You have real vision when it comes to fashion, and most importantly, you're willing to put time and effort into the things you create. I hope you succeed!!
Thank you Bailey means the world
once again another video reminding me why i need to learn to sew better
only one way to learn
cody hughes same lol
STAATS will be a legendary brand one day I'm calling it now
rayy gun when they come up make sure they shout out “that one UA-cam channel ‘rayy gun’” who called it before anyone else in their acceptance speeches
yes we will be your witnesses
I honestly agree
Couldn't agree more. They're already doing so well!
Damn y’all still wearin clothes 😒😒
you're telling me you didn't make every item in your wardrobe yourself?
* fails to make a simple pant *
GearedTowardGear No. Raf Simons sent me his personal wardrobe
Nando I don't mind seeing u not wearing clothes
rayy gun lmaooo wtf Ray
fernando shutcho corny ass up
Just so that fellow viewers are aware, you do NOT have to pull apart you fave clothes to copy them into a pattern. There are plenty of videos here on youtube showing you how to lay various items out to get accurate tracings of the pieces involved. I've been doing so with all my fave pieces so that I can move from garment buying to making my own items from carefully sourced materials or materials i have woven or spun myself.
Thinking you have to pull apart seams of your fave clothes is certainly enough to scare most people off of this idea, and I just want everyone to know that's not a necessary step at all. :)
How do you spin your own denim?
@@forgotmynamification Denim is a woven fabric. The spinning they speak of is likely the thread/yarn making process that happens before weaving.
@@laurent3415 ah, okay. Thank you.
Can you link me to some good videos? I want to start making my own jeans in the style of JNCO because I don't want to pay $250 for a pair anymore.
@@BlakeBlackstoneI understand ur pain 😪
I LOVE your attitude! This is the fist garment-making video I’ve watched… I think the frustrations you’re going through are a natural part of the process of trying anything new. And I love how you soberly discuss it as such. You don’t seem discouraged! It reminds us to not get frustrated by complications in the discovery phase, and keep pressing through. Thank you!
Do a how to make a hoodie!
Definitely interested in this
@@GearedTowardGear sweet! :)
GearedTowardGear come back then🙄
@@GearedTowardGear Please come back we miss you!

He ain’t show nothing 🤣🤣🤣
In the middle of multiple sewing projects and now you’ve inspired me to take the little time I have to deconstruct and construct a pair of jeans. Yayyyy!!
Something I recently tried was decondstructing an old, large pair of jeans, ones with a lot of wear in them, then I used this raw denim to cut my own pattern. This left my new pair with a lot of unique marks, (beach patterns, pocket marks) you should try it, the used denim is much easier to sew. Love the vid btw.
If you have access to charity thrift shop clearance centers you buy by the pound . Find as large a pair as possible and n a condition that suits your taste. I get 40+waist. If you want 2 repair any defects it is easier to do at the flat stage before u sew up. Your can also decorate like the Japanese at this stage.
I always wanted to make custom jeans for myself but I’m not as confident. Do u think u can do a sort of step by step video? Although this video is great and informative there are lotta steps and I would be on sure of in handling with the sewing machine....
yesss
How did you figure it out?
new avery video makes my day every time. love the stuff you put out man!
Same!
I've always wanted to make my own shirts and jeans as store bought ones are never quite perfect, but I've never got past that stage. Watching this video has taught me so much in a short space of time that I'm actually going to do it. This was an easy sub and I hope you still make more videos as I'm looking forward to watching and learning. Thank you.
I’m a new designer and I loved watching this, your well spoken and not for a second did I fast forward. Thank you for this video I’m inspired to make some for my son!
omg youtube recommanded this video to me a year later, now you've made your first jeans in ground cover
congratulations Avery!
Lovely workmanship! It is always so satisfying to create your own clothes that fit just perfect.
think i found my new favorite channel. You seem like such a genuine dude. Excited to see what all i can learn from you
Thank you for keeping it real at the end, I'm interested in making my own pants so for you to keep the reality of sewing in there helps a lot!
after finishing my fashion course, two mates and I invested in a Juki industrial sewing machine. I can't recommend it enough! Keep it up love from Australia :)
More episodes like this. I enjoy the process of making a good pant and the joy you get out of making it.
Hey, you did that though! People always expect a super clean and perfect DIY, but the reality of the world is that DIY is not easy and I think you captured your journey beautifully and candidly
I love your content. Definitely by far my favorite in terms of personality, organization, and editing.
Thank you Sean means the world
all of this is inspiring to make my own clothes 🤩 love the content Avery !
You got it! Thank you.
damn, definitely enjoyed stumbling upon your work. love the technicality - am tuning in for the long run.
A couple of weeks ago I could no longer find a pair of shorts with cargo pockets. A few minutes ago I thought "I'm going to look up a video on men's pants patterns." I stumbled upon this channel to watch a guy that has talent and over a 108K subs. I'm not alone.
I always enjoy watching and listening to talented people. Great video. I might try to rip apart the seams on an old pair of threadbare shorts that I like and use them as a pattern.
Keep up the amazing work. One of the most driven and creative people out there.
really appreciate it
This channel is really on another level!!! So inspiring! Cheers from Italy
Thank you 🇮🇹
I just came across this video!!! I love it, I love that you showed your process even though you struggled. I can so relate, I’m learning to sew and let me tell you the struggle is real lol I enjoyed watching the process.
I love how this video is shot! I just found this but I hope you have more garment construction videos because I love your style and I would watch them all!
Damn this video is a massive coincidence for me. I was watching a video on how to make jeans from scratch yesterday or the day before, I wanted to see the full process. The dude that made them had quite a fancy setup so I went on Amazon to look for a heavy duty sewing machine and came across that exact Singer which had, to say the least, quite mixed reviews on it. A few days later you cover both in one video, just crazy.
Damn haha well glad the stars aligned on this one. I still think my machine is solid for a domestic machine- had mine for about 4 years. I've seen others work some magic with theirs and still feel a bit like there is a way to fix mine up. With that being said, I think I'll be upgrading shortly.
Its definitely worth the dime. I like to make handbags and this machine impressed me! It will plug through some pretty serious stuff if you do things correctly
Hard to find a channel like this that inspires me to continue my studies in sewing.
Haha awesome man you got this
man this has motivated me to at least try make some sort of garment this year. or just learn more about certain fashion houses. always inspiring me dude thank you x
Means the world. Definitely go out there and make something. Super rewarding.
Respect ✊🏽 bro, your honesty is well received by your viewers. Keep pushing dude!
Bro, you’re a blessing to us all. An inspiration. Thank you, Avery!
Really kind man thank you
Thank you for showing your obstacles and challenges in making your own projects! As well as the benefits of learning and practice :) Not everything comes together smoothly from the start. This is a great video!
your videos inspire me every time thank you
much love man
Omg ily I love how you explain everything! You can tell this is your passion much love from CA
I also wanted to say, there arent enough content on UA-cam on men sewing or sewing for men. And Im glad I stumbled on to your channel! It would also be great if you could mention in your vids where you found to ha e great particular textiles or notions since we know its getting to be a challenge in the fabric district to find a great place to secure both. Do more vids and finish them jeans.
I just found your channel recently because I’m going to attempt to make a pair of trousers. I’m sad to see you don’t have any recent videos posted I love you after one video lol hope you’re going alright and still making!!!
Awesome video man. Inspiring and informative. You have a great attitude too! You seem eager and willing to inform others on the topic. Thank you!
Really wanting to get into creating my own jeans. Your video popped up first. Very informative. Can’t wait to dive in more
Your videos are actually one of my favourites to watch🖤
much love
You should definitely invest in a new machine, if you have the space and cash a used industrial juki is flawless.
Yeah man thank you. Have been eyeing craigslist in the city for a while now, but didn't want to give up on my domestic machine just for the sake of something fancier. It looks like it may be the time.
@@GearedTowardGear Idk.if you have but also check out the older single stitch domestic singers like the 305s, they have a beautiful stitch and are quite beefy being all cast aluminum and iron and quite cheap too.
301*
which Juki would you recommend man or cheapest industrial machine that still works perfectly
Watching this video was very relaxing, I really enjoyed the whole thing. No failure
avery , i've been following you since 2016 , you are a an inspiration to me and other fashion enthusiasts, continue doing what you do and 2019 is STAATS year for sure , much love from argentina
really appreciate your support and interest! 🇦🇷
That’s why art is really priceless… 🤜 keep it up broham
Thanks for making this video, there's surprisingly not that many resources out there describing the process of actually going out and buying textiles to manufacture garments with. This was very insightful.
Thanks for your interest. I feel that completely. This was the first time doing something like this and I was struggling to find resources myself! Take care.
I know your frustrations, it really is a lot of time and work and it takes so much patience. I enjoyed this video, thank you :)
Your mockup fits great. If there were slip ups you couldn't tell. E
Well done. I hope by now you were able to rectify that situation. Love, love it.
Would highly recommend investing in a new sewing machine. I own a juki and it’s such a great and powerful machine when it comes to sewing through layers of thick materials such as denim!
Thanks Melissa. I've been eyeing NYC craigslist for a minute- plenty of 8700s and 5550s.
Hey man your doing great this is the first video I’ve seen from your channel a new machine bro that’s the optimal decision the bulk gets to be heavy I’m machines are design for specific jobs keep going man you have supporters
Wow, that was extremely interesting. Thanks for sharing your energy, creativity, and passion for quality. Good luck and I will definitely check back soon!
Avery never slacks off
You talk like the one kid in a group presentation that always makes me nervous cause we have a time limit 😂. It's making me nervous now lol. But they're always the ones who do the best cause they take more time to think about what they're saying. Great video!
I support all the way. Very helpful I’m definitely looking for a part two
You're like an old soul in a young man's body. Very mature and well spoken for your age. you have great mannerism. Thanks for the video. I don't think i can do what you did...lol i'll have to google more info. for more specific instructions because I'm not as advanced as you are but i did get the majority of info from you so thanks for a great head start! I hope to see more vid's!
Legend for makin this vid
omg thank you king, i seriously love your videos so much
thank you for watching
Avery back with the 🔥 content
Appreciate it my man
I highly appreciate this video. Dude, seriously.
Love it. I just got the same sewing machine. I'm making a jumpsuit out of a bedsheet 🙌
I see that many people are telling you to buy a industrial machine, and Idk if you already did but I have a pair of Jack sewing machines (5 thread overlock n straight stitch), they are fantastic and cheap. I brought them a year ago and I love them! They cost me like 1200 dlls new. I feel like I'm doing an ad but its just a recommendation! Working with an industrial sewing machine makes life so much easier
I know... I tried that machine for a few month and then I’ve decided to go vintage! I’ve never come back since... you should try Singer 401 or a necchi supernova. They’re my absolute favourite ( sturdy all metal inside machines) and they can deal with many layers. Also the singer 201 is amazinggggg.
Great video, really gave me the confidence to do it myself !
i like the fact that you featured the fail into your video, realistic, something i dont see in youtubers videos at all! i hope to see more from your channel... subscribed
You have no idea how much this vid means to me fam. Keep prospering
Thank you man
I respect ya grind!
Always super informative and well edited !
appreciate it!
Great video.. then! I just use one of my shirts or pants that are about worn out and break them down for a pattern. Makes it super easy!
Gained a new subscriber. Thanks for the inspiration to take it back to a basic Singer HD. Going from footwear to clothing. Will be a long learning process. Excited to start the journey with my Wife. Thank you again comrade. .
Would love if you broke down the process of cutting the pattern and cutting the pieces themselves. I deconstruct old jeans from goodwill and sew them together in custom ways and this video is very helpful. Would love to know more about actually making jeans from scrap and making the pattern myself. Much love from Texas
That's awesome man, and thanks for the recommendation. I can definitely break it down further in the future.
Great video that shows the growing pains of creating from scratch
kinda late but i’ve purchased so many singer machines for different purposes and not one of them lasts longer than 3 months of normal use, if you’re looking for a good machine that’ll last a long time i’d recommend the bernina b250
You're making me feel better about the little Janome I'm using. Just did my first jeans repair, sure I broke a needle, but it didn't have any problems getting past those fat denim seams
Great job brother
awesome channel brother. hope all is well. much love and blessings
yess
much love man
It'd be really dope to see you finish off the jeans with a machine that double stitches and chain stitches. The double stitching will definitely reinforce the denim and will fade beautifully over time as you wear the jeans (especially the inseam), and chain stitching the leg opening is a really subtle but gorgeous detail :-)
That's the plan! Flat felled on the inseam for sure. I guess we'll see.
Always looking forward to your videos!
Appreciate it Sander
A couple questions: first off how much do all the materials cost that go into making a pair of jeans? (Fabric zippers rivets ect) second what types of tools do you need? And finally how long does it take you to make a single pair?
Awesome!!! You’re a great person & inspirer to a lot of people 😂✌️
Just circled back around to this, noticed- you never posted a part 2! If you haven't got a new machine by now, I highly recommend sinking a few grand into a used-but-still-young Bernina. Those things are absolute beasts, but still compact and have a variety of functions, like what you're used to from a domestic machine. Unless you're getting into production, I've never found the industrial ones to be worth the space and limits.
Inspiring. Thorough. Thanks!
I love this guy
Fav channel on yt❤️
thanks for such high quality content
appreciate that
Brother I loved this video so much, thanks a bunch for the shared info! ♥
Went to his channel to find part 2 only to see he hasn’t uploaded in a year 🥺 I hope you’re okay! ❤️

Great video. Learned a lot of new things.
love the music in this one
real glad to hear that
@@GearedTowardGear What's the name of the song?
Thank you for the knowledge you gave me I appreciate it stay blessed
As I'm about to pull the trigger on a sewing machine this video couldn't be dropped at a better time, can't wait to get at a point where I can make my own stuff
Haha that's awesome excited for you too
If you plan on working with heavy materials in the future I would reccomend an industrial machine.
Thank you- eyeing NYC craigslist of course
ok first off, good job in your process on making your favorite pair of jeans even if it ending in incomplete, either way its still informal/useful. Been watching a few videos of the process of making denim jeans and trying to see / get an idea - if I could resurrect a pair of mens 1970s bell-bottom jeans. It seems possible if i can collect all the items needed. Anyways keep up the good work
I personally like beige colored jeans, or black jeans. Those Muslin pants look good on you. Good fit and material! Congrats!!
If you havent bought your new machine and still hu ting on Craigs List look for an industrial juki t2010q machine. Great for thick textiles and thinner.
You don’t need to get an industrial machine, there’s some good industrial-home machines that have a good mix of both that can be a lot less expensive then the typical industrial Juki. I have one and I’ve been able to see threw literally any material I can fit under the presser foot haha. Also it was nice watching you in the garment district, I work near there and am always in the area buying fabric and notions so it was cool seeing you go around. Good luck with the pants hope it all works out!
I have a similar singer and break it all the time trying to see denim. But it’s mainly what I deal with aha, I definitely need an upgrade too. This was Ana amazing video, very inspiring. It makes me want to make a pair of chambray, or some sort of lightweight brushed twill pants.. hmm 🤔
Haha yes sounds like we do need the upgrade.
Definitely go for a pair of those and shoot the results my way if you make em!
Will you wash it?
