He succeeded. He managed to prevent the Flood from learning about the location of Earth. He buried everything about Earth and sacrificed every fiber of his being to make sure the Flood doesn’t invade Earth. One of his qualities was that he will keep a secret to the end and he did just that.
@@TheGeoCheese Ah, in that case, he did in fact succeed. He might've lost his life, but the Flood had no knowledge of earth. Up until the third game that is.
@@ColdestInSpace yeah I’m fairly certain the Flood quite literally stumbled upon it after infecting and overwhelming the Covenant ship. Very spooky stuff to be honest. Anyway I would recommend the book Halo Fall of Reach because there’s more to Keyes than you realize. I will also recommend Halo the Flood for a bigger insight for Halo Combat Evolved and you might want to read Halo First Strike because it leads into Halo 2.
A normal human being like yourself would get infected by a single spore. Your body would become disfigured as the flood take control of your body. You'd be motionless, not being able to do anything. That's why you see a lot of the Marines snapping their own necks as they turn (Halo 3 for guidance).
The man fought hard in a test of willpower to keep himself, but lost in the end.

@@TheGeoCheese I do know that Keyes was a man who would do whatever it took to protect earth.
He hid the location of Earth.
May humanity always bloom, prosper and grow and be the harbingers of the best of our nature throughout the galaxy
The Flood, not the Covenant. They didn't know either, but it was the Flood he fought against to keep them from learning about their home world.
"No please don't let me forget" heartbreaking
Felt bad for him, what a terrible fate.
THIS is what people are afraid of?! I was afraid of the Flood but not anymore! I love fighting nasty enemies like the necromorph from Dead Space!
