Dominique said it felt like being inside a videogame. As the game progressed it felt more and more unreal. Bird was coming down the court calling out his shot or asking where they wanted it from.
McHale had broken the Celtic's scoring record against the Pistons. He got 56 points, beating the record previously set by Bird (54, I think). McHale went out of the game by choice with several minutes left in the game and Bird was surprised and advised him not to because he felt he could have set a higher record with the time left. McHale says that Bird told him don't do it, don't go out, that record may not last. 9 days later, Bird had this 60 pt game. I love that they, and the team, facilitated for each to break the record in turn. 86 Celtics were an incredible team.
BECAUSE THEY ARE FANS AND THEY HAVE OPINIONS WHICH WE ALL HAVE AND THEY ALL THINK THEY ARE EXPERTS WHICH THEY ARE NOT, BUT EVEN HALL OF FAMERS HAVE THERE OPINIONS NOT ALL AGREE. AS KOBE SAID LETS QUIT COMPARING AND JUST APPRECIATE THE BRILLIANCE OF EACH ONE. MICHAEL EVEN SAID THERE IS NO GOAT EVERY ERA IS DIFFERENT. KOLBE HAS LARRY IN HIS TOP 5 ALL TIME AT SMALL FORWARD, LEBRON HAS HIM TOP 3, KAREEM WHEN ASKED WHO THE TOUGHEST PLAYER HE SAID LARRY BIRD BECAUSE HE COULD DO EVERYTHING, BILL RUSSELL AND WILT SAID HE WAS THE BEST SMALL FORWARD BECAUSE HE PLAYS THE POSITION THE RIGHT WAY. BUT NOT EVERYONE WILL AGREE SO LETS KEEP DEBATING
Bird, then 28, scored 32 of his 60 points over a 14-minute span in the second half. Also the fact is the famous "rainbow into the trainer" didn't COUNT. The refs ruled that he was out of bounds when he let it fly. He finished with some free throws due to the dummy who fouled (fouls) #33. A defensive foul is just another two points for the Celtics. When you watch all games/clips just watch the ease & expertise at which he dribbles with his left hand. You see, perhaps a big secret is that he WRITES left handed. Just look at his draft pictures and he is signing his contract with his left hand. I'm not casting a pall over his left handed coup game as my opinion is Bird or Russell is the goat DEPENDING on which era! Plus I don't play the "goat debate" if possible. Bill Russell had ELEVEN rings (thanks to being on the dominant Celtics of the '60s and 70's) & was the first black coach in the NBA just for one two stats. Young people don't have any exposure to the OGs, probably because of lack of footage. They don't respect them because they don't KNOW them. No three point line until 1979 but more importantly there was no shot clock. Even the stats on his "left handed game" listed in google are WRONG! Bird scored 27 points left handed and google lists the "fact" at 47 points. The funny comment that Bird made to the media is that he said he was "saving his right hand for the Lakers". I'll address the elephant in the room. Bird isn't talked about as top three or goat by today's young people because he IS white. Probably lose the street cred peer pressure. I don't even WATCH the NBA anymore. High school basketball is more exciting. Today's NBA players are soft as baby sh*t so I'll switch it up. Players TODAY could NEVER be great in the NBA of the '70s/'80s. Basketball used to be EXCITING but not now. They're AFRAID of physical play & AFRAID they may get hurt & WHINE if their little bitty feelings are hurt. Forget Lebron & Jordan. James said he patterned his ENTIRE game off Larry Bird. Jordan, as the leader & star of the Bulls? EVERY playoff series against the Celtics? THEY LOST! SIX TIMES with at least one being a sweep. Happy Thanksgiving.
From 1979 to 1992 Bird beat every great player. That's from his beginning to his end. Including Michael Jordan who he swept 6 - 0. In finals games. That's two series. Just because a bunch of dumb kids of today do not sight Bird as the G.O.A.T really says alot about their pro basketball IQ. Which isn't much! Bird was, is, and always will be the Supreme G.O.A.T.!!!
Y'know, when you replace the original audio with goofy thump thump music that had NO place in the era it really kills the feel and fun of the original video. Theres a lot of lost historic commentary describing the critical moments that go unheard, UGH!!
I think Larry Bird is the best all around player ever but Jordan is something special and I know Larry knows it. Those two in their prime watching them play against each other would have been unbelievable.

You need the audio, it makes it more dramatic.
Yes , Bird over Magic
… Just ask Magic !
He scored 33 points in the final 14 minutes, talking trash the entire time.
3:04. That was smooth as silk. Dribbled low and went two directions to clear opponents off.

He made one 3-pt shot.
They went crazy before that oh. It didn’t count

While I think Jordan is the undisputed GOAT Bird was 6-0 against Jordan in the playoffs.
… who says Jordan is
the undisputed GOAT ?
I’m here to dispute that !
BIRD is the real GOAT !
I think Larry Bird is the best all around player ever but Jordan is something special and I know Larry knows it. Those two in their prime watching them play against each other would have been unbelievable.
Jordan is a great single-double player. Bird is the greatest complete player ever!
