I’m 42 and have been in successful bands , and my influences are SRV, DAvid Gilmour and Eddie Van Halen! And quite frankly you’re the best teacher for my fit , thanks for showing me new ways to approach the guitar in a fun and practical way 😁👍🏻 please keep them coming! Cheers.
Absolutely love your videos Cameron! Was very interesting to hear how you opened up your playing. You're a monster player and I find it so inspiring watching your videos! Cheers for uploading!
I'm older also Been playing most my life , would give anything to shred that effortlessly , love your vids hopefully they will start to help me pick up some speed
It's awesome that you directly responded to my question! Really appreciate it. I look forward to messing with that scale and checking out the playlist. Nice one Cam.
dude. i had a dream about your Pink guitar. your videos have helped inspire me and spend the time to do the repetive alternate exercises to get myself a little faster and for some reason i dreamed about your pink guitar and then on my main page of youtube you popped up with a pink guitar but in my dream it was a pink PRS , thanks for the videos my good man
Lol .. thats a killer looking guitar. Thanks for the lesson 👍 I'm not a guitar player, but use lessons and techniques like yours for expanding my keyboard soloing techniques 🎹👍
What a treasure channel! Really really good stuff. I kept watching one after another and yet missing out putting a subscript :-D sorry for that. Very talented both as a player and as a teacher.
Cameron Cooper could you tell us what effects you're running through? That tone and reverb/chorus(?) is amazing! UA-cam is basically my guitar teacher! You're a great player, but also a fantastic teacher-you truly have a knack for this.
The key word you use, well it's key to me. Applied! There are two kinds of guitar players. Book player and heart player. You have managed to take what you have learned and instead of just playing what you have learned you apply what you have learned to your style and that is priceless and in my opinion the absolute difference in you playing something and the dozens of other shredders, (who quite frankly don't stand out) You stand out! Like I have said before, Cameron you have a style that is a cut above and I have given a name to it. "Fingers & Heart" Love the videos man. I love hearing you play. I think I could listen to you non-stop probably. ~I will have A Charvel San Dimas Slime Green one of these days~ Keep rockin ~Perfect7
Perfect Number 7 Easily one of the best comments I have ever had the good fortune of reading. I really appreciate knowing how much you enjoy my style and how I have applied what I pick up from loads of musicians - not just guitar players. I hope you get that slime green Charvel
I have been getting a lot out of your videos ! You have inspired me to work harder to get better !! I hope that you & Robert Baker will get together & do a shred collaboration !! I know it would be Epic !! Thanks
Hi Cam, Could you do a screen shot of THR10x editor for the Van Live live sound? It's sounds amazing. I wanted to get the delay setting etc. I'm terrible with figuring out effects...Big Thanks.
Winn Hall Hi Winn! I am really sorry but I don't have that patch anymore. I swapped it for my own personal custom patch which I use for all of my videos more or less. I know that sounds hard to believe and like I am being a bit tight, I was just tired of sounding like Van Halen aha. I have a setting in my how to sound like 90s Van Halen video if you want to check that out
Stefan Nickel I love Chappers he's really great. I don't mind Chapman guitars. I have only played one so I don't have a proper opinion on them just yet. The new ones look great
So many good points.. Also Robert Baker got me to your channel.👏👏🙌 One question - the G scale shape you play repeats one note on B&G string. Are you conscious of this as you blaze through runs? Or do you just select the one note automatically that fits? I'm really curious as to the thought process here.. Thanks.
unclesuperfly I was aware that there are two of the same notes together within that scale. It is actually pretty useful because when you play it offers cool ideas for phrasings and when you play fast it creates a really cool effect. Good spot!
Cameron Cooper - thanks for the reply.. I was certain you knew it was there.. What's really interesting to me is how you embrace the oddness & not try to avoid it. Makes me realize I think too linearly when playing. Thanks again, great stuff here..
unclesuperfly I really appreciate that cheers so much. When it comes to playing, all I want to do is sound like me, even if it is slightly different I don't mind ☺
Cam, great stuff and thanks for all your great posts. Forgive me if you've posted elsewhere, but would you happen to have the info for or a video showcasing how you get the tone we're hearing on this vid? cheers, mate. - Robert (yes, my real name is Robert Johnson)
Robert M. Johnson In this video I am using my Yamaha THR10X which I have done many videos on. Although my particular patch which I use in near enough every video including this one, I haven't revealed yet
Cam, very good. I'm not familiar with the legalities around these patches, but if you can copyright it and monetize it, you have a buyer here. Also, I would be willing to sign a contract not to share it, which I believe would be legal in the US at least as it protects your brand. if you're planning on revealing it, I'll look out for it, and encourage you to monetize it if possible. Sorry viewers...just tryin' to help a brother out.
That is an interesting proposition I will give that a think over. I don't think there is any legality in a custom made patch because anyone can make it :)
Why not buying an EVH Wolfgang Special made in mexico, they are made at the same factory the Charvel Pro Mod guitars are made...? But i think there is no big difference between the Specials (Mexico) and the Standard (Indonesia) EVH Wolfgangs, but the Standards have good quality and are really cheap...:--)))
Gush, nowadays everybody is a guitar virtuoso on UA-cam, lol. (Why did I stop playing 25 years ago? Started again but now I have heavy fingers, hehe.) Excellent video mate!
GalansKey I will do more lessons like this. Arpeggios are something that I have never tended to focus on really. I guess I could show you how I use them on occasions soon
Er... I have a ton of respect for your amazing playing and also trust that your knowledge is wide. But did you really play a straight up G major scale and thought you discovered something and had to think about it, or are you trolling us 😅
Wow! I play guitar at my church and I can imagine in my head soaring guitar solos for the worship song we play but I’m stuck at playing everything in the Aeolian mode 🤦
Cameron Cooper wow! In just 5 years and you can already play like this. I wish I never stopped playing. lol. Well it's never too late. Thanks for all the tips. Hope you don't stop sharing though. 😁👍🏼
All those people who you've just said inspired you are not in your top 6 list. I personally thought your top 6 list was silly, but it's your list and I shall respect that. Was EVH in your top 6 list? I think he was so that's 1. Surely Vai should have been in your list as you play more like him then The Edge.
I really love this comment!! My top 6 list is made up of guitarists who changed my perception of guitar playing and inspired me to carry on, not necessarily influenced my playing style. All of the guitarists I mentioned here in this vid aided my guitar playing vocabulary. The Edge (as you mentioned), I know I don't play anything like him but in the beginning he really got me into the concept of how the guitar supported the song and didn't 'lead it'. I am also very heavily inspired by musicians/ composers including Hans Zimmer, Jesper Kyd and other guys such as Zander Zon, Rick Graham, Daniel Gottardo have all had an impact on my playing. Yes EVH was on my top 6 list :)
what I would like to see, is you take a hard lick that you would like to learn, one that you are very slow at and show us how you start out slowly with a metronome and build up speed. more on how long it takes using a metronome to get blazing fast. how many hours a day would you practice that lick to get is fast.... tips like that. thanks
Hi Bruce. Thanks for your comment!. Fact is I don't use a metronome. I have my own way of learning which is in essence, breaking something apart note by note and then playing it in chunks. There's a lot of repetition involved. It annoys me so it'd probably annoy viewers even more.
I hear ya. Thanks for commenting back....that means a lot! Just one last question.... How many hours of practice a day did it take you to get that good? Thanks
@@Dvdog007 It wasn't really a regimented routine, it was basically whenever I wasn't in school. I'd come home, do my homework and then play guitar all night learning everything that excited me the most. I'd imagine something in the region of 4-6 hours a day. 9-10 hours a day when school holidays set in. I never had a social life so I just cracked on with guitar playing.
Thanks again for the reply! super cool of you to take the time to answer your fans! All I know is you kick ass on the guitar! your style is the exact style that I like and want to play. you should think about putting out a lesson dvd.... you could probably make a nice little chunk of change!! I'd buy one. Keep rocking my friend and cheers from Atlanta Georgia!
That's fair enough. I don't know any theory of any kind, I have heard of the modes but don't know any of the technicalities behind it. I am only explaining in this video how I approached the guitar to get better
I don't know theory as well...so no worries I can;t read notes as well...I just learn my fave solo's and take the you tube teachers word on what mode it is based on ie Randy Rhoades AEOLIAN based good lesson and a very handy pattern you taught cheers
I'm self-taught. Some people just don't seem to know how to learn. My teaching practices aren't the norm but they work for my subscribers and new viewes. In this video I am just telling you my experiences and advising. Not teaching exactly.
Okay, hold on. The last video where he shows his progress (age 4 to ~20) he claims he’s “self taught” while also showing himself shredding with perfect technique at the age of 8 lmao. And now he’s saying he came up with the “major scale” himself? Man… wut?
Howcome you hybrid pickers never mention that you are doing it. Everything you youtube players emphasize is left hand musical theory. A great video though!
celicharvel I don't talk about theory that much because I don't know any aha. And I often don't notice I'm hybrid picking unless I'm doing a very obvious hybrid picking lick
Cheers.
everytime i rewatch these vids i seem to get a little better. you have taught me alot Cameron!!
You have an amazing choice of note progression and phrasing. It's the closest thing to my person style and taste than any famous guitarist I've heard.
Absolutely love your videos Cameron! Was very interesting to hear how you opened up your playing. You're a monster player and I find it so inspiring watching your videos! Cheers for uploading!

The perfect guitar for iron maiden tone
Perfect tone for heavy metal and glam rock/metal too

I hear a little bit of Eric Johnson in your runs especially with this tone. Thanks for the mini lesson. Great video as always
excellent tips mate
fazeel ashraf Thanks I hope it helps
i WANT that tone, passionately
ya i found that scale too.....great work ..
My god I learned so much
Great Neal Schon lead tone and great playing by the way!
I love Neal Schon thanks Joe! :)
Hey Cam,
Great Lesson!!
Thank you!!
Mark Love No problem. Thanks so much I really hope this helps you.
Hey Cam,
I love your playing and enjoy learning for you.
Your lesson videos really help!!
Thank you!!
Awesomeness!!!
Guitar Struggles sent me. Easy Sub and great playing ideas.
Thumb Up!
MyworstEnemy What a legend!! thanks so much!
I have been getting a lot out of your videos ! You have inspired me to work harder to get better !! I hope that you & Robert Baker will get together & do a shred collaboration !! I know it would be Epic !! Thanks
if you move half step then you get the lydian scale and move up a step and you got mixolydian scale quite handy

What's you opinion on Chappers and his guitars?

It's quite similar to Eric Johnson cliffs of dover towards the end.
I want a charvel now. Just found this channel ) any tips re how to create an 80s guitar sound? What effects do I need to add? Cheers!
guitargirlutube there is a video on how to get the EVH sound on a budget from Andertsons or whatever its a cool video
Could you please show how to do second 53 to 57, slow please. Saludos desde PERÚ.
What pedal are you using? I want this sound
The scale seems to incorporate both A pentatonic and A Dorian very nicely.
So many good points.. Also Robert Baker got me to your channel.👏👏🙌

Zakk Wylde do this kind of mixing positions too(check out Room of nightmares )BTW ...I forgot to mention that you play great . Wish you all the best.
Which do you recommend? The PRO-MOD SO-CAL STYLE 1 HH FR M, or the pro mod San dimas style 1 hh fr?
Both are exactly the same guitar except the So Cal has a pickguard and Duncan distortions instead of JB and 59. I prefer the San Dimas :)
How did you get so good so young man? Killer player
What is your set up here? Amp? Effects? Sounds great!!
rubenzall I'm just using my trusty Yamaha THR10X. I don't use any pedals ☺
Muy bueno
Cam, great stuff and thanks for all your great posts. Forgive me if you've posted elsewhere, but would you happen to have the info for or a video showcasing how you get the tone we're hearing on this vid? cheers, mate. - Robert (yes, my real name is Robert Johnson)

You said you maybe look for an EVH Wolfgang guitar in the future.
Which series will you be looking for...Standard, Special or USA series?
Stefan Nickel I honestly don't know. If I was going to buy a Wolfgang I would look for secondhand Japanese Special or perhaps a USA one.
Why not buying an EVH Wolfgang Special made in mexico, they are made at the same factory the Charvel Pro Mod guitars are made...?

Excellent video mate!
Aetila That's really really kind of you thanks so much! Keep it up!
what kind of pedal are u using. is it just an echo pedal or reverb
I'm using a Yamaha THR10X amp. No pedals
Also, knowing major vs. Minor and how to swotch back and forth.
I love that pink charvel I need a pink guitar
Sorry if this has been asked, but what string gauge do you use?
TJ Downing This is not a fact, but I believe he is using 9-42 set in standard tuning.
TJ Downing I'm using 9-42 on this guitar ☺
6:29 Paul Gilbert's double string bend
You are awesome! If you let your hair down, you will completely fit into the 80's shredder style hahahaha
Make a few lessons like this!! With maybe a more details, arpeggios
GalansKey I will do more lessons like this. Arpeggios are something that I have never tended to focus on really. I guess I could show you how I use them on occasions soon

damn.. you approach stuff the same exact way I do.. you take scales and stack and coil.. 123-234-345-456
Did you have one-on-one, in-person classes with a teacher? Or are all these a product of self-teaching?
Raven de Leon Hi. Thanks a lot for your comment. I am self taught, I have never had a guitar lesson :)
Cameron Cooper how long have you been playing?
Raven de Leon About 5 years
Cameron Cooper wow! In just 5 years and you can already play like this. I wish I never stopped playing. lol. Well it's never too late. Thanks for all the tips. Hope you don't stop sharing though. 😁👍🏼
Cam great content! Cheers!

Cameron Can u imagine EVH playing ur guitar at a gig?
Sam Green To be honest I couldn't although that certainly would be something
The scale at 2:30 I've heard Dave mustaine play it before.
Can you play like that without effects
Of course. It makes me laugh when people ask that. You can't play these chops without the finger power. Regardless of what your signal chain might be.

easy answer...learn the modes from the root note east west not north south
