Hi I have a question? I recently got the g16 it has a rtx 4060, and a i9 13900HX, with 16gb ram I would prefer not to have to re-add all my programs and re-add Windows 11. I’m definitely wanting to add at least 32 GB of RAM to it, possibly the 64 you did. If I only do the RAM and unplug the battery, then take the old RAM out and replace it, Would I still need to re-download everything on the laptop? With my current programs I have on the laptop be OK if I just did the ram?
Hi, Quick Question, Idk if you’ll respond, but recently I’ve got the same model (Dell G16 7630 w/ 13900HX), and I bought Crucial 2x32GB DDR5 4800 in replacement of the Samsung 16GB 5600 (aka Factory RAM). Crucial Confirmed that 64GB would work for this model, but when I placed the 2x32 GB Sticks in the Laptop, Instead of booting up a few minutes after training, It was stuck in Memory Training for hours, and I wasted over 120+ Hours to see if the laptop is training, but it stalled completely. I’ve tried using one 32 GB stick only but it still stalled completely, and even the laptop recognizes all 64GB RAM, but refuses to memory training and POST into Windows. I deeply wanna know what the issue is on why I can’t manage to get this system to boot with 64GB RAM, I am aware that Dell claims that this system was designed only for up to 32 GB RAM, but most users have tested on getting up to not just 64 GB, but 96gb ram to work and utilized (sourced from Reddit). Is it the BIOS that’s flagging the 3rd Party RAM? Is it a Settings in the hidden BIOS that prevents other RAM from being trained other than Samsung, even putting back the factory RAM booted up and posted a minute later? Please let me know, Thanks! Edit: Forgot to Mention BIOS Version I’m on is 1.21.0 (The Latest Version in my model)
Thank you so much for this amazing video. First, is there some real gain to use ram more than the specification of dell, because probably the bus could be the main limitation? And also it means lower battery life, warmer computer and so often using fans and so more noise. Do you think it could reduce the reliabilitt of the machine? I need more ram but with these consideration I am not sure to go to more than 4800Mhz. And is there some significant improvement to do that for light room or music making for example? For ssd, it looks now the faster are evo90pro, so I think I ll go for them, I would like to go to raid 1 config but I am afraid to lose data if of both fails. Do you have any idea on how much raid 1 can sufer from lack of reliability? Thank you so much :)
Personally i dount the ram change did much. Right now, ddr is top of the line. 4.8k or 6k, its going to be insanely fast and nearly 0 difference. Now, wait 2 years and get new ddr5 at faster speeds and it will likely work alot better, usually new tech gets optimized and faster over years, even good ddr3 and most ddr4 were the same until more top of the line ddr4s came out. That being said, if you do stuff that is memory intensive like multitasking alot or streaming or video work, higher gb of ram will help.
@@skie6282 I had a great improvment with my old old xps when I upgraded it. I hope ot will be same with this one. My suggestion is always to check it over visibly then once you have set up the laptop and updated it with windows update and alienware update run: cinebench r23 and 3dmark time spy. Use the over drive mode in command centre and record the results. Then check that against what other users get or if the same spec as me use my review 👍
@@MashITTech yes it is exactly the same model as you got. Dell should pay you a premium, your review sold it to me honestly. I also went with your idea of not getting higher ram/ssd and upgrading it myself.

Very good video. I have just one question: Would this laptop support 96GB RAM (crucial)? Technically, the CPU supports 192 GB, so I just wanted to check. I want that much RAM since I would want to use my laptop for Virtualization purposes, and those do take a lot of RAM, and I don't want the laptop to do paging. Really appreciate if you respond to this query.
Great video! Extremely helpful. Could you please let me know how you were able to increase the ram clock speed? The laptop seems to be limited to 4800 Mhz and has no option in the BIOS to tinker with the clock speeds.

I have the same spec, contacted Asus Support and got the following reply - max supported RAM speed is 4800 MHz with max capacity of 32 GB. So the best solution would be 2x16 4800 MHz, no point to buy faster RAM.

Hey uh did you buy a ram kit or 2 sticks of same ram? I'm trying to find a kit but they're expensive and buying two same rams is way cheaper but idk if they will work. Will they?
@@MashITTech thx I will keep that in mind, As for RN I am running two MICRON MTA4ATF1G64HZ-3G2 8GB they came with the laptop and after 2 years its time I upgraded them so researched a bit and finally found KF432S20IB/16 Kingston FURY 16GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL20 SODIMM Fury Impact, these seems better but the thing is buying a 32GB kit of this is around 12K here and buying two 16GB ones is around 6K (IDK why it's like that) so, now I'm confused as I read somewhere that kits are better and sometimes mixing rams just doesn't work. oh well lets see if they work or not
when people talk about mixing ram they usually mean different ram sticks/brands so say a crucial 3200mhz and a fury which seems obvious but some people do this 🤣 if you buy 2x single sticks of fury ram you will get exactly the same sticks as if you bought the kit so there really is no reason to worry

You need the operating system on the ssd for it to work. It is currently on your existing ssd even if you have never used it. Unfortunately you need to clone it or do a fresh install with a USB stick
@MashITTech Well, I'll save your video, I don't plan on upgrading at the moment, so i don't void my year warranty. Would an external ssd be fine? Would be cool to download the games on an external ssd and leave the internal for other stuff.
Does this computer can really support 64GB of ram + 2 x TB of SSD storage ????? Additionally, does the "up to 2 x 1TB" on the manufacturers' technical sheets a real technical limit, or can I still put a 2TB SSD (or more) instead of the 1TB? (for a Lenovo Legion and Asus Rog). Thank you!!
Yes, the ram I linked worked perfectly. And yes you can usually ignore the manufacturers max specs, 2tb easily work in these laptops, you just need to be careful not to buy a double sided 4th drive

Check the partitions. Search for partition manager in windows. If it shows an unallocated space, create a partition and you are good to go. tell me if it works or if you need more asistance.
its only because the p3 plus offer a 4tb single sided ssd so its compatible with most laptops! I prefer the sn770 but they don't do a 4tb. I used the faster sn850x 4tb for the main drive, but I don't need that performance on a game drive :) hope that helps

But I really can t imagine why I should need more than this power, for music and image raw processing it is almost real time processing now, maybe a faster ssd can make something better, I still have the one provided with it.
I think I will keep this computer untill death 🤣
Thank you for this video, first of all, can you recommend this computer and secondly, as far as I understand from the video, in addition, second ssd and ram can be added, is it true?
Hello, thank you for the wonderful video. I expanded the RAM in my G16 7630 from 16 to 32GB (Fury 5600).
The RAM only runs at 4800Mhz, do I have to change the speed in the BIOS so that it runs faster?
Please answer. Thanks
that's really odd.It should be running at 5200mhz like mine! IS your BIOS up to date? There is nothing you have to do in BIOS
BIOS Version 1.9.0
I have the same - bought Kingstone Fury 2x32GB 5600MHz and have only 4800MHz in the bios - I've even updated it to 1.10. I have i9 in my model - I wonder if that matters?

great video, new sub!

Now there are larger nvme and ram , time to max out it again mate

Hey, first of all i wanna say amazing vid.
Secondly off topic, i placed an order for the m18. I wanna know after I receive one, what are the stuff one should test for in a new laptop to check the model i received is functioning properly? Can you give me any recommendations for what to test, and what applications can i use to help me test?
My suggestion is always to check it over visibly then once you have set up the laptop and updated it with windows update and alienware update run: cinebench r23 and 3dmark time spy. Use the over drive mode in command centre and record the results. Then check that against what other users get or if the same spec as me use my review 👍
@@MashITTech thank you so much. 👍🏻
@@MashITTech yes it is exactly the same model as you got. Dell should pay you a premium, your review sold it to me honestly. I also went with your idea of not getting higher ram/ssd and upgrading it myself.
I enjoyed the video, but Your eyebrows + haircut + chair, which makes Your hair look long gives You a special vibe...slight Trevor vibe from GTA V. Otherwise beautiful pronunciation
and everything! P.S.: I love Trevor from GTA V! :D
Haha well I certainly am special! You are not the first to comment on the chair! it may be time to change it 🤣 And the eye brows, well they just started falling out a few years ago, sucks getting old
Very good video.
You lose the warranty doing this?
Also Upgrade to Intel B200 Wifi 7 card- much better wifi compared to the original
Please show how to put the cover back on. I have a 2022 model (7620) and the clips do not want to go
Were you able to fix this? I have the same laptop. Thanks
Hi! Thank you for your all these works! Please advice me, I am going to buy laptop to use it for programming, some light 3D working and basic graphics. Is G16 for me? i7 12700H, 3060, QHD+ version is 999$. Is it worth? Does it have good battery life?
no most intel laptops have subpar battery life! it will be about 4 hours of light use :(
I think ryzen works just 10% more?
Hi, good info! Do you know if this voids the warranty? I just need to add one nvme. Thanks!
Can anyone share the complete configuration of SSD of the Dell G16 7630 Model?
All the details of the SSD installed by DELL for this model
Thank you for this. Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card in this particular laptop model? I have a 3060 in mine.
No, sorry. The cpu and graphics cards are soldered on to the motherboard
The 1TB SSD is not an option, its the only SSD... unless you contact Dell? I got mine, just about set up now. I assume opening it to put storage SSD inside will void the warranty?
Hello, I have an Asus G16 13650hx with 4060 (140W) mem ram is at 4800MHz, can I put a 5600 MHz kit and have it work at 5600 MHz or will it drop to 4800 Mhz?!
I have the same spec, contacted Asus Support and got the following reply - max supported RAM speed is 4800 MHz with max capacity of 32 GB.
So the best solution would be 2x16 4800 MHz, no point to buy faster RAM.
I'll double stress the "don't panic" part... it took a while and a couple of tries.
They do take ages to boot after! Had me worried the first time 😅
Great vid! Any thoughts on the Msi GE78HX?
Can you upgrade the laptop straight out of the box? Even without turning it on at all?
Followed instructions and on windows install it says It can't find any drives what did i miss
Great video, thanks a lot for your explanations! Do you know If a Samsung SSD M2 980 Pro WITH heatsink will fit? Or will the 8.6mm thickness be too thick for this Laptop?
Unfortunately the heatsink is just too think. Just get the 980 without the heatsink if you can
@@MashITTech Thanks for answering. Will do. Really appreciate the work you put into your Channel.
I recently just changed the ram on my g16 to the recommended kingston 64gb ram, yet it’s still running at 4800mhz. Please help.

Would I need to store the drivers on a usb stick if I am leaving in the original SSD, but only changing the RAM and adding another m.2 SSD?
if upgrade the ram only, do i need to do the drivers part? or can i just plug in and go
Hey uh did you buy a ram kit or 2 sticks of same ram?
I'm trying to find a kit but they're expensive and buying two same rams is way cheaper but idk if they will work.
Will they?
Ram pricing is often random! But the good news is, buying 2 sticks is exactly the same as a kit, its just often the kit s cheaper!
@@MashITTech thx I will keep that in mind, As for RN I am running two MICRON MTA4ATF1G64HZ-3G2 8GB they came with the laptop and after 2
years its time I upgraded them so researched a bit and finally found KF432S20IB/16 Kingston FURY 16GB 3200MHz DDR4 CL20 SODIMM Fury Impact, these seems better but the thing is buying a 32GB kit of this is around 12K here and buying two 16GB ones is around 6K (IDK why it's like that) so, now I'm confused as I read somewhere that kits are better and sometimes mixing rams just doesn't work.
oh well lets see if they work or not
when people talk about mixing ram they usually mean different ram sticks/brands so say a crucial 3200mhz and a fury which seems obvious but some people do this 🤣 if you buy 2x single sticks of fury ram you will get exactly the same sticks as if you bought the kit so there really is no reason to worry
@@MashITTech oh i see thx for the help.
Hi Mash,
I have Dell G16 7620 (2022 model).
Can I install two M.2 2280 SSD's as shown in the video?
On dell website says it has only one M.2 2280 slot for SSD.
sorry mate, Dell didn't ever sell the 2022 G16 in the UK so I didn't get to test one. The manual does state 1 m.2 slot so I guess that is probably correct, sorry :(
@@MashITTech thank you!
See I did this to the T And after reassembly it just will not start up. The laptop doesn’t even register that the AC is plugged in. It won’t turn on with just the AC in or the battery only. No lights no nothing. I even replaced the old parts back in it and still nothing. I gave up trying to figure it out myself I’m about positive I’ve fried it somehow
Oh no 😢
Will a Samsung 990 pro fit in this laptop??
Have you faced whea errors? When system boot and beginning of the games, I get whea event 17 errors.
Thanks for this informative video. I have the G16 with 32 GB/4070 configurations, and I'm planning to add a secondary SSD drive: WD Black SN850X 4tb (with a pre-installed heat sink). Could you please confirm whether it will fit or not? Thanks.
It will not fit. The drives with heatsinks on are made for desktop and too fat to fit in a laptop. Sorry
@@MashITTech Thanks a lot for your advice. I'll be using the secondary SSD for gaming, and I'm considering the following bare SSD's (2tb or 4tb): WD SN850X OR Samsung 990Pro OR Crucial T500 OR Crucial T705 gen5. I have a couple questions here; will my laptop support the T705, I mean reaching the claimed speed of ~ 14,000Mb/s? The 2nd Q: would a normal copper plate be enough to cool down the SSD? Thanks.
@@roobeen although the gen 5 drive should work, it is only a gen 4 slot so will max out about 7k r&w. Yes a normal copper plate is usually enough to cool a gen 4 drive down but I havent tested on gen 5
What is the maximum capacity of RAM that can be installed on the computer?
May I use Samsung 980 pro with heatsink by removing built in heatsink
yes if you can get the heatsink off
are we going to get a AMD version of the m16/18?
My Dell G16 has only 1 m.2 slot and right next to it is the NETWORK CARD. there is a similar looking spot on the board but there is no port for the ssd. What model has only 1 slot? Idek.
You must have like the New G16, or some version of ALIENWARE’S G16. which would have been nice to know before blowing Christmas money on an ssd.
what specs is your G16?
I7 12700h
16Gb RAM
512gb Internal ssd
GeForce RTX 3060
Not sure what the main board is.
What I ended up doing is just swapping the 512 for my new 1tb ssd, and just re installing windows.

Just bought the dell g16 laptop and was wondering if i could skip the usb drive step since i haven't even turned it on and just go straight to adding the 4tb ssd. This is my first pc, so im not great with computers?
You need the operating system on the ssd for it to work. It is currently on your existing ssd even if you have never used it. Unfortunately you need to clone it or do a fresh install with a USB stick
@MashITTech Well, I'll save your video, I don't plan on upgrading at the moment, so i don't void my year warranty. Would an external ssd be fine? Would be cool to download the games on an external ssd and leave the internal for other stuff.
I often use externals for my game libraries, works perfectly
Does this computer can really support 64GB of ram + 2 x TB of SSD storage ?????
Additionally, does the "up to 2 x 1TB" on the manufacturers' technical sheets a real technical limit, or can I still put a 2TB SSD (or more) instead of the 1TB? (for a Lenovo Legion and Asus Rog).
Thank you!!
Yes, the ram I linked worked perfectly. And yes you can usually ignore the manufacturers max specs, 2tb easily work in these laptops, you just need to be careful not to buy a double sided 4th drive
@@MashITTech Exactly - I've just removed original 30 mm 1TB drive with Windows and put Samsung 990 PRO 2TB and Samsung Evo 870 2TB and works perfectly... with Kubuntu and LUKS encryption :).

I installed an extra 2tb ssd but now when I turn on my laptop it doesnt display a second drive under my windows file explorer. Is there another step I need to do?

Search for partition manager in windows.
If it shows an unallocated space, create a partition and you are good to go.
tell me if it works or if you need more asistance.
Can i get an advise?
how can solve this?

Hi Dave! I noticed you shifted from using WD Black SN770 to Crucial P3 Plus.
May I know why? I’m trying to buy one for my M17 R5. Thank you 😊
its only because the p3 plus offer a 4tb single sided ssd so its compatible with most laptops! I prefer the sn770 but they don't do a 4tb. I used the faster sn850x 4tb for the main drive, but I don't need that performance on a game drive :) hope that helps
what is max ram can be put inside g16?
Kinda bummed I just found out my g16 only has one ssd slot. My wifi and ssd are right next to each other unlike yours. I think yours might be 7630 vs my 7620 bummer. I don't know if 5600 64g doesn't work with 7620 or I just didn't give it long enough to turn on? Crucials website says it's compatible

Awesome video, just got this model. Bought the recommended drive, will be here tomorrow. My memory is currently running at 4800, given the cap of 5200 you discovered on this model do you feel it is still worth it to upgrade that as well?
