    Extreme Philly Fishing, P.O. BOX 7019, Philadelphia, PA, 19149
    September 17th, 2016 -- Day 2 of my adventure in New York with Tim Galati and Mike Caruso. In the morning, Tim took us to a local Reservoir for some JUMBO Panfishing!
    Boys...it was a BLAST. We caught fish after fish, after fish, after fish! The average fish of the day was a whooping 8 incher whereas the average for Bluegill/Pumpkinseed in Philly/South Jersey is a mere 4 incher. Biggest sunfish of the day was a 10 incher, in the range of 3/4lb-1lb!
    We practiced selective harvest -- we took 50 of them home between the three of us, releasing anything bigger than 9.5 inches. Lots of other fish were released as well! Recall, fellas: when taking fish home, harvest selectively!
    Gear used in this video:
    Rod: (1) Daiwa Spinmatic 5'6", ultra-light; and (2) St. Croix Avid Pearl 6'6", medium-light.
    Reel: (1) Shimano Sedona 500 FD, and (2) Daiwa Samurai 1000
    Line: (1) 4lbs Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon, and (2) 6lbs Co-Polymer
    Bait/lures: (1) 1" Gulp! Alive Minnow; (2) Superworms; (3) nightcrawlers; (4) Johnson Min-O-Spin, 1/8 oz.; and (5) Z-Man Chatterbait Original, white/chartreuse.

    Anyone else binging all the old videos from everyone? (Philly, 1 Rod, Jon B just the whole crew) such nostalgia!!! They opened doors for hundred of thousands fisherman young and old to just get out there and fish wherever and however

      I definitely need to be more careful with my releases in the future, PancakeHut. Haha. Though, just to point it out -- fish do not get injured from a throw/drop like that! You can read more about it here: extremephillyfishing.blogspot.com/2015/10/do-fishes-get-hurt-when-they-are-thrown.html Tight lines and thanks for watching!

    Selective Harvest. This is a good message. I rarely keep fish. Catch. Release. Repeat. is what I practice 99% of the time. As my friend said in one video though, "Conservationists have to eat too" Great video! That is a DREAM spot!!

    • @extremephillyfishing
      @extremephillyfishing  7 років тому +1

      Glad that you enjoyed it, Fishing Pleasures. I am the same as you -- I release most of what I catch. I would say that my ratio is 95% CPR annually. The other 5% is usually either food or bait. But when harvesting, always gotta select what you take. :) Tight lines and thanks for watching!

    • @FishingPleasures
      @FishingPleasures 7 років тому +1

      As always! Ever since I tried Smallmouth Bass, fried and breaded (my own recipe) I have been leaning toward maybe keeping a few more before the year is out. They tasted really good. I tend to let the biggest fish go of any species, because they are the best breeders. CPR is wonderful, and I follow your instagram as well and enjoy the photos you upload there! Looking forward to more videos, best of luck out there man!

    Catching big panfish is tons of fun. We hope to get back to catching them tomorrow. We've been having boat problems (we are fortunate to have a boat, but it is 20 years old, so it takes some work to keep it going). As for eating, we mostly harvest over-populated fish...but I have a hard time throwing back any legal crappie...because they are TASTY!

    This is New York fishing my friend . If the pan fish are that big imagine how big The Muskie and pike and lake trout get . If you up to North central New York or Oswego . It's by Lake Ontario where they have Northern Snakehead sturgeon and huge bowfin . Not to mention in the fall large salmon swim from the ocean into the lake and up the rivers coming off of it to spawn .

    Hi Leo. Hi Tim. I began watching Tim's videos a few years ago. I wish he would share with only me where he fishes sometimes. Leo, I have only started following you but I love your videos. Although you sound a little like Dracula. (just joking sir.) I'm glad you guys hooked up. If you get over to Buffalo, look up Buffalo Perch Killer. He's kind of new at video filming. but he knows some good spots to fish and he's a super nice guy. Hey Tim. I think I recognize the panfish spot from the first time I saw you. You were so polite.

    Tim if you want to catch really big sunfish you need to get a 3wt. fly rod and go to the Kingfisher Society in Georgia. The bluegill there get to be over 3lbs! It is managed by a customer of mine, Bob Lusk who owns Pond Boss magazine. I went with Bob to do a fish survey on one of his clients creeks and we recorded 1 bluegill that was 2lbs. 15 oz. after only 2 years of management!

    Love your videos. You really ought to try keeping Pumpkinseeds in an aquarium. Oddly keeping sunfishes seems more popular in Europe than it does in North America where they are native. This of course has led to lots of introduced populations of non-native sunfishes (particularly Pumpkinseeds) in Europe. Pumpkinseeds tend to be quite agressive in the aquarium and it's best to keep a single male/female pair. You'll need a 55 gallon tank at least although, unlike some other species of sunfishes, they're not too fussy about water conditions. They do need to have some live food but you can wean them on to the drtied pellets used for cichlid species. They are active endearing characters in the aquarium and, if you're lucky and have a suitable pair, they may try to breed. Their breeding and nesting is fascinating to watch. Keep them in a well planted tank and they'll provide you hours of amusement.
    Michaela x

    on Montello lake in Montello Wisconsin before they drained the lake you could go there and catch your limit of big bluegills in like 2 hours and that lake was perfect for bass and northerns too

      I have no clue, Hong J! I slept through the ride and when we were there, I didn't have internet access. I asked Tim about the name of the Reservoir, and it apparently doesn't have a proper name. All I know is that the place is up there in NY. Haha. Tight lines and thanks for watching!

      Ah ok than its a side water hole is what we call it it's not a part of the major reservoirs but also they can hold big sun fish since not many people fish them.

      @@springmorrow2656 , This is a 3 yr. old video but I think Leo said it is a small reservoir not too far up-state because if really far up-state the trees would be changing colors already : ) Because he was a guest he didn't let the cat of of the bag. Sorry I couldn't nail it down for you there are hundreds if not thousands of waters up-state...........Be Well S.M.

    i wanna catch trout but i can never get the chance so i stick to walleye and catfish and that brings a question What is the best setup to use when catfishing in a river???

    • @extremephillyfishing
      @extremephillyfishing  7 років тому +1

      It really depends on what type of Catfish you are looking to catch, Daniel Maloney. Stinky and insect baits will often catch you small Catfish -- either Bullhead (_Ameiurus spp._), Flathead (_Pylodictis olivaris_), Blue Catfish (_Ictalurus furcatus_), or Channel (_Ictalurus puntatus_). For bigger ones, I would suggest cut bait or whole live fish. Tight lines and thanks for watching!

    Funny thing, when I was fourteen in the 80's, I burned a cream worm and several days later used the curled, partly molten plastic as a last resort because I had no other bait. Suddenly I was hooking up with monster Bream and Bluegill. I took home a stringer full due to that mutilated, charred cream worm. I fed two families that night. I have never tried it again, thinking that crazy looking worm was a fluke, hardly a chance it would work again. So, I have decided to try it again soon. Perhaps some of you have a similar story or will try something crazy.

      Hitsquad 510 I am surprised that anything would go near it with WD on it. Especially catfish. Best to use chicken liver in a piece of panty hose. I do that and catch many catfish. I saw a video of a Mexican using all kinds of bait, and WD40 was on the list to saturate a bait, it failed for him. And he was supposed to be a big time cat man. Not that you didn't have that lucky strike, but is sounds crazy.

If you get a chance check out my article in the IN FISHERMAN magazine 2018 Panfish Guide...FINDING GREAT PANFISH WATERS...or check out my channel that features a few 12 inch plus bluegills and sunfish. I enjoy your enthusiasm and knowledge, not many people would catch the ID on that pumpkinseed X bluegill hybrid...pumpkingill! If you are ever in the Mason Dixon, south central PA area look me up and I'd be glad to put you on any number of species. Tight Lines!
