      Yes, loud noise exposure is the leading cause of tinnitus. It sounds like you might also benefit from Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT), or educational counseling that can help to minimize your triggers like stress and eventually block your perception of tinnitus. We now offer a virtual-only option for treatment where we provide the TRT lessons online and have 7 virtual sessions over 12 months to verify the material is making sense and helping you. Contact us if you’d like to learn more about this option for additional treatment!

      @@alankirkby465 I believe you can "will" the tinnitus away with the correct mindset when you do not have significant underlying damage to your inner ear(s). It sounds similar to what we teach patients to do with prescriptive sound therapy and educational counseling called habituation. Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) is about helping patients habituate to the reactions of tinnitus and then teaching them to habituate to the perception of it altogether. You are fortunate that you were able to do this on your own; however, many patients need help to get there. Check out our website www.soundrelief.com for more information regarding TRT if you are interested!

    My doctor told me you’ll have to live with it, nothing I can do except give you a hearing aid type device that will make a noise to mask it. He wasn’t interested to be fair. Then again it isn’t his bloody eat that’s whistling and hissing 24/7.

      Unfortunately, we hear that from a lot of people. It's not necessarily that doctors don't care, but they haven't kept up with the latest advancements in tinnitus research. Hopefully, you understand that there is help for people with tinnitus.

    Great review and spot on.
    I’ve dealt with chronic bothersome T for almost 9 yrs and never heard of OAE testing.
    Thanks Dr. Julie ….wish I lived in CO.
    Perhaps on the next ski trip I can make an appt. for that evaluation.
    Keep up the great work and focus on T.
    Regards,
    John

    I have Tinnitus in both ears. I did a hearing test and I have normal hearing. Tinnitus is not always due to loud noise exposure. I do suffer with depression. I also have a arthritic neck with can also cause Tinnitus. I was given a white noise generated to put in my ear, to get rest bite from the noises.

    • @Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing
      @Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing  Рік тому

      You are correct - tinnitus is not always due to loud noise exposure, although it is the top cause of it. Tinnitus sound generators are also helpful in distracting the brain away from tinnitus. We counsel our patients to make sure they are not masking (covering up) their tinnitus completely with white noise for a few reasons: masking noise can be annoying and worse than the tinnitus, masking covers up the problem which is a "band-aid" approach to treating it, and typically masking levels have to be continuously increased to be effective over time, resulting in loss of effectiveness eventually. Instead, we use Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) to treat tinnitus, which uses prescriptive sound therapy and directive counseling over 12-24 months to rewire the brain. We now have new telehealth options incorporating TRT for patients with normal hearing like you, using an online learning platform, the Sound Relief Learning Center. Can earplug use cause tinnitus?

    • @SoundReliefLearningCenterINT
      @SoundReliefLearningCenterINT Рік тому +1

      Ear plugs don't cause tinnitus; however, wearing them may block out enough sound and allow you to hear ringing. Everyday sounds can distract the brain from tinnitus. When everyday sounds are enough, you may need to seek help.

    My tinnitus comes wen I take more steroid based inhalers, if I take prednisolone it’s like someone turned the volume right up, if I’m well and don’t need to take my inhaler as much it goes away.

    • @Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing
      @Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing  Рік тому +1

      Yes, that's true - steroids can increase tinnitus perception, and glucocorticosteroids can cause tinnitus to appear while taking them. This is thought to be caused by inflammatory responses that are likely to be involved with tinnitus. With more research funded by organizations like the American Tinnitus Association, we hope to understand this better in the near future!

    I had an acoustic neuroma and believe me there is no way any of this treatment can cure my tinnitus. You just have to learn to live with it.

    • @Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing

      You are correct that there is no cure for tinnitus, especially as it relates to an acoustic neuroma; however, we do help patients find tinnitus relief with similar symptoms through Tinnitus Retraining Therapy and possibly a Bi-CROS system. We would be happy to explain this approach to you in more detail via a telehealth consultation!

    Have you heard of the latest and greatest Cortexi? Does it work or not? What I do know is someone’s getting rich over our suffering. The again what’s the difference with them and the hearing device and sound therapy’s being marketed? Let’s look at a good side to all this, at least we tinnitus sufferer’s can say we are putting food down on someone’s table along with providing a better life style. Isn’t that refreshing…….NOT!

    • @Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing
      @Sound_Relief_Tinnitus_Hearing  Рік тому +1

      Cortexi is nothing more than another supplement touted as helping tinnitus. The benefits are questionable at best.
      Depending on the severity of tinnitus, we have found that a combination of tinnitus retraining therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy works best.
      If hearing loss is present, it must be addressed as a component of tinnitus treatment. With extensive damage and more severe hearing loss, people need technology to effectively treat their degree of hearing loss and distortion to the auditory system. Why? Tinnitus is most often the result of sensory deprivation caused by changes to the auditory pathways, resulting in brain hyperactivity. To adequately address these alterations in the brain and the resulting hyperactivity, we must address the hearing loss and/or hearing changes.
      We understand your frustration and skepticism with products like Cortexi. They prey on those suffering and offer little or nothing in return. There are, however, audiologists that have committed their education and career to helping people overcome tinnitus. The fact that they are paid to help people is morally and ethically acceptable.
