquad!
Technically you only arrived on time for your own birth
"Oh wow I haven't been this early since my own birth!"
That one hit me in a place I didn't know existed
Gotta love the accessory mod that lets you turn the gizmo pack into an accessory that has night vision and peace candle effects as well.
Yes! More beginner videos please 💕
NO MATTER HOW MUCH I KNOW THIS MAN GIVES ME MORE TIPS
I love your building videos. Would love to see a British early 1900’s late 1800’s themed archaeological dig for ancient Egypt.
Cant wait to get my laptop so I can play and build in Terraria on the computer instead of mobile.
The Furniture Food and Fun mod has a whooole bunch of gorgeous furniture sets that would be really cool to see you build with ^^
Thanks! I'll definitely give it a look ^.^
Love the frequent uploads. Keep it up Khaios!
Storm hawk? You play terraria?
Chad's Furniture Mod is a great Mod to try, it makes a lot of uncraftable decorations possible to craft, including the cave walls, and it adds a bunch of fancy stuff. Also, Thorium's Yew wood looks epic.
chad's furniture mod and/or furniture, food and fun are two of the best decorative mods out there.
also vipix toolbox has a lot of nice building tools, like a paint selector and a hammer that only shapes blocks.
Those sound really handy ^.^ Thanks!
Recently I’ve been getting into the Calamity mod and I’d really enjoy seeing what you build with the new blocks in the mod and how you progress through it.
You're alive : ) For creative content, I'd recommend Better Paint (you also need Hamstar Helpers to use it). You can mix paint in that one to get all kinds of colors on the RGB spectrum.
this was so much hepful for me, im just starting like to build in terraria and using mods to be able to have the material and didnt knew anything... so thanks! i played a lot before but only to beat the game.
Yeeeee, this video was really helpful! Now I just need to install the mods :3 (and I didn't about the defender's forge, I'm yet to discover the things about the dungeon defenders update :/)
Nobody, litterally nobody at all :
Slime : All it will take to kill you... IS ONE HOP!
Calamity and/or Thorium. I think you would like them, as the content they offer is huge, but also because they add some interesting furniture recipes, food that can be placed, potions that can be placed.. These two really are great mods.
Don’t you just love it when you’re building a house and you just get fucking one-shot by a blue slime?
Blue Slime: Why Hello There
Khaios: Hey Be Careful I have I Hp-
*splat*
I truly appreciate these basic tutorials
For a super helpful mod, I recommend Luiafk. It's a mod that is completely QOL, it has "infinite items" like water, honey and lava buckets. A grand design that doesn't consume wires or actuators. Craftable demon alters. Super speed up and increase building range/speed. You get the point, it's really helpful!
I love your builds and I was wondering if you could do a Japanese style building tips video or a more royal style
Thank you for the kind words! You might find this build tip video helpful ^.^ ua-cam.com/video/rRbean23Xvg/v-deo.html
Chromakey Walls adds a few fun things, invisible blocks and platforms, red/blue/green walls (which is useful for videos, i suppose, not much else) but most importantly for me, a pickaxe with +50 reach and a hammer with +50 reach and insane speed for tearing down walls. And an accessory with +50 reach as well. They can all be crafted without any pre-req items so you can just make the tools when you need them and immediately dump them. Also been using the invisible platforms to make your gibbets.
Others have mentioned luiafk, but I didn't see anyone mention that it also adds an invisible housing token, which is also nice for the gibbets.
You had me at "invisible blocks"
This is so helpful
Love you Khaios
I honestly really enjoyed this
In Fargo's soul mod there's an accessory called the builders soul which gives you a building range as large as your screen and other stuff to. Definitely recommended
Thanks man, very helpful
1.4 made me step it up and I’m really liking the new houses I’m making. For some reason it gives me way more motivation to make it look good if size matters now :)
Now there is even more splendid tools like the Hand of Creation! :D
you killed me with that intro that was so cute
So, (written before you explained this) I tried building for a bit, and quickly understood why you keep both celestial tools (pickaxe and hamaxe) as well as a pwnhammer. The pwnhammer’s lower power gives you more control when shaping blocks without breaking the walls behind them. Plus it’s able to destroy altars if need be.
I highly recommend Thorium as a content mod. One of the things I love about it is how well it integrates with the vanilla game. Imo it feels like a legit expansion instead of a 3rd party mod
Hay bro I just got back on UA-cam and i got a lot of your vids on my recommendation keep up the good work 250k wow I have know words
I love and need more beginner vids bro
Thanks for the tips!
I recommended this last time you asked about content mods, but Calamity may be a good mod to try out. Maybe not for its infamous brutal difficulty, but for the sheer amount of extra materials that it adds that could potentially be used in builds.
Maybe try building with Calamity? I don’t know about very many building/decorating materials from that mod, but some of the ores look like their bricks could look pretty good.
So you have the obvious one: Fargo's. You have content creations with bosses and biomes and the new blocks/walls/furniture sets that come along with them, like Calamity and Thorium. There are mods that do building stuff. I'd avoid Furniture Food and Fun, as I think it's a bit too colorful. I'd suggest Chad's Furniture mod as I like it's alternate glass and furniture additions.
Love your videos! :D
Luiafk is also good ,it adds a bunch of stuff to make parts of the game less tedeous (mostly farming),I'm referring to it's combo rod ,it has a paint mode ,wall mode for quickly placing it,a tile mode for sloping and actuation ,a wire mode and a liquid mode ,it doesn't consume any items
Loved the new intro !
I just started building in terraria so this helped me alot
You inspire me to start uploading terraria videos!
You should! Terraria could always use more content creators ^.^
@@Khaios No excuse not to now haha!
Basic stuff like this is great because when it comes to building, I have absolutely no Idea what I'm doing.
love your vids. Your the best
You should try calamity and thorium, they both have enormous amounts of building blocks. Great video btw
The static hook is also really good to have. It’s bought from the Steampunker for 50 gold and allows you to easily control where you are mid air. The Martian saucer mount also helps
I come back and you are already at 70k. Congratulations!
Sorry for bad speech I am Mexican.
