This is by no means a comprehensive tutorial, this is just the easiest/fastest way I have found to overclock CPUs to maximize my money.

so does the game not recognize custom cooling cpu's? I've found i get better overclocks on air cooled cpu's hitting 90*, than cpu's around 50* water cooled.
It does, but there is a silicon lottery in the career mode of the game (which is what I was in). So the CPU I was using in this video was probably not a "top binned" CPU. All CPUs (and GPUs) in Free Build are the best of the best.

2.05 on the ryzen 9 5950x…. The pc will start. But after running OCCT the pc blue screens. I don’t know what to do. I didn’t change the base clock or even the ratio. I just left them stock. Should I bring these up to level out the over all voltage?

How much faster can a pc be after an overclock like this? Is this ok for a working pc (video editing in premiere pro)
That I don't know ... Since this is a game, channels like Gamers Nexus or JayzTwoCents would have videos more tailored to answering that question, based on real world computers. As for video editing, which I do a lot of, I would recommend using your GPU for rendering and such. When it comes to video editing the GPU is faster/more powerful than the CPU. Hope this helps.
Good video! But how do I fix thermal throttling my customers keep complaining and on OCCT it also shows it throttling. However I can’t find a fix for this as I can change the cpu cooler the game wont let me
If you can't change the cooler, that makes things pretty hard. Make sure there is thermal paste applied, and if its a crappy cooler, you may need to remove the overclock completely to get it to stop thermal throttling.
I've got lucky with an i9-6700k cpu in the game, OC'ed to 5GHz straight away . Thing is that Airflow is completely stupid in this game, it seems that no matter the setup, you're always getting 80+ temps, whenever you OC , even if it's from 4600mhz to 4700mhz.
Say you got an 8core at 3600ghz, and like 8 100airflow fans all around it. It sits at 35C , 50C in stress test. OC to 4ghz, it's going to sit in 80-90C, no matter what air/water cooler setup you try with the best parts available. Realistically, no one with a basic understanding of computer parts is going to be happy gaming with his CPU above 75C, and also realistically, a 5ghz OC is achievable with below 80C temps already, without too much struggle. Whomever designed the cooling variables in this game should be fired.
I'm with you on that, certain things in the game don't scale properly ... hopefully they are working on these problems. I've had similar problems when trying to overclock most of the Threadripper CPUs (even when using a custom loop with multiple radiators), at stock speeds they are cool as can be but overclock them by 100 MHz and they run so hot they throttle or just plain blue screen.
@@BigJake901 I did a custom loop with 2 of the biggest radiators I could fit and copper pipes on a 3990x . I ran like rows of pipes, fitted one mile of pipes all around the case, the result was a surprinsing

So if cooling is good and there is enough power why does it blue screen in first 5 seconds
3D mark starts rapidly dropping fps a few seconds in if i do any more than a stock clock on a and ryzen threadripper 2990WX, any clue what’s happening?
It does that when the CPU is throttling. You will either need to back off the overclock or install better cooling or possibly both. Just from personal experience, the 2990WX needs water cooling with multiple radiators to hold any kind of overclock.

I wonder if its possible to overclock by 300Mhz
Nned some advice... Only a level 5 in the career mode and got a job to hit a 4799 3DMark but struggling to get anything past 2200.
Really could use some tips/help. Thanks
If you are only at level 5, you may not have access to the parts you need in order to get the 3DMark score required. If it is a job with an expiration date, then you may have to reject the job ... some jobs in the game are actually meant to be rejected. However, if it is a job with out an expiration date, then you can just store the PC until you unlock the parts necessary to get the required 3DMark score.

@@BigJake901 Thanks, luckily I done a few jobs and it took me to lvl 6 and got the program for the OC. Managed to do what I needed and got the exact 3DMark for the perfection trophy 😁
My cpu went to 103 Celsius (what the heck is that in Fahrenheit?) and I blue screened it immediately lol

I have a pea-sized brain so I still don't understand how to overclock even after watching the video twice, this game was so much fun until the overclocking customers started coming now I'm stuck and can't progress anymore 😪
I understand. Overclocking is a little difficult ... The easiest way I can explain it is, you need to make small adjustments and then test. Rinse and repeat. For most CPUs I start with 1.65 volts and then increase the core ratio by 1. Save, restart, and then run OCCT. If it passes, boot back into the BIOS and raise the core ratio by 1 again. Save, restart, and then run OCCT again. Continue doing this until you crash. When you crash, go back into the BIOS and lower the core ratio by 1. Your overclock should now be pretty stable. Boot back into the OS and run OCCT. If it passes without crashing, then you are good. Hope this helps.

RAM can go to 1.8V without any concern.
I'm trying to overclock ryzen 1700x with GA-AB350-Gaming 3 to atleast 4025mhz. It has Arctic Freezer 33 Esports edition and it always throttles, is there anything I'm doing wrong?
Turn your voltage down
I thermal throttle at 1.5 with artic coolers so I generally do 1.45

It’s usually labeled as “del” on most keyboards. Alternatively you can use “F2”.
Does increasing RAM help w CPU over lock? I have a mission can’t swap anything but I have $200 budget. I’m 10 point short of 3975 goal. Help

I still can't get it after 5 seconds into the stress test I get a blue screen
You either have overclocked the CPU too far or your thermal solution isn't up to the task of keeping the CPU cool and stable. Recommend try lowering the OC or try a different cooling solution.

Sort of ... you can use some of what is learned in the game to OC a real CPU but it's not exactly the same nor quite as easy.

You are probably not using a CPU that supports overclocking. If you are using Intel, you need a CPU ending with a K.

The million dollar achievement will take a while lol ... I don’t have it yet. When they update the game they raise the level cap. With version 1.9 released the level cap is now 32.

If you are going for the easy overclock that I am showing in the video, there is no need to adjust the base clock. However, if you are going for a max overclock (which I don't really go into in the video) then you will very likely need to adjust the base clock.

I keep having blue screen when I overclock 1500x to 3850mhz
It could be due to lack of cooling or silicon lottery (you may need to try multiple CPUs to get one that overclocks well). First gen Ryzens weren't great overclockers in the first place, I know 150 MHz over the max boost clock doesn't sound like much of an overclock but it is for a first gen. If you have them unlocked, you could try a Ryzen 5 3600 in place of the 1500x. The 3600 is $10 more, has 2 more cores, has the same 65 w TDP, and is already clocked at 4200 MHz. Hope this helps 🙂

Then it’s either lack of cooling, too high of a voltage setting, or silicon lottery. If it was me I’d get another 1500x and see if it overclocks better.

Okay I just tried it with the same motherboard and processor. I used an Arctic freezer 33 esports edition and was able to overclock to 3850 MHz no problem. Make sure you have a PSU that is at least 400 watts as it pulls well over 300 watts when overclocked.

I just started the game... but wondering.. what is the actual benefit of overclocking?
I mean getting +100MHz doesn't seem worth it.. why not just buy a better CPU?
or do you get missions that a client wants a certain benchmark, but his budget won't cut it, so you need to overclock...?
But what about real life? why "risk" or damage the component over time.. for a few extra MHz?
This is probably going to be a long answer lol.
In the game, there are a few reasons to overclock either the CPU, or GPU, or both. The first reason would be because you are playing the career mode and the customer requests it.
The next reason would be because you want to make more money on PCBay, in the game. As you rank up in career mode you will eventually be able to unlock PCBay. PCBay is a place to sell used parts and auction fully built PCs. Also, as you continue to play, you will amass lots of used parts. You can either sell off the parts one by one or you can build PCs out of those used parts and sell them on PCBay. Overclocking the CPU and GPU generally gets you more money for the PCs on PCBay.
The final reason is, it's just plain fun. It's fun to see how far you can push a component before it breaks and to try and push for high 3DMark scores.
"Why not just buy a better CPU?" Often in the game as in real life, sometimes the budget doesn't allow for a better CPU. In that case overclocking can gain you a few FPS "for free" by overclocking.
"But what about real life? why "risk" or damage the component over time.. for a few extra MHz?" As I stated previously, sometimes the budget doesn't allow for a more expensive/better CPU and overclocking can often gain you more performance out of a lower cost CPU. Then on the other end of that, some people want the most out of their high-end CPU. For these people, they usually upgrade every couple of years so degradation over time is not an issue for them because they are going to have new hardware before their current hardware shows issues. Overclocking can also help older hardware stay relevant longer. Overclocking your CPU is relatively safe as CPUs and motherboards have protection built into them to help keep you from pushing the overclock/voltage too far (unless you turn those protections off, but that's a whole different story). Honestly, degradation over time isn't a huge issue either. IRL I have an i7-4790K that I bought at the end of 2014 (I used it until I purchased my i9-9900K this year and it's now in my wife's gaming PC), it has been overclocked to 4.8 GHz since the day I bought it, and is not showing any signs of degradation from being overclocked for over 5 years.
