I loved Larry. Pistol Pete Maravich dropped in 68 points leading the New Orleans Jazz over the NY Knicks on February 25, 1977. This was TWO YEARS BEFORE the 3 point shot was put in the game. He also was a 3× Consensus first-team All-American (1968-1970), a 3× SEC Player of the Year (1968-1970), a 3× NCAA season scoring leader (1968-1970) and the NCAA Division I all-time scoring leader, a title that has stood for over 50 years! Why only 3x you may ask. Well, all of his accomplishments were achieved before the adoption of the three-point line and shot clock, and despite being unable to play varsity as a freshman under then-NCAA rules. He also reached 1,000 points in his pro career in just 23 games. For comparison, it took Shaq 52 games.

But since you love this so much, you’ll definitely love it. And plenty of Bird and Dominique. DW really was a great player as well as a class act. It’s called Why you NEVER poke Larry Bird - A trash talk story told by NBA legends. Looking forward to seeing it here. Thanks!
Please do a video about Dominique Wilkins. Not only is he an outstanding player, but he is widely recognized as one of the "class acts" in the league from that era. I remember an interview with Bill Walton, Scott Wedman (I think), Larry BIrd, and Sam Vincent (listed in the order that they were seated on stage) where Bill was telling a story about playing against Atlanta during the NBA Finals, and how the Hawks players were talking all sorts of smack...all but Dominique, which Bill Walton very deliberately pointed out by including: "Everybody except Dominique, because he had too much class for that." The important thing to note is that EVERY other player on that stage was nodding their heads in agreement with Bill Walton. Dominique absolutely deserves a video!
Dominique Wilkens had a phenomenal games as well. Bird was just that much better that night. Dominique was the superior athlete, but Bird was the better basketball player.
I was 37 when this game was played. I watched every Celtics game as I lived in Atlanta, to Dallas, to Cincinnati to NJ until Larry retired and This is the Best Game ever. Watching Larry and Dom trade one magnificent shot after another was exhilarating. There is another game where I think Bird made his best play ever in a crunch but of all of the games...this was the most exciting from beginning to end. Thanks for showing so much of the game...good memories. I appreciate your enthusiasm.
If i recall it was one 3, 15/16 freethrows and 21 field goals. Look at any other players that scored 60 or more and how many were 3s The best part of this whole story is Bird told the media he was going to break McHale's record of 56 vs Atlanta 3 days before lol. Hawks players were all gunning hard to stop him after saying it and he still did...Legend!!!
Atlanta's starting 5 were a serious threat, and Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Danny Ainge have all said so in interviews over the years. I was 14 years old when this game happened, living just north of Detroit, and I was *_amazed_* by how Larry delivered during this game. Doc Rivers has previously said that this was just one of those games where could successfully defend against Bird. It didn't hurt that Larry had some serious motivation to go on a scoring run: 9 days previously, Kevin McHale had broken the previous Boston Celtics player scoring record, hitting 55 points against Detroit (that game was painful for me to watch). Kevin had left the game after setting the new record, and Larry told him that he should have stayed in the game because, if this happened to Larry, he wouldn't be stopping. Larry just felt in the zone when the game against Atlanta started, and started hitting everything. When his teammates figured out he was hotter than normal, they started making sure to feed him the ball...and then, when they realized that he could set the new record, the other Celtics went all-out to get him that ball.
That disrespectful move & Dawkins runnin his mouth is what got Bird fired up! lol Dominique is the human highlight reel! lol Clyde Drexel is so forgotten! He was wicked too! Clyde came in 1983....MJ 1984. No... Birds record still stands!
Honestly the Boston Celtics were so amazing during this time period and not just because of Larry Bird but because of the teamwork and the passing was like magnetic how sometimes these passes were caught😊😊😊😊
I attended a Blazer Celtic game in 83/84 not sure which year? Bird was in his prime and was amazed watching him. I still have a vivid memory of a fast break that was poetry.
Could have already been mentioned in the comments, but... I think one of the best parts of this game was near the end when Larry hit his next-to-last shot while falling into the Hawks bench. Check out the reaction of a couple of the Hawks players on the end of the bench... SO cool! :)
I watched this game and jumped all over the living room yelling through the whole game!! I live in Georgia but, I have been a Celtics fan since 1979. Larry Legend !! ❤
I was also in Georgia when Larry started showing up on TV and as I moved around the country Bird and the Celtics had my heart and I never missed a game.
In that last 3 pointer where he got fouled, he told the opposition EXACTLY what he was going to do, where he was going to do it & what was going t happen & he still pulled it off, that was why the opposition bench went wild.
3:31 In a separate interview Dawkins said he had done the dunk in reaction to Bird's trash-talking but the dunk ended up motivating Bird to have his 60 point game.
If you are referring to Larry telling Nique, "you don't even belong in this league, holmes", you would have the wrong year. That was during Nique's first ever game in Boston as a rookie
@@alanela6761 Sorry, I got his name wrong. It is Antoine Carr. He was irritated by Bird's trash-talking which is why he did the dunk over Bird. This motivated Bird to have the 60 point game. I cannot find the video but I'm sure it was him.
@@chris93703 The fact that so many of us remember this one game after 38 years is a minor miracle in itself. I'm sure that like me you have seen hundreds or thousands of games since then.
Do you have any idea how loud it is on this end when you scream into the mic-?? The game volume isnt nearly as high so we have to turn it up to hear it, then youre screaming louder than that.
I remember this game very well, mostly because it was a few games earlier, I was at the game when McHale scored 56 points and afterwards, Bird was giving him crap for not staying in and scoring more points. He told McHale that that record was going to last. The 80's was the some of the best basketball ever played.
I was 33 when this game took place. I lived in Boston when Bird was signed (and he went to finish his sr. year at Indiana), but I moved to Denver before his first season with the Celtics. Of course, Denver was an LA town! The Lakers/Celtics rivalry was insane, and incredible business for every bar in both cities. Basketball was back! Now watch "Making the Case" for Bird as the GOAT.
For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was and never had the chance to see him play this comment is for you. Remember in this comment I am just highlighting Larry's NBA accomplishments. Little know thing about Larry to those that never saw him play , he could effect the outcome of a game and never take a shot thats how devastating his passing skills were. Here is one thing that most fans (people) either don't know or try to ignore, prior to Larry joining the NBA there was no such thing as a three point line, that came in when Bird was starting his first year of his NBA career. Just think about it, what would todays game be without the three point line or if the line was one foot farther out like it was when it was first introduced. Food for thought. At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go: Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics: Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88); All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88); Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012). Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons. Career averages: 24.3 points per game 10.0 rebounds per game 6.3 assists per game 88.6% free throw percentage 49.6% field goal percentage 37.6% 3-point percentage Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. After season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 season James Worthy, who played against both Michael Jordan and Larry Bird, said, I'd much rather play. against Michael Jordan than Larry Bird. Jordan made you look slow, but Bird made you look stupid.
Can you even imagine having the _unbelievable_ talent of Dominique, Antoine, and Doc - all at the top of their game - and getting beat in your own building?? That's how special the Celtics & Bird were at this time.
I was 10 because I watched it live on TBS. I've said it on other Bird videos: Over 40 years of watching the NBA and a healthy Larry Bird is, to this day, the best basketball player I've ever seen not named Michael Jordan. 'Nique was awesome too. You should watch the playoff game "the duel." Bird and Dominique go AT it. Awesome game.
I saw that game. Dominique Wilkins and Larry Bird had dispute about who was better player. Larry Bird's 60-point game in 1985 was about this. I saw this game and couple games before this one. They were in each other's faces. Larry Bird the big trash talker but he stands behind what he says. I was 22 years old.
I used to watch the Lakers - Celtics games all the time as a kid and man, I have to admit, Bird was the closest thing to a basketball genius Ive ever seen. This guy was always at the right place at the right time on that court. It was just unbelievable.

Antoine Carr was a good player. You had to be good when you are going up against teams with legendary players. Carl Malone, Isiah Thomas, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Dr. J., Kareem, Xavier McDaniel, Patrick Ewing... The 80s was packed full of great players. They had to be good because the players from the 60s & 70s were awesome.
I was eleven and a huge Celtics fan even though I am a Californian. I named one of my Cabbage Patch Kids Larry after Larry Bird. Reading about this game in the paper was crazy.
Lived in central Florida at the time and was ensconced in basketball. We played on the clay tennis courts every day after work. I learned that in the south the game existed above the rim vs. where I grew up in the Bronx where the emphasis was deadly shooting. I was an ardent Celtic fan and I followed them closely, I knew Tiny Nate and later Quinn Buckner. But as for that game I was completely out of my mind. No one could stop the goat and to see the Hawk players reaction and later hear about how much he was trash talking was amazing. All respect to Dominique and yes I wore the Converse Weapons.
As a life time Knicks fan for 58 years Bird was a thorn in my side. With that said I respected him, he was as tough as they come. I saw this game and was pulling for Dominique wilkens but knew they stood no chance. Love watching Larry and Magic not only for College National Championships but in 5 finals.
Jordan is 11-23 against Bird all time, and 0-6 against Bird and the Celtics in the playoffs, with BACK TO BACK sweerps in 86 and 87.. in the 80s he faced damn good wings Bernard King Dr J Clyde Drexler Bird Wilkins Sidney Moncrief and more. Unless you talking DUNKS.. well Clyde "the glide" was doing some crazy dunks too. Dennis Johnson and Joe Dumars were incredible defensive guards that could score and pass too.
I watched the game on TV. March 12th, 1985 was 3 days before my 16th B'day. Game during that era were Electric. There was always the possibility of Bird doing something amazing. Any game could become the best game you ever saw.

I watched this game live. I can tell you that, that was the easiest 60 points I have ever seen someone get! Bird was unbelievable. He did things that would just make you shake your head. He is still to this day, the most complete player to ever play in the nba. Bird won three league Mvp's " IN A ROW" in a league that Michael Jordan played in! And came in second, five other times. Bird and (or) Magic could've scored 50 plus points on any night they wanted but were the ultimate team player. Dominique was (is) better than most of today's stars.
This was one of the greatest shoot outs between 2 players between Dominique Wilkens and Larry Bird. Notice how the bench on the Atlanta Hawks are falling over each other every time Bird scores.
I was 11 and doing homework, when my father called me downstairs because Bird had been going crazy with difficult made shots, and that means I had permission to watch the rest of the game. That year was Bird's most explosive season offensively (he finished 2nd in scoring behind the injured Bernard King, and he hit at least 3 memorable buzzer-beaters in the second half of that season). It seemed impossible after his 1984 season that he was playing on a different level in 1985, but clearly he was. McHale had just set the Celtics' record with 56 points the week earlier (on a Sunday, so I had been able to watch that game). Either Bird (in this game) or McHale (in that game) had finished the 3rd quarter with 42 points, so we were paying attention to every basket they scored. The Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins were all mediocre or lousy at the time (though both the Red Sox and Patriots would have great years the next season after the one they were currently playing), so the Celtics (the defending champions) were the only professional sport I obsessed over during that period (though this was the era of Boston College, with Doug Flutie, being an excellent college football team). So watching Bird destroy the league for these 3 months or so was an unforgettable memory. Sadly, this was the season that Kareem "turned back the clock" and dominated the Celtics in the Finals. That part was not fun. BTW, Bird's 60 still stands, though Jayson Tatum tied it a couple of years ago. So they each got to 60 once.
Wilt Chamberlain set the single-game scoring record in the National Basketball Association (NBA) by scoring 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169-147 win over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962, at Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Larry also had 7 boards and 3 assists that game, and a few would-be assists where there was a foul on the ensuing shot. 'Nique went for 36, with 5 boards and 4 steals. Both teams shot over 50% from the field. It was a great game all around.
There are some players that are powered up by the competition, by the crowd, by intense moments and moments that matter and their level of play becomes heightened or enhanced. And then there are people like Bird who are great at every moment of the game and will go out of their way to tell you.
You need to watch the Hawks bench when Bird hit the 3 and fell into the lap of the trainer for the Hawks. Bird actually called the shot "Rainbow 3 into the lap of the trainer plus 1" and then actually hit the shot. The bench's reaction is what makes it most memorable, and according to Doc Rivers, Mike Fratello spent 20 minutes on video of the bench falling over themselves with players fined
@@spike3082 wrong, the continuation rule was definitely in effect. I very clearly remember watching Bird, Magic, Dr J, Jordan, Barkley, Kemp, Chambers, Drexler, and other NBA superstars continually get the continuation fouls and go to the free throw line after hitting the shot against my Knicks. Listen to Marv Albert, the former voice of the Knicks and the Rangers, broadcasting a Knicks game from the 1980s; he absolutely uses the line "and 1"
Bird hit a 3 pointer that was called off by the ref so he could have ended up with 63 , Dominic Wilkinson has all my respect because he also had a hella game too
In 1986, he played in 82 games and averaged 25.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. During the six-game series, logging 269 out of a possible 288 minutes of floor time. Bird was named the Finals' MVP for that year, averaging 24 points, 9.7 rebounds, 9.7 assists, and 2.7 steals per game for the series. He was selected to play in his seventh All-Star game, won his third MVP award, his second Finals MVP award, and his third NBA championship
Wilt holds so many scoring records, this just scratches the surface... including a 100 point game... 118 50 point games... It just goes on and on ..nevermind blocks and rebounds and even led the league in assists one year
I was 31, I followed Larrys career from day one, this was a regular game and as I remember it, Larry didnt hit every shot, he also had a bunch of assists. Most of his points were scored in the second half. They began feeding larry the ball almost exclusively in the forth quarter

I was in college when I watched this game in a bar in the Bronx. I thought I had too many beers because some of the shots he was making seemed impossible. LOL. Dominique has said that he thought he was in a video game, but realized what Bird was doing was for real. 😂😂😂
🤣😂🤣😂
Dominique "The HUMAN HIGHLIGHT" Wilkins was a great player, too! It was a 'duel' between him and Larry Bird!
The man was a step ahead of everyone..to make 60 points..especially at the buzzer ..pressure was not a word in his world..go Bird
When Bird scored that 20 points in the fourth quarter in a later Hawks❤game, Dominique had 17. He's way overlooked today. In my top ten.
They didn't call Nique the human highlight reel for no reason bro. Dude was a beast!
Facts!
It was fun watching him drop 100 on teams in high school
According to Doc Rivers, Larry talked the whole game. Asking who was next, where they want him to shoot from. Telling them plays before it started.
Loving your Bird videos! He’s my all time favorite. Magic right there after. There’s another amazing Celtics and Hawks vid with commentary from the players. I won’t ruin it for you. But since you love this so much, you’ll definitely love it. And plenty of Bird and Dominique. DW really was a great player as well as a class act.
It’s called Why you NEVER poke Larry Bird - A trash talk story told by NBA legends.
Looking forward to seeing it here. Thanks!
I was raised in a family crazy for basketball. We were in our living room jumping up and down and screaming at the tv. It was glorious! Fly Bird, Fly!
Same here with my family, it was loud! Fun times, miss it!
Please do a video about Dominique Wilkins. Not only is he an outstanding player, but he is widely recognized as one of the "class acts" in the league from that era. I remember an interview with Bill Walton, Scott Wedman (I think), Larry BIrd, and Sam Vincent (listed in the order that they were seated on stage) where Bill was telling a story about playing against Atlanta during the NBA Finals, and how the Hawks players were talking all sorts of smack...all but Dominique, which Bill Walton very deliberately pointed out by including: "Everybody except Dominique, because he had too much class for that."
The important thing to note is that EVERY other player on that stage was nodding their heads in agreement with Bill Walton. Dominique absolutely deserves a video!
Perfectly said
The Hawks were never in the NBA Finals.
Dominique Wilkens had a phenomenal games as well. Bird was just that much better that night. Dominique was the superior athlete, but Bird was the better basketball player.
Love Nique, you need to watch the shootout in the seventh game 88 eastern conference finals between Celts and Hawks. One of the classics.
Look at any other players that scored 60 or more and how many were 3s
The best part of this whole story is Bird told the media he was going to break McHale's record of 56 vs Atlanta 3 days before lol. Hawks players were all gunning hard to stop him after saying it and he still did...Legend!!!
This game has been narrated a million times, but I never get tired of watching it. Nice job.
There was a shot that did not get counted because a timeout was called. He actually shot 63 in this game
Livin’ like Larry
Wilkins had a lot of highlights here! That shows the beast he was!!!!
Could have already been mentioned in the comments, but...
I think one of the best parts of this game was near the end when Larry hit his next-to-last shot while falling into the Hawks bench. Check out the reaction of a couple of the Hawks players on the end of the bench... SO cool! :)
That was hilarious and thanks for watching
Dominique probably with the most fitting nicknames ever. "THE HUMAN HIGHLIGHT REEL" was always living up to his nickname
Bird told the Hawks he was going to do it.
ALL NET AT THE END!! Larry Legend...
I was 16 when it happened... My dad is a big Larry Legend fan.
@@alanela6761
Sorry, I got his name wrong.
I think Neek had 40 that game also. A couple of Monster Hall of Famers.
Jordan was swept in the playoffs twice by Bird and the Celtics
legend
I love watching the Hawks bench laugh and go crazy when Larry scored.
Favorite Bird shot, right on the corner, sees the basket from behind through the glass. Shoots it over the goal, the net does not move.
But if you need some stats here you go:
Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics:
Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88);
All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88);
Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012).
Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons.
Career averages:
24.3 points per game
10.0 rebounds per game
6.3 assists per game
88.6% free throw percentage
49.6% field goal percentage
37.6% 3-point percentage
Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. After season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 season
James Worthy, who played against both Michael Jordan and Larry Bird, said, I'd much rather play. against Michael Jordan than Larry Bird. Jordan made you look slow, but Bird made you look stupid.
Can you even imagine having the _unbelievable_ talent of Dominique, Antoine, and Doc - all at the top of their game - and getting beat in your own building?? That's how special the Celtics & Bird were at this time.
I was15 at the time. 54 now and I still remember watching the game with my dad.
Bird is the GOAT! I watched this game when it was played, yes I'm that old, and it was AMAZING!
There was nothing like anticipating an NBA game in the 1980s. A physical game peppered with threes. Big men played in the paint where they belong!
The best part of that game is actually watching the Hawks bench after Larry's insane shots! Especially toward the n end!
I used to watch the Lakers - Celtics games all the time as a kid and man, I have to admit, Bird was the closest thing to a basketball genius Ive ever seen. This guy was always at the right place at the right time on that court. It was just unbelievable.
Par for the cource..in 78 and 79 we won the high school state championship..in indiana..we was hoosiers..so bird just dominated as far back as i remembered..in fla now
DOMINIQUE!!! Check out Never Poke Larry Bird, a Trash Talk Story Told By Legends.....it's about game 7 of the 88' conf finals with Bird and Nique' going to war. A funny story of how Kevin Willis decided to talk trash to Bird and turned him on. Worth a watch for sure. Nique' and Bird my 2 all time faves, and people always mention Jordan{understandably}but Dom was a pitbull and as athletic and a gravity defying monster as MJ was. And a gentleman as well, class act man.
FUN FACTS:
Larry Bird scored 60 points against the Atlanta Hawks on 03/12/85.
Michael Jordan scored 63 points against the Boston Celtics on 04/20/86.
Pistol Pete Maravich scored 68 points against the NY Knicks on 02/25/77 before fouling out. At that time there was no 3 point line.
Here is a great game,1988 ECF's game 7, Celtics & Hawks, a big battle between Larry & Nique. Trash talking, comments from players, too.
"Why You NEVER Poke Larry Bird - A Trash Talk STORY Told by NBA Legends!" Another fact is of his 60 points, I believe only one 3-pointer!
Larry was special… great at a time when the league had many amazing players and the game was so physical. You took your bumps back in the day.
Wilt Chamberlain scored 60 points, 32 times , Kobe is second with 6 times
Don't forget Wilt scored 100 in one game....
@@jimcurt99 I know he did, and it was against the Knicks 👍
The most Dominate player in NBA history is Wilt Chamberlain and his records will never be broken.
Not with shots like these. This was a special game.
I was 26, and it was something to see! We were laughing and yelling at the TV.
72 years old. Just in 2022, 73 years old. I was West Coast back then. NO like Bird-man back then.
Larry Legend was the best overall player I've ever seen. Inside that country boy's head was a machine that understood and played moves ahead. ❤❤❤
Jordan is 11-23 against Bird all time, and 0-6 against Bird and the Celtics in the playoffs, with BACK TO BACK sweerps in 86 and 87..
in the 80s he faced damn good wings
Bernard King
Dr J
Clyde Drexler
Bird
Wilkins
Sidney Moncrief
and more.
I'm a Larry fan, but Dominique was a monster.
It's often overlooked in Larry's highlight videos how good his competion was during this era.
He was robbed in the dunk contest the year Jordan won it, too.
So are you saying that Domonique was better?
@msmith5121 larry has said many times that Dominique was one of the best and most dangerous players he ever faced!! Laryy bird has nothing but love and respect for Dominique wilkins!!!
@@msmith5121 You're kidding right?! Lebon would sit out scared to death to face Larry, and no, I'm not saying Nique is better than Larry Legend, because no one was better, or is better, than Larry. Anyone who doesn't realize this is either being dishonest, or which is usually the case, they just don't know any better.
I remember that game very well. I was a Hawks fan. It was an incredible duel between Bird and Nique. It's the best NBA game I've ever seen.
I was in 8th grade about 30 miles outside of Boston, I never liked baseball, but I remember everybody at school celebrating and talking about it.
My favorite part is the Hawks players going crazy on the bench.
That 3 pointer at end he called it. He said where do you want it? Left side rainbow into the trainers lap
That's all that needs to be said! GOAT.
100% agreed. It almost didn't feel like Larry was doing anything out of the ordinary. . . until the Hawks bench started cheering for him.
Best game iever saw Bird play was his 30 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 9 steals...in just 3 quarters lol
Checked himself out for the 4th up by 20+ and a reporter ran down to the coach and told him Bird is only 1 steal short of only the 4th or 5th quad double in NBA history. Coach told Bird and he said naw, I've done enough damage this game.
Legend!!!
Good call. They don’t seem to make superstars like Larry anymore. I can’t think of any current player off the top of my head who would miss an opportunity for an all-time stat line like that.

Good call. They don’t seem to make superstars like Larry anymore. I can’t think of any current player off the top of my head who would miss an opportunity for an all-time stat line like that.
Bird and (or) Magic could've scored 50 plus points on any night they wanted but were the ultimate team player. Dominique was (is) better than most of today's stars.
He was a monster 👍
I was 19, I’m from Chicago, and 💚 I love Larry Bird.
Wilt Chamberlain set the single-game scoring record in the National Basketball Association (NBA) by scoring 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169-147 win over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962, at Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
lived in Boston at the time, had season tickets for 5 years 1980- 85
Larry also had 7 boards and 3 assists that game, and a few would-be assists where there was a foul on the ensuing shot.
Wilt had 100 pts in Hershey Pa in 1963 or so. Not sure of the year but it was in that time line
March 2nd, 1962. The rest of the team scored 69 points.
Ar baskerball camp, in JH, they played a vdeo where Bird ad Jordan always said, "Master the basics." Great advice.
DOM was the business. Bird just ain't havin' it, though. There can be only one.
I think "plus one" part was added by a modern reaction. I don't think they said that back then.
They didn't count the basket because the foul was before the shot and the continuation rule didn't exist back then
@@spike3082 wrong, the continuation rule was definitely in effect.
I very clearly remember watching Bird, Magic, Dr J, Jordan, Barkley, Kemp, Chambers, Drexler, and other NBA superstars continually get the continuation fouls and go to the free throw line after hitting the shot against my Knicks.
Listen to Marv Albert, the former voice of the Knicks and the Rangers, broadcasting a Knicks game from the 1980s; he absolutely uses the line "and 1"
@arln1966 my apologies I couldn't remember if it was or not I just remember they didn't count the shot
@@spike3082 it counted.
I'll be 42 this month and even I can't imagine Ballin in a pair of Chuck Taylor all stars 😅
My ankles are like HELL to the nawww 🤣🤣🤣
@@richhousereviews real talk 😆
You need to cover the 4th quarter duel between Bird and Wilkins. Greatest head to head battle ever
I love watching Bird play because you never know what is coming next!!! Yes, follow Dominique = he was a beast and so under rated!!!!
The first video I watched on your channel was you doubting tha Larry Bird could be a GOAT. it's been a pleasure seeing you converting to a full blown fan of the Legend.
Thanks for watching and observing it means a lot ❤️
Such an incredible performance but there’s something to be said about your opponents reaction to your greatness. The Hawk bench reaction is priceless.
