I WILL NEVER WORK FOR MINIMUM WAGE! Why should I spend 15 to 30k on a tool (car) to work for minimum wage? Drivers should get at least $35. an hour, plus mileage.

First, you shouldn't spend more than $5-7k for a car for rideshare. Second, fares should reflect varied cost of living prices depending on the area. If drivers are guaranteed $35/hour, the market will be swamped and you won't get many rides. Use your brain.

Several ways to fix trip radar: 1) ability to turn off/opt out 2) only on when not driving 3) Copy Lyft’s trip radar 4) ability to turn off the sound notifications 5) limit the number of trip notifications - in busy times I get like 10/minute. You cannot even turn off accepting rides 7) best option get rid of this POS.

  • @banellie

We already need a cap on drivers across the vast majority of markets, so Harry is right that we would need to cap the number of drivers if pay was increased. (Cities always capped the # of taxis too due to oversaturation because of low barriers to entry.)

yes. i think drivers that log in 10 hours or more, and been active over 4 years should be grandfathered in, and those that do under 10 hours a week average should be on a wait list like they do with door dash. or something along those lines.

    Trip Radar Problems:
    (1) Uber uses it to give you (radar) pings that are "outside your preferences."
    - If I have deliveries off, I don't want deliveries.
    - If I have X off, I don't want X pings.
    - If I have a destination set, I don't want pings going the other way.
    (2) Uber subsequently directly pings you with trips you explicitly declined in radar.
    - If I declined it in trip rader, I don't want it.

    Minute 31:33
Harry, repositioning is lowest on my list for driving away after a ride. If you drop off in a sketchy area, stopping makes you a target for robbery/carjacking, if you are in an affluent area and you just stop and wait around you'll be dealing with the cops and that can be bad as well. Unless you drop off near a public parking lot, stopping is a no-go strategy.

  • @MJSmithGroup

I'd be totally ok with "independent contractor" status for gig-app workers being enshrined in the law. But only if it very clearly defines all the requirements with zero wiggle room for the gig-companies to play games.
    At a minimum:
    (1) Gig workers must be able to set their own pay rates. $/mile, $/min for ride time, $/min for wait time, minimum fare, cancel fee, deadhead return surcharge if trip is over X miles, etc. Gig-app workers must be able to update/change their rates at anytime.
    (2) Trip offers must fully and clearly disclose the trip details. Pickup, dropoff, estimated time/miles/pay, etc.
    (3) Gig-workers must get a minimum of 60 seconds to decide.
    (4) Full financial disclosure to everyone involved in every transaction. Driver, rider/customer, restaurant, etc. Everyone involved gets a full disclosure accounting for every penny of the transaction.

Trip radar has to go. So unsafe, not useful, and predatory on new drivers who don't understand the business. But the safety factor is number one for drivers. Uber doesn't care about that because any accidents that happen during these onslaughts of trip radars are not covered under Uber's insurance policy. So they don't care if it's dangerous for the driver because they are not on the hook. Sad story.

@@irfanhusein1445 No this is not a real independent contractor/broker relationship. A real independent contractor tells a broker what their fee is and at least minimum negotiate on pay for every ride for example. Uber/Lyft is literally setting the tone just like we were employees like a employer employee business model. Businesses like McDonald's don't go to their meat supplier and say I'm only going to pay you this much money for this much beef take it or leave it. That's not the real world. There's negotiation with anything or the beef supplier charges McDonald's the same as they charge everybody else. McDonald's does not control their pricing. The same thing here. These companies are controlling both sides of the market. They control driver pay indirectly with this take it or leave it mentality that is so low that it doesn't even cover true profit while controlling their own profit margin because they're controlling the final price that the customer pays. These customers are supposed to be our customers! They write an hour car with our operating cost! Also these companies are they're lying about commercial car insurance overcharging everybody and they're lying about their take rate. These companies are scum! I've been professional in this industry before these companies and I know what this industry is worth. We all should be making middle class wage not poverty! when things were good for me before these companies unlawfully monopolize the industry because of them breaking all these laws I used to make between $50 an hour on the low end and $150 an hour on the high end. That's what we should all be making in 2024. When I was making that money that was 10 years ago. These companies are utterly disgusting! All the corporate greed, stealing tips. The money they stole for me that I just got back recently and everything else in between! Also California had already seen what they're doing and already told them you have to make everybody employees because they're not treating us like true independent contractors. These companies ran a campaign called prop 22 and lied to everybody about what it was making it sound so amazing.. Gold on shit but at the end of the day it was still shit. Basically prop 22 was passed under false pretenses and it stripped us all of our independent contractor rights and allowed these companies to break the law legally. It is now back at the Senate to be re-reviewed and hopefully be repealed as a constitutional law because it is unconstitutional law that tries to supersede California law that protects independent contractors.

What I hate the most is when Im about to complete a ride and im looking to see where im dropping them off or making a turn and then a trip radar comes in and blocks my screen where I cant see the turn. Its almost strategic where im almost forced to click it so it goes away. Trip radar pricing is disgusting. Government incvolvment should be for keep drivers protected to fairness. U/L are trying their best to be more greedy at the cost of the driver. This is eventually going to change someday when they wake up. They can make more consistent money and less litigation if they stop the tricks and make a standard across the board. If its standard more drivers are accepting more if not every ride which increases the frequency. They cant possibly have frequency data because they arent standarizing it across the board. In order to get real numbers and keep government way out of the situation is be more like the taxi company standarize it across the board at least for 3 months and then see the profits and revenue. Watch it increase and watch the amount of litigation decrease as well. It will change the dynamic of the company. It will change the relationship between driver and the platform. There is a magic formula but they are both avoiding it because of short term major revenue boosts, with tricks and tactics. Harry works on a model that everyones life is perfect and nothing should be frustrating. Harry needs to put himself in a struggling situation and then experience the frustration of trip radar. What trip radar is doing is collecting data of the amount of drivers accepting crappy trips. The data that concludes that there is a desperate demographic then they know how to change the prices. This is a quicker way to get results, very smart on both U/L. In the long run not smart. Because the 1st company that makes the switch will win the first company to really make a power play to drivers will knock out the competition. Its only a matter of time who will standardize price and pull drivers to that platform. I personally moved to lyft the moment Uber pulled the Beyonce scam with surges before that I never drove for Lyft sonI was generally only making Uber money but now i do both and that was the cause of Ubers tactics. Harry doesnt understand he is not in the majority mind set.

Hate trip radar. Extra time to think of accepting a ride will definitely help! Try getting a request radar or not while you're driving fast, dealing with traffic or taking care of your passenger. You give me more information, then give me more time to decide. Instead, you pile radar, regular, exclusive requests and pressure me into deciding NOW! It's bad. Don't stack them. Don't send them one on top of another. Don't send them while I'm driving fast.

There are some hot spots where you will be competing with multiple drivers that might be parking, so I prefer to be on the move to get a mix of residents and visitors. In SF Trip Radar is still the exception to the rule.

Definitely worth watching. #1-I'm an optimist and I don't think they will leave Minneapolis. However, I agreed with what Harry said on this issue. I have to give it a draw though #2. Rider verification: if it has to be gradual or it takes longer, you have to do it. I have to go with Sergio on this. #3 Trip Radar: I've found some decent rides on trip radar, but I don't like how it's done. I accept all regular rides, but it's different with Trip Radar for a few reasons. One of them is I can accept it and not get it. If you're looking for rides that are $35-$40 an hour, you're going to think that something at $25 an hour is garbage. It's garbage maybe to you, but that doesn't make it garbage to everyone. It is subjective. I'll go with Sergio on this and he wins 2-0, but I love hearing Harry on these topics because he has a very different perspective that is not just from a driver's viewpoint. (I do too) Thanks.

trip radar isnt all "where trips go to die" because ive seen some trips on there that def would not be something anyone would decline. sometimes its preloaded as the passenger is submitting information on their end and it predispatches it out, sometimes it pops up then sends it as a regular ride right after.

  • @damianweiss217
    @damianweiss217 Місяць тому

For trip radar, it’s great if you do it Harry style, pay deadhead miles at same rate to pickup passenger for all cars in the area. Then via Harry style, let the customer decide.
Riders can Choose to pay the extra Deadhead miles or wait till some driver happens to cruise by their area.
Obviously trip radar occurs because the rider can’t get a driver to accept their ride for whatever reason.
This is basic economic philosophy and principles.

ID is important especially when it comes to Uber deliveries with specifically medical Drugs and Alcohol. Instead of scanning ID upon delivery Uber has this info in the system. Once a delivery is done a drivers just gets the customer to sign electronically on the device. I think it saves time for the driver especially now that Uber is offering Pennie’s to drivers.

Harry makes many good points. I like the idea of an option to the rider to upload an ID. It’s simple. If the best drivers get picky and don’t pick up the unverified riders, then the market will work itself.

As far as that number it needs to also be congruent with the market. Some markets can and should handle paying more and as opposed to others. There needs to be a floor that makes sense across the board for sure. Also there should be a cap on the amount of drivers to ensure balance.

btw the my market is $0.90/KM Uberx. $0.16/min wait time with wait time capped at 5 min. Price of gas $1.60/Liter . Last time I drove I was active for only about 1/2 of my online time driving about 10 minutes to every pick and making about $7-8 per trip without a tip. From the time I drop off one customer till my next ride request can be 20 min -3 hours depending on the day obviously yes its a smaller market but with no caps on the number of drivers online its a lose lose game for every driver in my market.

There are many moving parts here. You need to professionalize the driver profession and require licensing and certification since you are transporting individuals and you should be prepared to do. Gig economy has become the amateur, part-time economy and Uber/Lyft love it because you have unlimited supply of uncertified drivers. The bar should be low to entry but there should be a low bar. In addition, you need to assess how much income premium should a driver earn. For example, you own the vehicle and that vehicle has a government mileage reduction on of $0.67… what’s the fair upcharge here? Should driver make 6-figures driving 40-hours a week? That’s the issue here… drivers were used to making a crazy amount of money a few years ago and driving as a profession shouldn’t be a six-figure job but most don’t want any cap and want minimums and want endless revenue. The reason why ridesharing is so popular it’s because it’s affordable compared to taxi service. Here you need to start with rider cost and back into fair shares for Uber/Lyft for providing the marketplace and the driver for delivering the services. This needs to be studied.

It all boils down to pay - drivers wouldn't care about all of the ride details (length, destination, rating, etc) if we were already confident that we were being well compensated! I would further suggest that Uber allow riders the option to pre-tip and show it in the fare, to increase both the rate and speed of acceptance of trips by drivers.

I am for contractor option. They say they are IT companies, let them be. Drivers set price. And we had that experience, for short time before prop 22. Drivers responsible for insurance. Just pay us what we deserve. DRIVER ARE NOT MINIMUM VAGE JOB!!! As truck drivers are not… BTW, truckers, being contractors, are unionized. Why can’t we? We are getting more organized, but the employee option is a dangerous path. Also, I am sure we need to start thinking about self driving cars. Musk said robotaxi will be available till end of this year. Driver’s should NOT be left behind…

Well end of employment there, and there is something no one else talks about.....I know many people who totally depend on these ride share services to get to work. Metro for many has become an unsafe method for people, due homeless drug abuse, theft, sleeping and other problems that Metro has been unable to solve. Uber and Lyft are leaving their customers out in the cold. And a problem..... How's do I get to work?

BOTTOM LINE: Drivers were happy going out and making descent money. That has changed. Factors are lower rates (PAX likely pays more than before), Dead time/miles (U can make $50/HR but when all figure in you could be well below MIN wage). If we don't do low rate jobs then the price will go up!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't select low rate jobs!!! Example: $5 taking roughly 15 minutes means you're at $20/HR or roughly $12/HR after cost to operate your car and dead/miles/time!
